Christmas is the perfect time to spend with your family, and especially with your kids. They will most likely be out of school for Christmas break, and you have an opportunity to create new memories. There is nothing like starting new traditions for Christmas. Christmas is a time where kids can enjoy themselves during their school break. Here are 3 fun and affordable Christmas activities for kids, from DealDash.

Holiday Lights

When you think of Christmas you think of lights and decorations. Gather your kids for a ride around the neighborhood. Put on some Christmas music and take a look at the Christmas lights that your neighbors put up. You can get into the Christmas spirit while enjoying the holiday lights with your kids. Some areas have holiday light tours that you can go on. Check with your local newspaper or town website to see if you have holiday light tours in your area.

This was actually my favorite Christmas activity when I was a child. We would drive around for hours on Christmas Eve looking at Christmas lights. It’s a wonderful memory that I will never forget.

Christmas Movies

Every year new Christmas movies come out, but it is also good to watch the classics. A good tradition to start is watching Christmas movies. Let each of your family members choose their favorite Christmas movie, and you can take turns watching them. Pop some popcorn into the microwave and enjoy a Christmas movie with your family. This is a great Christmas activity that everyone can enjoy since most Christmas movies are suitable for all ages.

DealDash Cooks: Using a Bread Machine

DealDash

If you love freshly baked bread, then you need to be using a bread machine. Read on for some tips from DealDash.

When you are baking nothing is better than freshly made bread. Unfortunately for many, they have difficulty making bread. One way that you can avoid the mistakes that can be made with traditional bread is by using a bread machine. Here are some reasons that you should use a bread machine, from DealDash.

You Can Make Fresh Bread Healthier

Firstly, and the biggest reason that you should be using a bread machine is that it is healthy for you. You will have complete control over what goes into your bread. You do not have to worry about any potentially harmful ingredients getting into the bread that you make. Easily make wheat bread or multi-grain bread with the bread machine. No more white bread full of carbs for you and your family.

Save Time Vs. Making Traditional Bread

Next, making bread with a bread machine is fun and can save you time. Of course, it won’t save you time if you typically get your bread at the supermarket. However, if you have been making fresh bread by hand, the bread machine is a Godsend. You can simply toss the needed ingredients in and you are all set to let the machine do most of the work. You can look up recipes and really get creative with what you are baking in your bread machine so you are not stuck with simple white bread.

Save Money With a Bread Machine

Furthermore, making with a bread machine is also going to save you money, too. You will not have to worry about buying bread in the store. Also, you can get many loaves of bread from the ingredients that you purchase to make bread in your bread machine. In addition, you will also save money on gas by not having to travel to the store as often.

Fun Family Project

Finally, it is super simple to use a bread machine so anyone of any skill level can use a bread machine. You, too, can easily learn how to use a bread machine from the instructions that come with it. And this would make a great project to do with your kids. They will be so proud of themselves when they learn how to make bread in the bread machine. Just pay attention to the instructions and you will be making bread in no time at all with your bread machine.

Fun Indoor Kid’s Activities from DealDash

kids-doing-crafts

Now that winter is upon us, most people have an innate desire to stay indoors. Kids tend to get bored with the same old activities, so here are some new ideas from DealDash to keep things fresh and fun.

Kids have so many more things to do indoors now than when I was a kid. When I was a kid, there were network TV cartoons on the weekend, Legos, and Barbies. Kids of today have practically unlimited games on their iPads, millions of YouTube videos to watch, and cartoons “on demand” through the cable provider. However, as soon as the weather gets nasty and they are forced to stay indoors, what do you hear? “I’m booooooooreddd.” Of course, these are the exact same children that were happy to watch countless hours of TV and iPad when it was nice outside, but I digress. Here are some fun indoor activities for your kids from DealDash.

  • Washi tape roads – Pick up a roll of washi tape (paper tape) at your local big box store (I have even seen it at the Dollar Store) and make tape roads on any floor surface. Washi tape is made out of paper and has a rather weak grip, so it’s very easy to remove from wood, tile, and carpet. It’s very similar to painter’s tape but in fun colors and patterns. After you have made your washi tape roads, drive your Hot Wheels cars around on them. This is a really fun activity if you have a large floor space.
  • Washi Tic-Tac-Toe – Staying on the washi tape theme, make tic-tac-toe grids on any floor surface. Make them really BIG, and use fun placeholders for your X’s and O’s such as each child’s favorite stuffed animals. You can also make hopscotch grids as well.
  • Indoor picnic – Find yourself a basket (any large basket or box will work) and fill it with lunch foods that your kids will enjoy for their indoor picnic. Try juice boxes, water bottles, packets of fruit snacks, string cheese, tubes of yogurt, and sandwiches. Don’t forget to pack plastic forks, paper plates, napkins, and most importantly – a picnic blanket! Have your picnic anywhere you like, except the kitchen. That just isn’t as fun!
  • Bake something together. What’s better than family bonding time, a learning experience, and a delicious treat, all with one activity? If sweets aren’t on your family’s menu, try making a pizza together.
  • Karaoke dance party – If you have a karaoke machine, great! However, if you haven’t won one on DealDash yet, you can find pretty much any song on YouTube with lyrics printed on the screen, have a Karaoke dance party with your kids in the living room. Choose some popular songs on the radio that they are familiar with (my daughter loves “Shake It Off” by Taylor Swift) and add in some favorites from your childhood. It’s extremely funny to hear my daughter sing “Life Is A Highway” by Tom Cochrane. For extra fun, dress up in party clothes!

I hope that you have enjoyed this list of fun indoor activities for your kids. If you still need to find the kids some more indoor toys, be sure to check out DealDash. DealDash has indoor toys for kids of all ages and stages. Visit DealDash now. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!

DealDash Cooks: Apple Crisp

Apples are America’s favorite fruit, and while they are awesome by themselves they are even better when baked into an apple crisp!

Did you know that 2,500 varieties of apples are grown in the US alone? Even more amazing than that, 7,500 varieties of apples are grown around the world. That’s a big difference from the choice of Granny Smith’s, Red & Golden Delicious, and Gala apples that are available in your local supermarket. Apples are grown in all 50 states, however, so no matter where you are in the US you should always be able to buy apples. Other than just eating them apples have lots of different uses such as making baby food, juice, apple sauce, apple butter or jelly and vinegar.

In my opinion, though, none of those uses are quite as delicious as making your apples into an apple crisp! Making an apple crisp is simple and fairly quick, please read on below for the recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 6 Gala apples (peeled, cored, and sliced up)
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon & 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (separated)
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cold butter

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
  • Mix apples with white sugar and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon in a bowl to coat; out into a 9-inch square baking dish
  • Mix brown sugar, oats, flour, and 1 teaspoon cinnamon in another bowl. Use a potato masher or 2 forks to mash cold butter into the oats mixture until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs; spread over the apples to the edges of the baking dish. Pat the top gently until evenly coated.
  • Bake in preheated oven until golden brown and sides are bubbling, about 40 minutes.

That’s it! Once that bad boy comes out of the oven serve it up warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side. Yum yum! Everyone I’ve ever served my apple crisp to has enjoyed it — or they are all really good at faking it!

If you are in need of any of the supplies mentioned in the recipe, such as measuring cups, measuring spoons, cutting boards, a baking dish, or a new set of kitchen knives to slice up the apples you should definitely check out DealDash. DealDash has all of these kitchen items and so much more to explore and bid on. You can check out DealDash’s Kitchen and Dining category located at this link right here. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!
