More Slow Cooker Tips from DealDash

DealDash

Using a slow cooker can reduce the time you spend in the kitchen. Here are more tips from DealDash on using a slow cooker.

Using a slow cooker can be a wonderful alternative instead of the oven to prepare meals.  No matter if you have used a slow cooker before or are new to using this kitchen we can help. Here are some tips that you should keep in mind when preparing your next meal. As always, DealDash loves to share kitchen tips with you.

Don’t Add Too Much Liquid

You should know that you do not need to use a lot of liquids when using a slow cooker.  The slow cooker will gather all the moisture that it needs on its own. Only a small amount of extra liquid is required.  You should also be made aware that any dairy products that you need to add to your slow cooker meal should be added at the end so they do not curdle.

Use Cheaper Meat

A huge benefit of using a slow cooker to prepare meals is that you can prepare tougher cuts of meat in your crockpot.  By cooking the meat properly with the crockpot you will see that tougher cuts will turn out very tender.  This can save you a lot of money on your grocery bill as you can purchase less expensive cuts of meat. As a mom of three, I like to do anything that I can to save money on the weekly grocery bill.

Slice Those Veggies

Another tip that you should keep in mind when you’re looking to make a meal in a slow cooker is that vegetables will take a longer time to be prepared than meat. So you will want to make sure that they’re cut in small, thin, uniform layers.  This way you know there will be prepared properly and all of the vegetables will be done at the same time.

Save Energy

If you’re looking to save money using a crockpot will be very helpful to your monthly budget.  Using a slow cooker will keep your kitchen cooler. Also, it will use less energy so it is a great alternative for preparing your next meal.

Thanks for Reading

If you’ve used the slow cooker before or are new to the slow cooker, you should consider what a wonderful kitchen tool it is. It will be very beneficial when you are planning your next meal. Also, it is definitely worth the investment if you are looking for a  great way to prepare foods easily and deliciously. You can save money by getting your slow cooker on DealDash.

DealDash Cooks: Why the Slow Cooker?

Crock-Pot Cook and Travel Programmable Slow Cooker

You might wonder why so many people love the slow cooker. DealDash is here to tell you why.

When many people think about a healthy and hearty meal they believe that it must take hours of preparation and cooking time. This doesn’t have to be the case at all if you use a slow cooker. You will be able to take advantage of many benefits if you choose to use a slow cooker. Here are some reasons, from DealDash.

Save Money on Food

One big reason to make use of a slow cooker is that it is going to save you money. You will be able to select less expensive cuts of meat. Why? Because they will come out as tender as possible being cooked slowly in a slow cooker. This can be a huge advantage especially if you are on a tight budget. Many supermarkets have very inexpensive roasts on sale every week.

Save More Time

You are going to save a great deal of time when you choose to use a slow cooker to prepare your meals.  All you will need to do is add all the needed ingredients, set it to the right temperature and you are all set. This allows you to prepare tasty meals in no time at all for your household. Most slow cookers have simple controls, low and high.

You’ll Eat More Healthfully

You will also be eating more healthfully when you choose to use a slow cooker. Also, you will be avoiding extra oils and fats that you would be adding if you were to be frying or sauteing foods. If you like, you can also take the fat out of the liquid that you add to make the meal healthier for your family.

Quick SLow Cooker Rules

Some rules to follow when you are using the slow cooker include: First, cut up vegetables evenly to be able to cook them properly. Next, do not choose to make use of a slow cooker to reheat leftover food. Finally, allow plenty of time for food to be able to be cooked properly at lower temperatures. Doing things like this is going to help you prepare the best possible foods in your slow cooker.

Thanks for Reading

This is just the start of the benefits that you can get from making meals with the slow cooker. You will be able to take advantage of these benefits just by following the tips listed above. Your family is going to love the healthy great tasting meals you make with your slow cooker.

DealDash Recipes: Crockpot Kalua Pork

DealDash kalua pork

Kalua pork is a delicious and very easy to make dish. A few minutes of prep will reward you.

As you might guess kalua pork originated in Hawaii. The original dish was actually cooked in a hole in the ground – and in some Hawaiian families, it still is! However, with people’s busy lives these days cooking in the crockpot or slow cooker makes life easy. Luckily, this is a dish that just takes a few minutes and a few dollars worth of supplies and you’ll be left with a delightful, tasty dinner.

Ingredients

  • 2 (ish) pounds of pork shoulder/pork butt/Boston butt meat
  • 1 Tablespoon Liquid Smoke (Hickory flavor)
  • 2 Tablespoons Hawaiian Sea Salt (red) – However if you can’t find this, you can use coarse sea salt instead.

Directions:

  1. Wash pork and pat dry with paper towels.
  2. Take a long-tined fork and poke your pork all over – flip it around in the crock pot to minimize pork juice splatter.
  3. Slowly pour the liquid smoke all over the pork while it’s in the slow cooker
  4. Sprinkle the salt on the pork, rubbing it in. Flip it around while you are rubbing the salt in so you get all of the sides salted.
  5. Cook in the crockpot on low for 8+ hours. You can cook this pork in the slow cooker for up to 12 hours.
  6. Shred with forks and spoon the juices over the shredded pork.
  7. Serve over rice, veggies, or a combination of the two.

DealDash Has Kitchen Essentials

Do you have a slow cooker or crock pot at home? It’s definitely a kitchen essential. I use mine every single week, sometimes twice a week. The slow cooker is the perfect way to make a home-cooked dinner for your family, even if you’re too busy to spend a lot of time in the kitchen.

Another excellent solution to the problem is a pressure cooker. You can make this exact same recipe in a pressure cooker. If you prefer to cook this recipe in a pressure cooker, you will need to leave it in there for an hour. Honestly, though, it tastes a lot better when you cook it on low in the slow cooker. However, if you’re short on time, then the pressure cooker is the way to go!

DealDash and the Festive Smell

Image result for simmer pot ingredients No matter what kind of house you live in, I bet you want it to smell yummy. Here is a guide on fall simmer pots from DealDash.

I don’t know about you, but I end up cleaning my house myself most of the time, and one of the things that I like to do is make the air smell yummy and clean.  I have found quite a few handy tips and tricks through the years to make the house smell good – from chemicals to candles to natural methods. Here are a few helpful hints from DealDash.

Around this time of year the air in the house tends to get a little stale due to no windows being opened, and people opening and shutting the doors as fast as possible to keep out the chilly weather. There’s a way to freshen up the air in your house without too much effort – simmer pots!

Making a simmer pot is extremely easy. There are two basic methods – on the stove or in a crock pot. Both have their positives and negatives, let’s talk about both methods.

To make a simmer pot on the stove you just need to combine the ingredients together, fill the pot with water, and simmer away. The idea is to simmer the pot all day, adding more water as needed. This way gets the maximum scent, and also has the added benefit of extremely easy clean up. However, if you have small kids, pets that jump onto the counter, or a gas stove – this method is not for you.

Making a simmer pot using a crock pot is easy and you can let it simmer all day without even having to watch it, other than to just check in occasionally to make sure that it doesn’t need any more water. I don’t feel that this method spreads around as much scent, but it’s the only way to go if you have any safety concerns about the stove method.

As for what to put in the simmer pot – it’s up to you! I will include a list of some possibilities, mix and match the ingredients as you see fit.

  • dried orange peel
  • apple
  • cloves
  • cinnamon sticks
  • cardamom pods
  • fresh ginger
  • star anise
  • vanilla bean
  • lemon
  • rosemary
  • cranberries
  • bay leaf

I hope that you enjoy making your house smell yummy with a simmer pot. If you need a new pot or slow cooker, DealDash has them. DealDash has many kitchen items. Check DealDash first, at this link here. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!Image result for simmer pot ingredients

DealDash Recipes: Autumnal Beef Stew

Image result for beef stew

As the weather is cooling slightly, it’s a wonderful time to start thinking about fall recipes. Beef stew is one of my favorites.

There is just something to me that says “Winter is coming” with a big hearty bowl of beef stew. It’s delicious, has healthy ingredients, and you can even make a huge batch of it, and freeze it for later use for a night that you don’t feel like cooking this upcoming winter. Pairing beef stew with a delicious home-baked (yes, buying frozen dough and baking it counts as home-baked!) bread makes the perfect meal for a long, chilly night with your family.

Autumnal Beef Stew

Ingredients:

  • 2 LBS stew beef cut into cubes or small chunks
  • 10 small red potatoes cut into quarters
  • 1 LB baby carrots
  • 1 large red onion, cut into small chunks
  • 1/2 a stick of butter
  • 1 TBS flour
  • 1 Cup beef broth or water
  • 1 tsp each of: salt, dried parsley flakes, & garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp each of: pepper, celery seed, & dried thyme

Directions:

  1. Place potatoes, carrots and onions in a 5+ quart crock pot/slow cooker
  2. brown your beef cubes in a pan with the butter
  3. After browning beef, add to slow cooker
  4. Stir flour into the beefy pan drippings until mixed, then cook and stir until browned
  5. Add the water, then bring to a boil and cook while stirring for approximately 2 minutes or until thickened
  6. Add in all of your dry ingredients to the pan drippings, mix, then pour over beef in the slow cooker
  7. Cook on low for 8 hours or on high for 4 hours
  8. Serve with crispy buttered bread
  9. Enjoy!

Beef stew is the quintessential dinner for a chilly winter’s day. It can fill you up with its hearty goodness, and make you feel warm and comfortable even in the midst of a winter snowstorm. It’s easy to make, and delicious to eat. Even picky children usually like this beef stew, even if they end up picking out the onions!

DealDash Cooks: Slow BBQ Chicken

Originally hailing from the South, I love BBQ! If it’s too hot in your kitchen this summer to cook, just use the slow cooker.

When you say Southern BBQ most people automatically think about pork. However, chicken can also make an awesomely delicious BBQ sandwich. The slow cooker is perfect for cooking BBQ, as the key cooking phrase of anyone versed in BBQ is “Low and Slow”, which is exactly what the slow cooker does.

Here is the recipe for cooking delicious slow cooker BBQ chicken, and also some dessert ideas.

Ingredients

  • 4 Boneless/skinless chicken breast halves
  • 1 (18 Ounce) bottle of BBQ sauce (I like Sweet Baby Ray’s or Stubbs, personally)
  • 1/4 Cup white vinegar
  • 1/4 Cup brown sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 Teaspoon red pepper flakes (if desired)

Directions

  • Whisk BBQ sauce, vinegar, brown sugar, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes together in a bowl until the sugar dissolves
  • Put chicken breast halves in a slow cooker.
  • Pour sauce mixture over the chicken.
  • Cook on Low for approximately 6 hours.
  • Shred the chicken breasts with 2 forks
  • Serve on buns

As for dessert my family always liked to pair an ambrosia with BBQ. Here is a quick and easy Pink Ambrosia recipe:

Ingredients

Directions

  • Mix sweetened condensed milk, whipped topping, and vanilla extract together in a bowl
  • Fold cherry pie filling, pineapple, fruit cocktail, coconut, walnuts, and mini-marshmallows into the condensed milk mixture
  • Cover bowl and refrigerate overnight
  • Mix very well before serving

If you are in need of a new slow cooker to make BBQ chicken (or anything else, for that matter!) then head on over to DealDash. DealDash has a large selection of slow cookers at this link right here.
