Losing weight is difficult, but there are a few easy things to do to get started. Read on for more information from DealDash.

If you are like many you are looking to get rid of some unwanted pounds. However, you might be somewhat unsure of where to start. Here are some quick ways to shed some pounds, easily and healthfully, from DealDash.

Don’t Skimp on Protein

You will want to make sure that you are eating protein at each meal, including breakfast. This is a fantastic way to really jump start your weight loss efforts. Go for lean proteins such as chicken and turkey.

Go Light on the Oils

Stop using vegetable oils such as corn and sunflower. Instead, you want to switch to using olive oil in your food preparation. However, try to keep the oil to a minimum if you can. Try the zero calorie spray when you are cooking.

Water is Your BFF

Drink water at every chance possible. It is recommended that you drink an eight ounce glass for each 20 pounds of weight that you are carrying. If you have a difficult time trying to drink water add a slice of lemon or cucumber to it. Reduce the amount of dairy that you are consuming. There are a few exceptions like low sugar yogurts, but try to substitute water when milk is needed.

No More Alcohol

Get rid of drinking alcohol entirely if you are able to. You really won’t gain many health benefits from drinking alcohol. You will find that there are many non-alcoholic options that will satisfy you. Again, try to substitute water for all drinks during your day and evening.

Not Too Much Fruit

Don’t over-do it on the fruit. You need to stick with fruits that are low in sugar and high in fiber. Apples and bananas are great examples of fruits that you should be consuming. Also, make sure that you are avoiding fruit juices as many contains unneeded sugars that can cause weight gain. Fruit juices also don’t contain the wonderful benefits of fiber that you get from eating fruit.

If you have leftover vegetables you could make a vegetable soup. You could also use leftover vegetables for beef stew or chicken noodle soup. Finally, you can get some herb-infused olive oil to dip the bread in as an appetizer. Bread is so useful and there’s no need to throw the leftover bread away!

Rice can be re-used as well. For example, if you have a great deal of rice left over you can make pudding or meatballs with it. Both rice and bread are great leftovers to have available for cooking.

Got Lettuce?

If you have a lot of leftover lettuce from a meal you can always save it and make use of it for a salad or sandwiches. Just be sure to find the proper container for the lettuce so you don’t have to worry about it spoiling before you are able to use it. Remember to store it with the core pointing down with a tiny bit of water in the bottom. This will keep your lettuce fresh for longer.

Make it into Lunch

If you have a lot of leftovers from a dinner, you should consider turning them into lunch the next day. You will be able to eat healthier. Also, another bonus to doing this is that you will be able to save money on not going to a restaurant for your workday lunches.

DealDash Kid-Friendly Vegetables

DealDash

If you want your kids to eat more veggies it can take a little work. Here are some tips from DealDash to get you started.

Every parent wants thire kids to be healthy, but getting them to do things like eat more vegetables can be a tough task. Here are some tips that will get your kids eating more vegetables so that they will develop much healthier habits, from DealDash.

Let Them Help

You can involve your child in meal planning and preparation. This is a great way to get their input on what vegetables that they like and which ones they may need some encouragement trying. Kids might also find that after helping prepare the veggies they have more of an incentive to try them. Another great reason to get your kids involved with meal planning is that they don’t feel forced to try the vegetables that you want them to eat. My daughter loves to help me prepare veggies by washing them for me. She really feels like part of the team when she assists in preparing the veggies for dinner.

Farmer’s Market Samples

Taking your kids to a farmer’s market is another way to encourage your kids to eat more vegetables. Many times there are samples offered that your kids can try and it again gives them the chance to pick and choose what vegetables that they would like to eat. With all the fun colors of vegetables, it is a really fun way to get your kids excited about eating better.

This is good for you as well because sometimes they have fruits and vegetables that aren’t sold in your regular supermarket. Many times I have been hesitant about purchasing a new fruit or veggie at the supermarket. However, after having a sample at the farmer’s market it makes it an easy decision.

Bring on the Sauces

If your child is still hesitant about eating vegetables you can serve them with some kid-friendly dips or sauces. This a fantastic way to get them to try a vegetable that they might have passed up before. Just be sure that they are not eating more dip or sauce than vegetables.

One of my daughter’s favorites is a veggie dip that is made with two simple ingredients. You just need a packet of ranch dry seasoning and a tub of plain greek yogurt. It’s much healthier than buying a pre-made ranch dressing or onion dip that’s made for chips. Another great dip for veggies is hummus. They even have new varieties of hummus that are chocolate and caramel flavor! These would be great to spread on apples or bananas.

Be a Good Example

Another great way to get kids to eat more vegetables is to lead by example. If they see their parents eating more vegetables they will be more likely to start trying and eating them as well. If you avoid eating vegetables your kids will think that they can as well. Personally, I am not a fan of many different types of vegetables. However, I make sure that I cook at least one veggie side per night at dinner as well as have salads available. One veggie that the entire family can agree on is asparagus!

Thanks for Reading

Getting your kids to eat more vegetables may seem like an impossible task however with a little work you will have them making healthy choices in no time.

DealDash Cooks: Avoid Nonstick Cookware Mistakes

DealDash

Nonstick cookware is easy to use and makes things easier. However, it’s still possible to make mistakes when using it. Read on for more information from DealDash.

If you are using your nonstick cookware properly it will last a good deal longer than if you were to not be doing all that you can to keep them in great shape. Here are a few mistakes to avoid when using nonstick cookware. Read this article to get some great tips from DealDash.

Don’t Use Nonstick Spray

Using nonstick cooking spray is a big mistake when it comes to using nonstick cookware. Why is this a problem, you might be wondering? Well if you use nonstick cooking spray on nonstick cookware there will be a sticky film that develops that will not come off at all. You will have to scrub it off, which is not good for your nonstick cookware.

Don’t Scrub too Hard

You should also avoid using abrasive items on your nonstick cookware. This means that you should avoid things like knives and metal spatulas. They can end up scratching the coating off of your nonstick cookware making it not be as useful to use. It is best to use rubber utensils when it comes to nonstick cookware. You should also not use any extremely abrasive sponges or scouring pads, either.

Don’t Wash in the Dishwasher, Please!

Washing your nonstick cookware in a dishwasher is another mistake that you need to avoid. While many pieces of nonstick cookware say they are dishwasher safe you will find that after a while harsh detergents can wear away at the coating of your cookware. The high temperatures of the water will not be good for the cookware either. You should wash all of your nonstick pots and pans by hand.

Not too Hot!

Cooking over too much heat is not a good thing to do if you are working with nonstick cookware. The higher the heat the more the opportunity to wear away at the coating of your cookware. And after you reach a certain level of heat your cookware can start releasing toxic emissions.

Thanks for Reading

By avoiding these mistakes you will find that you will have cookware that lasts much longer than if you were not to treat it correctly. By avoiding these mistakes you will have cookware that lasts a long time and performs great.

If you’re in the market for a new set of nonstick cookware, be sure to check DealDash! DealDash has a huge selection of cooking and kitchen items.

DealDash Throws a BBQ on a Budget

DEALDASH

Just because you’re on a budget doesn’t mean you can’t have a BBQ. Here are some tips from DealDash to have an awesome budget BBQ.

Backyard BBQ’s are one of the most popular activities to do during the Spring and Summertime. The weather is getting warmer, so most likely you would want to enjoy the fresh air. Throwing a BBQ is an extraordinary way to enjoy the weather and bring family and friends together. Some people think that you have to spend a lot of money on BBQ food and activities. That is not true. Here are three ways to throw a barbeque on a budget, from DealDash.

Save Money on Meat

You can’t have a BBQ without meat right? When you are throwing a BBQ, you might be tempted to buy the top-quality cuts of meats, but that can eat up your budget. You should go for ground beef instead of buying steak and purchase hot-dogs instead of expensive sausages. Your guests will still love the food although you are saving money. If you simply must have steak for your BBQ there are many cheaper cuts of meat such as a 7-bone steak or a petite filet that you can purchase instead of ribeyes.

Activities for Entertainment

You don’t have to spend a lot of money on activities. If you want to entertain the kids you can have a water balloon toss, blow bubbles, or just put on some music and dance. Make sure you just enjoy yourself and talk with your family and friends. It does not have to be expensive to create some activities for your BBQ. If you want to personalize the day you can make a special playlist for your BBQ that will get everyone dancing.

Ask Your Guests to Help

It is important to ask your guests to bring a dish to share, potluck style. You can cover the main dish, grilled meat, but your guests can cover the side dishes. This will help you save money on food. If your guests have any dietary need or allergies it is important for them to bring food that they can eat. If your guest isn’t much of a cook you can suggest that they pick up some bottled water and soda for the BBQ.

Thanks for Reading

Throwing a BBQ is an exciting activity to do. These tips will help you save a lot of money on the things that you would need for a BBQ. If you follow these tips you will have a BBQ that you will always remember.

DealDash Cooks: Feeding Picky Eaters

Image result for picky eater

Feeding picky eaters can be difficult – and they are not always kids, either! Here are some tips from DealDash for feeding your picky eater.

Many parents go through the frustration of dealing with a picky eater. They spend countless hours trying to come up with things that their little one will eat. The following are some tips to keep in mind to assist the pickiest eaters to eat. These tips and tricks might not work as well on adults, but you can always give it a try! Read on for more information from DealDash.

Patience is Key

You need to be very patient with your picky eater and make sure you are consistent with getting them to try new foods. You don’t want to simply give up as that way your child (or picky spouse!) will think it is perfectly fine to dislike trying anything new. So don’t get upset and continue to offer them new things to eat.

Start Small

You also want to start off small when you want them to try new foods. You want to only offer them a small portion so they do not think that they need to eat a lot of something that they aren’t even sure they are going to like. Start by offering a piece or two a new fruit or vegetable or a few small pieces of a meat that they haven’t tried yet.

My rule at home is that my kids have to try one bite of everything. I read once that you have to try a new food eight times before you can truly decide if you like it or not. So until I can be 100% sure that my kids have tried a new food at least that many times, they will be having one bite.

Don’t Overdo the Snacks Before Dinner

You are going to want to balance out drinks and snacks during the day for your kids. If they get too much to eat or drink before dinner they are certainly not going to want to try something new that looks “yucky” to them.

(Friendly) Peer Pressure Can Work

You could also consider a little bit of outside help when it comes to getting your picky eater to eat something new. Invite a favorite friend or family member over for dinner and have them show your child how yummy the new food it. It just may encourage them to try it for themselves. This works especially well if your child has a few favorite cousins who are adventurous eaters. Try to invite them over every week so your child can learn from them.

Thanks for Reading

Having a picky eater can be frustrating as you need to deal with someone who isn’t welcoming the idea of trying new foods. However, if you are consistent and patient it is a period that you should be able to get through with little trouble. Try these tips from DealDash and your child will be asking for broccoli and brussel sprouts in no time!

DealDash Tips to Buying Dark Chocolate

DealDash

Dark chocolate is yummy and healthier than it’s milk chocolate counterpart. Read these tips from DealDash for buying dark chocolate.

With Spring upon us you may be thinking about getting chocolates and other treats for your kids. But what about you? If you happen to enjoy dark chocolate as a treat you should buy the best quality chocolate that you can find. Here are some tips for buying the best dark chocolate, from DealDash.

Always Read the Ingredients

Take some time to read the ingredients when you are shopping for dark chocolate. You want no more than five ingredients listed on the wrapper. One of the ingredients on the wrapper should be cocoa and you also want to look for natural ingredients in place of artificial ingredients. This is so that you know you are getting the best quality chocolate.

Check the Expiration Date

You also want to keep track of the expiration date on the wrapper of the chocolate that you are purchasing. This is not only to help ensure that you are getting the best quality chocolate but also that you are getting something that you can safely eat. If your chocolate does not have an expiration date on it don’t purchase it. This goes for all foods, so please pay attention when you are shopping.

Buy From a Good Brand

Make sure that you are purchasing your dark chocolate from a reputable brand. If you are taking a chance on an unknown brand you are running the risk of the chocolate not being of a good quality. So be sure to purchase your dark chocolate from a brand that you trust so you know that you are getting a good quality product.

Remember, just because it’s the most expensive doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s the best, either. Do a little research online and read the reviews of a few different brands before you make your decision.

Thanks for Reading

Now keep all of these things in mind when you are looking for the best quality dark chocolate so that you can really treat yourself. You will find that better quality dark chocolate is not priced much differently then it’s lesser quality counterparts so it should fit right into your budget. And you are definitely going to appreciate the difference between the qualities of dark chocolate that are out there.

DealDash Throws a Kid’s Cooking Party

DealDash

Need something to keep your kids and their friends busy? Let DealDash show you how to throw a cooking party for kids.

Are you looking for a fun activity for your kids and their friends? Then you should definitely consider throwing a cooking party. It is a fantastic way for the kids to learn a useful skill while having a great deal of fun. Here are a few tips for throwing a fun and successful cooking party for kids, from DealDash.

What’s Your Theme?

The first thing that you should do when you throw a cooking party for kids is to select a theme for your party. For instance, you could throw a pizza making party, or perhaps you could focus on summer foods. Whatever you think might hold the interest of the kids that are invited to the party. Once you have a theme you are ready to move to the next step.

If you’d like to ensure the success of your cooking party, when you send out the invites include a poll on what type of cooking theme the party will have. Give a couple of choices, and go with what the majority chooses when they RSVP.

Keep it Small

You will want to keep the guest list short for the party. This is because you want to be able to be able to give all the kids the attention that they deserve. You also want to make sure the party is really hands on so that the kids will all have fun and no one will get bored. ANd most importantly you want to make sure that you can watch everyone so no one accidentally gets hurt. Between 5-7 kids is the perfect number for your cooking party. If you have other younger children to watch you will want to keep the number lower.

Variety is the Spice of Life

Make sure there are a variety of things to do at the cooking party. For instance, make sure there is something for a child to do that may not want to get as messy as the other kids. This is a great way to make sure that everyone is involved. You should offer different stations that the kids can work at so they can have the most fun. Some examples of workstations could be washing the fruits/veggies, using a cookie cutter to make shapes, mixing ingredients together, and so on.

Send Them Home with a Little Something

When everything is the and they kids are ready to go home offer them each a fun goody bag. These things will help them remember the party. It doesn’t have to be anything expensive just something related to cooking such as cookie or sandwich cutters, fun-themed measuring spoons, etc.

Thanks for Reading

As you can see it is really simple to put together a cooking party for kids. You just need to remember to have a lot of patience especially if you happen to be working with younger kids. That way not only the kids will have fun but you will as well.

Marinate Your Food

You could choose to marinate your food. Marinating your food will not only help to give it a great taste but it can also help to make tougher cuts of meat much easier to work with and enjoy at the dinner table. You can even marinate vegetables if you wish to do so when preparing your next meal. You can make your own marinade, buy a prepared one, or even just use Italian dressing. The choice is yours, depending on the flavor that you are seeking.

Use Your Kitchen Tools to Help

If you have some vegetables that you think are a little past their prime and you have a food processor you can puree the vegetables. You can do things like adding them to a soup to thicken and enhance the flavor. Doing this can not only add nutrients to a dish but some great flavors as well. This is also an excellent way to hide veggies from picky eaters.

Add Fruit – Nature’s Candy

If you would like to brighten up a meal consider adding some fruit to it. You can do things like adding mangoes to salsa or create a peach sauce to go along with pork chops. The possibilities are really endless here for some great flavor combinations. Not only is it delicious, but it’s also a great way to incorporate more fruits into your family’s diet.

Try Adding Texture

If you would like to add a nice crunchy texture to your meals then think about adding some nuts to your next dish. You can add walnuts to add a nice crunch to a salad or crushed pecans can make a nice breading for fish or chicken. You can really add some interesting flavors to your meals here. If you are not a fan of nuts, then you could also try adding crushed Corn Flakes as a breading, instead. It also will provide a nice crunch with much less fat.

DealDash Keeps Your Kitchen Organized

DealDash

You don’t have to be a gourmet chef to want an organized kitchen. Here are some tips from DealDash to help.

With the kitchen being one of the busiest rooms in the house it takes more than simply putting things in the right place to keep things organized. You also need to think of things like meal planning and grocery shopping to keep things moving smoothly. Here are some tips to create a more organized kitchen in your home, from DealDash.

Plan Your Meals

Take some time to plan meals. While this can seem like a time-consuming task it will actually end up saving you a lot of time. You will know exactly what you have for dinner and what you need to prepare it. This is so you do not have to spend more time in the kitchen than you really have to when preparing a meal. It can also help speed up the grocery buying process as well.

Grocery Shopping

This leads us to grocery shopping. Plan your shopping times in advance so you know that you will have the items that you need to prepare the meals that you want to serve when you want to serve them. This really goes hand in hand with meal planning so be sure to take advantage of doing both of them. This will help keep your kitchen organized because you won’t be buying lots of excess items to fill your kitchen and pantry.

Prep in Advance

Make sure when you are preparing your food to do all of the needed prep work in advance. Take the time to preheat the oven, chop vegetables, and do anything else ahead of time that you can.  This will help you spend much less time in the kitchen than trying to do everything all at once. This will also cut down on the mess and chaos in your kitchen. Prepping in advance and cleaning up after each step will help keep your kitchen organized.

Clean Up After Yourself

As I mentioned above, be sure to clean up your messes in the kitchen as soon as possible. This again will help to limit your time in the kitchen and is also a great safety precaution as you do not want anyone to get hurt on someone’s mess. Cleaning up thoroughly can help prevent slip and fall accidents.

Thanks for Reading

These are just a few tips to help organize your kitchen. If you take the time to do things like meal plan and do prep work in advance you will love how much more organized your kitchen will become.

Do you love eating fish? If you do, then you need to read these tips on grilling fish, from DealDash.

With the weather getting warmer you might be thinking about breaking out your outdoor grill to start preparing some of your meals. One excellent choice for a tasty and healthy meal on the grill is grilling fish. Here are a few tips for grilling fish, from DealDash.

Choose Your Fish Wisely

You want to select the right kind of fish when you want to grill it. While frozen fish is okay for grilling, for optimal results you want to try and use fresh fish. This is if at all possible. If you are unsure of how to select a good cut of fresh fish, ask someone in the meat department for assistance. If you must go with frozen fish make sure you select well-packaged fish that does not have any signs of being freezer burnt.

Time to Marinate

Once you have your fish for grilling you will need to make sure that you are preparing it correctly for grilling.  If you are grilling a thicker cut of fish like salmon, you need to marinate it for 4-5 hours before grilling it to really bring out the flavor. If you are grilling a more delicate cut of fish like tilapia you will want to grill it in a foil package to avoid it falling apart on the grill. No matter what kind of fish you use you can easily read it’s grilling instructions by doing a quick internet search.

Now it’s Time to Grill

Now that you have properly prepared your fish, you need to grill it correctly. Make sure that you have oiled the grill so that your fish will not stick while grilling. If you have marinated your fish, make sure to pat it dry with a paper towel so that you can get a nice sear on it. If you have not marinated your fish make sure to add salt and pepper before putting your fish on the grill.

Making sure that you have grilled your fish correctly will do wonderful things for the taste of the dish you are preparing. You and your whole family will love it.

DealDash Kids: Cooking Class at Home

DealDash Teaching your kids to cook can be a fun and rewarding experience for both you and your kids. Here are some tips to get started from DealDash.

Learning to cook is something that everyone has to do eventually unless you plan on hiring a personal chef. Starting your kids on this path early can be very beneficial to your child. They can learn a useful skill while having a bit of fun at the same time, and will be very entertaining for you as well. What better way to help them than to hold a cooking class in your own kitchen. Here are some of the benefits that you can gain by doing this, from DealDash.

Time Management Skills

You’ll see that your child will learn time management when taking a cooking class.  They will need to learn how to properly prepare each component of the meal. This is to make sure that everything will be ready on time.  They will also need to be able to properly read recipes. Thus, they will know what time everything needs to be done. This is so that everything in the meal will be at the temperature required of the time of being served.

If you have a child who hasn’t quite learned to read yet, then this can be a great time to practice for that as well. Imagine that, a cooking class and a reading class at the same time. Two birds with one stone, a total parenting win!

Time to Be Creative

Your child will learn to be creative when taking a cooking class. They can use their imaginations in different things when preparing different dishes.  While you’ll be able to teach them the basics of cooking, you also want to let them use their imagination to come up with new flavor combinations.  Getting creative in the kitchen will help your child learn to love cooking more.

If you aren’t a very imaginative cook yourself, no problem. There are plenty of cookbooks to help. Not only that, you can try cooking dishes from other countries.

Learn Measurements

Your child will be able to learn the basics of cooking while taking a cooking class including learning to use different kitchen utensils. They will learn how to use them properly when they’re cooking on their own.  You’ll also help them  learn things like how to deal with different measurements. This is so that they know that they can add the proper amount of each ingredient to the dish that they’re cooking. Don’t look now, Mom (or Dad!) here is another opportunity for learning. Using cooking measurements are the perfect time to learn some math.

Thanks for Reading

So if you are looking for ways to teach a child how to cook, the best thing that you can do is hold a cooking class in your kitchen.  That way you can teach them the basics of cooking. Also, you can both have a little bit of fun in the kitchen at the same time.

DealDash Cooks: More Beginner Tips

DealDash

Every beginner cook needs a few tips. Here are some helpful hints from DealDash.

No matter if you want to learn or if you are in a position where you need to learn there will come a time where you will have to cook.  There are many things to keep into consideration if you’re a beginning chef. The following are some tips that every beginner cook will find useful, from DealDash.

Cookbooks Are Your Friend

You’ll want to start off of getting some cookbooks to learn about different styles of cooking.  Keep into account the styles of cooking that you want to learn about and find cookbooks that offer recipes that cover those styles.  You want to find recipes that are easy to follow so you do not get discouraged when you’re cooking.

If paper cookbooks aren’t your style, then you can get many cookbooks in an e-book format. You can actually even borrow e-books from your local library, and there are many free e-books available on Amazon.

You can also get many free recipes online and print them out. If you have more than a few favorites, then get a 3-ring binder and make your own cookbook with your printouts. This is especially useful if you have people asking for a recipe – you can easily take it out of the notebook and make a photocopy.

Let Your Pantry Be Your Guide

You’ll also want to look in your pantry and cupboards to see what you have available. You can make some excellent combinations or even just get some good ideas by checking out your pantry.

Once you have decided what to make, be sure that you have everything that you need to prepare the meal you wish to cook.  If you do not have the needed ingredients you will have to make a shopping list and go to the store to get what you need to finish a recipe.

If you type in some of the main ingredients you have available into the search bar, you will get results back with some dishes that include those ingredients. This can be a great time-saver if you don’t have time to go to the store before you need to start cooking.

Work on Your Timing

When you are ready to prepare your meal, keep into account the time you need for prep work. This includes preparing the side dishes and main dish. Good time management is something you need to learn when you want to be a good cook. This is so you’ll get everything done in time without having to worry about ruining the food that you’re preparing. Personally, I set multiple alarms with my Alexa device so I can keep myself on schedule.

Ask for Help if You Need it

If you find that you still need help in learning to cook you may want to consult a family friend or family member to help you.  You may also want to consider taking a cooking class as they can be very helpful in helping beginners learn to cook. If you are lucky enough to have a Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, or other relative who is an amazing cook, don’t be too shy to ask for help.

Thanks for Reading

If you’re a beginner that is wondering how to get started learning how to cook it is really much simpler than you think.  Before you know it with some practice you will be preparing delicious meals for your friends and family to enjoy.

DealDash Cooks: Using a Pizza Stone

DealDash

DealDash loves to cook. Here are some tips and tricks for using a pizza stone to cook.

Are you are looking for a great way to prepare a pizza? You are really missing out if you have not tried using a pizza stone. Also, while some might be intimidated by a pizza stone is actually simpler than you think. Here are some simple tips and information for using a pizza stone, from DealDash.

Be Sure to Pre-Heat

Firstly, depending on where you have purchased your stone you are going to want to preheat it. It will not hurt the pizza stone and will actually help to better prepare the food that you are cooking on the stone. Just place the pizza stone in the oven when it is at the same temperature as the kitchen then preheat it. Please don’t put the pizza stone in the oven if it has been sitting somewhere colder than room temperature such as the fridge. This can cause the stone to crack.

After it has been preheated you can take it out of the oven, place the food on it, and prepare as directed. Also good to note – you can prepare other food on it than pizza. If you can bake it, you can use a pizza stone on it. Additionally, it can be easier to clean than a baking pan.

Season it With Oil

It’s rare for foods to stick to your pizza stone. However, you will want to be sure to season it using cooking oil. Also, you should repeat this practice every few times that you make use of the pizza stone. Additionally, you also do not want the stone to change temperature too quickly. This can cause the stone to crack.

Next, it is also not recommended to clean your pizza stone with soap and water. Reason being, this will cause soap to collect in the stone. Simply put the stone in the oven to bake off the food you prepared on it. Next, scrape off the food particles and re-season the stone. This will keep your pizza stone clean and sparkling.

Thanks for Reading

These tips will help you be prepared when you first use your pizza stone. If you take the time to take good care of your pizza stone you can enjoy using it for years to come. It is definitely worth the investment if you are looking for a  great way to prepare foods in your oven, or even on your grill!

DealDash Cooks: Avoid These Mistakes

DealDash

Want your meals to turn out amazingly? Then avoid these mistakes, from DealDash.

When you are cooking one little mistake can turn a delightful dish into something that nobody wants to eat. You need to be careful to avoid cooking mistakes. This will help make sure that your meals turn out the way that you want them to turn out. The following are a few mistakes to avoid while you are preparing your next meal. Read on for more information from DealDash.

Heat Up That Oil

Making use of oil that has not been heated properly is a big cooking mistake to avoid. You will see that if you put food into a pot of oil that hasn’t been heated to the correct temperature your food will be really heavy and full of oil. Now if you were to heat your oil to the right temperature your food will be crisp and much lighter making it much more appetizing.

Don’t Overload the Pan

If you put too much food in your pan you will be committing another common cooking mistake. You need to be sure that if you need to cook a large portion of food you use a large enough pan or you make use of two pans so that all the food that you are going to be cooking will be prepared properly.

Make it Fresh

Another very common cooking mistake that many people make is using dried instead of fresh herbs. Now while dried herbs are much more convenient they do not taste the same as a bunch of fresh herbs would taste. Dried herbs are much stronger than fresh and will likely not give you the taste you are looking for especially if you are using a lot of dried herbs in your dish.

Thanks for Reading the Blog

These are just a few of the mistakes that you can make when cooking. You can make sure that your meals taste great by making sure to avoid mistakes like these while you are cooking. Remember, the extra ingredient is care!

DealDash Recipe: Chicken Tacos & Pomegranate Salsa

Image result for pomegranate salsa

Tacos and pomegranates are delicious – why not put them together and make an awesome meal that your family will love? Read on for the recipe, from DealDash.

I have always been a huge fan of tacos, but I had never even tried a pomegranate until I was 30 years old! It was definitely love at first taste, though, and I have been buying them regularly ever since. I had originally thought as a pomegranate as a stand-alone food, something to snack on like other fresh fruits like grapes. After doing a little research, though, it turns out that pomegranates are delightful in many different recipes of varying styles and tastes. Here is just one recipe for chicken tacos and pomegranate salsa, from DealDash.

Let’s Get Cooking!

Ingredients:

  • 1 tsp. ground cumin
  • ½ tsp. garlic powder
  • ¼ tsp. chipotle chili powder
  • salt and pepper (to taste)
  • 1 tbsp. olive oil
  • 2 large boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 2 scallions
  • 1 large avocado
  • ¼ c. pomegranate seeds
  • 1 tbsp. fresh lime juice
  • ½ c. fresh cilantro leaves
  • 8 small flour tortillas
  • sour cream

Directions:

  1. Pre-heat oven to 425 degrees. Line a rimmed baking sheet with foil.
  2. In a bowl, combine the cumin, garlic, chili powders, and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
  3. Heat the oil in a medium skillet over medium heat. Season the chicken with the spice mixture you just made in the bowl and cook until browned, 2 to 3 minutes per side.
  4. Transfer the chicken to the baking sheet and roast until cooked through, approximately 8 minutes, or a few minutes longer if they are thick.
  5. While the chicken is in the oven, in a medium bowl, gently toss together the scallions, avocado, pomegranate seeds, lime juice, and 1/4 teaspoon each salt and pepper, lastly, fold in the cilantro.
  6. Slice the chicken into 1/4-inch-thick pieces. Fill the tortillas with the chicken and top with the pomegranate salsa. Serve with sour cream on the side.

It’s Time to Eat!

Doesn’t that sound delicious? If you happen to live in an area where it’s uncommon to see pomegranates in the supermarket fruits and vegetable section, then check the refrigerated section as well. They often have pomegranate seeds that have already been removed from the rind for sale. They are more expensive this way, but they are still fresh and delicious and will work well in this recipe.

DealDash on Cooking Vegetarian

DealDash cooks vegetarian

Meatless Monday is a very popular trend. You don’t have to be a vegetarian to cook a delicious vegetarian meal.

Have you ever participated in Meatless Monday? Many families who aren’t vegetarian like to participate in this trend for many reasons such as to be healthier and to save money. However, cooking vegetarian isn’t just making a salad. There are lots of different things that you can do to make your meatless meals more tasty and appetizing for your family.

Start Slow

You don’t want to scare your family off with anything too “out of the ordinary” at first. You might already be making some wonderful vegetarian meals without even thinking about it. Many pasta dishes can be just as delicious without the meat, such as lasagna or pasta roll-ups with ricotta cheese and noodles – delicious!

There are other ways to go meatless without completely giving up the taste and feel of meat. There are many meat-replacement products available at the store. These include substitutes for beef, chicken, and shellfish.

Go With the Seasons

I will be the first to admit that I really hate canned and frozen vegetables. They just taste old and stale to me. However, buying lots of fresh fruits and vegetables can be very expensive if you buy them out of season. Shopping and eating seasonally will be easier on your budget as well as taste delicious. If you are trying to save money, you won’t really be saving any if you end up throwing a lot of the food away simply because it doesn’t taste good, or your family doesn’t like it. My husband is a real stickler for not throwing food away, so I try to always buy the freshest and best-looking produce that I can find to minimize waste.

Get the Whole Family Involved

Cooking vegetarian meals without getting your family on board first can be difficult if they are used to eating a lot of meat. If you can recruit the rest of the family to assist you in choosing the meals, shopping at the supermarket, and helping prepare and cook the food they will be more likely to eat it. Remember, you won’t really be doing their health or your wallet any favors if they don’t want to eat the meals that you have prepared, even if they are vegetarian. Remember, start this gradually, and before you know it your family might occasionally request a few of their favorite vegetarian meals that you have introduced them to.

DealDash Cooks With Olive Oil

dealdash olive oil

Olive oil is heart healthy and delicious. However, some people prefer to cook with butter or even canola oil. Let DealDash persuade you to use olive oil.

Do you prefer to cook a dish with canola oil, butter or olive oil? That is a question that many home cooks ask themselves when they are preparing to make a dish. I have often asked myself in the past which would be the best oil got the job, and a conundrum that I have seen on competition cooking shows such as Chopped. This is also a topic of discussion that I have seen on talk shows and in magazines as well. Let DealDash show you the best oil for the job. Hint – it’s olive oil!

The Best Oil for the Job

When you are cooking with high heat, most oils will dissipate. This makes butter seem like the better alternative if you are just looking for a quick answer. That might be the case at times, but olive oil will not dissipate like other oils such as canola or vegetable oil. It is also a much healthier alternative to the unhealthy and fatty stick of butter that you were thinking about for your dish.

Most people in this day in age want to cook as healthily as possible for their families. Gone are the days when butter or even Crisco was a staple in every meal that was cooked at home. Olive oil is a much better alternative; it has a wonderfully light and delicious taste as well as being significantly healthier.

How Can Olive Oil Be Healthy?

Olive oil might have some fats, but luckily for us olive oil connoisseurs, they have been proven to be the healthy varieties of fat. These fats in small doses will not negatively affect your health as long as you are eating a balanced diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

Though the fats in olive oil are the healthy variety, moderation should be exercised with everything in life, and that applies to the olive oil vs. butter dilemma as well. Too much of anything is usually unhealthy, so use your common sense in the kitchen when you are preparing your recipes.

Olive Oil Contains Antioxidants

Another excellent win for olive oil when it comes to health is is the fact that olive oil contains antioxidants. If you are unfamiliar with antioxidants, antioxidants help prevent or stop cell damage caused by oxidants. Your body does not produce antioxidant vitamins naturally, so it is important to include antioxidants in your diet, be it through foods or supplements. Other foods that contain antioxidants are blueberries, cranberries, and pecans.

Ditch the Butter Stick

There are many reasons why olive oil is a better choice than butter in a dish. Butter is full of fat, and there are no positive health aspects to the addition of butter in your home cooked dishes. It provides flavor, but at an unfortunate cost to your health.

When using olive oil instead of butter, the positives outweigh the negatives. I find that in my experience in the kitchen, using olive oil can make some dishes much more tasty and exciting.

Olive Oil Garlic Bread, Anyone?

Try making some delicious homemade garlic bread with olive oil. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees, sprinkle some olive oil and garlic salt on the bread, and put it in the oven. You can enjoy the results in about 8 minutes. It’s delicious and heart healthy as well. Enjoy!

DealDash Recipe – Mushroom Risotto

DealDash Mushroom Risotto

Mushroom risotto is not only delicious but very versatile as well. Here is a yummy recipe from DealDash.

Risotto is a delicious Italian rice dish that is easily customized to your taste once you get the optimal technique down. This isn’t your garden variety white rice which cooks without any babysitting needed in a rice cooker. Risotto needs to be stirred and watched the entire time it is on the stove. The result is worth it, though. Mushroom risotto is a rich, creamy, and textured rice that can be served as an appetizer, main course, or side dish. Here is a recipe from DealDash for you to enjoy.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups arborio rice.
  • 1 lb sliced portobello and/or crimini mushrooms
  • 1 small onion
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 tablespoon of butter
  • 3 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 6-8 cups of chicken, vegetable, or beef broth
  • 1/2-1 cup dry white wine, like a Sauvignon Blanc
  • Salt & Pepper, to taste

Directions

  1. Heat 3 tablespoons olive oil in your largest skillet on medium heat.
  2. Dice 1 small onion and 2 cloves of garlic and add to the oil.
  3. Remove stems, and thinly slice your mushrooms while the onions & garlic cook.
  4. Add the mushrooms to the skillet after 3-4 minutes
  5. Add salt and pepper and stir to coat the mushrooms in oil.
  6. Using a sauce pot, heat up 6 cups of broth while the mushrooms are cooking. Do not heat all the way to boiling.
  7. Cook the mushrooms for 3-5 minutes
  8. Add 1 tablespoon of butter
  9. Add the 2 cups of arborio rice and constantly stir. Once the butter has melted, add the rice and stir so that it is coated with the oil and butter. Cook for 1 minute before adding any liquid.
  10. Add 1/2 cup of white wine. Add the white wine and stir into the rice. Cook together until almost all of the wine is evaporated or absorbed into the rice.
  11. Add one ladle of hot broth. Once the wine is absorbed, use a ladle to add the first cup of broth to the rice mixture
  12. Constantly stir the broth and rice. You cannot stir risotto enough.
  13. Add another cup of broth once the first has been absorbed. Once most of the broth has been absorbed by the rice, add another cup.
  14. Repeat until the broth is gone or the rice is your desired consistency. The rice should be slightly firm and creamy, but never mushy.
  15. Repeat until the broth is gone or the rice is your desired consistency. The rice should be slightly firm and creamy, but not mushy.

Delicious and Versatile

You can add any extra ingredients that you would like to the mushroom risotto such as cheese, truffle oil, spices, or even meat to bulk it up into a main course. See how versatile it is?

DealDash Bakes Delicious Bread

Image result for bake bread

Who doesn’t love fresh, hot from the oven baked bread? Baking bread doesn’t have to be difficult.

Now that the holidays are over and you have more time on your hands it’s time to expand your cooking horizons. Cook more from scratch than buying premade at the supermarket is a great way to know exactly what you’re putting into your body. Here’s a tip – it’s also a great way to save money, as cooking from scratch can be cheaper once you have purchased the basic ingredients, and can get many batches out of them. Now let’s bake some bread with DealDash!

White Bread Ingredients:

Makes 2 loaves

  • 2 teaspoons active-dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 cup milk – 2%, or skim is best for counting your calories
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 5 1/2 – 6 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

You also need a stand mixer, a large mixing bowl

Directions:

  • Pour the water into the bowl of a standing mixer or large mixing bowl and sprinkle the yeast over top. Let this stand for 5 minutes until the yeast is dissolved.
  • Melt the butter in the microwave, slowly stir in the milk, sugar, and salt.
  • Pour 1 cup of flour and the milk mixture over the yeast.
  • Stir with the stand mixer until this comes together in a texture similar to brownie batter
  • Add another 4 1/2 cups of flour, reserving the remaining cup if the dough is sticky during kneading.
  • Stir until a floury dough is formed.
  • Swap out the mixing attachment for the dough hook attachment on a standing mixer, then knead the dough for 8-10 minutes. If you don’t have a dough hook attachment for your stand mixer you can knead this dough by hand.
  • The dough is done when it feels smooth, slightly tacky, and can form a ball without sagging. If the dough is too sticky when mixing, you can add flour a tablespoon or so at a time until it’s tacky, not sticky.
  • Using another bowl, lightly coat the bowl with a little oil. Form the dough into a ball and rotate it in the bowl to coat the dough ball with oil.
  • Cover the bowl and let the dough rise in a warm spot until doubled in bulk. This will take approximately one hour.
  • Sprinkle a little flour on your counter workspace and place the dough on it, dividing the dough in two and shape each into a loose ball. Let these rest on the counter for a few minutes.
  • Shape each ball of dough into a loaf, place them on pre-greased loaf pans. It’s important that the surface of the loaves be stretched taut; this helps them rise. Let the loaves rise a second time until they start to dome over the edge of the pan, this will take approximately minutes.
  • While your dough is rising, heat the oven to 425° F
  • Cut a line down the center of the tops of the loaves with a serrated knife and put them in the oven. Immediately turn down the heat to 375°F and bake for 30-35 minutes.
  • Remove the loaves from the pans and let them cool completely before slicing.

I hope that you enjoy your home-baked bread! This bread is delicious and easy to make once you have done it a few times. If you need any items for your kitchen such as a stand mixer check DealDash. DealDash has everything for your kitchen including KitchenAid mixers. Visit DealDash Now.

This is the season for get-togethers with friends and family. Let’s make some snacks!

This is definitely the season where it’s normal to have extra people at your house, whether it’s your cousins from out-of-state, or your neighbors from down the street. If they’re there, you’re going to need to feed them. What can you whip up that will feed multiple people? Read on, and I will give you some ideas for some snacks that are easy to make and will satisfy your guests.

If you and your friends are on the healthier side, and nachos aren’t really your thing, you can prepare a delicious fruit salad instead. Even though the nachos were easy, the fruit salad is even easier. One of the best things about fruit salad is that there are no rules. You can combine just about any type of fruit that you would like, cut into small pieces, toss it together, and call it a fruit salad. Here are some ideas of what fruits to include in your fruit salad:

  • watermelon
  • honeydew melon
  • grapes
  • pineapple
  • apple
  • pomegranate seeds
  • orange segments
  • kiwi
  • blackberries
  • raspberries
  • blueberries

After you have made your fruit salad, you can keep it looking fresh for longer if you give a quick squeeze of lemon juice all over the top. Delicious! You can also make a sauce for this fruit salad by combining orange juice, a teaspoon of vanilla, a squeeze of lemon, just a dash of cinnamon, and 2 tablespoons of brown sugar. Put all of the sauce ingredients in a saucepan, and let simmer for about 5 minutes. Let it cool, and then pour it over the fruit salad. I personally don’t think that it needs a sauce, but if you would like to jazz it up, try the sauce!

DealDash Fosters Good Eating Habits

Image result for good eating habits

Being a parent means that you sometimes have to make difficult choices for your kids, even if they don’t agree with you.

If you’re a busy parent like myself, sometimes it’s easy to let healthy eating habits fall by the wayside when things get busy at home. Grabbing pizza or a burger on the way home is quicker and easier than making a home-cooked meal after a long day of school, work, sports, and other after-school activities – not to mention homework! While grabbing a quick meal out occasionally won’t hurt anyone, it’s a good idea not to get in the habit.

If your kids are old enough to have homework, sports, and after-school activities they are old enough to help you prep and cook simple (and even complex!) meals at home. As the old idiom says, “many hands make light work”. As long as you have adequate counter space there’s not a reason in the world why your kids ages 5+ can’t help you prepare dinner.

The way to lead kids down a road of healthy eating habits is modelling – by you and the other trusted adults that they know. The more adults that they love and trust that they see eating healthy fruits and veggies, lean meats, and whole grains eating, the more they will want to emulate them. In turn, emulation will become habit, and you will have given your kids the gift of healthy eating habits. That’s a gift that can last a lifetime.

In addition to your kids helping prepare dinner, they can also help you make the week’s meal plan. For younger kids, give a few healthy choices and let them pick. For older kids you can see what they come up with on their own, and be there to guide them if they go astray into the land of junk food.

If you’re going to be doing all of this extra cooking with your children, you’re going to need more kitchen supplies. DealDash has any kitchen supplies that you might need including pots & pans, fun plates, trivets, and more. Check out DealDash for all of your kitchen needs. DealDash Roasts Pumpkin Seeds

Image result for pumpkin seeds

Since you are probably carving your pumpkins around this time, I figured it was time for a roasted pumpkin seed recipe.

Roasted pumpkin seeds are absolutely delicious, a healthy snack, and fun to make. What’s not to love? You can roast your pumpkin seeds with a basic recipe like the one below, or you can always get creative and add ingredients such as cinnamon and sugar, cayenne pepper, oil and vinegar, cocoa…The varieties are  practically endless! Basically, any kind of seasoning that you might add to chips would taste great on roasted pumpkin seeds. Now on to the recipe…

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 Cups raw pumpkin seeds, cleaned and dried
  • 2 Tbs melted butter
  • 1/8 tsp salt

Directions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 300 degrees F
  2. Toss seeds in a bowl with the melted butter and salt.
  3. Spread the seeds in a single layer on a baking sheet and bake for about 45 minutes or until golden brown; stir occasionally.

See, isn’t that simple?? These seeds make such a great base to add extra seasonings and flavors. You can also do a lot with these seeds after they have been roasted, such as:

  • Add the seeds as a topping for a salad instead of croutons
  • Add the seeds in a home-made trail mix with granola and dried fruit
  • Put them in tiny bags for your kid’s snack at school
  • Bring them with you when you’re out to avoid buying costly and fattening snacks
  • Bake them into cookies or brownies

I am in love with these roasted pumpkin seeds, and I look forward to carving the pumpkins with the kids every year so I can make these yummy roasted pumpkin seeds.

DealDash Cooks: Zucchini Noodles

Image result for zucchini noodles

Veggie spiral slicers have been all the rage this past summer, and making zucchini noodle “pasta” has never been easier. Here is a delicious recipe for Zucchini “Pasta” with meatballs.

I never thought that I would be a supporter of zucchini pasta, but here we are in 2016, and I am here to say that it’s pretty good! If you are trying to get healthier and are counting carbs, then zucchini pasta is the way to go. It’s significantly easier to make zucchini pasta with a spiral veggie cutter than making it by hand, but you can use whichever method that you feel comfortable with. And FYI, those spiral veggie cutters are very affordably gotten at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. Don’t forget to use your 20% off coupon that you can find on their website, as well as using a Bed, Bath, and Beyond gift card from DealDash!

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb. ground beef (I like the 97/3, but use whatever you like)
  • 1/4 Cup Italian seasoned dry breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 Cup Parmesan cheese
  • 1 Cup Provolone cheese, grated
  • 10 grape (or cherry) tomatoes sliced in half
  • 2 garlic cloves, cleaned and minced
  • 2 Tbs extra-virgin olive oil, divided
  • 1 jar tomato pasta sauce (I like Ragu Super Chunky Mushroom, myself)
  • 1 can mushrooms (drained)
  • 4 medium zucchini, cut into noodles
  • Salt and Pepper

Directions:

  1. Combine beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Parmesan, approximately 1 garlic clove, and 1/2 teaspoon each salt and pepper in a bowl. Form into 12 –  2″) beef meatballs.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add beef meatballs and cook, turning occasionally, until brown on all sides, approximately 5 minutes.
  3. Reduce heat to medium-low and gently stir in pasta sauce and mushrooms. Simmer, turning meatballs occasionally, until meatballs are cooked through, approximately 15 minutes.
  4. While sauce is simmering, heat 1 Tbs oil in a medium skillet over medium-high heat. Add zucchini noodles, tomatoes, and remaining minced garlic and cook until just tender, approximately 3 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Serve meatballs over noodles topped with Provolone and Parmesan cheese.

Yum, yum, yum! I am getting hungry just thinking about it. You can also add a nice side salad with Italian dressing to this, and make it a great meal. You can get some great new kitchen items from DealDash, as well as Bed, Bath, and Beyond gift cards. Simply visit DealDash at this link. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!

DealDash Dinner as a Family

Most people would agree that eating dinner as a family is important. However, with today’s busy schedules it’s hard to find the time.

With all of the soccer games, one or both parents working late, and tons of homework it’s hard to eat dinner together. However, since it’s important you and your family should schedule family dinner on your calendars at least once per week, but preferably more. Write it in on the calendar just as you would any other appointment, and stick to it!

Preparing dinner, setting the table, and cleaning up after dinner should not be left for one person to do. Ideally everyone would work together to prepare dinner, set things up, and clear it all away and wash the dishes. Or if your family is planning on doing regular weekly family dinners then it might make more sense for you to pick one or two people to be responsible for everything one week, and then swap the next week. The way to get everyone involved would be to pair an adult or teenager with a younger family member so everyone can get used to all of the work that goes into preparing dinner for everyone. After all, they will have their own families to take care of one day.

Finally, when the dinner is on everyone’s plates don’t just eat and ignore each other, share your day. Ask questions about other family member’s days. Discuss future plans together, brainstorm answers to problems, get to know what’s going on in each other’s lives. Children and teenagers who feel like their parents really listen to them are less likely to get into trouble because they want their parents to be proud of them, they don’t want to be a disappointment. It’s important, trust me.

DealDash Cooks: Two Soy Sauce Pork

Do you love to cook? I am not a great cook myself, but my Mother-in-Law sure is! Here is one of the dishes that she makes for us.

My Mother-in-Law is a wonderful lady who immigrated to this country when she was in her early 20s – and she is a fantastic cook. She has been here quite a long time, but her most delicious dishes always have Chinese roots. Here is “Two Soy Sauce Pork.”

Ingredients:

  • Pork – Approximately 1 pork chop per family member or equivalent in “country-style” pork. This recipe is for 4 pork chops cut off of their bones.
  • Light soy sauce (1/2 cup)
  • Dark Soy sauce (1/2 cup)
  • Ginger root, sliced in chunks (to taste)
  • Sugar (1/2 Tablespoon)
  • Garlic powder (1 Tablespoon)
  • Salt (1/4 Tablespoon)
  • Pepper (1/4 Tablespoon)
  • Corn starch (enough to coat pork)
  • Canola oil  (enough to coat pan)
Instructions:
  • Cut the pork off of the bone, cut off the large pieces of fat
  • Cut pork into smaller chunks, approximately 1″x2″s
  • Put the pork into a bowl and mix in both soy sauces, ginger, sugar, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Mix well until all of the pork is coated
  • Put in the corn starch, and mix well until all of the pork is coated

Heat up the oil in your pan and cook the pork on medium heat until both sides are a darker brown, approximately 4 minutes per side. Discard ginger, and enjoy!

If you have made too much of the ingredient mixture you can store the marinated pork in the fridge for 2-3 days before cooking. DealDash often has food storage containers that would be perfect for saving the marinated pork in your fridge. Be sure to wash your containers as soon as you are done using them, though. Soy sauce tends to stain containers when left sitting too long.

If you need new pots, pans, or any other kitchen implement head on over to DealDash. They have absolutely everything that you need for your kitchen in the “Kitchen and Dining” section. Check it out at this link here. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!
