MORE DealDash Budget Tips for Frugal Road Trips

DealDash

School will be out in a few weeks, and it’s a great time to plan a road trip. Here are some tips from DealDash to stay on budget and have fun.

Everyone needs a break once and awhile, and with summer coming up it is the perfect time to take a trip. Instead of taking the average train or airplane, you should stick to your family car. A road trip will allow you to create a trip of a lifetime. You would also see the country and the beautiful scenery at a slower pace.  Going on a road trip does not have to be expensive. Here are some tips to help you budget for a road trip, from your friends at DealDash.

Plan Your Route

Planning your route is the first step to take when budgeting for a road trip. You need to be aware of which roads you are going to be taking, rest stops, and how many days it would take. Once you are aware of the time, you can start budgeting for gas, food, and for where you will be staying.  You can use different trip planning websites such as AAA Trip Tik or Yahoo Trip Planner. You can also try googling a few things that you definitely want to see on your trip, and then make a route based off of that. It’s up to you when you take a road trip.

How Much Should You Budget for Gas?

You cannot leave gas out of your budget when you are planning a road trip. It is best to use a fuel calculator such as the AAA Fuel Calculator. There are some steps that you can take to save money on gas such as packing lightly which will save you mileage, have your tires properly inflated and download a smartphone app to find the cheapest gas. Another suggestion is to get gas at your local wholesale store if it has a gas station attached. My local wholesale store typically has gas that is .10-.20 per gallon than the surrounding stations. That might not sound like much, but it definitely adds up when you are getting $40 of gas!

Budget Your Food

Besides gas in the car, having a lot of food on a road trip is very important. You should pack filling foods such as healthy snacks like granola bars, crackers, and peanuts. Avoid buying food that is messy and will spoil.  Don’t buy snacks at a local gas station. You will stay on your road trip budget if you pack your drinks and snacks ahead of time. You also don’t need to buy the fancy pre-popped popcorn! Just pop a bag of popcorn yourself before you leave home and distribute it into brown lunch bags for everyone. It’s fun, low calorie, and not messy as long as you don’t get the “movie theater butter” version.

DealDash: What to Look for in a New Car

DealDash

Shopping for a new car can be daunting if you don’t know what you’re looking for. Here are some tips from DealDash to figure out what to look for while shopping.

Are you in the market for a new car? If you need a new car but you aren’t exactly sure what you want it can be very overwhelming. It’s important to know what you’re looking for before you set foot in the car showroom because otherwise, you might end up buying something that you aren’t completely happy with. Here are some tips from DealDash to help you figure out what you are looking for in your new car.

What Type?

Long ago are the days when you only had the option of “car” or “truck”. Nowadays you have the option of car, truck, crossover, SUV, van, and many other types and styles of vehicles. If you’re not sure what you want, then you should eliminate what you know that you don’t want, first. For example, I have a family of 5, and often drive around an extra kid here and there, so small cars and pickup trucks are definitely out. I am not a big fan of vans, so I am left with crossovers and SUVs. If you can whittle down the list of what type to just a choice or two it will be much easier when you go into the showroom.

What Options?

After you have decided what type of vehicle that you’re looking for then you can decide what options that you are interested in. Some options might include choosing cloth or leather, analog or digital dash display, navigation, and if you want a sunroof or not. You should write down all of the options that you definitely want, so you can remember what to tell the salesperson when they ask.

Price Range?

You will also have to decide what price range that you are willing to pay for your new car. Depending on what options that you want, your car can vary in price a lot, even up to a $15,000 difference! For example, a base model of car might cost $25,000 but the same car fully-loaded is around $38,000. It all depends on what you’re looking for.

What Color?

Finally, after you have decided all of the other items on the list, you can choose what color that you would like your car to be. Many models of cars let you choose not only the outside color but also the color of the upholstery inside as well. This might sound unimportant to some people, but you will be spending a lot of time in this car, so it’s important that you like everything about it!

Thanks for Reading

Choosing a new car can be a lot of work, but it can be a lot of fun as well! Pay attention to the tips in this article, and you will be better prepared for when you walk into the showroom.

DealDash Tips for Washing Your Car

DealDash

With all of the salt, ice, and snow that has stuck itself to your car, it’s time to wash it. Here are some tips from DealDash to get you started.

Cars are a very important part of people’s lives. Without cars, we would have a hard time getting to work, school, or run errands. It is important to take care of your car, and part of taking care of your car is to keep it clean. Washing your car periodically can keep it looking nice and fresh. Here are some tips to wash your car, from DealDash.

Park Your Car

The first step is to make sure that your car is out of the sun. You should try to find a shaded area to wash your car.  If your car is already hot from the sun, make sure it has time to cool down. Heat can dry your car faster and you want to be able to let the water and the soap sink in. Of course, as long as you live somewhere cold this isn’t really an issue in the winter. However, if you’re somewhere warm like California, Texas, or Florida, then please heed this suggestion.

Washing Supplies

The most important step of washing your car is to gather your supplies. You will need a glass cleaner, bucket, sponge, and towels. You should keep the materials near your car so you can easily access them. It is important to also get car wax and keep that next to your car. Then you should fill the bucket with water and soap. When you are prepared with all of your supplies it will make washing your car much easier.

Wash Your Car

After you have all of your materials you should begin to wash your car. First, clean the inside. Vacuum, wash the windows and dust the dashboard.

Next, rinse your car with plain water before using soap. Make sure to remove any dirt that you see to avoid scratches to your car. Then lather some soap and scrub your car in an up and down type of motion. Be sure to avoid washing your car in a circular motion because doing that can leave marks. Make sure you rinse your sponge periodically. Also, change out your bucket of water when it starts looking too murky.

After you have scrubbed your car clean, it’s time to rinse. Be sure to remove all of the soap, because that can leave streaks or even damage your paint.

Thanks for Reading

Washing your car can be a lot of fun. It is important to not let your car air dry because it can cause streaking and watermarks. Use a soft towel to blot your car so you won’t leave marks. If you follow these tips you will have the cleanest car on the block.

I hope that this article has given you some good tips to get your car clean. Thanks for reading the newest blog article. DealDash’s Safety Tips for Teen Drivers

DealDash

Have a teen who is driving or will be soon? Read these safety tips from DealDash.

As a teen approaches their 16th (or 17th, depending on your state) birthday their parents must get ready to prepare another driver for the open road. It can be a scary thought having your child operating a motor vehicle so you need to make sure that they are fully prepared for the privilege of driving a car. Here are three safety tips that will assist in making sure that your child is a safe driver. Read on for more information from DealDash.

No Drunk Driving, Please

You want your child to definitely say no to operating a  motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol. Not only can this result in a deadly car accident it can also result in fines, and jail or prison time. Newly licensed teen drivers are at a big enough risk when they are on the road due to inexperience they do not need to add to the risk but driving under the influence.

Please make a pact (print it up and sign it) saying that you will pick them up anywhere and anytime that they call as long as they do not drive drunk or get into a car with an impaired driver. Also, include that they will not face any punishment if they call you for help. Make sure to periodically check in with them that they remember your agreement.

Keep the Distractions to a Minimum

Distractions such as technology, loud music, or too many people in the car is also something that should be discussed with your teen. Make sure that they keep their focus on  road. Tell them that it will be a while before they can drive with a car full of friends. Also, have them keep their cell phone away in a pocket or purse where it won’t encourage them to use it while the are out driving. Keeping as many distractions as you can away from your teen driver is going to help you keep them safe. In some states, teens are only permitted to drive with adults or one other teen in the car when they first receive their license. Check out the laws in your state for more information.

Seat Belts. Every.Single.Time.

It cannot be stressed enough how important it is for your teen to wear their seat belt while driving a car. Over half of the teens that were killed in car crashes were not wearing their seat belts. You need to keep telling your teen driver how important driving with a seat belt on is so that putting it on will become a habit. Honestly, this good habit begins in childhood. Be sure that you are wearing your seat belt at all times.

My personal rule is that the car stays in “Park” until everyone’s (including the adults) seat belts are fastened. I was so proud of my daughter the other day – we were at the YMCA, it was raining, and we had parked in the back of the parking lot. Before we got out I saw a spot open up by the door, so I started to move the car. My daughter said “MAMA! You need to put your seat belt on before the car moves!” And so I did. That’s one girl that will always put on her seat belt, thankfully.

Thanks For Reading

Having a teenage driver can be a scary prospect. However, if you take the time to prepare them for this privilege you  will have a much simpler time in keeping them safe while they are on the open road.

Finally, thanks a lot for reading the newest DealDash article on teen drivers. Come back to DealDash Reviewed every day for new articles on this blog as well as on our sister blog, DealDash Tips. If you have any requests for specific articles, please write a comment down below.

Removing Stubborn Car Odors the DealDash Way

DealDash

Did you or one of the kids spill something in your car? Have you had trouble removing the odor? No problem, DealDash has some tips.

Let me tell you all a sad story. Last year, in August, I bought a brand new car. It was one of the re-designed Honda Pilots. It had a wonderful new car smell, and I was very happy with it. About a week later I did a little grocery shopping, including a rotisserie chicken. Well, at some point on the ride home, that rotisserie chicken fell onto its side, and all of the greasy juicy insides went all over my brand new carpets in the new car. I was so upset.

About a week later I did a little grocery shopping, including a rotisserie chicken. Well, at some point on the ride home, that rotisserie chicken fell onto its side, and all of the greasy juicy insides went all over my brand new carpets in the new car. I was so upset.

When I got home, of course I tried to scrub out the grease, but it left a lingering smell. And since it was August, the smell got worse by the day. Here is where my newfound knowledge of how to clean the odors out of a car will come in handy for you. Read on for some ideas.

Pat It Dry

If you have had a spill in the car, it’s important to get the liquid up right away. Immediately after a spill, clean up any excess liquid that you can see. This quick step will make it easier to clean later on. Use paper towels, napkins, or a sponge and press it against any fabric where the liquid has spilled. Keep patting until it seems relatively dry to you.

Wash Your Mats

If any of the liquid has spilled onto your floor mats, no problem. If yours are completely cloth they can just go right into the washing machine. However, most of them have a rubber backing, so for those, it’s best to hose them off. If you’d like to put a very small amount of Dawn dish detergent on them with a sponge and then hose them off, that would work fine. After that, hang them outside to dry, or leave them flat to dry.

Absorb the Odor

After you have washed the areas off the best you can, it’s time to put something in your car to absorb the odor. You can sprinkle baking soda on your carpets or cloth seats. Leave it there for a few days, and then vacuum it up. That should make your car smell a lot cleaner and fresher.

Thanks for Reading

Finally, thanks so much for reading this new DealDash article on car odor removal. Car odors are terrible, be sure to follow these tips and tricks to get rid of your problem.

DealDash Talks: Baby Car Accessories

screenshot-1

Everyone knows that babies require a lot of accessories. Today DealDash is discussing car accessories for the baby.

A car seat for the baby is the most important thing that you need for the baby, of course, but there are many other useful accessories that you can get to make riding with the baby a lot more comfortable. Here are a few examples of things that DealDash suggests you get for your baby to accessorize the car.

If you have leather car seats you will definitely want to get car seat protectors. Baby and child car seats are very rough on your car’s upholstery, so getting these car seat protectors is very important to keep the value of your car for when you decide to trade it in. These car seat protectors are an invaluable asset to protect your investment. Think about it like this – you wouldn’t buy a car without floor mats, correct? Well, don’t put in a baby seat without seat protectors!

Another accessory that you need for your car is a baby mirror. These mirrors are extremely helpful to be able to see what your baby is doing when they are in a rear-facing car seat. I can’t tell you how many times that I pulled to the side of the road to see what my baby was doing before I bought the baby mirror for the back seat.

When your child is a bit older and you put the baby seat forward-facing, you will want to get a toy and snack organizer. The organizer slips onto the back of the driver’s or passenger’s seat, and has many pockets to put toys, snacks, drinks, and some of them are even designed to hold an iPad or Android tablet for watching videos in the car. What a great invention! The toy and snack organizer should be within reach of your child, and they can get things for themselves while you are driving.

I hope that you found this DealDash Reviews article on baby car accessories helpful. DealDash has many baby and child products up for auction. Visit DealDash to check out the baby items. Click this link right here to go to DealDash. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!

Entertain Us on a Trip, DealDash

Taking a car trip can be fun for the whole family, but sometimes it can be hard to keep everyone entertained. Here are a few tips to keep everyone busy.

The first thing that you need to keep in mind when you are planning your trip is how long you are planning on being in the car, what stops that you are going to make, and if it’s likely that the passengers will have to be entertained the whole trip or if there will be some napping along the way.

If you are going on a long car trip with the family I am going to assume that you will have at least 1 or more kids in the car. With that said, it all depends on the age of the child/ren exactly how much entertaining that you will have to do and how much of the entertaining that they will be able to handle for themselves.

One of my favorite things to do before a trip is to make a playlist for the trip of songs that my family likes to sing along with. My kids (especially my daughter) love music, and will sing along to the latest Katy Perry and Taylor Swift songs like any little kid, but she also takes pride in the fact that she can sing along with songs that I grew up enjoying in the 90s! The playlists that I make I put on my iPod, which is such a time-saver. If you need to replace your iPod I would suggest checking out DealDash. Just click here and you will be taken to a page with the iPods that will be available to bid on or set an alert on. Just click the blue “Alert me” button and DealDash will send you a quick email when your item will be coming up for bid.

Another thing that my family finds very entertaining on road trips is snacks! There’s nothing like a chorus of children (and one husband) all whining “I’m hungry, I’m starving, feeeeeeed meeeee!” So I always make sure that I pack enough snacks for everyone to enjoy. In the case of the children I like to get the little snack sized bags and pack them each a bag of goldfish, pretzels, raisins, and fruit snacks. If I don’t pack them the exact same things it starts a big pout-fest, so I am sure to make things even.

The last thing that I always pack for our road trips is a neck pillow and blanket for everyone. I love to sleep on long trips if the kids are quiet, and I have a much higher chance of being able to nap myself if the kids are able to get comfy in the car. A word of caution, though, don’t give any kids under the age of 3 a neck pillow, please. It’s unlikely anything bad would happen, but it’s better to be safe than sorry.

I hope that this article gave you some ideas on how to entertain your family on a trip. Be sure to visit DealDash and check out the iPads, ipods, portable DVD players, and more in the Electronics and Computers category, located here. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!

Tips on Jump Starting Your Car or Truck

For a number of us, the possibility of having to jump start our automobile can be intimidating. While the process is simple, if it is done improperly it can be dangerous. This holds true, especially when you are using a car to car jump. I suggest before you read this any further, you go to DealDash and pick up an automatic jump starter that you can place in the trunk of your car.

car

After making sure that you or your friendly helper (person who is helping you jump start your car), has the right cables to make the jump complete. As long as you connect them correctly, you won’t have a problem. Below is the right procedures on the best ways to hop begin your vehicle safely. DealDash never wants to see you hurt yourself:

  1. Figure out the area of your battery, or where it’s located. Pop the hood as well as check which side your battery lies. If you are uncertain where it is, consult your owner’s handbook. It is additionally crucial to determine the location of the battery in the vehicle supplying the jump to place it correctly close to your own. You may have to remove a bolt or two to access the battery, I suggest making sure you have some tools from DealDash handy in your car or truck.
  2. Position the auto for supplying the jump correctly. Absolutely nothing is much more aggravating than having the automobile that you are obtaining a leap from in the wrong location where you can’t reach it. You need to park the car close sufficient where the jumper wires will certainly get to both vehicles’ batteries easily. Open up the hoods on both of your autos and also safeguard them so they will certainly not shut. Make certain that the vehicle giving the leap is shut off.
  3. Connect the cables. Clamp one end of the jumper cables into the battery of the vehicle giving the jump. The wires are color-coded – red for positive and also black for negative. Attach the red clamp to the red article on the battery first after that connect the black clamp to the black article of the battery. While doing so, ensure that the metal clamps on the other end do not can be found in contact with each other. If they do, it could develop a harmful electrical trigger. Does this sound like a lot of work? Now you see why I suggest picking up a jumper box from DealDash.
  4. Connect the jumpers to your vehicle’s battery. Once again, make certain that the clamps do not touch each other. Link the red clamp to the red post on your battery. Attach the black clamp to either the metal of your car or to the black terminal on your battery. By linking the black clamp to your engine rather than the battery blog post, it can minimize the chance of a spark.
  5. Start the engine of the automobile giving the leap. Run the automobile for 5 to 10 mins to bill the dead battery, after that shut off the engine.
  6. Start the car or truck. Transform your key in your ignition to see if your car will certainly start. If it does, adhere to the following steps.
  7. Clamp extraction. Get rid of the black clamp from the car offering the leap and afterwards the red clamp. Once again, do not enable any sort of clamps to touch. Get rid of the clamps from your automobile in the same order, black adhered to by red. If you have a box from DealDash, you can just switch it off and then you’re good to go.

car

It is very important to take your automobile to your specialist after jump starting to determine if you have to replace your battery, booster cable or contacts. It is likewise advised that they do a full checkup of your automobile’s electrical systems making certain there are none other aspects that brought about your battery’s in-operation. But first, head on into DealDash and see what you can find for your car or truck.
