Making a scrapbook is a great way for your child to learn more about their family. You can tell them stories from when they were younger or about you and your spouse before they were born. Photos are a great way to remember the past and keep great memories close to their hearts. The great thing about scrapbooks is that they don’t necessarily need to be about family. They can be about a fun trip or even about a family pet.   So plan for at least an hour or two of working with your kids on the scrapbook that you plan on making. This is also a great way to tell your kids about people in the family that they never got to meet or they don’t see very often.

What’s Important to Your Kids?

Making scrapbooks allows your kids to think about things that are important to them. From family to friends there are a whole lot of people, places, and things that your kids can put into a scrapbook. It really gives them the opportunity to save valuable things in a fun and creative way. Maybe they would like to make a scrapbook of a special trip, or even of a whole school year.

You can incorporate these twig words into a picture frame as well. You could try spelling out “Family”, “Sisters”, “Best Friends” or whatever your child wants. There are a lot of materials like bark and twigs that can be used to make a really cool and functional home or feeder for birds. You can not only get the enjoyment of creating something with your kids but also get the enjoyment of watching the birds enjoy your creation. Don’t forget to put birdseed into your birdhouse or feeder. The birds will be much more likely to come visit you if you remember to do this step.

Paint Pet Rocks

Making pet rocks is another very simple and fun nature craft that you can do with your kids. You can again let your imagination take over as there are many cool animals or even monsters that you can create with different shaped rocks. DealDash Cleans: Tips for Hardwood Floors

DealDash

Hardwood floors are beautiful when they’re clean. Here are some tips from DealDash to keep them looking great.

Over the years hardwood floors have become more popular then carpet floors. Apartments and homes are now being purchased with hardwood floors. Keeping your hardwood floors clean is very important. You want to make sure that your hardwood floor is shiny and dirt free. Many people don’t know how to clean their hardwood floors the proper way. Here are 3 tips for cleaning hardwood floors, from DealDash.

Make Sure You Vacuum Daily

Vacuuming every day is very important for cleanliness. It helps to get rid of the dirt that comes on the hardwood floors. Sometimes vacuuming can take up a lot of time, so if you don’t have time to vacuum you can use a dust mop to remove the dirt. This will help speed up the process of cleaning your hardwood floor instead of vacuuming. If you would like to vacuum your floors effortlessly, then pick up a robotic vacuum from DealDash. I absolutely love mine and have it programmed to vacuum every morning.

Always Dust

It has been recommended to dust a hardwood floor regularly. It is easy for dust to build up faster on hardwood floors than on a carpet. You should use a mop that has a dusting agent on it or an electrostatic cloth. This can keep things clean between your annual deep cleaning of your hardwood floor. Dusting is such a simple task that you can have your kids or grandkids do it for you. My daughter who is 6 doesn’t mind helping me dust and is very proud of herself when she completes her task.

Make Some Tea

A lot of people don’t know that tea can help keep your hardwood floors clean. All you need is boiling water and two tea bags. Make yourself a cup of tea and then pour it on the hardwood floor. Tea contains tannic acid which helps create a beautiful shiny hardwood floor. Something simple as making a cup of tea will help make a difference in the appearance of your floor. Of course, if you have a lighter wood floor, such as birch wood, then you will want to test and small an inconspicuous area first before you use tea on the entire floor.

Thanks for Reading

Keeping your hardwood floors clean is very important. These tips will help you maintain the cleanliness of your floors. No one likes to come home to a dirty hardwood floor. Impress your guests and your family by maintaining a spick and span hardwood floor.

Learn Patience

If your child isn’t used to coloring within the lines of their coloring pages doing so can teach them patience. It will be a great experience for them to learn to carefully color within the lines so that they can create a beautiful picture. Even the most high-strung child can learn how to enjoy a little bit of silence and calm by using coloring pages.

Relieve Stress

Using coloring pages can be a very relaxing pastime that can ease the stress of being in school or being active at play for an extended period of time. It is also a great change of pace from being in front of a computer or a video game. Coloring is relaxing and is good for an active learning brain to slow down for a moment and relax.

Coloring together using coloring pages can be a great way to spend some time together. Coloring is very relaxing and can be a great activity to do when you want to catch up on things like what your child did in school that day. As your child’s skill develops you will find that their confidence will grow as well. Encouraging them to try their best when coloring will really help their confidence when taking part in this activity as well. So be sure to tell them what a great job they are doing with their coloring skills. Don’t make a big deal if they go outside of the lines, let them know that everyone makes mistakes sometimes. Just encourage them to try their best.

DealDash: Indoor Winter Activities for Kids

DealDash

Winter is coming! Here are some fun activities for your kids to do inside, from DealDash.

With the weather getting cooler parents are no doubt trying to think of activities for their kids to do indoors. It’s important to keep the kids entertained. Here are a few fun activities that you can do with your kids the next time that it is too cold to be outside, from DealDash.

Make a Treasure Hunt

You can plan a treasure hunt for your kids to do indoors. It doesn’t need to be anything too complex, just a few clues for them to guess the different locations in the house that they need to find. Once they complete the treasure hunt they can get their prize.

When thinking about a prize, you can make the prize another fun activity for them to do, such as baking cookies together. Another fun activity that could be the prize is ingredients to make slime.

Let’s Finger Paint!

Finger painting is a great choice for little kids that need something to do indoors. You can set up an area in the kitchen for them to create their masterpieces to minimize the mess and just let them get creative. There are all kinds of paints that you can purchase for finger painting or you can even make your own for another fun project. The two main traits that you want your finger paint to possess are being non-toxic and washable.

For Older Kids, Try Puzzles & Board Games

Puzzles and board games are another fun option on colder days when you can’t go play outside. There are all kinds of puzzles and board games for all ages so you are sure to be able to find something that your kids will enjoy playing. It is a great pastime to do together as a family. Some of the favorites at my house include Trouble and matching games.

Get Creative With Picture Collages

Making picture collages is a fun way for you kids to express their creativity. You can make collages from pictures that you have taken or you can take pictures out of magazines and news papers for your kids to get creative with for their collage. One of my favorite ways to get pictures for my kid’s collages is by using my Fuji Instax 8. It takes instant pictures just like an old-fashioned Polaroid camera, except they are much smaller.

Thanks for Reading the Blog

Finding something for your kids to do when it is too cold to get outside can seem really difficult but it doesn’t need to be. With a little creative thinking, you can come up with some great ideas like the ones mentioned above that will keep your kids occupied for hours.

DealDash Gets Crafty With Kids

DealDash

Crafting is a fun thing to do with your children. Here are some of the advantages, from DealDash.

It can seem like a never ending struggle to pry your children away from their electronic devices like iPads and video games. It often seems like nothing is more interesting then what is on the TV or computer screen. One thing that you can do in order to get them doing something else is by sparking their creativity with craft kits. Here are many advantages to purchasing craft kits for your kids. Here are a few, from DealDash.

Save Time With Kits

Buying craft kits for your kids is going to end up saving you time. You will not have to spend more time than you need in the store looking for all of the needed items for the craft that they want to make. You will get everything thing that you need in one package. If you need additional tools for the craft kit it is likely something you already have in your home, such as scissors or glue. Be sure to look on the box of the kit before you leave the store to know exactly what else is needed, if anything. That way you can pick it up while you’re already at the store. You will avoid disappointed children by taking an extra moment to check the box.

Create a New Interest or Hobby

You will be able to foster an interest or new hobby by doing crafts with your children. Your children will love it when you get them craft kits. If your child likes fashion they may have a great time with a jewelry making kit. Maybe they enjoy cars or trains and you can get them a model craft kit so they can design their own vehicle. The possibilities are pretty well endless when it comes to craft kits, so they are a great way to steer interest away from the screen time and into something that could turn into a lifelong hobby.

Craft Kits Can Save Money

One of the best parts of getting craft kits for your kids is that it is going to save you money as well as storage space in your home. This is because you are only purchasing exactly what you need for the crafts and nothing more. You will not have to worry about crafting items cluttering up your home or having to purchase a large package of supplies only to use very little. This is especially useful if it’s for a craft item that you probably won’t use again such as feathers or lip gloss containers.

Thanks for Reading

Buying crafts kits for your kids is a great way to way to occupy their mind with something that is both fun and creative. So the next time you are thinking about getting your kids away from too much screen time you should consider getting them a craft kit to work on. Not only that, craft kits are fun to do with your kids as a bonding experience.

DealDash’s Fun Ideas for the Weekend

DealDash

Hello, weekend! It’s Saturday morning, do you have anything fun planned? If not, read on for some tips and ideas from DealDash.

What’s your favorite thing to do on weekends? Typically my family does something with the kids in the afternoon, then we go out to dinner at night. It’s fun for them, and it’s fun for me because I don’t have to cook and clean up two days per week! There are still a few weekends left before my kids go back to school, so we are going to pack in some fun activities. If you need some suggestions to get out of the house, here are some suggestions from DealDash.

Nature Walks

My family loves to be outside, but since the baby and I have very pale skin we are quite sensitive to the sun. We can get our “outdoors fix” by going on nature walks. The trees provide a nice cover from the sun, the kids get to look at cute furry animals, and we all get some exercise. Nature walks are one of those wonderful times that the kids can learn things without even realize that they are learning! This isn’t so important for my daughter who loves to learn, but my son is very “anti-school”, so it’s great for him to learn without realizing he’s doing it!

The Beach (with a Tent)

My husband and older kids love the beach. Me, not so much because of the aforementioned sun aversion. However, since we love doing things as a family, occasionally we will go to the beach. There is a lovely island beach that’s just a ferry ride away, and as luck would have it, they rent sun cabanas! So if you are sensitive to the sun like me, or have small kids that you don’t want in the harsh rays, don’t despair! You can purchase your own mini sun cabana online and bring it with you, or you can rent one. Since I have discovered the sun cabana, the summer has gotten a lot more fun.

Street Festivals

Depending on where you live, you might be able to catch a street festival going on this weekend. Where I live, in Boston, there are many small towns around me, and I am typically able to find a street festival to attend every weekend. There are music festivals, craft festivals, ethnic food festivals, kid’s festivals, and so many more! My personal favorite is the craft festival, but my husband loves the ethnic food festivals. There’s something for everyone when you go to a street festival!

DealDash Crafts: Paint a T-Shirt

DealDash

June is the season for crafting a painted t-shirt. Graduation and Father’s Day are both excellent occasions. Here are some ideas and tips from DealDash.

There are lots of reasons that you might want to custom paint your own t-shirt, graduation and Father’s Day are only two examples. T-shirt painting is a great way to turn a plain t-shirt into something creative and unique. There are a few different ways of painting t-shirts, from free-handing to using stencils to spray painting! Here are some suggestions.

Prepare Your Canvas and Work Area

After buying your plain shirt be sure to wash it. This will remove any potential starch or stiffener that might prevent the paint from sticking properly. After your shirt has been prepared then gather up your materials. Depending on which type of painting method you’re going to use you will need different materials. However, for all of them it would be wise to spread out newspaper on your working surface and have water and paper towels handy. You’ll also want to have a stencil or a good idea of what you want to paint on your shirt.

Let’s Paint!

  • First, you’ll want to put something inside the t-shirt such as another sheet of newspaper, a magazine, or a piece of cardboard. This will prevent the paint from bleeding onto the back side of the shirt.
  • Take your stencil and use a Sharpie to trace the design onto the t-shirt. If you’d rather skip the stencil and just draw your outline on the shirt, that’s fine as well.
  • Using fabric paint and a paintbrush color in your design. If you would like your t-shirt to have more depth and creativity, then do multiple layers of paint, starting with the background. Let it dry then paint the foreground.
  • Don’t remove the newspaper or cardboard inside the shirt until the paint is completely dry. Otherwise, it will bleed onto the backside of the shirt.
  • When you wash your shirt be sure to turn it inside out first and use the gentle cycle. After washing you should either lay it flat to dry or hang it up to dry. Either is fine.
  • If you’re not that wonderful with a paintbrush, then you can try using the fabric paint that are in little squeeze bottles. You may have more luck because they can be a little easier to control than a paint brush.

DealDash and the Festive Smell

Image result for simmer pot ingredients No matter what kind of house you live in, I bet you want it to smell yummy. Here is a guide on fall simmer pots from DealDash.

I don’t know about you, but I end up cleaning my house myself most of the time, and one of the things that I like to do is make the air smell yummy and clean.  I have found quite a few handy tips and tricks through the years to make the house smell good – from chemicals to candles to natural methods. Here are a few helpful hints from DealDash.

Around this time of year the air in the house tends to get a little stale due to no windows being opened, and people opening and shutting the doors as fast as possible to keep out the chilly weather. There’s a way to freshen up the air in your house without too much effort – simmer pots!

Making a simmer pot is extremely easy. There are two basic methods – on the stove or in a crock pot. Both have their positives and negatives, let’s talk about both methods.

To make a simmer pot on the stove you just need to combine the ingredients together, fill the pot with water, and simmer away. The idea is to simmer the pot all day, adding more water as needed. This way gets the maximum scent, and also has the added benefit of extremely easy clean up. However, if you have small kids, pets that jump onto the counter, or a gas stove – this method is not for you.

Making a simmer pot using a crock pot is easy and you can let it simmer all day without even having to watch it, other than to just check in occasionally to make sure that it doesn’t need any more water. I don’t feel that this method spreads around as much scent, but it’s the only way to go if you have any safety concerns about the stove method.

As for what to put in the simmer pot – it’s up to you! I will include a list of some possibilities, mix and match the ingredients as you see fit.

  • dried orange peel
  • apple
  • cloves
  • cinnamon sticks
  • cardamom pods
  • fresh ginger
  • star anise
  • vanilla bean
  • lemon
  • rosemary
  • cranberries
  • bay leaf

I hope that you enjoy making your house smell yummy with a simmer pot. If you need a new pot or slow cooker, DealDash has them. DealDash has many kitchen items. Check DealDash first, at this link here. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!Image result for simmer pot ingredients

DealDash Does Nail Art

Image result for nail art

Nail art is a fun hobby that you can pick up easily and inexpensively. Give it a try!

I would like to start off saying that I am in no way an expert in nail art – As a woman in her mid-30’s I have been painting my nails for 20 years or so, but only got into nail art in the past few years. There are some amazing nail artists out there, but it takes time and patience to make real works of art on your nails. With that said, you can have a lot of fun playing around with all of the different colors and patterns on your nails. And unlike some other hobbies, you can get started using supplies that you probably already have at home.

Let’s start you off with an easy, cute design that you can customize to match any outfit – flowers!

Supplies:

  • Nail Polish in 3 colors of your choice, plus a clear base & topcoat
  • Nail polish remover & Cotton rounds, q-tips
  • Pin with plastic pinhead (like for sewing)

Directions:

  1. Remove any old nail polish that is on your nails.
  2. File your nails to get the shape and length you want.
  3. Paint a clear basecoat on your nails, let dry.
  4. Paint your background color on your nails, let dry.
  5. Using the pinhead, put 5 round drops of 1 color on each nail, positioning so they all share an edge, let dry. This will be the main part of your flower.
  6. Using the pinhead, take a different color of polish and put 1 larger drop of color in the middle of the flower that you just painted, let dry. This is the middle of your flower.
  7. After you have completed all of your flowers and let them dry, paint your topcoat on, let dry.
  8. Admire your flowered nails!

DealDash Crafts: Crayon Art

Image result for crayon melted art ideas

Melted crayon art is beautiful and fun to make. Here’s how…

Making craft projects is what keeps life exciting, and melted crayon art is very easy to do, doesn’t require many materials, and can produce a finished project in less than an hour. What’s not to like?

My daughter brought home a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch at her school, and I was instructed that we needed to decorate it in a non-scary way and return it to school in a few days. Since we needed to transport it back to school I figured that carving probably wasn’t the best option, stickers would just fall off, and drawing on it with a sharpie marker just wasn’t very fun. With those things in mind, I decided that we would make her pumpkin into a melted crayon project. Here is a quick tutorial in case you would like to make your own melted crayon art.

Materials:

  • Canvas of some type, it can be anything from a cardboard box to an actual art canvas
  • Crayons. They can be the cheap ones from the dollar store, if you like. The amount of crayons you need is proportional to the size of your project. A 24 pack of crayons is good for a small to medium-sized project.
  • Glue gun with glue
  • Hair dryer
  • Newspaper or large piece of cardboard to contain the mess

Step 1:

Using your glue gun, glue the crayons to the top of your canvas. Point the tips of the crayons down.

Step 2:

Using your hair dryer, put it on high heat and point it to the bottom half of the crayons.

Step 3:

Continue along the crayons until you are satisfied with the amount that they have melted. I found that I needed to concentrate the hair dryer in one spot for about 5 minutes to get them melted as much as I wanted.

Step 4:

Let dry. After drying you can remove the crayon wrappers and the remainder of the crayons that weren’t melted – or you can leave them on the canvas. It’s completely your decision.

I hope that you found this to be a fun craft project. If you like crafts, be sure to visit DealDash. DealDash has many fun craft items for auction. Just click this link here and you can browse the auctions. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!

DealDash Cheap Halloween Costume Ideas

Image result for lots of halloween costumes

We are 1/4 done with October, so if you haven’t gotten your (or your kid’s) costumes ready yet, now is the time.

There are probably 50 complete ready-made costumes at any of your local box-box stores, and even more bits and pieces to make even more different costumes and variations. If you want something totally original, though, you are going to have to go to the thrift store and get creative, or get together the craft supplies and make it yourself. There are plenty of costumes that you can make with a minimum of crafting skill, especially if you combine finds from the thrift store together with makeup and accessories from the Halloween store. Let’s see what we can think of…

  • Zombie – This one is really easy. Get any outfit from the thrift store or from your own closet (that you don’t mind destroying) and go to town ripping, slicing, and dousing with fake blood from the store. Then mix yourself up some whitish-bluish makeup, apply to face, add bite marks with makeup, and you’re officially undead.
  • Cheerleader – If you have an eye for spotting things at the thrift store, try to find a cheerleader uniform. If that fails, just get a short pleated skirt, tank top, and knee socks. If you have a Marshall’s near you they often have little girl’s cheerleader outfits for the local college teams. I just bought my daughter a Boston College cheerleader uniform from Marshall’s for $14.99, and it’s surprisingly good quality, made by Under Armour.
  • Doctor, nurse, or dentist – Just get scrubs from the thrift store or Wal*Mart and add the appropriate accessories.
  • Cowgirl or cowboy – Get a plaid shirt, jeans, boots, and a cowboy at from the thrift store. Add in a cardboard cutout of a horse, or a stuffed horse, and you’re ready to rope some cattle.
  • Football, basketball, baseball, or hockey player – Uniform shirts from these sports are easy to get from the thrift store. Choose your favorite and add accessories.

I hope that this DealDash Reviewed Blog article has given you some ideas of some fun costumes that you can scrounge up quickly, easily, and cheaply from your local thrift store and big box stores. DealDash has gift cards of all kinds such as Marshall’s, Target, K-mart, Sears, and more. Visit DealDash at this link here to choose a gift card. DealDash offers free shipping on all auctions including gift cards. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!

DealDash Spooky Crafts: Jar Lights

Image result for halloween mason jar lights

Making jack-o-lanterns out of real pumpkins is fun, but if you’re not up for a big pumpkin guts mess this year try these spooky mason jar lights instead.

Let’s face it, carving pumpkins is a huge mess. It’s fun, and I would never deprive my children of this great childhood activity, but since both of my bigger kids are at school this year they are actually carving pumpkins on a field trip – I feel like I can skip it, since the baby doesn’t know what he’s missing! However, since I do like to keep things festive for the holidays, I thought that this spooky mason jar craft project was a happy medium between “huge mess” and “not decorating”. This craft is fun, easy, and only needs a few materials to make a very adorably spooky decoration.

Materials:

  • Mason Jar
  • String of fairy lights
  • Tissue paper (any color, but if you want to make “pumpkins” use orange)
  • Construction paper (black)
  • Paint (optional)
  • Scissors
  • Mod podge (or watered down elmer’s glue)
  • paintbrush

Instructions:

  1. Cut out your “pumpkin” face, or any other shape that you would like use to decorate the jar.
  2. Using the mod podge or glue, attach the face shapes to the inside of the mason jar.
  3. Using thin strips of tissue paper, attach 1 layer of tissue paper to the inside of the jar using the paintbrush, coat it with the mod modge or glue. Set aside to dry.
  4. Cover the outside of the lid with either paint or a layer of the tissue paper. I find that the paint looks better, but the tissue paper dries more quickly. It’s your choice.
  5. After everything has dried, put your fairy lights inside the jar. Put the battery pack in the bottom of the jar, and put the lights inside on top of the battery pack. You can arrange them in any way you like, but since they will be shining through the tissue paper it doesn’t really make much of a difference how you place them as long as the battery pack is on the bottom.
  6. That’s it! Enjoy your spooky Halloween mason jar.

I hope that you found this to be a fun craft to do by yourself or with your kids or grandkids. DealDash has some great auctions on craft and sewing supplies. Cereal Box Stencil Bags

Decorate a plain fabric tote with cereal box stencils and kid-friendly sponge painting.

Materials:
-Fabric tote (any color, but neon orange or green for safety is best!)
-Fabric paint
– sponge (if you can find the sponge on a stick for painting that would be great)
-Cereal box (Any size)
-Exacto knife or box cutter and surface to cut on
-Washi or masking tape

Instructions:
1. Cut the front and back off of your cereal box.
2. Using the above shapes template you can cut & paste the picture, and enlarge it on your computer to print out. Cut out jack-o’-lantern shapes with an exacto knife on a safe cutting surface. You can most likely do this on your garage floor or driveway, put down an extra thick piece of cardboard from a bigger box under your cereal box and cut away!
3. Next, tape your cardboard stencil to the fabric bag and gently dab on the craft paint using your sponge, peel off stencil, let dry for at least an hour. You can make it dry faster by using a hairdryer on a low setting. Don’t use the higher setting because it could move your paint.

Personalized Treat Buckets

These are great buckets to keep the candy in that you will be handing out at the door.

Materials:
-Large empty ice cream bucket with a handle
-Felt, multiple festive colors is recommended
-Hot glue gun
-Ribbon, 6 yards per bucket
-Foam stamps in fun Halloween shapes such as bats or skulls

Instructions:
1.  Apply the felt to the bucket using the hot glue gun. Cover the entire surface around the outside. Use more than you need to, and cut off the excess.
2. Glue your ribbon to the top and bottom of the bucket so that you cover up the felt edges. It just looks much nicer and more “put together” this way.
3. Tie contrasting colored ribbons on the handle.
4. Stick on the fun foam shapes to decorate your bucket. These foam shapes usually have a sticky back, but if you would like to reinforce your foam shapes, just use a little hot glue from the gun.

Bento Lessons with DealDash

Image result for bento

Now that the kids are back in school and I need to make lunches for two kids daily instead of one, I thought it would be fun to explore some “easy” bento designs.

Are you familiar with the concept of “bento”? If you were to look up the definition in the dictionary it would say “Bento is a single-portion takeout or home-packed meal common in Japanese cuisine. A traditional bento holds rice, fish or meat, with pickled or cooked vegetables, usually in a box-shaped container.” However, to many moms (and some dads) bento is more than that – bento is an art project and an expression of love all in one cute little delicious package.

Bento designs can range from something fairly simple, such as the design above with two little steamed buns atop a pile of noodles to represent little birdies in a nest. It’s adorable, and in this particular case only adds an extra 5-10 minutes of prep time to make the little faces and arrange the ingredients nicely.

Creative Bento (Japanese Lunch) Boxes

On the other end of the spectrum there are the extremely detailed and difficult to make bento as shown in the picture above. If you take each little character separately it shouldn’t be impossible to re-create, but it would take a very long time.

You don’t need any special supplies to make the more simple bento designs, just a sharp knife, a lunch box that is meant to be carried flat, and some patience. However, if you want to do the more detailed and artistic bentos, then you should probably invest in some of the rice molds and food-grade hole punches to make designs.

If your kids like the idea of taking bento boxes to school for lunches, it could save you some time and be a fun project to get them to help you with some of the preparation and designs the night before, so you just have to assemble the bento design in the morning before school.

Since you’re going to need a sharp knife, how about checking out the cutlery auctions on DealDash? DealDash has many different types of knives, as well as a huge assortment of other cooking implements. DealDash Helps: Ease Anxiety

Are you one of the over 40 million Americans that have anxiety? Here are a few tips to help get a little relief.

Approximately 10% of Americans have an anxiety disorder. Luckily there are a few things that you can do to help yourself feel a little better. If none of these suggestions work for you then you should probably visit a doctor so you can get some help.

The most popular thing to ease anxiety is exercise! Luckily it doesn’t have to be strenuous, even just a brisk walk around the neighborhood or (even better) in a park or on a wooded trail can make your anxiety melt away. If you aim for about 30 minutes of exercise per day then you can not only feel less anxious but get more fit as an added bonus.

Another great way to ease anxiety is to spend some time cuddling your cat or dog. Just spending a few minutes petting an animal can make you feel much better. If you aren’t permitted to have pets where you live then an easy and cheap solution is a betta fish. You can get a betta fish, its habitat, and some food for less than $20 at your local pet store. Watching a fish swim can be very relaxing. No pets? No problem! You can spend time at your local animal rescue/Humane Society volunteering a few hours per week. This is a win-win situation for both you and the animals that you are helping.

You can also ease anxiety by reading a book. Some people might be able to use a textbook or a non-fiction book to relax, but personally I love to read a good novel to escape the world. Try to find something lighthearted and engaging for the best anxiety relieving benefits.

Lastly, another wonderful way to ease anxiety is coloring. Adult coloring books have become quite trendy as of late, you can get them anywhere from your local big box store, a bookstore, or even the craft store. You can color by yourself, or if you have kids or grandkids you can all color together. It’s a great way to ease your anxiety and spend some quality time with your family as well.

I hope that this article has helped you try to think of some ways to ease your anxiety, which will help you feel much better in your daily life. Another great way for me to ease my anxiety is to bid on DealDash! DealDash has hundreds of awesome items up for bid every day, go take a peek and see how much you can save. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!

DealDash Makes: A Chalkboard Calendar

As a busy mom of three sometimes I struggle with remembering who has a doctor appointment, who has a dentist appointment, and what I have planned for the week’s dinners. Enter the chalkboard calendar.

There are different kinds of pre-made chalkboard calendars out there, and of course there are plenty of plain chalkboards, but I was looking for something more special than that. I was planning on giving it a prized position in the kitchen above my new buffet cabinet, so everyone could easily see what was going on the upcoming week. I looked and looked, but I had a hard time finding one that was big enough, framed tastefully to match my kitchen, and wasn’t $180. Yes, the only one that I found that I liked was $180.

So I decided to make my own! It’s really very simple and easy. You only need a few items to make your new chalkboard calendar, and you can spend only a few dollars on up to as high a limit as you would like to go. The smaller chalkboard calendar that you make the cheaper it will be, because the most expensive thing that you are going to need is a picture frame, and picture frame prices seem to raise exponentially with size.

Materials:

  • Picture frame – Any size that you want that will fit your space and your budget. I personally went to the craft store and used a 40% off coupon on a beautiful bluish-gray frame that was sized 16X20. After the discount I paid around $20 for it.
  • Chalkboard contact paper – They sell rolls of this at the craft store, and also at Wal*Mart in the drawer liner section. The chalkboard contact paper is very inexpensive.
  • Paint pen – You can get them at the craft store in any color that you like.
  • Chalk or chalk markers
  • Hanging supplies for your frame
  • Ruler, scissors

Instructions:

  1. Measure a piece of chalkboard contact paper that will fit your frame and cut it out.
  2. Draw on the chalkboard with your paint pen, this information will be permanent. I chose to put our last name at the top, the days of the week, and then a section for “To do”.
  3. Peel off the backing on your chalkboard contact paper and stick it right on the glass of the picture frame.
  4. Hang up your picture frame.
  5. Bam! You’ve got a personalized chalkboard calendar! Use those chalkboard pens and write out your agenda, dinner plans, appointments, anything that you would like to remember. The chalkboard paint should rub off easily with a cloth and a little water, but the paint pen words should stay put. You may have to refresh them occasionally, or you could just peel off the chalkboard decal paper and put a new and fresh one on occasionally.

Wasn’t that easy? I found that it was really fun to make and looks very nice when hanging on the wall. It’s nice because you can get any frame you like from the craft store to match your decor. If you are shopping for any other decor for your home be sure to check out DealDash. DealDash has decorative items as well as furniture. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!

DealDash Builds: a Bench

Building a simple bench from scratch is very easy even with a minimum of woodworking skills and can even be a fun family project.

Building a bench from scratch can be a wonderful bonding experience with your kids, and should only take an afternoon unless you decide to turn the “simple” bench into a much more intricate one.

The first thing that you are going to need to do is make sure that you have the proper materials for the job. The bare minimum of what you will need is listed below.

Materials:

  • Saw (or pre-cut wood)
  • Paintbrush
  • Drill
  • Wood screws
  • 2×10 wooden board
  • 2×2 cut to 8′ length
  • 1X4 wooden board 8′ (2)
  • Wooden dowl rod
  • Paint or wood stain

Directions:

  • Cut the side pieces for your bench. Take a single 2×10 wooden board and cut two equal sized pieces to the height of your new bench using a saw.
  • Attach the brace bar. Using wood screws for each bar, attach a 2×2 cut to 8′ length to each side piece. This 2×2 should be attached 1 ½” from the top of the side pieces. Be sure not to use the screws closer to any of the edges of the board so your wood doesn’t split.
  • Attach the sides of the bench to each other. Use two 8’ 1x4s to attach the sides of the bench to each other. The top edge of the 1×4 will be flush with the top of the side pieces.
  • Drill dowel holes into both ends of the 2x2s and the matching location on the 1x4s. Use dowels to attach these and then use your wood screws, pass from the outside of the bench sides and into the 1x4s, use two screws for each end of the 1×4 boards.
  • Add the seating area. Use two 8’ 2x4s. Use long wood screws, go through the side boards and into the seat boards, please use 6 screws on each side.
  • Paint your creation. If you made this bench with your kids, how about letting them paint this bench however they would like? When they get sick of it being lime green or hot pink you can always paint it a more “grown up” color.

That’s it, folks. If you need to get some supplies before you get started on your project make sure you visit DealDash. DealDash has the tools that you will need for this project as well as just about any other home improvement that you can think of doing. Just click on this link here and it will take you to the Home, Garden, and Tools category.

Building a Bird Bath with DealDash

You might remember the DealDash article a few weeks ago showing you how to build a bird house. If you enjoyed that, perhaps it time to build a bird bath.

A well-constructed and thoughtfully executed bird bath can bring new species of birds to your yard for you to enjoy. The bird bath’s placement is very important so that the birds feel safe visiting the bath. Bird bath construction is very easy and can be completed quickly without extensive woodworking knowledge needed.

The first step in constructing your new bird bath is to decide where it will be placed in your yard. You want the bird bath to be easily visible to you when you are on your deck or inside your house. It’s also very important that the bird bath has some protection, either from a tree, bush, your deck, or even from the side of your house. If your bird bath is out in the open yard the birds won’t feel comfortable because it’s very likely that a hawk or other large predatory bird might swoop down and carry off your new birdie friends.

Next you will need to place a wooden post in the ground where you have decided to put your bird bath. A wooden post that is made for a mailbox is just perfect! If you have ever dug a hole and placed and sealed in a post for a mailbox it’s virtually the same thing. They sell “Quick Concrete” that’s in single-serve bags that meant to put in one mailbox post. It’s very simple to use, just pour the powdered concrete in, pour the correct measurement of water in, hold the post steady for 10 minutes, and bam! You’ve got yourself a post.

The next thing you’ll want to do is secure whatever vessel that you have chosen to be your bird bath. Many people like to go with a simple terra-cotta pot and saucer, or even just the saucer. You can put the pot facedown on the pole, secure with a putty or silicone, and place the saucer on top – this allows for easy cleaning. Simply take the saucer off and put it back on when you need to clean it.

That’s it! Simple, easy, and a lot of fun once your little birds start coming by daily. Be sure to change the water often, and the birds will be very happy.

If making a bird bath sounds like it’s just a little too much work for your busy lifestyle, how about getting either a bird bath or a fountain from DealDash? It will save you some effort, and you can have fun bidding on your new yard ornament. Just click here and it will take you to the DealDash page with the lawn ornaments. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!

DealDash Crafts: Scrapbooking

Scrapbooking can be a fun and rewarding hobby. There are so many different ways to scrapbook it can be a little daunting to get started.

The best thing about picking up scrapbooking as a hobby is that there is basically zero learning curve. You can decide that you want to make a scrapbook, buy supplies, and have your scrapbook made by the end of the day. Scrapbooking is great for people who like immediate gratification, because unlike sewing or knitting where you might work weeks on a project scrapbooking can go as quickly or as slowly as you desire.

However, even though you can put a scrapbook together by just throwing everything on a page and calling it “done” you will be a lot happier with your results if you take the time to do a little research, pick your scrapbook layouts carefully, and take your time with your scrapbook.

Let’s talk about how to put together a simple but eye-catching scrapbook page. Most scrapbook layouts have a few common elements. Let’s check those out!

  • A colorful background page – This is the paper that you will attach everything else on to. It can be blank, but most people choose a fun pattern or theme.
  • A main picture – it can be anything from your baby, a pet, another relative, a car, something in nature, anything!
  • A title – you don’t have to put a title, but most layouts have a title such as “Baby’s First Bath” or “My Sister Lisa.” It doesn’t have to be at the top like a book page, it can be anywhere you like.
  • Embellishments – These are little “extras” that you use to decorate the rest of the page. You can use stickers, ribbons, flat gems, buttons, etc. You can use anything you like, but the flatter the better, because eventually you will want to put these loose scrapbook pages into a book.

There are lots of other things that you can use to make your scrapbook layout such as photo mats to go behind your picture, photo corners to put on the edges of your picture, borders for your page, and lots of other things. Change things up! Make some of your layouts fancy, make some plain, make some that are somewhere in the middle. Scrapbooking is all about making your individuality shine.

Bind-It-All Machine V2-Pink

There are some great tools that you can use to make your scrapbooking experience more fun such as a Cricut cutter machine or even a binder to put your pages together. The Basics of Drawing With DealDash

Drawing is a wonderful hobby. You can draw just about anywhere with very few supplies needed. Let’s learn about drawing.

I’ll admit, I am not a very good artist. However, as with many crafts you can get better at drawing simply with a lot of practice. Learning to draw can be a fun experience, and once you have mastered a few basic lessons you will be able to impress your friends with your drawing skills.

First things first, you’re going to need a few supplies. Obviously the only two things that you truly need are a pencil and a piece of paper. However, if you really want to become proficient at drawing you will want to buy a few specialized materials that will make it a little bit easier for you to draw. Here’s a list of the basics that you should pick up:

  • Specialized drawing pencils – Pencils are the simplest, most essential drawing medium. Drawing pencils are not exactly the same as your regular yellow #2 pencil that you are used to using in school. Drawing pencils have cores made from powdered graphite (not lead) fired with clay, varying in hardness. Select a small range to begin with: an HB, a 3B, and 6B.
  • Erasers – You will need two erasers; a kneadable eraser for pencil, charcoal or pastel, and a white plastic eraser. It can be cut with a knife to make a fresh edge for erasing crisp lines. The kneadable eraser is good for larger surfaces, and the white plastic eraser is good for erasing small sections at a time with precision.
  • Sharpener – Any pencil sharpener will do as long as it’s fairly new and not dulled from sharpening 12 dozen pencils per school year.
  • Drawing/Artist’s pad – You can draw on any type of paper, but it might be helpful for you to get a drawing pad. The paper in the drawing pad has a much smoother surface for drawing than a piece of notebook paper.

That’s it! You can buy lots of other things such as different pencils, different types of paper, copic pens, and other items, but these are the basics that you need to get started.

To get started, you will want to try to draw a few basic shapes like a cube, a cone, an oval and a circle. Keep practicing these shapes over and over again. The basic foundation of most things that you will want to draw are made up of these shapes.

Next, try to practice sketching for at least 15 minutes per day. This is how you build confidence and develop your drawing skills. Don’t worry if your skills seem like they are lacking, this is just for practice to get in the habit of drawing.

Finally, find some items around your house that you can practice drawing, such as a vase, a cup, or just about anything. Look at the item that you have chosen, and try to break the item down into the simple shapes that you have been practicing every day. You will be drawing items that people can recognize in no time!
