DealDash Helps You be More Pleasant

DealDash

Studies show that people who are more pleasant to be around are also healthier and happier. Here are some tips from DealDash to improve your pleasant quotient.

Are you the cheerful person that everyone wants to be around? If not, why not?! No matter what’s going on in your life, being pleasant to be around just takes a few moments of your time and is completely free. One of the bonuses about being a pleasant person is that people tend to respond more positively to pleasant people and therefore will make your day brighter as well.

Hold the Positive, Let Go of the Negative

I know that everyone has a bad day here and there, and no one can be pleasant all of the time. However, there’s no reason to let every little thing in your day that doesn’t go right get you down. If you let all of the small things that go wrong get you down on a daily basis, then you’re definitely not going to be as pleasant as you can be. Try to turn some of those negatives into positives. For example, most people dislike the rain, especially if they have to walk in it. However, the rain helps the grass and flowers grow, helps replenish our lakes and ponds, and is good for the environment in general. Try to think on the positive side of life.

Take Delight in the Little Things

Tons of small but nice things happen every day. Maybe someone let you go ahead of them in line at the supermarket, maybe you found a dollar on the ground, or maybe your child brought home a 100 on a test. All of those are small things, but wonderful things that you should take delight in and celebrate with a smile. If you spend lots of time being happy with the small good things that happen during the day you’ll have less time to dwell on any negative things that happen.

Spread the Happiness Around

If you’re having a great day, why not pass that feeling on to others around you? Give someone a compliment, pay for someone else’s coffee, call your mom just to say hi. All of those things would take less than 5 minutes, and under $5, so why not?! Make someone else happy, and you will feel happiness in return. It comes full-circle, and everyone will be happier for it.

Don’t Always Say What You’re Thinking

Have you ever heard someone say “If you don’t have something nice to say then don’t say anything at all?” Well, that’s smart advice if you want to be known as the most pleasant person around. Before you say something that might be taken as rude, then think about it a bit before you say it. If it’s not a helpful, and it might hurt someone’s feelings, then why say it? Bite your tongue, keep it to yourself, and move on. Life is short, try to keep all of your interactions pleasant.

DealDash Helps: Stop Your Dog From Begging

DealDash Dog

It might have been cute when your dog was a tiny puppy, but begging isn’t so cute when he’s 60 pounds! Here are some tips and ideas from DealDash.

A dog begging at the table is commonly thought of as rather rude, and it’s a common complaint among dog owners. Many dog owners find it difficult to stop their dog from begging at the table, it can be a difficult habit to break. If you can find the time and dedication to work with your dog on this issue you can be well on your way to a more calm and enjoyable dinner, sans begging dog.

Just Ignore the Dog

Just ignoring your dog can be easier said than done, but if you are able to ignore his begging when you are eating then eventually he will figure out that there is no pay-off to begging at the table. However, if you give in sporadically, then you’re setting him back every single time. If he realizes that you will give in every 10 times that he begs, then he will just keep begging over and over again. It might sound a little bit mean to ignore him, but it’s really for his own benefit. Be sure to give him plenty of love and cuddles and maybe even a treat if you can get through a meal without him begging at the table.

Stop the People Food Altogether

If you’re a pet lover, then you probably think that you’re doing a nice thing for your dog when you give him people food. However, in most cases, this simply isn’t correct. Unless you’re giving him pure meat and vegetables, then the people food that you’re feeding him probably isn’t really healthy for him, anyway. If you can stop the people food altogether, including not giving him any in his bowl, then he will be healthier for it. In addition to being healthier, if you aren’t giving him any more people food, then you can’t give in to his begging at the table – unless you’re eating dog food, that is!

Make Sure the Family is On Board

It’s very important that your whole family is on board with the objective of not feeding the dog from the table anymore. No one really enjoys it when the dog begs at the table, so this should be an easy thing to agree on. However, if you have any small kids in your family, you will need to be sure that they understand what’s going on. Kids love to feed the dog from their plate, especially if there are things on there that they don’t want to eat! If your kids are younger than 5 or so, then you’ll probably need to keep a close eye on them to make sure that they aren’t either sneaking the dog treats or even accidentally feeding him by dropping things inadvertently.

DealDash Helps Lower Back Pain

DealDash

Lower back pain is a huge problem for a large part of the population. Here are some tips and tricks from DealDash.

Are you one of the hundreds of thousands of Americans with pain in your lower back? Millions of people worldwide suffer from pain in their lower back, but that doesn’t mean that you have to just accept the pain in your life. No matter if it’s from an injury, illness, or just plain old-fashioned aging, lower back pain can be soothed with the right treatment. Here are some tips and tricks from DealDash to help you.

Diagnose the Problem

Before you figure out a treatment plan for your back pain, you need to figure out why your back is in pain. There are many reasons why you might be having lower back pain such as poor posture, an accident or injury, aging, weight gain, arthritis, or something else. The best thing for you to do is to go see your doctor so they can diagnose your problem, and give you some pointers for at-home treatment. If your problem is more serious they might suggest physical therapy or even surgery.

Work on Your Posture

If you have a serious back injury correcting your posture won’t fix it, but if your particular back pain originates from bad posture, then this could completely take away your lower back pain. The lower back is particularly susceptible to pain caused by bad posture. This is because your lower back supports a large portion of your weight. According to WebMD, here is the key to having good posture:

From the side: Your earlobe, the tip of your shoulder, your hip, your knee, and your ankle should make a straight line, separating the front of your body from the back.

From the front: Your shoulders and hips should be level, your kneecaps facing ahead, your ankles straight, head not tilted.

Check yourself throughout the day and adjust. (Your mom was also right about practice makes perfect.)

Practice “standing tall” and breathing from your diaphragm.  Not only is this good for body is does wonders for appearance.

Get Instant Pain Relief

If you need some instant pain relief, luckily there are plenty of over-the-counter medications that can make your lower back pain feel much better. Take over-the-counter ibuprofen as directed by the package. Ibuprofen will help ease any inflammation and help control the pain on a chemical level. Aspirin will make your back feel better quickly. Please be sure to keep your medications out of the hands of children, aspirin is especially dangerous for children.

DealDash Cooks Eggs Benedict

Great for breakfast, lunch, or brunch, Eggs Benedict is the meal for you. Read on, DealDash is cooking Eggs Benedict…

Eggs Benedict was originally made in New York but is enjoyed by people all over the world. Eggs Benedict is a traditional American brunch or breakfast food. Brunch is great every day but is typically served on Sundays. Eggs Benedict consists of two halves of an English muffin, and each half is covered with a choice of Canadian bacon or ham, a poached egg, and hollandaise sauce. The hollandaise sauce is really the thing that will set your Eggs Benedict apart from the rest. Read on for an Eggs Benedict recipe, from DealDash.

Hollandaise Sauce

Here are the ingredients for the hollandaise sauce:

  • 4 Egg yoks
  • 1 TBS lemon juice, freshly squeezed
  • 1 Stick of butter, cut into tiny cubes
  • Salt, to taste
  • Cayenne pepper, to taste

Here are the directions for the hollandaise sauce:

  1. Melt the butter in a pan, then set aside
  2. If you have a double boiler, used that. Otherwise, fill a pan about a ⅓ full of water and heat until you see a couple thin streams of bubbles. Place a heat-safe metal or glass bowl snugly on top of the pan, without touching the water.
  3. Add your egg yolks and lemon juice to the double boiler. Whisk constantly and vigorously until the mixture becomes frothy and lighter in color. This can take more time than you expect, up to 10 minutes.
  4. Add your melted butter slowly by pouring the butter in a small, steady stream, whisking constantly and vigorously. The sauce should thicken easily at first, then become more difficult to combine. Pour more slowly as this happens, since too much butter can cause the sauce to split. This will take a few minutes.
  5. Add your salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Cover your bowl and keep warm while you are preparing the rest of the ingredients.

Eggs Benedict

Here are the ingredients for the rest of the meal:

  • Canadian bacon or ham
  • English Muffins
  • Eggs

Here are the directions for the rest of the meal:

  1. Heat the Canadian bacon  (or ham) in a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook for a few minutes until it starts to brown, turning occasionally. Keep warm.
  2. Cut each English muffin in half and place them on a baking sheet, cut sides up. Butter the cut sides lightly and toast under the broiler until light brown.
  3. Time for the egg!  Fill a wide nonstick skillet or shallow pan half full of water. Heat until there are a couple thin streams of bubbles.
  4. Crack one egg into a small bowl, taking care not to break the yolk. Gently lower the edge of the bowl into the water, letting some water flow into the bowl. Tip the bowl to slide the egg slide into the water. Quickly repeat with however many eggs you would like to cook.
  5. Cook for 3½ minutes until the egg white is set but the yolk remains soft. Remove with a slotted spoon, allowing the water to drain off of the egg.
  6. Time to put it all together! Place your muffin halves on each plate. Lay a slice of the Canadian bacon on top of each muffin half, followed by a poached egg. Spoon Hollandaise sauce generously over the eggs.
  7. Enjoy your brunch!!

Let’s Have a DealDash Spa Slumber Party

DealDash Spa

School is almost over, and your kids are going to be bored. Why not plan a spa slumber party with DealDash?

A spa slumber party can be fun for kids of all ages, from little kids up to grannies! However, it’s especially well-received by girls in Elementary and Middle school.  With a little preparation and some creativity, your spa slumber party will be a hit with your daughter or granddaughter and her little friends! Here are some tips, tricks, hints, and ideas from DealDash to make your party a success.

Make Some Decisions

There are many decisions that you’ll need to make before you have your spa slumber party, such as how many people you’re going to invite, what types of spa activities that you want to have, and what refreshments you’ll need. Once you’ve decided these things, the planning will go much more smoothly.

Who Will You Invite?

After you’ve decided who to invite, then you’ll need to make a guest list. If this is a party for teens or adults, then 6-8 guests is probably a good number, but the younger the guests, the less you should invite. For example, if this party is going to be for Kindergarteners, I would only invite 4 or so guests.

Once you have your guest list decided, then you can start inviting people. You can make a Facebook invitation, do e-vites, or even buy (or make) some paper invitations to send in the mail. It’s completely up to you. If you go the paper invitations route, be sure to put your email address on there as well as your phone number so people have the option to RSVP by either email or text.

Collect Your Supplies

After deciding what type of spa activities that you’re going to have at your party, then you can start collecting the supplies that you’ll need to make the night a success. Here are some examples of things that you might want to collect for your spa party:

  • Nail polishes in different colors
  • Nail polish remover
  • Q-tips
  • Cotton rounds
  • Things to make face masks such as eggs, oatmeal, avocado, honey
  • Towels
  • Make-up such as eye shadow, blush, eyeliner
  • Make-up remover wipes
  • Lotions
  • Facial scrubs
  • If you’re really adventurous – a home waxing kit!

Buy Snacks

You will most likely order take-out or pizza for dinner, but be sure that you have snacks, bottled water, and soda on hand. You can make Chex Mix, get pretzels and hummus dip, a mixed veggie plate, and some bags of microwave popcorn. This might be a spa slumber party, but when there’s a party involved, you’re always going to need snacks!

DealDash Takes a Morning Run

DealDash Morning Run

Going for a morning run is wonderful exercise, and can also start your day off on the right foot. Here are some tips to get started, from DealDash.

To go for a morning run, you have to be prepared with the right clothes and have the right attitude. The clothes are easy to get, but the attitude might take a little more effort. It will help if you eat the right foods, and be able to find the motivation to make it part of your routine a few times per week. If you can’t muster the energy for a morning run, then try a morning walk. It’s excellent exercise as well and comes with all of the great benefits for your health and well-being. Here are some of the ways that you can get prepared.

Have the Correct Clothing

If you want to go for a morning run, then you have to have the right gear. Having the right shoes and clothes can really make or break your experience. You can run or walk in any sneakers that you have, of course, but if you want to get serious then you’ll need to get a good pair of running shoes. The shoes should have a little bit of wiggle room between your toes and at the tops of your toes. The shoe should also have a secure fit in the arches and the heel.

Clothing-wise, anything that’s comfortable and well-fitting is the way to go. You might want to steer clear of 100% cotton because those clothes absorb sweat, and that’s definitely not what you want! Be sure that you have comfortable socks. You can even get socks that are specifically geared toward runners.

Make the Time for Yourself

Do you have enough time in the morning to go for a run? Most likely you will have to carve yourself out some time by getting up earlier or swapping things around so you can do some of your morning activities at night instead.

How long do you want your run to be? It doesn’t have to be a long run, even 15-20 minutes is much, much better than nothing. Try to also fit in a 5-minute warm-up and cool-down.

Stay Hydrated, Keep Your Body Fueled

Don’t forget to drink plenty of water before and after your run. You can even take a water bottle along with you if you feel like you need it. Be sure to eat a quick snack before your run. No need to fill up, just a little something to get yourself going such as a piece of fruit or a yogurt. After your run you’re going to be hungry, so be sure to have a healthy breakfast ready for yourself when you get back.

DealDash Helps the Environment

DealDash helps

Most people want to help our environment, but they might not know how. Here are some tips and ideas from DealDash to get you started.

“Save the Earth” and “Go green” might be some phrases that you have heard when thinking about helping the environment, but what do those things really mean? There are hundreds of ways that you can help our environment, some of them easy, some of them hard, and some of them you might already be doing! Read on, and find out more from DealDash.

Don’t Waste Water

This might be something that you do already to save money. Wasting water is bad for both the environment and for your wallet. You can do lots of little things daily to help save on water. Here are some tips:

  • If you water your grass, do so in the evening. If you do it in the morning it will just burn off and you’ll have to do it again later.
  • Turn off the tap when you’re brushing your teeth.
  • If you wash your car, fill up a bucket and get your car wet with a big sponge. Then soap up the car. Don’t turn on the actual hose until it’s time to wash all of the soap off.
  • If you garden, try to water your plants every 2nd day if possible instead of every day. You can probably get away with this if it’s 80 degrees or below – or cloudy. Don’t forget that the rain that mother nature provides counts as watering your plants, too! No need to double-water.

Recycle

Are you recycling at home? Go to your city or town’s website and find the waste management section. From there you will be able to find out your town or city’s policy on recycling. After that, then be sure that you are putting all of your can, bottles, and papers into your recycle bin.

Here’s a fun fact from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA):

If an office building of 7,000 workers recycled all of its office paper waste for a year, it would be the equivalent of taking almost 400 cars off the road.

Get New Lightbulbs

Have you replaced all of your light bulbs yet with CFL light bulbs? Compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) last 10 times longer than a standard light bulb and use two-thirds less energy. They cost more initially but will end up saving you money in the long run since they last so much longer.

You can also consider getting LED light bulbs. These last even longer than CFL bulbs, up to 15 years! DealDash carried packs of LED bulbs that can be controlled by your smartphone! Not only that, but you can change their colors and even program them to come on and off when you want them to. Isn’t that amazing?

Thanks for Reading

Finally, thanks so much for reading this new DealDash article on helping the environment. It’s a great way to save money and help the Earth at the same time.

If you’re thinking about getting some LED light bulbs, get them on DealDash. DealDash has many LED bulb auctions. Visit DealDash now to see how much you can save. Don’t forget to tell all of your friends about DealDash! Good luck and happy bidding everyone! DealDash flowers

DealDash Pets: Guinea Pigs

DealDash guinea pig

Guinea Pigs are a nice and gentle pet for kids and adults. DealDash takes a look at their care.

Have you ever held a guinea pig? They are so soft, cute, and cuddly.  Also, guinea pigs are easy to care for, inexpensive, and provide a lot of entertainment. Guniea pigs only need a few supplies and a lot of love and attention from their new human family. Here is a list of what you would need to get before you get a guinea pig as a pet, from DealDash.

Guinea Pig Supplies

  • A cage. There are many commercially available guinea pig cages at the pet store. Be sure to get as big a cage as space and budget allow, you should be sure to get at least 4.5 square feet of cage space as a minimum for one guinea pig. Guinea pigs happily live in pairs, though, so be sure that you get a cage even larger if you decide to keep two at a time.
  • Bedding. Make sure to never use cedar or aspen bedding, as it can cause respiratory problems. Pine is usually alright, but the best bedding for your little guinea pig is paper.
  • Water bowl or bottle. A large heavy bowl works great, and as an added bonus you can just pop it right in the dishwasher when you are doing the dishes. If you prefer, you can get a water bottle that mounts to the cage, instead.
  • Guinea Pigs love to graze on their food, so be sure that you have some timothy hay available for them every day.
  •  Green leafy vegetables should make up about 20% of your guinea pigs’ diet. Veggies that are good for guinea pigs include lettuce, celery, carrots, tomatoes, cucumber, parsley, kale, raw broccoli, and small amounts of spinach and peas.
  • Food pellets. You don’t need a lot of food pellets, but variety is the spice of life, so be sure to pick up some food pellets for your guinea pig to graze on after he’s finished his fresh veggies.
  • Love. Lots of love. Be sure to hold and cuddle your guinea pig friend daily. Let him run around in a guinea pig proofed area every day and he will be a happy and healthy pet.

DealDash Helps Refine Your Focus

DealDash Focus

There are so many distractions in the world today, it’s hard to keep and refine your focus. Here are some tips from DealDash to help.

As an adult with ADHD, I am an expert at becoming distracted. This is fairly common for people who don’t have ADHD as well, there are so many distractions today, from your phone’s notifications to text messages, and everything else. If you are someone who has trouble concentrating like myself, you probably have come up with some coping mechanisms already. If you haven’t, though, here are some ideas to help you refine your focus.

DealDash fidget spinner

Fidget Spinners

Have you seen the newest and hottest toy that every kid at the bus stop wants to have? Fidget spinners are HOT with the school crowd, but they can actually be helpful for adults with focus problems, as well. Fidget spinners were actually invented way back in the 1990s but didn’t gain popularity until the past year or so. They are typically made of hard plastic and have metal bearings in them that help them spin in your hands. They can help you channel your focus by playing with them for a few minutes when things get too overwhelming. After you’ve had a short break with a fidget spinner you can return to your task with a fresh mind.

Meditation

Meditation can be as simple as sitting quietly by yourself, or more involved with candles, dim lights, and soft music. The purpose of meditation is to sit quietly and think deeply about a certain subject in order to gain clarity or focus. The end-game of meditation is to be able to clear your mind of the thoughts that are bothering or nagging you. If you’re having trouble with your focus, then meditation might be a great help for you to gain focus on your goals, tasks, and ambitions.

Exercise

Exercise can be a great tool to help you gain focus. When you are committed to an exercise program it can flow through into other parts of your life and help you with your focus. Exercise has many great mental perks as well as physical ones. If you have a problem that is bothering you and you go for a long walk or run, you might be able to work out some solutions during your time of solitude. When you think about it that way, exercise is kind of like meditation while you’re moving.

Strange Uses for Coffee from DealDash

dealdash coffee

Most people love to drink coffee, but did you know that there are lots of uses for our favorite bean? Read on to find out, from DealDash.

Iced, hot, or lukewarm – I don’t care what the temperature is, I love to drink coffee. However, coffee isn’t just delicious to drink, you can also use the beans and grounds for some pretty strange and useful things. Are you ready to hear some of the strange uses? Read on…

Steak Rub

I would have never thought to run coffee on my steak – even just the thought of it sounded very strange to me. However, my husband and I are avid fans of Restaurant Week in Boston, and one of our favorite places is Capitol Grill. They have the most delicious Kona-Crusted Sirloin on their Restaurant Week menu every year. Yum, yum! The next time you’d like to try something new on your steak, use some freshly ground coffee that’s been toasted for just a moment under the broiler in the oven. Just mix it in with your regular steak seasonings, and rub it onto the meat before you stick it on the grill.

Face Exfoliant

Coffee grounds make an excellent facial exfoliant. Put some of your regular facial cleanser in your hands, and mix in the coffee grounds. Rub this cleansing scrub all over your face for approximately 2 minutes. Rinse off, and top with moisturizer. The coffee grounds will help get rid of your dry, flaky skin, and the caffeine in them will temporarily tighten your pores. Win-win!

Composting and Fertilizing

If you’re looking for a cheap composting agent, try coffee grounds mixed with lye. Surprisingly, the grounds themselves are a good food source for worms, and it adds grit to the worms’ digestive system allowing them to digest better.

Additionally, coffee grounds can make an excellent fertilizer for plants that like acidic soil. Why? This is because Coffee is high in nitrogen, calcium, magnesium, potassium and other trace minerals which are excellent for your plants.

  4. Fill another shallow dish with the crushed snack mix
  5. Remove skin from all of the chicken pieces
  6. Dip chicken in butter to coat; then dip in snack mix, coating evenly
  7. Place chicken in prepared pan
  8. Bake your coated chicken pieces for 50 minutes

Tips to Make this Recipe Easier

This recipe is super easy to make, but there are a few things that you can do to make it even easier. For starters, the easiest way to pulverize the snack mix is in the food processor. If you don’t have a food processor you should make it your mission to win won on DealDash. Otherwise, you can double-bag the snack mix in gallon freezer bags and use a rolling pin on them.

Another thing to make this recipe even easier is to use the “shake and bake” method. You can put your crushed snack mix into a large gallon freezer bag, place each butter-coated piece of chicken into the bag, zip it, and shake. So simple and easy!!

DealDash Explains Rain Barrels

DealDash Do you have a rain barrel to capture rain to use on your lawn and garden? If not, it’s a smart way to conserve both water and money.

Have you ever thought about having a rain barrel for your home? Basically, a rain barrel is a way to collect rainwater that lands on your house and goes down your gutters so you can use it later. The idea is to place a rain barrel below one (or more) of the gutter spouts on your home and use a spigot to get the water. A rain barrel is easy to set up with some supplies that are available at Lowe’s or another hardware store. Please don’t use your collected rainwater for drinking. The rainwater can be used to water plants, water the lawn, or to wash your car or deck. Let DealDash explain rain barrels to you.

Where Will You Place Your Barrel?

You can place your barrel under any of the gutter downspouts on your home. However, there are definitely advantages and disadvantages of where you choose to place it. For example, most people would prefer to place their barrel on the back side of their house rather than in the front. Also, keep in mind that the rain barrel will be hundreds of pounds when it’s full of water, so you’ll want to place it in a place where it’s easy to access and in close proximity to where you will want to use the water.

What Kind of Barrel to Use

A rain barrel,  simply put, is a barrel with a hole in the top that collects water from the gutter downspout on your home. The fancy ones have filtration systems, but if you’re just using the water to water your plants or the lawn that doesn’t really matter too much. You will want to be sure that there is a screen on the opening, though, so that no little critters decide to jump in for a swim.

You can pick up a standard 55-gallon rain barrel from Lowes or a similar hardware store. This is the best way to go about it, though you can get creative with a wine barrel or other large barrel that you have in your possession.

Catch the Overflow

A commercially made rain barrel will always have a spigot and/or drain valve near the bottom to connect a hose to or fill a bucket from. The rain barrel should also have a way to control overflow, this is quite important.

It’s important to control the overflow because if you don’t then the water is just going to spill out of the barrel when it’s full and it will pool around the foundation of your house, which isn’t good. You can either drill a small hole at the top of your rain barrel and attach a hose leading away from the house so when the barrel is almost full it will start diverting the water elsewhere – or you can even buy a second rain barrel and divert the water into it so you won’t lose any of the precious water that you have collected.

Thanks for Reading

Finally, thanks so much for reading this new DealDash article on rain barrels. Good luck in getting yours set up. It’s a great way to save money on your water and sewer bill for your home.

DealDash Helps: Begin Journaling

DealDash

Journaling is good for your mental health and well-being. Here are some tips for getting started from DealDash.

Have you ever tried keeping a journal? If you haven’t tried journal writing yet, or you have but let it fall by the wayside, or just didn’t really get into it, there is no time like the present to try again. Journaling is a nice hobby that you can do from anywhere, is practically free, and is very fun to look back on years down the line. Here are some tips and ideas to help you, from DealDash.

Find a Journal

Your journal can be as inexpensive as a spiral notebook from the dollar store, or as expensive as you choose. One of the great things about a journal is that you can take it anywhere with you, just stick it in your purse, pocket, backpack, or laptop case. You don’t need an electrical plug or wi-fi, or anything other than just your paper and pen.

However, some people enjoy buying fancy journals with thick paper. And other people like to buy journals pre-printed with the date so it reminds them to write a little bit every day. That’s another thing that’s great about journaling – it’s totally customizable.

What Will You Write About?

Personally, I am the type of person who likes to buy the journals with the pre-printed dates. It has enough space to write just a little bit about your day, and it’s not overwhelming at all. Honestly, completely blank journals make me feel a little anxious like I should be writing lots and lots, so the ones with just a few lines per day are perfect for me.

Other people prefer to have pages with lines so they can make lists, ideas, and inventions. Other people like the kind with lines to write poetry or music. And yet there are other people who like their journals to be completely blank so they can draw or tape in pictures. That’s the wonderful thing about journaling, it’s completely up to you how you would like to do it.

When Will You Write?

You can write anytime, day or night. Some people like to have a strict schedule of writing in their journal, such as immediately upon waking, or right before bed. Other people don’t write in their journals every day, only when the mood strikes them. There is no right or wrong time to write in your journal.

DealDash Helps Ease Seasonal Allergies

dealdash allergies Seasonal allergies affect approximately 50 million people in the US. Chances are, you or a family member are affected. Here are some tips from DealDash to help.

First of all, there’s no getting around seasonal allergies altogether. Even with medications, you will still feel some mild symptoms. The good news is, though, that you can greatly reduce the worst symptoms in a variety of different ways. Read on to find out how.

Natural Remedies

If your allergy symptoms are already on the mild side, why not try some natural remedies before you use medication? Natural remedies are more gentle on your body than medications, and some of them are quite pleasant.

Eucalyptus has a smell that can clear your nasal passages naturally. Try inhaling steam from water with eucalyptus oil added to it or using an oil diffuser with eucalyptus oil added.

Another great essential oil that you can use to ease your allergy symptoms is frankincense. This essential oil can boost the immune system, and if you suffer from seasonal allergies, it’s a wonderful addition to your natural health regimen.

A neti pot is another great natural remedy to use for any sort of nasal congestion, whether it’s from allergies or from a cold. A neti pot uses warm salt water to clean out your nasal passages and can be quite effective. You can purchase a neti pot at most big box stores and pharmacies.

Antihistamine Medications Can Help

If natural remedies aren’t cutting it, then it’s time to step-up your allergy regimen with some over-the-counter medication. Using oral antihistamines can improve your drippy nose and itchy and watery eyes. Another great form of antihistamine is nasal. Nasal antihistamine spray can reduce sneezing, stuffy sinuses, and all things allergy related for the nose. The final antihistamine medication I would like to mention is antihistamine drops for the eyes. Antihistamine eye drops can improve itchy, swollen, and red eyes.

DealDash Drinks Green Tea

DealDash green tea

Many people enjoy black tea or iced tea, but did you know that green tea is much healthier? It’s true! Read on to find out more…

Not only is green tea a delightful, light-flavored beverage, it’s also chock full of health benefits. Surprisingly enough, it is even considered an important nutritional means for warding off cancer. Isn’t that amazing?

How Do I Make Green Tea?

There are three main ways that you can make green tea. They are tea bag, tea ball, or loose tea. Each of these methods is pretty simple, and no matter which way you choose you will end up with healthy, nutritious, and delicious green tea.

Tea Bag –

This one is easy! Simply put your tea bag into your cup and pour boiling water over it. Steep the tea for approximately 5 minutes before drinking.

Tea Ball –

Also very simple, the tea ball is very much like the tea bag. Just fill up your tea ball with 1 scoop of green tea, pour boiling water into your cup, and add the tea ball. Steep the tea for approximately 5 minutes before drinking.

Loose Tea –

The loose tea method is personally my least favorite, but some people love it! Firstly, you will need a teapot that’s easy to clean. Fill the teapot with approximately the amount of water you will need to fill your teacup or cups if you are making multiple cups. Boil your water, but turn it off as soon as it begins to bubble. Put 1 scoop of green tea into the teapot for each cup of green tea that you would like to make. Let it steep for a few minutes, and then pour through a strainer into your cup.

If you don’t mind the occasional stray tea leaf in your cup, then you don’t need to use the strainer. Personally, I dislike getting any tea leaves into my cup, so I always use a strainer.

What Else Can Be Done With Green Tea?

Traditionally, green tea is consumed hot and plain, with no additions. However, if you are drinking green tea for the health benefits and would prefer a little bit of flavor, try adding something from my list below.

  • Lemon
  • Orange
  • Sugar
  • Honey
  • Mint

DealDash Combats Negative Attitudes

DealDash

Having a good attitude and a positive outlook on life can be half of the battle of having a good day. Here are some tips and tricks from DealDash to help.

If you’re already a person who has a sunny, happy attitude, then you probably don’t need too much help in this department! However, if you are more of a “Negative Nelly” then maybe you should take some of these tips to heart. When you have a good attitude and a positive outlook on life then everything seems just a little bit easier.

Be an Active Participant in Your Good Day

Sometimes people can be perceived as having a negative attitude not because they actually have a bad attitude, but because they seem ambivalent. If you want people to think that you have a happy and positive attitude, then try to actively do things to make your day better. Spend time with people that make you happy, go for a walk, spend time with your pets. Whatever makes you happy!

Leave the Negativity Behind

You should not only strive for the positive but leave the negativity behind, as well. This includes bad habits, things that make you unhappy, and even negative people. This is something that I have said to my kids and a few friends as well – if someone makes you feel anything other than happy or neutral on a regular basis, then you don’t really need to spend time with them. Life is too short to spend time with people that make you unhappy.

No One’s Perfect

Try to let go of any unrealistic expectations that you have. You can get into a habit of thinking negatively because things don’t go as you planned. Nothing in life is certain, sometimes things go wrong, and it’s important that we all try to adjust. If you don’t have a lot of excitement built up about things, then you won’t feel as badly if they don’t go exactly as you planned.

DealDash Helps: Keep Your Pet’s Food Bowls Clean

Dealdash pets animals cat dog

No matter what type of pet you have it’s important to keep their food and water bowls clean. Here are some tips and tricks from DealDash to help you.

You like to eat from clean dishes and bowls, correct? Well, so does your pet! By regularly cleaning your pet’s dishes, you can prevent bacterial growth that could make him or her sick. In addition, you can make his or her eating and drinking experiences much more enjoyable! And that’s what we all want for our pets, right?

Hand-Washing the Old Fashioned Way

Not everyone has a dishwasher, and some people even prefer to wash the dishes by hand. If you choose to wash your pet’s dishes by hand, then be sure to choose a mild dishwashing liquid. If you are not sure which detergents are mild, check the product labels for indications that the product would be soft on your hands. If you want to be extra sure that the dishwashing detergent is safe for your favorite pet, then you can even make your own! It only takes a moment. Just combine equal parts of baking soda, warm water, and table salt.

After washing your pet’s dish, it’s smart to disinfect it as well. If you haven’t scrubbed the dishes quite well enough by just hand-washing, then you should definitely disinfect them. Don’t worry, it’s easy. To disinfect the dish after scrubbing it, mix one gallon of water with one tablespoon of bleach. Add this mixture to the dish and let it sit for about two minutes before rinsing it out. Be sure to rinse it very well.

Better Yet, Wash Them in the Dishwasher

No matter how hot the water is that you use when hand-washing the dishes, it probably isn’t as hot as a dishwasher gets. A dishwasher gets all the way up to 140 degrees F to remove and kill bacteria. To prevent cross-contamination with the human family’s dishes, it is preferable to wash your pet’s dishes by themselves in the dishwasher. Be sure to have two sets of pet dishes for when one of them is in the dishwasher.

Of course, doing a whole dishwasher cycle for just a few dishes is rather wasteful. If it doesn’t bother you to put your own dishes in with your pet’s, it is fine if you have a ‘sanitize’ setting on your dishwasher. This setting effectively kills and removes all bacteria, thus preventing cross-contamination issue that we previously discussed. Be sure to wash your pet’s dishes a few times a week. Your pet will thank you for it!

Happy Mother’s Day from DealDash!!

dealdash mother's day

Happy Mother’s Day to all of you moms and grandmas out there! If you’re going out for fun today, here are some ideas from DealDash.

Today is your day, moms and grandmas! Are you spending time with your kids or grandkids? Or do you prefer to take the day for some “me time?” It’s your day, you do whatever you want to do today, and let someone else worry about the rest. Here are some ideas from DealDash to enjoy your day.

Sleep In, Mom

Today of all days is when you can take all of the time that you want and enjoy sleeping in. Personally, with three kids, I never get to sleep in except on Mother’s Day and my birthday. Soak up those wonderful Z’s, refresh your body and your mind.

Make Sure Someone Else Does the Chores

Don’t let your family let the dishes pile up and the carpets go unvacuumed for the day. If you’re normally the person who does the bulk of the chores, be sure to take the day off and assign those chores to someone else. If you don’t, they will just go undone and you’ll have to do them the next day. That’s not really giving you a break, that’s just putting them off. Ask your family nicely, and I’m sure that they will be happy to take over on this special day, mom.

Head Out for Brunch

Muummm, doesn’t brunch sound good? The only decision that you have to make now is do you want to go to brunch with your family or with some girlfriends? It’s your choice, though I’m sure that your kids would love to come with you. Mother’s Day brunches are always extra special and delicious. Be sure that you call ahead and put your name on the waiting list, you don’t want to wait around too long on your special day.

Take In a Movie

If you decided to go to brunch with your family, why don’t you send them home and call up a few girlfriends? It’s time for a movie matinee, and I’m sure that you’re not in the mood to see the latest cartoon movie. Pick whatever you like, mom, there are some great movies out, and I bet you had the foresight to pick up an AMC gift card from DealDash. That’s right, use your gift card for the movie as well as the snacks! Don’t worry about the calories today, it’s your own personal holiday.

DealDash Helps You Make More Friends

DealDash friends

Making friends after you’re out of school can be difficult. Here are some tips and ideas from DealDash to make more friends.

There are literally zero negatives when it comes to making more friends and being a fun person to be around. There are only upsides. But how do you get into this habit of being extra pleasant and making more friends? Let DealDash help.

Keep it Polite and Friendly

It might go without saying, but to make new friends you need to be friendly! Living in a rather cold and impersonal place like Boston, it’s been very difficult to make friends. However, with my Southern manners and polite attitude, I have been able to develop a wide network of friends and acquaintances.

There’s no reason to be anything less than polite to anyone that you meet for the first time. When you meet someone be sure to look them in the eye and give them a friendly smile and introduce yourself in a pleasant way. You might not make any lasting friendships this way, but people will remember you as a nice person and will be happy to see you again in the future.

Don’t Lose Your Cool

Of course, there will be times when someone aggravates, annoys, or even angers you. The key to handling this problem is to keep your cool, think things out, and don’t say anything that you might regret later on. You might be upset inside, but keep it cool on the outside. Later on, you can vent to a trusted friend or family member if you feel like you need to. When people see that you are able to keep calm and collected even when you’re upset they will think highly of you.

Keep it Confident

People want to be friends with confident people. There are few people in the world who are looking for a sad person who mopes around. People are drawn to confidence and want to surround themselves with confident people. This should be you! There’s no reason not to be confident! Let that pride in yourself shine through, and people will want to be around you and bask in it. Of course, overconfidence isn’t really attractive, either. It’s a fine line to walk, but I’m sure that you can do it!

DealDash Helps: Keep Your Blood Pressure Down

DealDash Blood Pressure

High blood pressure is a problem that many Americans cope with on a daily basis. Here are some tips and tricks from DealDash to keep your blood pressure in check.

High blood pressure is also called hypertension. Hypertension is a serious risk factor for strokes, kidney disease, and heart attacks and disease. Be sure to visit your doctor yearly and have your blood pressure checked regularly. A blood pressure of 140/90 or 150/90 in those who are 60 years of age and older is considered high. You can avoid high blood pressure by exercising, eating a healthy diet, and managing stress.

Watch Your Diet

Avoiding hypertension is important, especially as you get older. Eating a heart-healthy diet full of fruits and vegetables is very important to help you avoid high blood pressure. Certain nutrients have been found to help prevent high blood pressure: potassium, calcium, magnesium, and omega-3s. You can easily get all of these nutrients that you need by eating a diet that’s full of heart-healthy foods such as almonds, leafy greens, squash, yogurt, and beans.

Cut Out the Salt

Americans eat far too much salt in their diet. Consuming so much salt can lead to high blood pressure. Dietary guidelines state that everyone over the age of 2 should consume less than 2,300 mg of salt daily. Many Americans consume double that, daily.

Get Your Exercise

Another way to help keep your blood pressure down is to perform regular exercise. Exercising a few times per week (ideally daily) lowers your risk of high blood pressure by 20% to 50%. Doctors recommend 30 to 60 minutes of exercise each day, or a total of 150 minutes per week. Speaking of exercise, it’s a very important part of maintaining a healthy weight.

Maintain a Healthy Weight

Being a healthy weight for your height is also an important part of keeping your blood pressure down.  Experts claim that a large waist circumference can be a predictor of high blood pressure and heart disease. Studies show that waist measurements of 40 inches or more for men, 35 inches or more for women are linked to high blood pressure. However, if you take the above-mentioned guidelines regarding healthy food and exercising and follow them, then you shouldn’t have too much trouble maintaining a healthy weight.

Try to Avoid Excess Stress

Let’s face it, there’s no way to completely avoid all stress. With jobs, families, and everything else that you have on your plate, it’s normal to be stressed out sometimes. However, there are many ways that you can reduce eliminate some of those stresses. Try yoga, meditation, or napping.

DealDash Makes: Latte Art

DealDash latte art

Latte art is a fun, creative, and inexpensive hobby. Read on for tips and tricks from DealDash to get started.

For starters, if you aren’t familiar with latte art, it refers to patterns made in the foam that tops espresso drinks. It can be just about anything that you wish, from the simple such as the heart design up above, to extremely intricate, such as the series of cats pictured below.

DealDash cat latte art

Aren’t those latte art pictures of cats amazing?! Those were most likely done with a combination of pouring skills and stencils. There is truly no right or wrong way to make latte art, as long as you are having fun and are happy with the art that you produce.

How Do I Do It?

First, you will need a latte coffee drink in a cup and some steamed milk. The best way to get steamed milk is with the milk frother on your coffee maker, but you can also make steamed milk by putting milk in the microwave for a few minutes, then putting a top on your container and shaking it. You can also get frothy milk by heating milk in a pot on the stove and whisking it.

Pour your espresso into the bottom of the cup and then add a small amount of your steamed milk and swirl to incorporate it. Pour slowly and evenly at a fairly high distance. As you reach the second half of the cup, bring the pitcher closer to the surface. This layer will not incorporate, creating a distinction between the white foam and the body of the latte.

Basic Designs

Heart:

  • Starting off with the milk container close to the top of the cup, pour a little bit of milk in.
  • Lifting the pitcher an inch or so up, pour one-half of a circle, making sure to move the milk pitcher, not the mug.
  • Hold the stream of milk in the same place, but wiggle the milk pitcher back and forth as you make a ringed circle.
  • When your milk is almost completely poured, swing the milk up to create the bottom tip of your heart.

Flower:

  • Pour the milk about an inch away from the bottom.
  • Once the cup is about half filled, gently shake the milk container back and forth while slowly moving backward. The flower design will move forward, filling the cup.

As with anything else, these things take a lot of practice. Finally, here is a quick YouTube video to get you started.

DealDash: Take a Deep Breath and Relax

DealDash Relax

Relaxation is an important part of your health. Are you taking the time to really breathe and relax? Let DealDash help.

Are you getting in enough relaxation in your schedule? It’s very important to your health to have some “me time” to relax. Relaxation and knowing that you’re going to have some time to yourself is very important for not only your physical but your mental health as well. Time spent doing exactly what you want to do, and not having to take care of anyone else’s’ needs for a short amount of time can really make a huge difference in your overall outlook on life.

Spend Lots of Time With Family

If you have the chance, be sure that you are spending time with your family, as long as they make you feel happy and relaxed. You probably won’t remember all of the times that you stayed late at work, or brought your work home with you when you didn’t absolutely have to. But you might make some great memories with your family.

If your family isn’t the sort that relaxes and invigorates you, then be sure to make some time to spend with your friends. Because, you know, friends are the family that you choose for yourself.

Entertainment Shopping

I don’t know what your personal hobby is, but mine is shopping! Of course, everytime that I say that my husband groans and rolls his eyes. It’s true, though. Mall shopping, outlet shopping, garage sailing, and online shopping, I love it all.

DealDash is my favorite place to online shop though, can you guess why? The main reason is the BIN (Buy It Now) feature. If I see something that I like on DealDash, I don’t just BUY it outright, I bid on it first. If I happen to win, awesome! However, if I don’t win, no biggie. I can just pay the retail price that I was originally going to pay, and DealDash will give me all of my bids back. Easy! All DealDash orders also include free shipping, too!

DealDash Helps: Attract Birdies to Your Yard

dealdash attracts birds

Do you like cute little birdies? Now that it’s Spring there are little birds all over the place. Here are a few tips and tricks from DealDash to attract them to your yard.

If you have an inviting space and a little bit of patience you should be able to attract some adorable little birdies into your yard. You just need a few supplies, and some time, and soon enough your yard will be overflowing with the beautiful chirps of sweet little birds.

What Kind of Birds are Local to You?

Do you know what sorts of birds live in your area? If not, then you’ll first need to do a little research. You can easily do this research online by going to your favorite search engine and typing in your zip code and “local birds”. You could also pick up a field guide, or even go to your local farm store or plant nursery and ask them. They will most likely know what the most common ones are in your area.

Create a Comfy Bird Area

Once you know what kind of birds are local to you then you can prepare a nice area according to what they enjoy. Some birds like to live in birdhouses, and other houses like to build their own nests.

Provide Your Tiny Guests with Food

After you have figured out what type of birds you can attract and what type of housing they enjoy, then it’s time to feed them. There are different types of feeders, and depending on what type of birds you can attract you will want to adjust the feeding. You can choose window feeders, suet feeders, and tray feeders. Also, you could go completely low-tech and just scatter the seed, but you’ll be more likely to attract furry critters rather than the feathered friends you’re desiring.

Now that you know where to put the food, what sorts of food should you use? There are lots of types of food, regular birdseed is just the beginning. You can also feed most birds corn, millet, and suet. Of course, you’ll want to choose the type of food based on what type of little birdie that you’re attracting.

Don’t forget the Water!

Now that you’ve got housing and food sorted out, it’s time for water. Birds love to bathe and preen in the water, so get those birdies a bath. A birdbath is not only great for the birds, but it will also look great in your yard.

DealDash Helps You Sleep Better

DealDash Helps you sleep better

Do you have trouble sleeping? There are a few things that you can do to get more sleep at night. Let DealDash help.

Let’s face it, we all probably don’t get enough sleep at night. Maybe you have a hard time getting asleep, or staying asleep. Maybe you toss and turn and are restless at night. No matter what your sleep issue is, DealDash has some ideas to help you get more rest so you can have better days.

Have a Sleepy Routine

When you’re trying to get your small child used to sleeping at night, they say that having a sleep routine makes things easier. Well, it helps adults to have a sleep routine as well. It doesn’t matter what your routine is, as long as you do it faithfully every night. A sample routine could be:

  • Take a shower
  • Brush your teeth
  • Put on your facial night time moisturizer
  • Read 1 chapter of a book

That’s just an example, maybe you take a shower in the morning, so you just wash your face at night. Whatever works for you, as long as you do it faithfully every night.

Is Your Bed Comfy?

A comfortable bed is another key to successful sleeping. If your mattress is older than 10 years, you might want to think about investing in a new one. If you have a newer mattress, great! Are you using comfortable pillows? How about your bedding? Is it soft, clean, and comfortable? If you need new pillows, sheets, and blankets, DealDash can help you out with that! DealDash offers numerous different pillows and comforters up for auction quite often. If sheets are what you’re needing, even better. DealDash offers sheets up for auction pretty much every day.

Let Your Mind Relax

If you’re stressed out it’s going to be very difficult for you to sleep well. How can you let your mind relax? Try listening to some nice, calming music before bed. Other people find that writing in a journal helps to clear the mind of stressful things before sleeping. If all of that fails, try talking to a friend or family member before bed to help you relax and de-stress. Whatever helps calm your mind is what you should do – no matter how weird it might sound.

DealDash on Cooking Vegetarian

DealDash cooks vegetarian

Meatless Monday is a very popular trend. You don’t have to be a vegetarian to cook a delicious vegetarian meal.

Have you ever participated in Meatless Monday? Many families who aren’t vegetarian like to participate in this trend for many reasons such as to be healthier and to save money. However, cooking vegetarian isn’t just making a salad. There are lots of different things that you can do to make your meatless meals more tasty and appetizing for your family.

Start Slow

You don’t want to scare your family off with anything too “out of the ordinary” at first. You might already be making some wonderful vegetarian meals without even thinking about it. Many pasta dishes can be just as delicious without the meat, such as lasagna or pasta roll-ups with ricotta cheese and noodles – delicious!

There are other ways to go meatless without completely giving up the taste and feel of meat. There are many meat-replacement products available at the store. These include substitutes for beef, chicken, and shellfish.

Go With the Seasons

I will be the first to admit that I really hate canned and frozen vegetables. They just taste old and stale to me. However, buying lots of fresh fruits and vegetables can be very expensive if you buy them out of season. Shopping and eating seasonally will be easier on your budget as well as taste delicious. If you are trying to save money, you won’t really be saving any if you end up throwing a lot of the food away simply because it doesn’t taste good, or your family doesn’t like it. My husband is a real stickler for not throwing food away, so I try to always buy the freshest and best-looking produce that I can find to minimize waste.

Get the Whole Family Involved

Cooking vegetarian meals without getting your family on board first can be difficult if they are used to eating a lot of meat. If you can recruit the rest of the family to assist you in choosing the meals, shopping at the supermarket, and helping prepare and cook the food they will be more likely to eat it. Remember, you won’t really be doing their health or your wallet any favors if they don’t want to eat the meals that you have prepared, even if they are vegetarian. Remember, start this gradually, and before you know it your family might occasionally request a few of their favorite vegetarian meals that you have introduced them to.

DealDash Helps: Keep Pets Off the Furniture

DealDash Helps Keep pets off furniture

Pets are a huge part of the average American family’s lifestyle. They give so much love yet leave so much fur. Here are some tips from DealDash to keep the pets off of the furniture.

Many people have pets that live indoors all of the time, and these pets tend to get onto the furniture and leave fur. This is bad for the furniture and for your clothing as well. It can be tricky to break the bad habit of the pets jumping on the furniture, but it can be done. Here are some tips, tricks, and ideas from DealDash to help train Fido and Fluffy to stay off of the furniture.

Prevention is Better Than a Cure

If you haven’t gotten your pet yet, plan to spend some time when you first get them to train them to stay off of the furniture. It’s so much easier to teach them to stay off of the furniture in the beginning than it is to break them of the bad habit later on. Do yourself a favor and remember this fact for the next time you get a new pet.

Get Your Pet Their Own Place

You’re going to have a hard time keeping your pets off of the furniture if they don’t have anywhere else to go. With that said, you don’t have to buy your pet the fanciest, most expensive bed out there. A bed from the discount store will work, as well as a soft pillow or blanket. Just think, of you didn’t have a chair, couch, or bed to sit and sleep on – you would find a comfy spot for yourself, as well. Be kind to your furniture, and get your pet their own cozy spot to sleep and rest comfortably.

Confine Them to a Crate

Now, don’t keep Fido or Fluffy confined to a crate more often than you need to. However, when you aren’t around to supervise them then a crate can be a comfy and cozy little space for them to spend their time. This is an especially useful suggestion for dogs, who actually enjoy having a crate to retreat to when things get a little stressful.

Use Double-Sided Tape on Furniture

This trick is especially useful for cats – use double-sided sticky tape on any place that your cat likes to jump up on. This includes the counter tops and tables as well as the chairs and furniture. The double-sided tape is a completely safe and harmless alternative to keep your pets off of any areas that you don’t want them to lay on. The tape works great, give it a try.

DealDash has a Yard Sale

DealDash has a yard sale

Spring is here, and summer is coming. Maybe it’s time to have a yard sale.

Do you have a lot of extra things in your house that you don’t use anymore? A yard sale is a great way to free up some space in your house as well as make a little extra cash. Let DealDash help you prepare for a yard sale.

What Exactly is a Yard Sale?

Depending on where you live in the USA, you might call it something else. My husband is from Connecticut and they call them “tag sales” there. In other parts of the country, they call them garage sales. However, they all mean the same thing – selling your old items at your house on the cheap.

What Do You Need?

You need to have a few things before you put all of your old stuff out on your lawn you need a few supplies. You’ll probably be having your sale on Saturday, or maybe Sunday. So on Friday, you’ll want to make some signs with your address on them advertising your sale and put them up in your neighborhood.

You’ll also need to get price stickers and label all of the things that you want to sell. People really dislike it when they come to your yard sale and nothing is labeled. People can be shy or antisocial and really don’t care to ask the prices on your items. My suggestion to you is to price things slightly higher than you actually want – maybe by a dollar or so. People tend to haggle over every little thing, so you might as well try to beat them at their own game.

Tables or blankets to spread all of your things out on are a good idea as well. You can just toss everything in the lawn on or the driveway, but things will look much nicer if they are arranged carefully. People will be willing to pay a bit more if they think that you’ve taken good care of your things.

Finally, you’ll need to have change on hand. You need quarters, dollars, fives, and tens. You should quickly be overflowing with all sorts of change and dollar bills, but in the beginning of your sale you will need to supply your own. You don’t want to miss out on a sale because you don’t have any change to give them.

DealDash Helps: Make Shoes More Comfortable

DealDash Helps Painful Shoes

Everyone has had a pair of uncomfortable shoes. DealDash is here to help you fix that! Read on…

Many shoes need to be “broken in” by wearing them a few times, and they will gradually get more comfortable with more wearings. However, there are a few other things that you can do in the meantime to help make them more comfortable.

Insoles are Your Friend

Shoe insoles are a multi-million dollar per year enterprise and all of those people couldn’t be wrong! Shoe insoles can help your shoes feel more comfortable, especially if you have fallen arches and need a little assistance in that department.

Baby Powder Works

You might find yourself having sweaty, uncomfortable shoes and feet in the summer. The simple, cheap, and easy solution to that is baby powder! You just sprinkle some on your feet or in your shoes and you’re good to go. Sweaty feet can cause rubbing and chafing, and the baby powder can help prevent that from happening.

Make Sure They Fit

Women are notorious for wearing shoes that are just a bit too small for them – myself included. This is terribly bad for your feet and makes your feet feel crampy and achy at the end of the day. Ladies, trust me, no one but you can tell the difference if you’re wearing a size 8 or 8.5 shoe. The size difference is barely discernable to the eye but can make a world of difference in the comfort of your feet.

On the other hand, shoes too big aren’t good, either. Sometimes when you’re out shoe shopping you see an amazing deal, but they just don’t have your size. Occasionally you might buy a pair that’s a tiny bit big if you really love them. Well, don’t do it! Shoes that are too big can cause rubbing and chafing as well. The takeaway from this is to be sure that you have been fitted properly for shoes. There i

The takeaway from this is to be sure that you have been fitted properly for shoes. There is a shoe store at most malls that will measure your feet with a special pad that you step on. It gives the exact dimensions of your feet so you can be sure that you’re wearing the exact right size for your feet.

How Can I fix Too Tight Shoes?

If your shoes are just a bit snug it can be an easy fix. To fix this, put on two thick pairs of socks, put the shoes on, and blast them with the hair dryer until the shoes have softened up. After the shoes are soft, then turn the hair dryer off and continue wearing the shoes until they have cooled down.

DealDash Cleans: Your Ceiling Fans

DealDash cleans

Ceiling fans can be very tricky to clean. Here are some tips and tricks from DealDash to help you.

Ceiling fans can be tricky to clean for a few reasons – of course, the biggest reason is the fact that they are so high up. If you have vaulted or cathedral ceilings it can be a real problem. The other reason that they can be hard to clean is that they are usually very awkward to clean, you usually end up with the dirt all over you no matter how careful you are. Here are some ideas from DealDash to help you clean those fans.

Use an Old Pillow Case

What? A pillowcase? That’s right! If your ceiling fan is easy to reach with a step stool or stepladder, then an old pillow case is the way to go. If you don’t have any pillow cases that you are willing to sacrifice to the, then pick up one from the thrift store for around $2.

Simply take the pillow case, put it on the fan blade, put one hand on the top and one on the bottom, and pull towards yourself.  The pillowcase will catch all of the dirt, dust, and grime inside. Repeat for the remaining fan blades.

To clean the pillowcase, go outside, flip it inside out, and shake the dust off. After shaking as much of the dust off as you can, pop it into the washing machine with your towels or bedding.

Vacuums Will Work

Hopefully, you have a vacuum with a fan blade attachment. That will make life easier on you.  If you don’t have a specific vacuum attachment for the fan, that’s okay, too. You can use any attachment that has a brush head.

Your vacuum will be the best way to clean your ceiling fans if you have high ceilings. Just put the vacuum attachment or brush attachment on, and extend the vacuum hose or handle. If you need to you can stand on a stepladder, just be careful not to trip over the cord.

Special Fan Cleaning Brush

If neither of the above options appeals to you, or your ceilings are too high, you can get a special fan-cleaning brush. These fan cleaning brushes can be purchased at any big box or hardware store, and are under $20. If you buy one of these, be sure that it’s either the type that you can buy refills for or the kind that can be washed in the washing machine. You don’t want to buy a fan cleaning brush that you just have to throw away when it gets dirty!

DealDash Self-Care Ideas for Spring

DealDash

As we’re coming out of the winter, self-care is really important. Here are some ideas from DealDash to pamper yourself.

Do you practice self-care? Practicing self-care, put simply, means to do things that make you feel good. These things can vary, depending on what you like. These can be things that nourish both your body or mind. Ideally, you can do a few different self-care practices so you can take care of yourself inside and out. If you are able to do these things regularly you will feel so much better even when things are stressful in other areas of your life. Here are some tips and ideas from DealDash.

Different Strokes

Self-care can mean different things to different people. For example, if you’re the outdoorsy, athletic, healthy sort, then maybe your idea of self-care is going for a hike, eating some fresh veggies, and then doing some yoga. For the more sedentary among us, self-care could be getting a pizza and watching a silly TV comedy. And for others, it could mean getting a massage, a mani-pedi, or other pampering activity. No one’s version of self-care is wrong, it’s whatever makes you feel happy, de-stressed, and relaxed.

Here’s to Your Body

There are many, many different self-care ideas for the body. Here are some ideas:

  • Get your makeup professionally done
  • Have a paraffin wax treatment on your hands and feet
  • Go get a massage
  • Get a haircut
  • Exercise, swim, do yoga, or take a walk
  • Sit in the hot tub

Here’s to Your Mind

Thinking of some self-care ideas for the body is easy, the mind is a little harder. Here are some ideas:

  • Meditate
  • Take a nap
  • Look at the clouds and daydream
  • Listen to your favorite music/watch Youtube music videos

Get Yourself a Little Something

If you’re short on time but want to do something nice for yourself, then get yourself a little something! It doesn’t have to be something big and fancy, it could be something as simple as a new magazine or even just an ice cream cone! One of the ways to feel the best about yourself is to do something for someone else. Why not invite a friend out to lunch and pay for the both of you? It would be a nice gesture, and you will get the pleasure of doing a friend a favor while doing something nice for yourself as well.

When you think about buying yourself something, think about DealDash! You can try and win yourself something nice such as jewelry, a purse, or a candle. If you don’t end up winning you can always BIN (Buy It Now) it and get all of your bids back to use again. Think about it!

DealDash Recipes: Crockpot Kalua Pork

DealDash kalua pork

Kalua pork is a delicious and very easy to make dish. A few minutes of prep will reward you.

As you might guess kalua pork originated in Hawaii. The original dish was actually cooked in a hole in the ground – and in some Hawaiian families, it still is! However, with people’s busy lives these days cooking in the crockpot or slow cooker makes life easy. Luckily, this is a dish that just takes a few minutes and a few dollars worth of supplies and you’ll be left with a delightful, tasty dinner.

Ingredients

  • 2 (ish) pounds of pork shoulder/pork butt/Boston butt meat
  • 1 Tablespoon Liquid Smoke (Hickory flavor)
  • 2 Tablespoons Hawaiian Sea Salt (red) – However if you can’t find this, you can use coarse sea salt instead.

Directions:

  1. Wash pork and pat dry with paper towels.
  2. Take a long-tined fork and poke your pork all over – flip it around in the crock pot to minimize pork juice splatter.
  3. Slowly pour the liquid smoke all over the pork while it’s in the slow cooker
  4. Sprinkle the salt on the pork, rubbing it in. Flip it around while you are rubbing the salt in so you get all of the sides salted.
  5. Cook in the crockpot on low for 8+ hours. You can cook this pork in the slow cooker for up to 12 hours.
  6. Shred with forks and spoon the juices over the shredded pork.
  7. Serve over rice, veggies, or a combination of the two.

DealDash Has Kitchen Essentials

Do you have a slow cooker or crock pot at home? It’s definitely a kitchen essential. I use mine every single week, sometimes twice a week. The slow cooker is the perfect way to make a home-cooked dinner for your family, even if you’re too busy to spend a lot of time in the kitchen.

Another excellent solution to the problem is a pressure cooker. You can make this exact same recipe in a pressure cooker. If you prefer to cook this recipe in a pressure cooker, you will need to leave it in there for an hour. Honestly, though, it tastes a lot better when you cook it on low in the slow cooker. However, if you’re short on time, then the pressure cooker is the way to go!
