MORE DealDash Budget Tips for Frugal Road Trips

DealDash

School will be out in a few weeks, and it’s a great time to plan a road trip. Here are some tips from DealDash to stay on budget and have fun.

Everyone needs a break once and awhile, and with summer coming up it is the perfect time to take a trip. Instead of taking the average train or airplane, you should stick to your family car. A road trip will allow you to create a trip of a lifetime. You would also see the country and the beautiful scenery at a slower pace.  Going on a road trip does not have to be expensive. Here are some tips to help you budget for a road trip, from your friends at DealDash.

Plan Your Route

Planning your route is the first step to take when budgeting for a road trip. You need to be aware of which roads you are going to be taking, rest stops, and how many days it would take. Once you are aware of the time, you can start budgeting for gas, food, and for where you will be staying.  You can use different trip planning websites such as AAA Trip Tik or Yahoo Trip Planner. You can also try googling a few things that you definitely want to see on your trip, and then make a route based off of that. It’s up to you when you take a road trip.

How Much Should You Budget for Gas?

You cannot leave gas out of your budget when you are planning a road trip. It is best to use a fuel calculator such as the AAA Fuel Calculator. There are some steps that you can take to save money on gas such as packing lightly which will save you mileage, have your tires properly inflated and download a smartphone app to find the cheapest gas. Another suggestion is to get gas at your local wholesale store if it has a gas station attached. My local wholesale store typically has gas that is .10-.20 per gallon than the surrounding stations. That might not sound like much, but it definitely adds up when you are getting $40 of gas!

Budget Your Food

Besides gas in the car, having a lot of food on a road trip is very important. You should pack filling foods such as healthy snacks like granola bars, crackers, and peanuts. Avoid buying food that is messy and will spoil.  Don’t buy snacks at a local gas station. You will stay on your road trip budget if you pack your drinks and snacks ahead of time. You also don’t need to buy the fancy pre-popped popcorn! Just pop a bag of popcorn yourself before you leave home and distribute it into brown lunch bags for everyone. It’s fun, low calorie, and not messy as long as you don’t get the “movie theater butter” version.

DealDash: What to Look for in a New Car

DealDash

Shopping for a new car can be daunting if you don’t know what you’re looking for. Here are some tips from DealDash to figure out what to look for while shopping.

Are you in the market for a new car? If you need a new car but you aren’t exactly sure what you want it can be very overwhelming. It’s important to know what you’re looking for before you set foot in the car showroom because otherwise, you might end up buying something that you aren’t completely happy with. Here are some tips from DealDash to help you figure out what you are looking for in your new car.

What Type?

Long ago are the days when you only had the option of “car” or “truck”. Nowadays you have the option of car, truck, crossover, SUV, van, and many other types and styles of vehicles. If you’re not sure what you want, then you should eliminate what you know that you don’t want, first. For example, I have a family of 5, and often drive around an extra kid here and there, so small cars and pickup trucks are definitely out. I am not a big fan of vans, so I am left with crossovers and SUVs. If you can whittle down the list of what type to just a choice or two it will be much easier when you go into the showroom.

What Options?

After you have decided what type of vehicle that you’re looking for then you can decide what options that you are interested in. Some options might include choosing cloth or leather, analog or digital dash display, navigation, and if you want a sunroof or not. You should write down all of the options that you definitely want, so you can remember what to tell the salesperson when they ask.

Price Range?

You will also have to decide what price range that you are willing to pay for your new car. Depending on what options that you want, your car can vary in price a lot, even up to a $15,000 difference! For example, a base model of car might cost $25,000 but the same car fully-loaded is around $38,000. It all depends on what you’re looking for.

What Color?

Finally, after you have decided all of the other items on the list, you can choose what color that you would like your car to be. Many models of cars let you choose not only the outside color but also the color of the upholstery inside as well. This might sound unimportant to some people, but you will be spending a lot of time in this car, so it’s important that you like everything about it!

Thanks for Reading

Choosing a new car can be a lot of work, but it can be a lot of fun as well! Pay attention to the tips in this article, and you will be better prepared for when you walk into the showroom.

If cleaning out snack pouches doesn’t appeal to you, try snack containers with flip top lids. These are great for dry snacks such as crackers and baby puff snacks. Check on the bottom before you buy one to make sure that it’s dishwasher safe.

Protect Baby from the Sun

A sunshade is another smart investment when you are looking to get car accessories for babies. Sunshades will keep the sun out of your baby’s eyes while traveling so they will not get cranky while you are traveling. Sun shades can attach to the window of your car while some can attach directly to your baby’s car seat. Backseat Organizer

A backseat organizer is also something you should consider purchasing if you are looking for helpful car accessories for babies. A backseat organizer will keep all of the little things that you need for traveling with your baby organized so you can access it easily. Most backseat organizers will fit nicely on the back of your seat so everything is easily accessible. DealDash Tips for Washing Your Car

DealDash

With all of the salt, ice, and snow that has stuck itself to your car, it’s time to wash it. Here are some tips from DealDash to get you started.

Cars are a very important part of people’s lives. Without cars, we would have a hard time getting to work, school, or run errands. It is important to take care of your car, and part of taking care of your car is to keep it clean. Washing your car periodically can keep it looking nice and fresh. Here are some tips to wash your car, from DealDash.

Park Your Car

The first step is to make sure that your car is out of the sun. You should try to find a shaded area to wash your car.  If your car is already hot from the sun, make sure it has time to cool down. Heat can dry your car faster and you want to be able to let the water and the soap sink in. Of course, as long as you live somewhere cold this isn’t really an issue in the winter. However, if you’re somewhere warm like California, Texas, or Florida, then please heed this suggestion.

Washing Supplies

The most important step of washing your car is to gather your supplies. You will need a glass cleaner, bucket, sponge, and towels. You should keep the materials near your car so you can easily access them. It is important to also get car wax and keep that next to your car. Then you should fill the bucket with water and soap. When you are prepared with all of your supplies it will make washing your car much easier.

Wash Your Car

After you have all of your materials you should begin to wash your car. First, clean the inside. Vacuum, wash the windows and dust the dashboard.

Next, rinse your car with plain water before using soap. Make sure to remove any dirt that you see to avoid scratches to your car. Then lather some soap and scrub your car in an up and down type of motion. Be sure to avoid washing your car in a circular motion because doing that can leave marks. Make sure you rinse your sponge periodically. Also, change out your bucket of water when it starts looking too murky.

After you have scrubbed your car clean, it’s time to rinse. Be sure to remove all of the soap, because that can leave streaks or even damage your paint.

Thanks for Reading

Washing your car can be a lot of fun. It is important to not let your car air dry because it can cause streaking and watermarks. Use a soft towel to blot your car so you won’t leave marks. If you follow these tips you will have the cleanest car on the block.

I hope that this article has given you some good tips to get your car clean. Thanks for reading the newest blog article. DealDash’s Safety Tips for Teen Drivers

DealDash

Have a teen who is driving or will be soon? Read these safety tips from DealDash.

As a teen approaches their 16th (or 17th, depending on your state) birthday their parents must get ready to prepare another driver for the open road. It can be a scary thought having your child operating a motor vehicle so you need to make sure that they are fully prepared for the privilege of driving a car. Here are three safety tips that will assist in making sure that your child is a safe driver. Read on for more information from DealDash.

No Drunk Driving, Please

You want your child to definitely say no to operating a  motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol. Not only can this result in a deadly car accident it can also result in fines, and jail or prison time. Newly licensed teen drivers are at a big enough risk when they are on the road due to inexperience they do not need to add to the risk but driving under the influence.

Please make a pact (print it up and sign it) saying that you will pick them up anywhere and anytime that they call as long as they do not drive drunk or get into a car with an impaired driver. Also, include that they will not face any punishment if they call you for help. Make sure to periodically check in with them that they remember your agreement.

Keep the Distractions to a Minimum

Distractions such as technology, loud music, or too many people in the car is also something that should be discussed with your teen. Make sure that they keep their focus on  road. Tell them that it will be a while before they can drive with a car full of friends. Also, have them keep their cell phone away in a pocket or purse where it won’t encourage them to use it while the are out driving. Keeping as many distractions as you can away from your teen driver is going to help you keep them safe. In some states, teens are only permitted to drive with adults or one other teen in the car when they first receive their license. Check out the laws in your state for more information.

Seat Belts. Every.Single.Time.

It cannot be stressed enough how important it is for your teen to wear their seat belt while driving a car. Over half of the teens that were killed in car crashes were not wearing their seat belts. You need to keep telling your teen driver how important driving with a seat belt on is so that putting it on will become a habit. Honestly, this good habit begins in childhood. Be sure that you are wearing your seat belt at all times.

My personal rule is that the car stays in “Park” until everyone’s (including the adults) seat belts are fastened. I was so proud of my daughter the other day – we were at the YMCA, it was raining, and we had parked in the back of the parking lot. Before we got out I saw a spot open up by the door, so I started to move the car. My daughter said “MAMA! You need to put your seat belt on before the car moves!” And so I did. That’s one girl that will always put on her seat belt, thankfully.

Thanks For Reading

Having a teenage driver can be a scary prospect. However, if you take the time to prepare them for this privilege you  will have a much simpler time in keeping them safe while they are on the open road.
