Taking great pictures is truly an art form. Here are some tips from DealDash to take amazing pictures.

Everyone loves to capture memories. Taking pictures is a great way to remember the good times in life. Many people take pictures for special events or occasions. Sometimes it can be difficult to get the best shot. You don’t need to be a professional photographer to take pictures. Here are 3 tips to take great pictures, from DealDash.

1-Purchase a Quality Camera

You cannot take great pictures without a quality camera. You need a camera that has a 4 megapixel or more and takes clear photos. One of the best brands of cameras is Canon cameras. They are a little pricey, but the quality of the pictures it takes is priceless.  You can get a camera at any mass merchandise store or even DealDash. A quality camera will improve your photos and will be easier to take.

2-Don’t Take Pictures in Direct Sunlight

The sunlight is very harsh on photos. It can cause blurry photos and unwanted shadows. You should take pictures in the shade. It is one of the easiest places to take pictures in. Another option is to wait for a nice cloudy day. If you cannot avoid the sunlight, try to use different filters during the editing process. You can also buy some inexpensive pop-up shades to help with the problem of direct sunlight when taking photos.

3-Use Window Lighting

Window lighting can improve the quality of your pictures. It is equal to a shady spot that is outside. Window lighting only works during the day, so it is best to take your pictures early in the day time. If you are taking a photo at night, make sure you turn all the lights on inside your house at night. You will take great pictures when you use window lighting.

DealDash Encourages New Hobbies

DealDash Hobbies

Hobbies are a great stress-reliever and can help you feel more positive about the rest of your life. Let DealDash help you explore some options.

You might already have a hobby or two that you enjoy, such as bidding on DealDash. However, expanding your horizons, learning new things, and doing things differently can help your brain stay young. Here are some tips and ideas from DealDash to help you explore some new hobbies in your spare time.

How Do I Find a New Hobby?

Firstly, I realize that finding a new hobby, especially if you’re an older person, can seem a little daunting. However, finding a new hobby doesn’t have to be difficult.

To find a new hobby, why not look around you, and see what hobbies you have right now. If you already have a hobby that you enjoy, why not expand on it? For example, if you like scrapbooking, why not pick up a camera and try your hand at photography? Once you have learned how to take great pictures you can use them in your scrapbooks. Or if you currently enjoy tennis as a hobby, why not take up golf as well?

If You Don’t Have Any Current Hobbies…

If you don’t have any current hobbies that you can expand on, why not go to the non-fiction section at the bookstore and see what peaks your interest? Maybe the cookbooks interest you, or perhaps woodworking, or even war history. No matter what non-fiction book you’re drawn to there is a hobby that will complement it.

Let Yourself Explore the Options

Lastly, if you pick up a new hobby that turns out to be a dud, don’t worry about it. Give it an honest chance, but if after a few weeks you’re not enjoying it at all feel free to move on to something else. Now, that’s not to say you should give up on something just because you’re not good at it right away, but if your new hobby doesn’t give you any joy then choose something else with a clear conscience.

I hope that you found this new DealDash article on expanding your hobbies helpful. If you are shopping for a camera, sports item, or other, check DealDash first. DealDash Celebrates National Bird Day Today

DealDash National Bird Day

January 5th is National Bird Day! Join DealDash in celebrating this beautiful little animal.

Happy National Bird Day! This day was first established by bird activists but is now enjoyed by many people. Here’s a tip- since it’s National Bird Day, why not take a few minutes to watch, enjoy, and observe birds, as well as to feed them. Join DealDash in learning a little more about birds.

Bird Watching

People love birds, and bird watching is a favorite pastime of millions of people. You might not have been able to guess, but it’s the most popular of hobbies. The reason that it’s the most popular is that it can be enjoyed by everyone regardless of age, gender, or financial situation. It’s truly a hobby that anyone can pick up quite easily.

If you’re interested in bird watching I suggest that you get yourself a pair of binoculars. They don’t have to be too expensive, you can get a fairly nice pair for around $60 (though they can go up to the thousands!), as pictured below. There are many different brands and magnifications of binoculars, and the experts suggest getting 7-power or 8-power binoculars—they’re a nice mix of magnification while still allowing you a wide enough view so your bird doesn’t go out of range too quickly. DealDash often has binoculars up for auction.

For identification, you can get a field guide for your local area. Another idea is to bring a small waterproof camera with you so you can document the bird and look it up online when you get back home. DealDash often has small waterproof digital cameras up for auction such as the Coleman one shown below.

DealDash Teaches: Building a Sandcastle

Summer is in full swing here with temperatures in the mid-80s. I think it’s time to build a sandcastle.

Building a sandcastle is one of the most fun things about going to the beach, especially if you live somewhere that the water never truly warms up. I grew up in North Carolina very close to the beach, so I have spent my entire life making sandcastles. The weather in southern coastal North Carolina is very mild, and my family would go to the beach regularly from April until November. My kids don’t have it as lucky, Massachusetts may be coastal, but the beach season is significantly shorter.

Since I have been trying to teach the kids how to build a proper sandcastle I thought that I would write-up a quick instructional article. So if you want your sandcastle to go from looking like this:

to looking like this:

read on…

Most people are ill-prepared when they attempt their sandcastle, bringing maybe a bucket and a trowel. You don’t need many supplies, but you do need a few more than that. You need the aforementioned bucket and trowel, but you should also have something to tap the air out of the sand such as a bigger shovel or a largish flat rock, another bucket with the bottom cut off so it’s more of a large plastic tube than a bucket, a spoon, a plastic cup (like a red solo cup), and a paint stirrer.

The first thing that you will want to do is a little planning. Map out on the sand where your castle is going to be by drawing lines on the sand with your paint stirrer. Don’t bite off more than you can chew by making it too huge. Start on the smaller side until you get a little more confident in your building skills.

After you have mapped out the footprint of your castle then begin heaping sand into the outline of your castle from outside of the lines. Then with the back of your larger shovel pack the sides of the sand mound to form your castle walls. Make them higher than the center of the mound, creating a bowl shape to hold water. Keep packing until you get the height you want.

After you are done packing the sand use your bucket to fill up the bowl shape with water. Place a large bucket with bottom cut off on the mound. Fill three-quarters up with sand. Pour in water, climb in, and stomp. Tap sides with your shovel or flat rock to remove air. Repeat until bucket is full, then lift it off.

You can now use your paint stirrer to carve out walls, ledges, and doorways. You can use your plastic cup to add additional turrets to your castle, and use the spoon to dig out windows.

You’re done! If you would like to add any additional details such as shell decorations or cutting in brick designs with the paint stirrer now is the time. When you’re done be sure to take a picture of your sandcastle because like time, sandcastles are fleeting.

If you’re in need of a shovel or trowel DealDash has you covered. Just click on this link here and it will take you to a selection of shovels. DealDash also has waterproof cameras that are perfect for taking to the beach. Just click here and you can peruse your options. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!

Bird Watching With DealDash

Bird watching can be a fun and relaxing hobby. Read on to get some information about how to get started.

Developing a new hobby often costs a bit to get started, and bird watching is no exception. Unless the only birds you are interested in looking at are ducks, pigeons, and chickens, then I suggest that you get yourself a pair of binoculars.  There are many different brands and magnifications of binoculars with varying prices. The experts suggest getting 7-power or 8-power binoculars—they’re a nice mix of magnification while still allowing you a wide enough view that your bird won’t be constantly hopping out of your image. DealDash often has binoculars up for auction. Check out the link here and you can set an alert by clicking “Alert Me”, and DealDash will email you when they are available.

Bushnell Falcon 10 x 50mm Binocular

The next item that you will be extremely helpful for you to get is a field guide. That way when you see a new and interesting bird you can easily look it up while you are out in the field. I find it much easier to thumb through a book on the go rather than to try to look it up with my smart phone. Really, once you pull the smart phone out to look up a bird you are probably going to check your email, your Facebook, and DealDash and miss the next bird flying by. You can get different field guides depending on where you are located, there are books that cover the Eastern United States, Western United States, and some that cover the whole country.

If the thought of lugging along a book doesn’t appeal to you, you could always bring a small waterproof camera with you so you can document the bird on the go. Then later when you’re at home you can look it up online. This is a nice compromise between being tempted by your smart phone and having to carry a book with you. DealDash often has small waterproof digital cameras up for auction. Just click this link right here and it will take you to the upcoming camera auctions.
