DealDash

Here we are in January! Before you know it, it will be time for Spring cleaning. Get ahead with these closet organizing tips from DealDash.

It is the new year, and everyone is working on their resolutions. One of the most popular resolutions is organizing your closet. An organized closet gets rid of all of the clutter. When your closet is organized it is easy to find the stuff you are looking for. If your closet is dirty it can seem like an overwhelming task. Here are some tips to organize your closet with a little help from DealDash.

Coordinate Your Clothes

The best way to organize your closet is to hang things in order on hangers by color. Or you can also organize your clothes by type. For example, you can group all of your long sleeve shirts together or put all of your dresses together. To keep things even more organized hang all of your shirts, blouses on hangers and then put your pants, socks, and underwear in drawers.

Add More Space

Sometimes closets are too small, and that can cause a problem when you are organizing your closet. If you don’t have enough room, try using an empty room and turn it into a closet. You will have a whole room to put all of your clothing, shoes, and accessories in, and you can easily find it. It is also good to add a mirror and a dresser in your closet room. When you add more space, your closet will be easy to organize.

Put Your Shoes on the Door

Shoes are easy to organize. Simply buy a storage rack for your shoes and organizing them by the type of shoe. Hang rails on the inside of your door to make extra storage for your shoes. When you have an organizer for your shoes, you will have plenty of room in your closet.

DealDash Cleans Out Those Closets

You should be cleaning out your closets twice per year – once in the spring, and once in the fall. The fall is upon us, let’s clean!

It’s easy to let your closet get away from you, especially if you are a big shopper, like myself. If you are reading the DealDash entertainment shopping blog, then I am going to assume that you are a big shopper as well. I find myself picking up new clothing items for myself or my children on a weekly basis, I am a sucker for a great deal, and I will often buy things that are definitely not in season in order to save some money. Now is the time to get organized.

The first thing that you need to do is to take out all of the items in your closet that scream “SUMMER!!” these include bathing suits, swim cover ups, shorts, tank tops, and floppy hats. After you have removed all of the summer things, take a good look through them. Are there items that you don’t often wear, or you bought without trying on, and when you got home and tried them they just weren’t your style? Make 3 piles – keep, give to a friend, and donate.

The keep pile is easy, stick those keepers in some large Rubbermaid-style totes and pack them away in your attic, basement, or wherever you chose to store them. If you would like to keep them fresh and ready to go for next year, stick in a few of those cedar disks or even just a dryer sheet or two. Be sure to label your totes so you can find them easily when it’s time to put out the summer clothing again.

Next is the give to a friend pile. Do you have a friend who is your size that would enjoy your hand-me-downs? If you’re cleaning your child’s closet, do they have a cousin or other younger family member who would fit into their discarded clothing next summer? Why not bag them up and give them to your friend or family member? It’s an easy thing to do, and might make that person’s day a little brighter.

Lastly, is the donation pile. Anything that you aren’t planning on keeping, and have no one in your immediate friend or family circle that can use them, why not bag them up give them to your local charity shop? I personally prefer smaller, locally owned charity shops versus corporate ones, they tend to keep donated items in the community rather than shipping them out elsewhere, but that’s just my personal preference. Give your discarded clothing to whatever charity you feel comfortable giving them to, and enjoy that good karma!

Now that you have cleaned out your closet, why not reward yourself with a little entertainment shopping on DealDash? DealDash Helps: Clean Out Your Closet

Do you ever feel like the lady in the picture above? Your closet is packed to the gills, yet you feel like you have nothing to wear? It’s time to clean that closet out.

It might seem a bit counterintuitive, but when you clean out your closet and have less clothing to choose from it is often easier to find something to wear. The reason behind this phenomenon is when your closet is so tightly packed together it’s very easy to overlook clothing items, and in time you forget exactly what clothing that you have to choose from.

You should do a closet clean out twice per year – once when you put away your winter clothing for the year, and once when you put your summer clothing away for the year. The first year of bi-annual closet clean-outs will be the most difficult, it will only get easier the subsequent years. Let’s get down to the business of closet cleaning.

It’s just becoming summer now, let’s assume that you haven’t yet put away your winter clothing yet. The first thing that you are going to want to do is pull out all of your winter clothing. Shirts, sweaters, pants, wool socks, scarves, everything. Pile it all onto your bed or couch. The next thing you want to do is make piles. I personally make a keep, donate, and trash pile.

There are very few things that go into the trash pile, mostly worn out socks and tights, but if you are harder on your clothing than I am you might have pants with knee holes, or other imperfections.

The donation pile can include things that are worn out but still usable, items that don’t fit, or things that you bought or were given and just don’t like. If you are the type of person who claims individual charitable deductions on your taxes instead of taking the standard deduction you should make a list of the items that you are donating so that you can attach it to your donation receipt.

The keep pile should be neatly packed away, clean and ready for the next season. I like to toss in a few of the wooden cedar rounds that are meant to be put in dresser drawers to keep things fresh, but other people prefer to put in a fabric softener sheet or two.

Now, it’s time to put up your summer clothing. as you are putting your clothing on hangers be sure to hang the hangers backwards in your closet as you are hanging them up. After you have worn the item, washed it, and are putting it away again you can put the hanger as your normally would. This will make things easier when it’s time to clean out the closet again when the next season comes, because any clothing item that is still on a backwards hanger means that you haven’t worn it all season, and it’s time to donate it.

See, wasn’t that easy? Now, believe it or not, I have gotten all of my storage items that I use from DealDash!
