DealDash Internet Safety Tips for Kids

DealDash

If you’re a parent or grandparent, your children’s safety is your number one priority. Keeping kids safe online is just as important as keeping them safe physically. Here are some tips from DealDash to help you help your kids.

With technology becoming more prevalent, you as a parent will find that your child might be spending more time on the internet. This is for school as well as during free time. But how do you know that your kids are safe when they are online? Here are a few tips that can help keep your kids safe, from DealDash.

Make Clear Rules and Guidelines

You should come up with a list of rules for using the internet. You will want to stress the importance of not giving out any personal information. This is especially true for people that they do not know. It is important that you enforce the rules that you set for using the internet. Your kids need to know how important internet safety happens to be.

You might even want to make a rule of what websites your kids are allowed to go on. Then you will know that they are going on websites that are safe for them to go on. Additionally, if you don’t set a rule as to what websites they can go on, make it clear you will be checking the computer history. This should hopefully make your child more aware of what they are doing online. You might even want to make a point of taking a quick look through the browser history every time your child is done using the computer.

Use the Computer With Them

If you have younger children you will want to use the computer with them while they are on the internet. Not only would you be helping to keep them safe you can use internet time as bonding time. You can help with homework or play some online games with them. You can also reinforce safety on the internet as issues come up.

There are many fun and free websites for educational kid’s games. These games can easily be found by searching “free educational games for age _____” and inputting your child’s age or grade level. My daughter, who is 6, spent some time on these websites during summer vacation. She learned many things, such as how to read an analog clock.

Get a New Computer from DealDash With New Safety Features

If you have an older computer it might not have all of the newest internet safety features installed. If you are thinking about getting a computer for your family that kids will be using, think about getting a new desktop or laptop from DealDash. DealDash Kids: Pack a Nutritious and Delicious Lunch

DealDash

Packing your kids a great school lunch is very important. It is the energy they need to finish out the school day. Here are some tips from DealDash to help you get started.

Packing a great school lunch for your child can be a daunting task. You need to make sure to pack something your child is actually going to eat. Here are some tips to keep in mind when Packing a lunch for your kids, from DealDash.

Pack the Correct Amount of Food

You need to make sure to pack the right amount of food for your child. All the while making sure that it is healthy for them. You need to make the food fun, especially if you are packing a lunch for a younger child. Create funny faces on a sandwich or think of some creative way to display their food. You will see that they will be much more apt to eat whatever you have packed for them. Personally, I like to use cookie cutters to cut out sandwiches for my daughter. They also have pre-made sandwich cutters as well, but cookie cutters work just as well.

Save Money on Healthy Lunches

Packing a great lunch does not need to be expensive. If you plan correctly you can pack a healthy meal for your kids without having to spend a great deal of money. For example, if your child is a fan of last night’s dinner think about how you can attractively pack leftovers for them. Also, stock up when you are able on your child’s favorite foods that you can include in their lunch.

For example, my daughter absolutely loves salad. Today I chopped up 2 heads of lettuce, washed it, and now it’s waiting to be portioned out each day for her lunch. After I add in tomatoes, cucumbers, and a little container of dressing I will spend about .50 per salad. That’s a great bargain compared to how much it would be to purchase a salad from school each day!

Don’t Forget a Note Now and Then

Packing a great school lunch is not always about the food. You can use preparing their lunch as a bonding experience. Leave them encouraging notes or funny pictures, or just about anything that will help you connect with your child while you are apart.

Check DealDash For Kitchen Tools

DealDash Kids: Tips to Make the Most of the School Year

DEALDASH BACK TO SCHOOL

By this time your child should have already started school or will be starting next week. Here are some tips to help them make the most of the school year.

It’s important for kids of all ages to have a great school year. However, sometimes it is very difficult for younger kids to have a great school year. These kids are complete “newbies” at knowing what to expect from school. Here are some tips to help younger kids get settled and more familiar with what they should do to help themselves have a fun and educational school year. Read on for more information from DealDash.

It’s Okay to Not Know Anyone

Remember, a stranger is “just a friend we haven’t met yet.” If this is your child’s first year at school or if they just don’t know anyone in their class this year, then this is an important thing to tell them. If they don’t know anyone in their classroom this year, that just means that they have even more of a chance to meet their new BFF.

Just Be Yourself

Kids as young as 5 will be in classes this year, and surprisingly even kids this age are worried about fitting in. I have 2 school-aged kids and volunteer in their elementary school. Sadly, I have heard many comments from very young kids that they are worried that people won’t like them. They are worried about the clothing that they are wearing and not having as many toys and gadgets as their classmates. It important to help your kids realize that the superficial stuff isn’t going to help your kids make true friends. and that a real friend will like you no matter what brand of shoes that you are wearing.

Don’t Be Afraid to Be Smart

Try to impart to your kids that being smart is a good thing. They might see things on TV or online showing smart kids to be “nerdy” or “uncool”. However, the kids who listen and do well in school get to do their dream jobs when they are older. No matter if they want to be an astronaut, a paleontologist, or a veterinarian, all of these careers require a lot of brains and doing well in school. This all comes back to just being yourself. Tell them to be curious, pay attention, and do well in school to be able to grow up and do their dream job.

DealDash Kids: Toddler and Preschooler Crafts

dealdash

Little kids ages 2-5 like doing crafts just like their parents and bigger siblings. Here are some of the easiest crafts for little kids, from DealDash.

Doing crafts with small kids is a fun and straightforward way for them to be able to express their creativity. While they might not have an exact picture in mind of what they want to create, they have an awful lot of fun with the creative process. Here are some crafts you won’t want to miss that you can do with little kids.

Fun With Yarn Painting

Yarn painting is a super simple and easy craft that you can do with any small children. All you need to do is cut a ball of yarn into reasonably long pieces and get some washable paint, and you are all set. You can paint on anything you would like from poster board to cardboard. The kids will have a great time making all sorts of colorful lines with the yarn. You might want to consider doing this craft outside or in a basement or garage. It can be quite messy.

Salt Dough Sculpting

Sculpting with salt dough is another easy craft you can do with small kids. There are countless recipes for salt dough that you can use. Also, you can even get more creative with the dough and add some food coloring for a little color. The sculptures can be air dried when you are done, and they make great gifts to give to loved ones.

This is an excellent craft to do when we are getting closer to Christmas, as they make excellent tree ornaments. Try using cookie cutters to make shapes in the dough.

Painting with Stickers

Setting little kids loose with stickers and markers can be a simple way for them to have a great time creating something fun. You can tailor the stickers that you get to each child so that they can personalize their artwork. You can give them anything from notebook paper to poster board to work on in order to create their art. If you like, you can draw an outline of a simple picture in markers that they can fill in with stickers, such as a tree or flower.

Crafting with young kids does not have to be complicated. You can get some very simple items and have a great time creating something that everyone will enjoy. With as fast-paced and often harsh as the world can be it is more important than ever to teach your kids to appreciate everything in life. This is no matter how big or small. Teaching your kids to be grateful at a young age is something that they can carry over into adulthood. It can even make them a much happier person. Here are some ways to teach your kids to be grateful, from DealDash.

Show Them

You should teach by action. Show your kids how you have an appreciation for things in your life and how you react. This will often play a part in how your children behave. If you have a terrible reaction to something then more often than not your kids will have the same reaction. So show your kids how great it is to appreciate things and live a less stressful life. This is good not only for them but for you as well.

Let Them Work for Things

Having your kids work for things is another way to help them be grateful for things in life. Have them work and save money for something that they want instead of just giving it to them. They will appreciate it a lot more. This is one thing that would be good to teach a child when they are young, so they do not grow up feeling entitled to everything. This will serve them well in life, it will help with both their personal and professional relationships in the future.

Don’t Forget to Write a Note

Thank you notes are a beautiful thing and a great thing to teach your kids early. When they get a gift or have something sweet done for them, have them send a thank you note expressing their appreciation. The recipient will be touched by the gesture which will make your child feel fantastic for being grateful. It’s really wonderful practice for when they are older.

Thanks for Reading

These are just a few of the things that you can do to teach your children to be grateful. Your kids will reap many benefits from learning this characteristic early on in life including living a less stressful life. What a great gift to give them.

DealDash Kids: Why is Reading Important?

DealDash

With all of the fun video games and electronics, reading can sometimes take a backseat for kid’s attention. Here is why reading is important, from DealDash.

When it comes to useful skills to teach your kids, reading should be at the top of the list. Reading opens up a world of benefits for kids, so it is something that should not be forgotten about. The following are some great reasons why reading is so critical for your kids, even though there are lots of other fun things to do. Read on for more information from DealDash.

Enrich Their Imagination

Reading opens up a world of creativity for kids. They can escape into fantastic new worlds and let their imaginations run wild. This will open up their love of reading and maybe even create stories of their own. It helps them learn there is a vast world out there to explore and reading books and other materials can be a great way to explore it.

Enhance Social SKills

Reading can enhance kids social skills so they should be read to as soon as possible by a parent or older sibling. They will enjoy having stories read to them or reading to others when they are able. Sharing stories is a great way to socialize with other people so it is a skill you should help your kids learn. The more they read, the more stories they will have to share with family and friends.

Reading is FUN!

Reading is good fun, and you don’t have to worry about them reading something they shouldn’t. This is because most all books for kids are labeled for specific age groups. So you can feel confident in knowing your child is having some age-appropriate fun reading a good book.

Language Skills

Reading is also essential as it helps kids develop language skills. Your kids will learn new words by reading which will encourage them to read more and improve their language skills even further.

Thanks for Reading

So as you can see, there are many reasons as to why reading is essential for kids. They should be read to at an early age to help encourage a love of reading so they can enjoy the many benefits.

Also, if you need any books you can get them online at a Barnes and Noble. DealDash has gift cards to Barnes and Noble which is an excellent place to get books for your kids or yourself.

DealDash Kids: Why They Need a Home-Packed Lunch

DealDash

Your kids might ask to buy lunch at school, but sending them with a home-packed lunch is much better. Here are the reasons why, from DealDash.

Now that kids are starting or soon to starting back to school soon you need to start thinking about school lunches. There really are some nice advantages of packing a school lunch for your child including some of the following reasons, from DealDash.

Save (Lots) of Money

Packing your child’s lunch can end up saving you money. School lunches can get to be expensive especially if you have more than one child in school. When you pack your child their own lunch you can take time to plan and get the things that you need. All without things becoming incredibly expensive. You can also make use of coupons and sales to further maximize your savings for school lunch supplies.

For example, I have two kids who go to the same elementary school. Lunch is $2.50 per child, which doesn’t sound like much, but at $5 per day, $25 per week, and $100 per month for two kids, that’s a lot! I can pack them both a sandwich, fruit, crackers, and fruit snacks for about $3 per day for both of them. That’s only $60 per month compared to $100! Not only am I saving $40 per month, it’s more filling and healthy than a school lunch.

Speaking of Healthy…

You can help to ensure that you are feeding your kids a healthy lunch when you pack them their own lunch. You can decide exactly what they are going to eat so you know that they are eating healthy at school. This is also important if your child has any type of food allergies so you can be safe in knowing what they are eating at lunch is safe for them.

My own daughter has a food allergy to a particular food dye. It might be simple to avoid peanuts in a meal, but avoiding certain numbers and colors of food dye is much harder. This is another reason why I pack her a lunch every day.

Let Your Child Have Some Input on Lunch

Packing your child’s lunch can also be a great way to bond with your child as they can be included in the lunch making process. Apple or banana, ham or turkey, fruit snacks or Jello – there are many choices that your child can assist you with when they make their lunch.

Let Them Know You’re Thinking of Them

You can also do fun things like leaving encouraging notes in your child’s lunch. This can be a great pick me up for your child during the school day. This can be especially important for you and your child if you are a very busy family.

Thanks for Reading

There are so many great reasons as to why you should pack a lunch for your child for school. They can really benefit from taking you taking the time to put together fun and healthy lunches for them to enjoy when it is lunch time at school.

DealDash Kids: Stop Summer Learning Loss

DealDash Here we are in the summertime, and a big problem plaguing kids is summer learning loss. Here are some tips from DealDash to stop the loss before it starts!

Summertime is a great time for kids to be able to cut loose away from school. Unfortunately, it can also set back their learning by a month or more. You don’t want to make going back to school more difficult for your child. Here are some simple way to stop learning loss, from DealDash.

Reading is Fun

You need to make reading a top priority. Use any opportunity that you can to get your kids reading. You will find that if you are able to do this you will see your kids will have a much simpler time transitioning back into school when summer is over. My daughter likes to read to other people – me, her baby brother, and even the cats. It’s much more fun to read to someone than read alone.

Homework All Summer (Sorry, Kids)

Coming up with some fun homework for your kids is also something that you should be thinking about doing. You should do some fun science projects, or book reports, or anything that will be fun and a learning experience for your kids. Depending on where you live your child’s teacher might have sent home some work to do over the summer. You can also find some fun and educational activities on your library’s website.

Make it a Learning Experience

Take every chance that you can get to turn something into a learning experience. For example, you can go to the zoo and have your kids do a report on their favorite animal. You could also come up with some fun art projects or take an opportunity to see a history museum. Depending on your library, many offer free passes to kid’s educational places such as the Children’s Museum.

Just Ask!

Simply ask your kids what they would like to do to keep learning alive during the summertime. You will find that they will likely have some pretty cool ideas that will help to keep learning fun for them so that you will not have to worry about them getting behind. Asking your kids for ideas is a great way to keep them involved in their learning. My daughter likes to play games with flashcards and write little stories in a notebook. Your kids probably have a few good ideas as well. Just ask!

Thanks for Reading

So keep these tips in mind when you are looking for ways to stop learning loss in your kids over the summer. Then you will feel so much better in the fall when they return back to school. With all the fun and learning that they can do it would be a wonderful opportunity for them to take advantage of this summer.

DealDash Kids: Still Time for Summer Camp

DealDash

We are deep into summer, but there are new summer camps starting every week. It’s not too late! Here are some reasons why your child might enjoy a week of camp before school starts.

With so much to do over the summer, why should your child consider summer camp? There are actually many great reasons for your child to consider this opportunity including the following reasons, from DealDash.

Learn New Skills

Your child will learn many new skills. You can send them to a theater camp or cooking camp or sport camp – the possibilities are really endless here. Personally, when I was a kid, I went to computer camp. No matter which camp you choose, it will put them into a position to learn something new while having some fun along the way. Many of these specialized camps are only one or two weeks long, so you still have time to at least get a week in of camp before school starts.

Make New Friends

Your child will also have the chance to make new friends. You will give them the chance for meeting kids around their age that have similar interests. They will be able to keep in touch with their new friends after camp through letters and email. Summer camp is a wonderful way to make some lifetime friends. I actually know a married couple in their 30’s who met at summer camp as children! What are the odds?

No More “I’m Borrrrred!” at Home

Another great benefit to summer camp is that they are already being entertained at the camp. You do not have to worry about getting your child in additional activities. Your child won’t be bored at home while you are at work or having them fight with their siblings. You will be able to rest easy knowing that your child is safe and enjoying their time at camp.

Leave it to the Staff

You will also find that the staff at summer camp are extremely good role models. They would definitely be people that you would feel great about your kids looking up to them. So if you are looking to make sure that you kids are supervised by some wonderful people you should have your child consider going to summer camp. If your kids go to the same camp next year there is a good chance that at least a few of the same staff will be working.

Thanks for Reading

These are really just a few of the great reasons that your child should consider summer camp. With all the fun and learning that they can do it would be a wonderful opportunity for them to take advantage of for the summer. Entertaining your kids during the summer is an easy task when you send them to camp!

DealDash: Get Your Kids Involved with Yard Work

DealDash

Everyone needs to help around the house, including kids. Here are some tips and tricks to get your kids involved with the yard work.

With summertime in full swing, you’re likely looking for ways to get your children active with yard work.  There are many different ways you can get kids of all ages active in helping you get the yard work including some of the following, from DealDash.

Gardens are Fun

You can decide to plant a small garden.  Kids love the opportunity to get involved with a garden. You can decide either plant flowers and vegetables are maybe some of both. Your children will have a fun time helping to the yard to help keep your garden in great shape. You could even help them do something fun like plant a fairy garden.

Are They Old Enough to Mow?

If they’re a certain age where they’re responsible enough to handle the lawnmower you should teach them how to mow the lawn.  You will be able to have them take care of this job so you can focus on other aspects of yard work. Personally, I started mowing my parent’s lawn when I was around 11 years old. However, I was a very serious and cautious child, so if your child is more on the silly side, then wait until they are older.

Raking Can Be Fun

You could also consider bringing out rakes so that you can take care of getting rid of lawn clippings. This will make your yard look as good as possible.  Your kids will have fun doing work like this to make sure you make the job fun for them.

Make it Age-Appropriate and Fun

You can also have them do things like sweeping your deck and trimming branches. This, of course, is if they are old enough to take care of doing a job like that. You need to be sure that you are giving them age-appropriate jobs to do. And while the work won’t always be fun you should try and make it as fun as possible for your kids. This will encourage them to want to continue to do the yard work… Or at least not resist it too much!

Thanks for Reading

The yard work will not always be fun. However, it is something that kids should learn to do when they’re at an appropriate age. This way when they are adults they will know how to take care of their own home and lawn.

Thanks so much for reading this DealDash article on getting your kids to participate in yard work. Don’t forget to check back every day for new articles here. Also read our sister blog, DealDash Tips. We love to hear from our readers, just leave a comment down below.

DealDash

If your family is ready to get a cat then you’ll need some tips on selecting the right one. Here are some tips from DealDash to help!

So your family is ready for a pet. You and your family have settled on getting a cat, which is an excellent idea. Here are some things to keep in consideration when you are looking for a cat for your family, from DealDash.

Think About the Age

You need to keep in mind the age of your kids as well as the age of the cat that you are looking to get. Younger kids will need extra help in taking care of the cat while older kids can do a lot more on their own. And remember that while kittens are cute there are a great many older cats in need of a good home as well. Either one can be a good choice but think carefully before you make your decision.

Rules are Important

You need to set some rules down before you even get the cat. If it is to be your child’s cat they need to understand that they will be taking most of the responsibility for the cat. You don’t want to end up getting a new pet for your child and be the only one caring for it. However, if your child is younger then you should make the rules according to their age, such as making sure that kitty has fresh water and playing with them for at least 30 minutes per day.

Get Your Supplies – Try DealDash!

You will also want to get the proper supplies for taking care of your new furry friend. You will want to get food, toys and dishes as well as a place for them to rest. Having the proper supplies for taking care of a cat will making caring for them a lot simpler. If you’re in need of some cat supplies, then check DealDash. You can find automatic litter boxes, bowls, and pet beds. Just click here to check out the pet supplies on DealDash.

Figure Out the Logistics

You will also want to do things like deciding where to put the cat’s litter box. Also, will your child empty it or will you take turns? Having a clear idea of what will happen once you get the cat will help things go a lot more smoothly than if you were just to jump into pet ownership with no plan in place.

Thanks for Reading

So there you go. Getting a cat for your kids is quite a process but you will so happy once your kids meet their new furry friend. Choosing the right cat does not have to be a difficult task. These tips will help you make the right decision so that you and your pet can have a good life together.

DealDash Self-Motivation for Kids and Adults

dealdash

Encouraging self-motivation in your kids is important. This is a valuable life skill that not everyone has. Read on for tips and ideas from DealDash.

Is your child less than excited about doing their homework?  Or perhaps it’s you that has trouble getting started with your work or chores. If you are having trouble with self-motivation then you can easily pass that down to your children. If you find that you or your child is lacking in self-motivation here are some tips that will help encourage the development of motivation.

Stay Positive, Rewards Work

The first thing that you want to do is stay positive and encourage any movement towards self-motivation.  You need to appreciate any effort that your child makes so hopefully you can turn that into even bigger efforts in the future.  And by staying positive you’ll be helping to encourage them.

As for yourself, if you see that you are making progress then there’s nothing wrong with giving yourself a little treat to reward yourself. DealDash has some amazing luxury treats that you’ll want to check out. From candles to jewelry, DealDash is there for you when you want to treat yourself.

Don’t Ignore Failure

You also need to not ignore failures.  Make sure to remind yourself and to teach your kids that it’s OK not to do well at things all the time.  Again this comes around to staying positive so that your child will hopefully adopt a positive attitude of self-motivation for things that they will do in the future. When you or your child has a failure you should acknowledge it and move on. There’s no sense in dwelling on the mistake, look towards the future.

Do Things Your Own Way

Sometimes what seems like a lack of motivation can just be the fear of making a mistake. If you or your child needs a little extra help then try to adopt a learning style that will help with motivation.  For example, if you or your child is a visual learner and like to do things like baking you can help them learn things like volume and measurements. This will be in a fun way that doesn’t seem like a troublesome math lesson.

Build Self-Esteem

While you’re doing all of this you also want to remember to work on your self-esteem. If your child is the one with the trouble, then helping them build their self esteem will go far in making sure that they develop a healthy attitude and self-motivation.  You want to congratulate them on their victories and help them work through on their failures. This will help them to build self -esteem and hopefully been more motivated in the future.

Thanks for Reading

Building self-motivation in yourself or your child can seem like a difficult task. However, it is an important lesson to learn so you want to be there to help teach it to them.

Thanks so much for reading this DealDash article on self-motivation. Don’t forget to check back every day for new articles here. Also read our sister blog, DealDash Tips. We love to hear from our readers, just leave a comment down below.

DealDash Kids: What to Pack for a Trip

DealDash

Taking a trip with kids requires some special attention to packing. Here are some tips and tricks from DealDash to get you going!

Going on trips can be a lot of fun, but it can sometimes be hard to keep your kids occupied on the trip. It is the summertime and people are going to various places. You may be going on a trip with your kids this summer, and you may be wondering what should you bring. It is easy to forget the important things when it comes to going on a trip, so it is good to write down what you need.  Here are some essentials that you need to pack for a trip with kids, from DealDash.

Clothes

You must pack clothes for your kids, of course! Sometimes it is good to go shopping for new clothes when you are planning to go on a trip. Make sure that you pack clothes that are cool so that you won’t get hot. Don’t get anything too fancy or easy to ruin. Colorful clothes are your best bet when you are packing for a trip because white clothes can easily become dirty. Packing clothes for your kids is very important when it comes to going on a trip.

Activities and Fun

No matter if you are going on a road trip or a plane you need things for your kids to do in general. It is best to pack their favorite toys, movies, and games so they can be occupied on the trip. When you have your kids occupied with activities the trip will go much smoother.

It’s also a good idea to buy a few new inexpensive things for your kids to do on your trip. Some suggestions are coloring and activity books, magazines, a magnetic drawing board, and a few blind bags if your kids enjoy those.

If you aren’t familiar with blind bags, they are small plastic bags that have an unknown toy or toys in them. Usually, there is a theme, such as you know you will be getting an animal toy, car toy, small doll, etc. They are really fun, inexpensive, and are fun since they don’t know what they are getting.

Toiletries

Packing toiletries for your kids are important. Make sure that they have plenty of deodorants, toothpaste, body wash, and of course diapers if you have a toddler or infant. Even if you don’t have a small child baby wipes are still a good item to pack. You can use them to wipe up spills and messes, wipe off hands, clean things that fall on a dirty floor, and many other uses. I always keep some with me.

You should keep a separate bag for each kid, so you won’t get their toiletries mixed up. Remember to pack travel size products so that you can have room in your kid’s luggage. A fun idea might be to take the kids to the store and let them pick out their own small bag for toiletries. A makeup bag, or pencil case, or school supply bag can be a great thing to store toiletries in, and typically have fun cartoons or patterns on them.

Thanks for Reading

Packing for a trip with your kids is not a difficult task. These tips will help you pack the right essentials so you can have a memorable and stress-free trip with your children.

DealDash Kids: More Summer Entertainment

DealDash

Schools in my area had their first day of summer vacation yesterday. Now it’s time to entertain the kids for the summer. Here are some ideas from DealDash.

It is officially summer, and school is out. It is time for your kids to kick back and relax and enjoy the warm weather. You may be worried about how to keep your kids occupied this summer. Children are known to be very active, so you have to do activities that will keep them on their toes. Here are some ways to entertain your kids during the summer, from DealDash.

Go to an Amusement Park or Park

Amusement parks are one of the best ways to entertain your kids during the summer. There are so many ones to choose from such as Six Flags, Disney World, or a park in your local area. You can bring your friends kids along for the fun.  Check your hometowns website for the location of all of the parks in your area and go exploring. Also, make sure that you search for coupons as well. These places tend to be quite expensive.

Host a Block Party

A block party is the best thing to do during the summer.  You can play old-fashioned games and have great food. You can play many different games with your kids such as water balloon fights, and three-legged races.  Old fashioned games are the perfect activity to do for your kids at a block party. DOn’t forget the music! battery powered or rechargeable Bluetooth speakers are the best way to play music at your block party. Good news! DealDash has these speakers up for auction. Just click here to check them out.

The Library

You may think that the library is the last place that kids would want to go to during the summer. That is not true. During the summer libraries have fun activities for the kids.  It is also good to encourage your child to read during the summertime. You could also have them watch a movie of the book that they read when they are done reading it. Making the library fun will encourage your kids to read during the summer. If you check your local library’s website they will have a calendar of events that are happening in the summer. Last year there was a wild animal show at my library, it included frogs and a giant snake!

Thanks for Reading

Entertaining your kids during the summer is an easy task. All you have to do is use a little bit of creativity and your kids will have a memorable summer. I hope these tips will help you make a good decision on what your kids should do during the summer.

DealDash Kids: Summer Birthday Party

DealDash

Summer birthday parties can be so much fun. Here are some tips from DealDash to throw a successful summer birthday party.

We all want to throw memorable parties for our kids. Unfortunately, sometimes when money is tight, you may want to try to save more money than usual on your kid’s birthday party. The important thing to realize is that you don’t have to spend a ton of money to make your kid’s birthday party special. All it takes is some well thought out planning and a creative mind. Here are some tips on throwing a kid’s summer birthday party on a budget, from DealDash.

Plan Your Party Ahead of Time

A summer party needs more planning than a winter one since it will most likely include indoor and outdoor ones as well. To avoid spending a lot of money on decorations, game, and food, you should plan a few months ahead. The winter is a great time to buy summer items since they are most likely at a big discount. Shop slowly throughout the colder months, and you will have time to find the discounts on the items that you need.

Send Digital Invitations

A summer party can be tricky since you can’t hand out invitations in school. You don’t want to waste money on stamps to mail them to the parents. Thus, sending digital invitations will help you stay on a budget. You can email invites or create a Facebook event. If you know that you are planning on having a summer birthday party for your child then be sure that you get a list of the parent’s email addresses before school is over. This will assure that your child will be able to invite all of the friends that they want to, even though they don’t see them daily in school.

Food

Choosing the right foods is important for a kid’s birthday party. Luckily, summer party food is extremely easy! Grilling food outside is easy and inexpensive. Grilling some hot dogs and hamburgers will be the perfect lunch or dinner for your summer party. In addition to the grilled food, just get a few bags of chips and some cut up fruit. You can even get a few boxes of popsicles for dessert. Like I said, summer food is very easy and inexpensive to prepare.

Goody Bags for Summer

Throwing your child a summer birthday party is exciting. Don’t forget to put together goody bags. These can have things like temporary tattoos, bubbles, stickers, and maybe even an inexpensive water gun or jump rope. If you want to be really creative, you can put these items in a summer sand bucket instead of a plastic or paper bag. You can write each child’s name on the bucket in Sharpie marker or even paint. Have fun!

Thanks for Reading

Follow these tips as well as coming up with some fun games will make your child’s summer birthday party a success. These tips will help you create fun on a budget for your kid’s birthday party. If you follow these tips, your child will have a fun summer birthday party that they will be excited about!

For example, if your daughter loves horses and needs a new painting in her room it would make sense to try your hand at that. Perhaps your son loves dinosaurs. Maybe you could paint a ceramic dinosaur bank together. There are so many options, just try to figure out what your child is interested in.

Just Ask!

Simply ask your kids what they would like to do for an art project. Who knows, you might have all the supplies that you need right in your house. Your children will be very excited to be asked for their input. Making your kids excited about crafting is a great benefit of doing art with your kids.

What’s Your Budget?

Keep in mind your budget. You need to not simply go shopping and by art supplies. You need to pay attention to sales so you can get the very best deals on the supplies that you need. That way you can pick up your kids’ favorite supplies when they go on sale. Be sure to google “coupon” and the name of the craft store you shop at before you go to get your supplies. There are almost always coupons floating around each week.

Re-Use an Old Idea

If you have simply run out of new ideas put a twist on an old one. If you can make something your kids have done before appear exciting again it would be a great way to keep them interested in doing crafts.

For example, if you and your child have previously drawn a comic book together, why not go back and color it? Or maybe you and your child built a birdhouse. Now is the time to give it a new paint job!

Thanks for Reading

These are just a few things to keep in mind when you want to plan your next art project with your kids. You will be surprised how much having a plan will help you here. So remember ideas like these when you want to do a new project with your kids.

Crafting is fun but supplies can be expensive. Let’s try crafting with string or rope. Read on for more information from DealDash.

If you are looking for some fun and inexpensive crafts to do with your kids this summer consider using rope or string. There are many different crafts you can do with these items including the following, from DealDash.

Make a Rug – Fun and Functional

You can create a fun looking rug that could be used anywhere in the house. You could use rope to do so. Colorful is fun, so you can use a variety of different colors of rope. Alternately, you could use one single color. All you have to do is continue to form the rope into the shape that you are looking to make while hot gluing it together. These rugs are very sturdy and can be used anywhere in the house that you like.

Pencil Holders or Vases

Another thing that you could do with rope or string is to decorate empty cans. You can make anything from pencil holders to a place to plant a flower or some herbs. Again you just have to wrap the rope or string around the can while hot gluing it together. You can make a lot of different looks depending on the type of string or rope that you are using.

Make a Nautical Trash Can

If you are looking to add some interest to the trash cans around your home you can wrap rope around them. This will give them a cool nautical feel. You would follow the same steps as you would doing this with a can.

Macrame is Making a Comeback

Another rather simple craft that you can do with rope and string is called macrame. Macrame is the process of making knots in order to make things like pot holders. You and your children can even make bracelets using thin string. You have a lot of choices with this craft and you can find a lot of patterns on the internet.

DealDash Kid-Friendly Vegetables

DealDash

If you want your kids to eat more veggies it can take a little work. Here are some tips from DealDash to get you started.

Every parent wants thire kids to be healthy, but getting them to do things like eat more vegetables can be a tough task. Here are some tips that will get your kids eating more vegetables so that they will develop much healthier habits, from DealDash.

Let Them Help

You can involve your child in meal planning and preparation. This is a great way to get their input on what vegetables that they like and which ones they may need some encouragement trying. Kids might also find that after helping prepare the veggies they have more of an incentive to try them. Another great reason to get your kids involved with meal planning is that they don’t feel forced to try the vegetables that you want them to eat. My daughter loves to help me prepare veggies by washing them for me. She really feels like part of the team when she assists in preparing the veggies for dinner.

Farmer’s Market Samples

Taking your kids to a farmer’s market is another way to encourage your kids to eat more vegetables. Many times there are samples offered that your kids can try and it again gives them the chance to pick and choose what vegetables that they would like to eat. With all the fun colors of vegetables, it is a really fun way to get your kids excited about eating better.

This is good for you as well because sometimes they have fruits and vegetables that aren’t sold in your regular supermarket. Many times I have been hesitant about purchasing a new fruit or veggie at the supermarket. However, after having a sample at the farmer’s market it makes it an easy decision.

Bring on the Sauces

If your child is still hesitant about eating vegetables you can serve them with some kid-friendly dips or sauces. This a fantastic way to get them to try a vegetable that they might have passed up before. Just be sure that they are not eating more dip or sauce than vegetables.

One of my daughter’s favorites is a veggie dip that is made with two simple ingredients. You just need a packet of ranch dry seasoning and a tub of plain greek yogurt. It’s much healthier than buying a pre-made ranch dressing or onion dip that’s made for chips. Another great dip for veggies is hummus. They even have new varieties of hummus that are chocolate and caramel flavor! These would be great to spread on apples or bananas.

Be a Good Example

Another great way to get kids to eat more vegetables is to lead by example. If they see their parents eating more vegetables they will be more likely to start trying and eating them as well. If you avoid eating vegetables your kids will think that they can as well. Personally, I am not a fan of many different types of vegetables. However, I make sure that I cook at least one veggie side per night at dinner as well as have salads available. One veggie that the entire family can agree on is asparagus!

Thanks for Reading

Getting your kids to eat more vegetables may seem like an impossible task however with a little work you will have them making healthy choices in no time.

DealDash Keeps Kids Organized With Crafts

DealDash

Crafts are fun to do with kids. Let DealDash help keep your kids organized with these tips.

Crafting is a fantastic way to assist kids in exploring their creative side. Unfortunately for many parents, keeping everything organized for your kids to craft can be difficult. Here are some tips for getting and keeping your kids organized when they want to do crafts, from DealDash.

Keep Materials Together

You will need to keep materials together. For instance, if your child likes to craft with paper and pens and such, you will want to find a container to keep all of their materials together. This way they will know exactly where they are and when to put everything once they are done creating. You might want to get containers for each different type of writing utensil such as colored pencils, gel pens, and crayons.

Take it Step-By-Step

Have your kids work step by step with what they are doing with their crafts. Sometimes kids can get messy and that is OK but if you can teach them to work slowly they will have less of a chance to do things like get crafting materials all over the place. When kids work step-by-step it’s much easier to help them clean up as they go.

Have Craft Storage Available

It’s almost impossible to keep things organized if there isn’t enough storage. If you don’t have plenty of storage for craft supplies, why not get some on DealDash? DealDash has lots of awesome storage solutions for crafts and more.

Keep Ideas Organized

Having your child write down ideas for projects can be really helpful in getting them organized. You can have them write down what they want to create and what supplies that they will need and you can get everything together for them.  You could even have them do this for future projects that you may not have all the supplies for so you can organize getting those projects.

Clean Up, Everyone, Everywhere

Making sure that your kids help clean up when they are done crafting. This will help them stay organized as they will learn where to put supplies back where they belong. This is a great way to teach them some responsibility as well as they can be responsible for making sure the supplies that they use are returned to where they are being stored. If you start them young, they will be pros at cleaning up when they are a little older.

Thanks for Reading

Crafting with kids can be chaotic but it doesn’t need to be. If you put together a plan to keep your kids organized you will have a much simpler time with everything when they are crafting.

DealDash Kids: Find the Best High Chair

Fisher-Price Deluxe Space Saver High Chair

A high chair is something that I always advise new parents to purchase. Here are some tips from DealDash to get the best one for your child.

When you feel like your baby is ready to start joining you at the table for meals you need to look into purchasing a high chair for them. So what do you need to look for when you are in the market for a high chair? Read on for these tips from DealDash.

Check for Safety Features

You are going to need to look for a high chair that has proper safety features. Your baby will not always be happy to be sitting in the high chair so you need to know that they are safe while they are sitting in it. So when you are purchasing a high chair you need to make sure that it has a safety belt on it so your baby will be secure. You also need to make sure that it has a stable base so that it doesn’t tip over when your baby is sitting in it.

How Comfy Will Baby Be?

The level of comfort in a high chair is also something that you need to be concerned about. You have to be certain that your child will be comfortable sitting in the high chair so be sure that the high chair comes with a padded cover. Most covers are machine washable so you do not have to worry about the mess.

Is it Easy to Clean?

How easy the chair is to clean in another factor in choosing the right high chair. If possible you will want to look for a chair with removable covers so that clean-up is simple. This way you don’t have to worry about spending a long time cleaning up after your child and you can focus more on getting them clean.

Thanks for Reading

Buying a high chair is a must-have for those with young children. You will have a secure place to feed them and you do not have to worry about feeding them separate from the rest of the family. So keep that in mind when you’re looking for a high chair for your baby.

DealDash Kids: How Kids Can Make Money at Home

DealDash

If your kids need more money than you’re willing to give them for allowance, then it’s time for them to get to work! Here are some ideas from DealDash to get them started.

These days kids don’t want to have a paper route or put up a lemonade stand in order to earn some money. A lot of kids want to be able to earn money from home just like their parents. However, the question is, do we as parents want them working on a computer? Here are some simple ways that kids can earn money from home, from DealDash.

Sell Crafts Online

Do your kids love doing crafts? Do they knit cool scarves or make funky clay pots or even draw cool pictures? They could, then, with your supervision, open an Etsy shop. This would be an excellent way for them to do something that they love while learning about running a business online. All they would need to do is create their art, take pictures of it, list it for sale, and package and send it carefully when an order comes in. There is definitely a learning curve here but it’s a great learning opportunity for kids.

If you have your own Etsy shop you might want to consider letting them sell a few things in your shop before they open their own. This is especially good advice if your children are younger and need more help.

Can They Type?

If you know anyone that might need typing work done and your child is a great typist they can offer to do the typing and formatting of documents for them. The can set a price per 100 or per 1,000 words. If your child is a fast and accurate typist they can make some decent money. There are many “micro job” sites online that let people advertise their skills and have others purchase the jobs. Typing and writing are just a few of the jobs that your kids could do in this area.

Do You Do Direct Sales?

A good deal of direct sales companies are allowing teenagers the chance to sign up with their company to sell their products. This is with parental supervision of course, and it’s even better if the parent is a member of the sales force as well. With the support offered it would give kids who are interested the chance to have their own business working from home. They could sell through parties, person to person and online with a parents help.

Thanks for Reading

If your child is serious about making money from home, you should help them find something that they are really excited about. That excitement should keep them going even if at first making money is slow. And it is also a great way to teach them how to handle money once they start to make some. Consider helping them open up a bank account. They can get an online-only account that doesn’t charge any fees. This will let them keep more of their hard-earned money.

DealDash Kids: Choosing the Optimal Car Seat

DealDash

A car seat is the most important piece of baby equipment that you will need if you will be using a car. Here are some tips to pick the optimal car seat, from DealDash.

Are you are going to have a baby? One of the most important accessories that you will need to get is, of course, a car seat. But how do you pick out the best car seat for your baby?  Here are some of the car seats available that you can select from for the new addition to your family. Read on for more information from DealDash.

Infant Seats for Newborns and Infants

One type of car seat that you’ll run into is a car seat that can only be used by infants. This type of car seat will come with a base that can be detached and will have a higher limit for height and weight.  There will also be slots for the harness that will help you to be able to change the car seat from a rear facing seat to a front facing seat.  You’ll also find that there are handles on the sides of car seat that can be folded when your child is in the car and will make it easier to carry your baby when they’re not in the car. Some people also refer to this type of car seat as a “baby bucket”. This type of seat is very convenient for the new parents.

Convertible Seat

The next type of car seat that you’ll run into is a car seat that is convertible. Aptly named the convertible car seat. You might find that may not be appropriate for some newborns. If you have a newborn that is smaller than the weight limit listed on this seat you will need to buy a seat with a lower weight limit. You may find that the hospital where you deliver you baby rents these.

The convertible car seat can be used as a car seat that faces the rear for most all newborns. In addition, it converts to a front facing car seat once the baby weighs over 20-25 pounds. Of course, you will want to check your particular car seat to see the weight limits. There are notches in this car seat that you should thread the seat belt through to make sure that your child is secure in this type of car seat. This type of seat can last through the baby stage all the way to preschooler. You would be wise to invest in the best convertible car seat that your budget allows because it will be used for many years.

Booster Seats for Preschool and Beyond

Another type of car seat that you’ll run into is a booster seat.  You’ll find the booster seats come in a wide variety of different types.  You’ll find that even some booster seats are built right into some cars and vans.  Booster seats should be used when sure baby gets to a certain size and weight. They are definitely for when your baby gets older, as in preschool age. You will want to check your own state’s laws on the height and weight that is recommended for a booster seat.

Thanks for Reading

Now you have a good idea as far as what types of car seats are out there. DealDash Kids: Choose the Right Stroller

Baby Trend Expedition Jogger Travel System, TropicSince it’s so nice outside now you might consider getting a stroller so you can take your baby or toddler out. Here are some tips and suggestions from DealDash to choose the right one.

When you are a new parent one thing that you will be wanting to purchase is a stroller, and as your baby grows you might need to replace it with a different type. But how do you know which is the best stroller for your baby or toddler? Here are a few tips to helping you select the best stroller for your baby’s unique needs, from DealDash.

Figure Out the Budget

Firstly, you need to consider your budget as you want to stay within your budget when purchasing a stroller. Additionally, you should look at a wide variety of strollers that fall within your budget so that you can get an excellent idea of what is out there.

You can get a very inexpensive umbrella-type stroller from any big box store, but these won’t work for a small baby and they are usually not very sturdy. At the other end of the spectrum, there are strollers that are in excess of $1,000! Thankfully, there are many choices in-between.

Is it Complicated?

An important thing to consider how simple the stroller is to use. You need to make sure that the stroller will be simple to use while you are out and about with your baby. Also, you do not want to have a stroller that is uncomfortable and difficult to use. Pay special attention to how the stroller closes. You might have to close it one-handed at times, so be sure that it’s not too difficult to open and close.

Consider the Terrain

You will also need to consider where you will be using the stroller. For example, will you be using the stroller in the city or will you need it more for hiking in nature with your baby? Consider this carefully as there are different strollers for different terrains.

In addition, can the stroller be folded? Some jogging strollers are not able to be folded. If you want to use the stroller in a different location such as driving to a park, then it’s important that it folds. This means it will be much more simple to transport then if it could not be folded.

Ease of Assembly

Many strollers come in a box and need to be assembled. You also need to think about this when you go to the store or look online. Also, is it easy to understand all of the information provided about the stroller? You need to be able to understand which stroller is going to work the best for the needs of not only your baby but you as well.

Thanks for Reading

Getting a new stroller should be a decision that you choose carefully. Choosing a stroller can be overwhelming but if you take the time to do some research the entire process will go a lot more smoothly.  So keep that in mind when you’re looking for a stroller for your baby.

DealDash

Even if your babysitter comes over a lot, you’re going to need to leave them some instructions. Here are some ideas from DealDash.

No matter how many times you tell your babysitter something it will be much easier to remember if it has been written down. Here are several things that you should write down for your babysitter so you can be confident that they will be remembered. Read on for more information from DealDash.

Emergency Numbers

Important numbers should definitely be written down for your babysitter. This way they will know who to contact should they have any questions or if there is an emergency. You should keep the numbers in a central area like on the refrigerator in the kitchen. This way they can be easily referenced when needed.

Keep Your Child on Their Schedule

Your child’s schedule should also be written down for your babysitter. This is important so they know exactly what your child should be doing at what time of the day or the evening.  It is also very useful if your babysitter needs to pick up or drop off your child anywhere. This way your babysitter should know what they are doing at all times.

It can be something that can be referred back to should a rule get broken. If you would like your babysitter to punish your child for breaking a rule be sure to write down what the punishment is such as “No TV” or “5 minutes of time out.”

Special Notes

If you have other special considerations that you want your a babysitter to know about like a medication that your child needs that should also be written down as well. That way you will be helping your sitter provide the very best care for your child. This is important as you don’t want to present your babysitter with any unwanted surprises.

DealDash Cooks: Feeding Picky Eaters

Image result for picky eater

Feeding picky eaters can be difficult – and they are not always kids, either! Here are some tips from DealDash for feeding your picky eater.

Many parents go through the frustration of dealing with a picky eater. They spend countless hours trying to come up with things that their little one will eat. The following are some tips to keep in mind to assist the pickiest eaters to eat. These tips and tricks might not work as well on adults, but you can always give it a try! Read on for more information from DealDash.

Patience is Key

You need to be very patient with your picky eater and make sure you are consistent with getting them to try new foods. You don’t want to simply give up as that way your child (or picky spouse!) will think it is perfectly fine to dislike trying anything new. So don’t get upset and continue to offer them new things to eat.

Start Small

You also want to start off small when you want them to try new foods. You want to only offer them a small portion so they do not think that they need to eat a lot of something that they aren’t even sure they are going to like. Start by offering a piece or two a new fruit or vegetable or a few small pieces of a meat that they haven’t tried yet.

My rule at home is that my kids have to try one bite of everything. I read once that you have to try a new food eight times before you can truly decide if you like it or not. So until I can be 100% sure that my kids have tried a new food at least that many times, they will be having one bite.

Don’t Overdo the Snacks Before Dinner

You are going to want to balance out drinks and snacks during the day for your kids. If they get too much to eat or drink before dinner they are certainly not going to want to try something new that looks “yucky” to them.

(Friendly) Peer Pressure Can Work

You could also consider a little bit of outside help when it comes to getting your picky eater to eat something new. Invite a favorite friend or family member over for dinner and have them show your child how yummy the new food it. It just may encourage them to try it for themselves. This works especially well if your child has a few favorite cousins who are adventurous eaters. Try to invite them over every week so your child can learn from them.

Thanks for Reading

Having a picky eater can be frustrating as you need to deal with someone who isn’t welcoming the idea of trying new foods. However, if you are consistent and patient it is a period that you should be able to get through with little trouble. Try these tips from DealDash and your child will be asking for broccoli and brussel sprouts in no time!

Making scrapbooks is an enormously popular pastime that you should definitely do with your kids. There are so many different things that you can do with a scrapbook. So just why should you try making a scrapbook with your kids? Lots of reasons! Here are a few from DealDash for you to think about.

Get Creative!

Making a scrapbook with your kids will allow them to be creative. There really is no right or wrong when it comes to scrapbooks so you can let your kid’s creativity go wild. It will really let them be able to create something that they will be happy to share. Hopefully, they will continue to enjoy in the future. So make sure to plan for your kids to show their creativity while creating a scrapbook. Kids love arts and crafts, they’ll love it!

Learn About Their Family

Making a scrapbook is a great way for your child to learn more about their family. You can tell them stories from when they were younger or about you and your spouse before they were born. Photos are a great way to remember the past and keep great memories close to their hearts. The great thing about scrapbooks is that they don’t necessarily need to be about family. They can be about a fun trip or even about a family pet.   So plan for at least an hour or two of working with your kids on the scrapbook that you plan on making. This is also a great way to tell your kids about people in the family that they never got to meet or they don’t see very often.

What’s Important to Your Kids?

Making scrapbooks allows your kids to think about things that are important to them. From family to friends there are a whole lot of people, places, and things that your kids can put into a scrapbook. It really gives them the opportunity to save valuable things in a fun and creative way. Maybe they would like to make a scrapbook of a special trip, or even of a whole school year.

Thanks for Reading

So if you are looking for a fun and creative activity to do with your kids then you should look into all that creating a scrapbook can offer you. You will have such a great time creating memories with your kids. They will love it, and ask you when you can make another one together. Give it a try!

DealDash Kids: Baby Bath Time!

DealDash

When it comes to baby bath time you need to follow these tips to make things go smoothly. Read on for some tips from DealDash for washing the baby.

When it comes to bathing your baby things can be quite difficult especially if you’re a new parent.  You need to make sure that you have everything in close range so you can grab things quickly and you need to also be able to pay close attention to your child.  Here are a few things that you will require when it is bath time for your baby, from DealDash.

Baby Shampoo

You’ll need to get soap and shampoo that are made for bathing a baby.  You do not want to use adult shampoo or soap on a baby. You need to make sure that all of the soap and shampoo that you buy for bathing your baby is formulated for use specifically for babies. The shampoo and babies are meant to be tear-free, just in case you accidentally get it in your baby’s eyes.

Gentle Washcloths

You also want to make sure you get sponges and washcloths that you can use during bath time. If you can find bamboo fabric washcloths these are the most gentle for baby’s skin. Using these will be a fast and simple way to get your baby clean. You always want to remember to wash out the sponges and washcloths that you use after bathtime. You want to make sure you do not have to deal with any mildew or bacteria forming on them.

Bathtub for Baby

Getting a baby bathtub is a smart move especially if you’re a new parent.  Many of them come with a built-in seat and also often come with slip protection. This is so you do not have to worry about your baby slipping while you’re bathing them. Trust me, once you have soaped up the baby they will become quite slippery. If you want to keep the baby occupied while you’re bathing them you could also get some toys that they can play with. Things like rubber ducks and colorful animals are a great way to keep the baby occupied while you are bathing them.

Drying the Baby

After bathing, you will, of course, need a dry towel to dry your baby off. Again, I suggest bamboo fabric if you can find it. I personally prefer the type of baby towel that has a built-in hood for drying their hair.

Once you are done bathing and drying your child you’ll be ready to apply powder and lotion if you so choose.

Thanks for Reading

Bathing a newborn can seem intimidating. However, if you take the time to prepare you’ll see that the entire process will go a whole lot more smoothly. Follow these tips from DealDash and see how much easier bathing your baby can be.

DealDash Kids: Benefits of a Video Monitor

Summer Infant In View Digital Video Monitor

You know you’ll need a baby monitor if you’re expecting, but do you need a video one? Read this article from DealDash and find out.

If you are expecting a baby you may be wondering whether or not you should purchase a video baby monitor. You will find that there are many benefits to getting a video baby monitor for your baby including the following reasons, from DealDash.

Let Them Self-Soothe

Helping your child be able to go to sleep is one huge benefit of a video baby monitor. It allows you to keep an eye on your child while they have self-soothe themselves to sleep. The video baby monitor will also let you know when it is the right time to go into your child’s room to assist them in being able to fall asleep.

As an added bonus, many monitors have built-in music. This can be very helpful when you are teaching your baby to self-soothe.

Get More Sleep

A video baby monitor will also help you and your spouse get more sleep. You will be able to be more calm in going to sleep as you can easily keep an eye on your child as they are sleeping in their own room. Getting more sleep as a parent is healthy for everyone in the house. Instead of having to get up to check on your child when you hear them, you can turn on the screen of the monitor and see if there’s a problem or if they are just re-adjusting in their crib.

Helpful for Naps

You can also make sure that your baby is getting enough sleep during the day. Young children are recommended to be getting 12 hours of uninterrupted sleep per day. A video monitor can help you make that they are getting enough sleep as audio monitors just will not do the job as well.

Safety and Security

You will have a a lot more security while your baby is supposed to be sleeping. Many times young children get up in the night while their parents are still sleeping. A video baby monitor will alert you to your child doing something that they are not supposed to be doing. And if you have a toddler, you know they are always up to trouble!

Thanks for Reading

So when you are looking for things to get for your new baby you need to seriously consider a video baby monitor. You will be very happy with all of the benefits that you can gain from it. DealDash Kids: Throw a Fun Classroom Party

DealDash

Now that we’re more than 2/3rds through the school year it’s a common time to have classroom parties. Here are some great tips for throwing a classroom party, from DealDash.

Have you volunteered to help throw a party in your child’s classroom? If you are unsure as to where to start, this article from DealDash can help. It can seem like an overwhelming task at first, but hopefully, these helpful tips will make things a little easier for you. Read on for more information from DealDash.

Communicate with the Teacher

You want to make sure that you are properly communicating with all of the people that will be assisting you with the party. Make it a point to stay in contact with the teacher and classroom paraprofessional, but also any other parent volunteers. You need to make sure that everyone knows exactly what they need to be doing during the party. This way things will go a lot smoother during the party as everyone will know what their jobs are.

Split the Kids into Groups

Make sure to split the kids up into several different groups during the party. This way all of the kids will have a better chance to be able to do each activity that you have planned for the party. If you have all the kids in one big group there will be kids that will not get their turn to try each activity. If they are in several different groups it allows everyone to get their chance. This is also helpful for separating certain children who don’t work well together or distract each other from completing tasks.

Small Prizes Get Big Smiles

You will want to find prizes for everyone participating in the party. You don’t want anyone to feel bad for not getting something at the party so make sure to encourage everyone to give everything a try so they can get a prize. These prizes don’t have to be expensive. Some ideas for small prizes:

  • Stickers
  • Temporary tattoos
  • Self-inking stamps
  • Rubber bracelets
  • Plastic rings
  • Candy (Make sure that they are nut-free in case of allergies)

Snacks and Treats

If you have snacks or treats for the party make sure that you have them when the party is wrapping up. That way you do not have to worry about things getting too messy. Again, make sure that these treats are nut-free. Also, make sure to take lots of pictures during the party so that everyone can remember what a fun time they had at the party.

Thanks for Reading

As you can see there are all kinds of things that you can do to make your classroom party go more smoothly. You should not get too stressed out when you are ready to plan a classroom party. With a little planning you will find that it is actually quite simple to plan a great party that the kids will love.

Spring has so much potential for the activities you can do with your family outside, enjoying the beautiful warmth after three long months of cold. How do we best enjoy this wonderful time of year? We just need a little imagination and some spare time. But hey, that’s what spring break is for, right?

Pick Up a Frisbee

Some of the most enjoyable Springtime moments come from time outdoors with your family. April vacation is the perfect time to learn a new skill – why not how to throw a frisbee? Your kids will love tossing around a frisbee with you. Not only is it fun it’s also healthy for your body and your coordination.

Baseball or Softball

If your kids are a bit older, then April vacation is the perfect time to play some baseball or softball with them. You don’t need a field and full teams of nine people each for a friendly game. See if the neighbor kids want to join in, and get pitching!

Keep the Electronic Devices Off

Try to turn off the television, video games, and tablets for all of April vacation. This is the perfect time for getting outside, getting some sun, and burning off that energy from the long winter. It’s known that an object in motion tends to stay in motion – so let’s get that motion started and keep those devices off. Otherwise, your kids are just going to waste away the beautiful days in front of the TV.

If Your Kids Are Less Athletic

If your kids aren’t very athletic, no problem. We all have our own lifestyles and preferences. April vacation is a wonderful time to get your preparations for the garden started. My 6-year-old daughter isn’t much for sports, but she loves to be outside and helping with the garden.

Another fun thing to do to pass the time is hunting neat rocks in the creek or park and painting them. There is actually an article here on DealDashReviewed.com that explains how to do that. Just click here and read all about it.

Finally, another fun thing to do with your time would be building and painting a birdhouse with your kids. We did this last year and it was so much fun. If you’re handy you can build your own, but we got ours as a kit that simply needed to be assembled and painted.

Thanks for Reading

April vacation can be a lot of fun. I hope this article has given you some ideas on how to keep your kids busy.  These activities are easy and very fun for your kids to do. Keep the chorus of “I’m booorrrd!!!” to a minimum this April by using the tips in this article.

DealDash Helps Your Teen Live Healthily at College

DealDash

Do you have a teen or young adult in college? It can be hard to keep a healthy lifestyle while in college. Here are some tips from DealDash to help you help your child.

When your child goes off to college it can be difficult for them to keep fit. Whether it is running to class or to a job they may find little time to make sure that they stay healthy. Here are several things that you can suggest they do to stay fit while you are in college, from DealDash.

Water is #1

You want to make sure that they are drinking plenty of water. Everyone needs to keep hydrated so that they will be feeling at their best. It would be best if they could trade out sodas for water and tea. They will find that they look and feel a lot better than if they allowed themselves to become dehydrated.

No Skipping Breakfast

Try to be sure that they don’t make a habit of skipping breakfast. This really is the most important meal of the day. Tell them that if they skip this meal they will end up feeling hungry during the day. When they finally do get a chance to eat they will likely end up overeating foods that are not healthy. A way that you could help them with this problem is to purchase some extremely easy breakfast foods they can keep in their dorm. Things like granola bars, power bars, microwave oatmeal cups, and things of that nature are easy to grab and go.

Try Not to Go Out Frequently

I know that as a parent you will be a fan of this suggestion – they should stay away from going out as much as possible. Of course, you don’t want them to become a social recluse, there are plenty of things that they can do in their dorm. They can stay in an do something with friends such as watch movies, play video games, or even board games. By not going out very much they can avoid overeating and indulging in other things like alcohol too often. Staying in with friends instead can be fun and you can also plan healthy snacks. This way they can enjoy a night in without overindulging.

Sports and Fitness

There are lots of opportunities to participate in sports in college, from actually being on a sports team to pick-up games of basketball, rounds of bowling or ice skating, or even just playing a little frisbee between class. Doing these sports, or simply some fitness activities in their day is an extremely smart thing to do if they want to stay fit while in college. If you can encourage your child to make the time to get exercise they will not only be staying fit they’ll also be making new friends as well. It may take some work for them to get into a routine but try to encourage them so that they can stay fit and healthy.

Thanks for Reading

There are so many good reasons out there as to why you should encourage your child to stay fit in college. A great way to help them along the path of fitness would be to get them some new fitness gear. The good news for you is DealDash has plenty of sports and fitness equipment for auction.

DealDash Kids: Fun Crafts to do on Spring Break

DealDash

When you have young kids going on a Spring Break vacation isn’t in the cards. Here are some fun crafts from DealDash to do on school break.

When you have kids, you know the importance of keeping them occupied, especially during a school break. Kids need to do things to exercise their mind and creativity. There are so many activities kids can do besides going online and playing video games. Arts and crafts are one of the best things to do with your kids. There are so many crafts to choose from so I have narrowed down the best ones that kids will enjoy on their school break. Read on for some great craft ideas from DealDash.

Spin Tie Dye Art

Tie-dye activities are always a fun activity to do, and now that the weather is getting warmer you can do this one outside if you have a deck or patio.  The best way to do a tie-dye activity is to use your salad spinner as a spin art machine. Your kids can tie-dye many different things by using a salad spinner. It is important to use washable paint so you will not have any permanent marks on the spinner and no splatter. Kids will love this one because they can get outside and get a little messy.

Create a Fairy Garden

If you want to put your child’s imagination to good use, you should create a fairy garden. All you have to do is sprinkle some glitter over your garden and add different things such as colorful stones and rocks. Your kids will enjoy this activity because they will think the glitter is pixie dust.

If the weather where you are isn’t so nice yet, no problem. You can stay inside and help the kids paint stones for the fairy garden. There are kits to do this at the craft store, or you can easily use (washed) stones from outside and acrylic paint. If you would like your designs to last all through the year, be sure to spray a clear coat of paint on after the rocks are decorated to keep the rain off.

Slime

Slime is one of the most exciting crafts to do with your kids. All you need is glue, water, food coloring, and Borax solution. You can create different types of slime by using food coloring. Adding glitter and other things to your slime can also make it a lot of fun. Your kids will have a good time making slime and will enjoy playing with it. You can also add larger elements such as beads or foam balls to make textured slime. This activity is surprisingly not very messy.

Thanks for Reading

Crafting with your kids can be a lot of fun. I hope these three crafts have given you some ideas.  These crafts are easy to make, and it very fun for your kids. Arta and crafts are a great after-school activity to do once the homework is done or taking a break from electronics, not just on vacation breaks.  Your kids will activate their creativity and will enjoy spending time with you. Trust me, when they are older they will fondly remember the times spent crafting with you and not watching a screen.

DealDash Kids: Volunteer With Your Children

DealDash

We’ve talked about the benefits of volunteering before. Your kids can get the same satisfaction of helping others by volunteering as well. Here are some tips to get started, from DealDash.

Spending time with your kids is very important.  There are many things that you can do with your kids such as going to the park, go on vacations and other activities.  One of the best things to do with your kids is to volunteer and give back to your community. This will teach your kids how to serve others all while bonding with them. There are many volunteer activities you can do with your kids. Here are some ideas for volunteer work, from DealDash.

Write Cards for Kids Who are Sick

We can’t imagine how hard it must be to stay inside all day in the hospital when you are a kid. Writing cards and letters to kids in the hospital will bring a smile to the patient.  Simply have your kids write a letter to one of the kids, and they will form an awesome friendship with the young child that they are writing to. If your child is not quite writing yet, then find a nice blank card or picture to color, and let them color, and after you can write a nice message for them.

Sing for Senior Home Residents

Another activity that you can do is sing to the elderly in a nursing home. Persuade your children to explore their talent with music. You can write the songs for the elderly, or you can sing some of the songs that the seniors grew up with. You will brighten a senior citizens day by singing beautiful songs to lift their spirits. Trust me, the seniors won’t care if your kids can’t carry a tune, they just love to see little smiling faces.

Clean Up the Neighborhood Park

Cleaning outdoors is a great activity for kids. You can put together a neighborhood cleaning group to clean the parks in your neighborhood. You will be keeping your community clean and safe when you take time to clean up your neighborhood park. After you finish, you should have a picnic to reward yourself for your good deeds. Kids don’t mind this activity as much as you think they might, they like to be outside in the fresh air and sunshine.

Thanks for Reading

Volunteering with your kids can be a lot of fun. I hope these suggestions will give you some ideas on what volunteer activities you should do with your kids. Try one of these tips or all of them at different times. Regardless of which one you choose you will feel satisfied that you and your child are helping someone in need.

DealDash Helps Your Child With Fear of the Doctor

DealDash

If your kids are anything like mine they were afraid to go to the doctor. Read these tips and tricks from DealDash to help them get over that fear.

While you may think that going to see your healthcare provider is no big deal your child may have other ideas in mind. If your child is afraid of going to the doctor there are several ways in which you can assist in easing this fear. Remember, kids (especially younger ones) don’t understand that they will feel better after a trip to the doctor. Read this article from DealDash, and learn some handy tricks to get your child more comfortable with visiting the doctor.

Think Positively, Be Upbeat

You need to focus on the positives of going to the doctor. You need to tell your child that doctors are there to help and focus on the fun that can be had. For example, many doctors give out stickers to young patients.  This is a great way to ease their fear over a doctor’s visit. My kids have gotten lots of small prizes from going to the doctor such as coloring books, bouncy balls, and once the dentist gave my daughter a tiny teddy bear.

Please Be Honest

Being honest with your child is another thing that you need to do. You do not want to tell them, for example, that they will not feel pain at the doctor’s office as in reality things like shots can hurt. You need to be upfront and honest about what is going to go on during their visit so that there will be no unwanted surprises.

Offer a Small Bribe

I know that this isn’t the healthiest suggestion, but I always promise my kids a fast food kid’s meal if they don’t cry when they get their shots. This is a big treat since we don’t eat fast food too often, so it usually works. My 6-year-old daughter hasn’t cried for shots since she was three – even when she had an allergic reaction and needed an epi-pen at school. If your kids aren’t big fans of fast food, then try to think of some other “extra special” treat for them that they might not get very often such as ice cream.

Bring a Friend

Don’t have your child go alone. Of course, you will be there with them, but what about taking a special stuffed animal with them as well? It could go really far in easing the fear of a visit to the emergency clinic. Also visits to the dentist or your family’s doctor. It’s very simple to pack along a small stuffed animal and you will be so surprised at how well it can work. After all, stuffed animals were made for hugging!

Choose the Right Doctor

If you are seeking a doctor for your child always be sure to find one that specializes in family medicine. It helps to know that they have a great bedside manner with kids. Getting recommendations as to which doctor to pick for your child is highly suggested. You can ask friends, neighbors, and relatives. You can also ask for suggestions from your child’s school, as well.

Thanks for Reading

Going to the doctor can really seem like a big deal to a small child so anything you can do as the parent that can help them in not being as scared will be much appreciated by both your child and your family’s healthcare provider.

DealDash Throws a Kid’s Cooking Party

DealDash

Need something to keep your kids and their friends busy? Let DealDash show you how to throw a cooking party for kids.

Are you looking for a fun activity for your kids and their friends? Then you should definitely consider throwing a cooking party. It is a fantastic way for the kids to learn a useful skill while having a great deal of fun. Here are a few tips for throwing a fun and successful cooking party for kids, from DealDash.

What’s Your Theme?

The first thing that you should do when you throw a cooking party for kids is to select a theme for your party. For instance, you could throw a pizza making party, or perhaps you could focus on summer foods. Whatever you think might hold the interest of the kids that are invited to the party. Once you have a theme you are ready to move to the next step.

If you’d like to ensure the success of your cooking party, when you send out the invites include a poll on what type of cooking theme the party will have. Give a couple of choices, and go with what the majority chooses when they RSVP.

Keep it Small

You will want to keep the guest list short for the party. This is because you want to be able to be able to give all the kids the attention that they deserve. You also want to make sure the party is really hands on so that the kids will all have fun and no one will get bored. ANd most importantly you want to make sure that you can watch everyone so no one accidentally gets hurt. Between 5-7 kids is the perfect number for your cooking party. If you have other younger children to watch you will want to keep the number lower.

Variety is the Spice of Life

Make sure there are a variety of things to do at the cooking party. For instance, make sure there is something for a child to do that may not want to get as messy as the other kids. This is a great way to make sure that everyone is involved. You should offer different stations that the kids can work at so they can have the most fun. Some examples of workstations could be washing the fruits/veggies, using a cookie cutter to make shapes, mixing ingredients together, and so on.

Send Them Home with a Little Something

When everything is the and they kids are ready to go home offer them each a fun goody bag. These things will help them remember the party. It doesn’t have to be anything expensive just something related to cooking such as cookie or sandwich cutters, fun-themed measuring spoons, etc.

Thanks for Reading

As you can see it is really simple to put together a cooking party for kids. You just need to remember to have a lot of patience especially if you happen to be working with younger kids. That way not only the kids will have fun but you will as well.

DealDash Introduces Gardening to Kids

DealDash

Treat your kids to the hobby that will last a lifetime. Here are some tips to gardening with your kids, from DealDash.

Gardening is one of the most relaxing activities to do and can be fun for kids.  Kids can learn about the life cycle process such as how plants grow, caretaking, and being aware of the environment.  There are some tips that you should know about if you want to do some gardening with your kids. Here are two important tips to take into consideration when you are gardening with your kids, from DealDash.

Choose Plants Kids Want to Grow

When you are looking for plants to grow, you should choose plants that kids love.  Kids enjoy plants that grow quickly and have a strong smell. Some plants to take into consideration are vegetables such as peas, tomatoes, squash, lettuce, and radishes.  Plants like potatoes and carrots are also fun to plant because kids easily recognize them. Talk with your kids to see which plants they would like to grow.

Fun Gardening Projects

There are many different gardening projects for kids. You can create a rainbow garden by planting plants that coordinate with the colors of the rainbow. Another fun theme to do is create a pizza garden.  All you have to do is organize the crops in a circle and have each kid pick a wedge to represent the ingredients of a pizza. In every wedge, you should plant crops that can be found on pizza such as onions and tomatoes.  When the crops are grown, you can use it for pizza. Be sure to give this one a try, it makes things extra fun!

Thanks for Reading

I hope these tips will help you have a fun experience planting in your garden with your kids. Remember to give each of your kids a patch in your garden.  It will give them space away from other plants in your garden. It is also important to use kid-friendly gardening tools. You can buy gardening tools such as rakes, gloves, and spades for kids. Following these tips will help your kids have a great time gardening.

DealDash Smart Tips to Keep Your Family Healthy

DealDash

Everyone wants their family to be happy and healthy. Here are some smart tips to help, from DealDash.

You, of course, want the best for your spouse and your children. So, one of the things that you want for them is for your family to be healthy. It may take some time and work for you to help get your family on track to being healthy. However, it will be well worth the work. Here are some tips for helping your family be healthy, from DealDash.

Don’t Forget to Exercise

You will want to make a practice of exercising. You will need to make time for exercising with your family at least 3-5 times per week. You will want to make it fun so that everyone will want to participate. Change up the activities that you are doing in order to help keep everyone’s interest in becoming and staying fit. Some ideas might be to ride bikes together, take a walk around the park or a lake, some light hiking, ice or roller skating, or even just a stroll around the neighborhood.

No More Junk Food

Cutting out soda and the majority of sugary treats is also going to help your family become healthier. You don’t have to give up everything you like but by doing this you and your family will see a great improvement in how you look and feel. There are actually many things that you can exchange in your diet that are just as tasty, such as fruit tea for soda and fruits instead of candy. Of course, you don’t have to give up all of the treats. Why not compromise some strawberries with whipped cream instead of cake? Still delicious, and much healthier for you and your family.

Add More Veggies

Speaking of eating healthier, you can also make more changes to your diet. Choose to do things like consuming more vegetables and lean meats such as fish and chicken. You can also do things such as eating smaller portions more frequently throughout the day instead of eating larger meals.

Meal planning is essential when you want to eat healthier. Try to get your family’s input on their favorite fruits, veggies, and lean meats when you are planning your meals. Picky eaters are much more likely to eat the veggies that they chose for themselves.

Thanks for Reading

Getting your family healthy can seem like a lot of work especially if you are a busy family but it is well worth the effort. You will see that with some work all of your family will be fit and healthy in no time at all and you can all enjoy your healthy new life together.

DealDash Kids: Tips for an Easter Celebration

DealDash

With Easter just a couple short weeks away, now is the time to plan your celebration. Here are some tips to help, from DealDash.

Planning a fun Easter celebration is essential, especially if you have young children. You need to plan a great day for everyone to be able to enjoy this holiday. Here are some ideas for planning a memorable Easter celebration, from DealDash.

The Egg Hunt

The first thing you definitely need to do is to plan an Easter egg hunt. Nothing says “Easter Party” more than an egg hunt. It would be very smart to assign each child participating their own egg color so that everyone will be able to find the same amount of eggs. You also might have to get creative with your Easter egg hunt should the weather not be good.

You can do the eggs one of two ways. You can do the traditional way of dying real eggs. Or, alternately, you can choose to buy plastic eggs and put tiny surprises in them instead. It’s up to you.

Fun with Activities

Another thing that you should do is plan some simple Easter crafts for the kids to do. You will want to plan accordingly for the different ages of kids participating so that everyone will be able to participate. This would be a great way for to kids to make something to remember the celebration. For the youngest kids, age 2-4, just coloring an Easter picture might be enough to keep them occupied. For older kids, though, there are many fun things they could do, such as decorate their own Easter basket.

If the weather is nice the day of your celebration you should take things outside. Have some outdoor games planned for the kids if the weather permits you to enjoy the nice weather. It would be a great way to enjoy the day.

Don’t Forget the Food

You will also want to plan for some fun food for everyone to enjoy. You will likely want to stick with something simple as you will have younger kids enjoying the food you have prepared. Finger food and foods that are simple to eat are great ideas so that everyone will find something that they will enjoy eating. Things such as a fruit plate, veggie sticks with dip, or even pizza would be great for your celebration.

Thanks for Reading

Planning an Easter celebration is a lot simpler than you would think. You just need to be sure you are planning age-appropriate activities for the kids participating to do, along with some delicious foods! You will be all set to enjoy this special holiday.
