A Snow Wreath

Wreaths can sometimes be expensive. That is why it is better to make them yourself. Just simply add flowers, greenery, and then cover the wreath with fake snow, to give your door a wintery feel. Making a snowy wreath for your door is easy, and fun to do.  If you want the same look with a little less crafting, you can buy a pre-made wreath and spray it with fake snow.

Make a Banner

Greet your guests with an upholstered banner. You can create a holiday banner for almost any occasion using chipboard letters and fabric. You can post a sign saying different Christmas greetings such as Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, or Season’s Greetings. Hang the banner anywhere in your house, but make sure your guests can see it. If you’d like, you can even make the banner double-sided with a different phrase on each side.

Light Up the Entry Way

Create a warm and welcoming entryway with for guests during the Christmas time. Simply fill some mason jars with any brand of Epsom salt for a snowy look. Then add small candles, and line them in the walkway that is leading to your door. Your guests will feel like they are in a winter wonderland. This is great for having a holiday party or if you know that Christmas carolers will be coming to your neighborhood.

DealDash Decorates: Your Child’s Room

Babies grow into kids, is it time to re-do the nursery? Let DealDash give you some suggestions.

Did you have every last detail picked out for your child’s room when they were a baby? Are they getting a little too old for the baby theme? Does your child want to have a little more say in how their bedroom is decorated? It just might be time to do a little personalizing to their room. Here are a few simple tips that will help you be able to create a space that both you and your child will be happy with. Read more information below, from DealDash.

Personalize it!

Make use of their name and initials when it comes to adding a personal touch to their bedroom. You can do a great deal of things like get vinyl stickers, drawings, or any number of things to illustrate their name and initials in their bedroom. What child wouldn’t want to walk into their room and see their name all over the place? It really gives them a sense that this is their spot. There are many places online that you can order personalized items for your child.

Bedroom? No, Art Gallery!

Have your little artist decorate. Are you seemingly running out of places to put all of the artwork your little artists create? Well then have them turn their room into their own personal art gallery. You can make sure that you place their artwork in some cool frames and display them all around their room. Again, it is a great way for your child to be able to claim their own space.

If you would like to do a small project with your child for their room, head to the craft store. Pick up some string and mini-clothespins. You can paint the clothespins any colors that your child likes. Next, put them on the string and attach the string to the wall. You can attach any of their works of art to the clothespins.

Make an Accent Wall

If you are not really ready to give up the colors that you picked out for their room when they were an infant, you can let them select a color for an accent wall. Giving them the choice of color for the accent wall leaves the colors that you like while giving them the opportunity to make a personal choice for their room. It’s a win, win situation! Better yet, choose 3 or 4 colors that you think would look nice as an accent wall and let them choose from those colors. It will make both of you happy.

New Decor from DealDash

Now that your child is getting older they might like to pick out some of their own decor from DealDash for you to get them. DealDash has a lot of items that appeal to all age groups such as fun clocks, statues, paintings, and even nightlights if they are still using one.

DealDash Helps Create a Calm Office Space

Do you want to feel happier at more calm at work? If so, then read this article from DealDash.

Going to work can sometimes be stressful. However, if you can manage to turn your personal office space or cubicle into a place that you feel relaxed then your happiness and your productivity will increase. A stark environment with bare white walls does nothing to calm you or make you feel at ease. Try some of these tips from DealDash to improve your office life by creating a calming office space.

Plants, Plants Everywhere

There is nothing more calming or stress-reducing than some beautiful green plants in your work space. Plants can de-stress you, make you feel more relaxed, and look nice as well. I prefer real plants, but the artificial kind will work as well. If you aren’t a big fan of leafy green plants, then just try a small succulent on your desk or a small bouquet of flowers to cheer up your space.

Clean Up

If you have 22 different post-its stuck around your cubicle, along with various papers, pens, and half-eaten food (ew!) then it’s time to clean up your office space. Clean up is simple, just start with the things that can definitely be thrown away or recycled such as that half-eaten bagel and those lunch take-out menus that you can easily look up online if you need them. Once you have thrown away the trash, then tidy up the rest by organizing them nicely. You will feel much better about your space when it’s clean.

Adding a Touch of Home

Now that you have gotten some nice plants and cleared away your trash and recyclables, it’s time to decorate. Bring in a few framed photos of your family, friends, or pet. They will make you feel more calm and happy through the stress of the day. You can also bring in your favorite coffee mug, and even a foot massager for under your desk (Shhhh! I won’t tell!). If you are a fan of the new flameless LED candles you could bring in one of those as well. They typically have remotes so you can change their color throughout the day to suit your mood.

Music to My Ears

If you aren’t required to be on the phone most of the day, then bring in your favorite music. You can load up your iPod with different playlists to complement your mood. Make a “busy day” playlist with background music, and a “slow day” playlist with lots of upbeat songs to get you through a slow day. If you have your own office then a Bluetooth speaker might be the thing for you, however, if you are out in the “cubicle farm”, then you’ll need to get headphones or ear buds. If your job requires you to answer the phone then try just sticking in 1 ear bud so you can hear when the phone rings.

Enjoy Egg Decorating with DealDash

DealDash Easter eggs

Having kids or grandkids means that you’ll be decorating some Easter eggs this weekend. Here are some tips and tricks from DealDash to make the process go more smoothly.

Decorating eggs is a fun pastime that kids and adults can enjoy together. You don’t have to be a regular churchgoer to enjoy the secular parts of Easter. There are so many great things about decorating Easter eggs. It’s fast, fun, and the best part is you can eat them when you’re done!

Decorating With a Kit

Decorating Easter eggs with a kit is, of course, the easiest way of all. There are a variety of egg decorating kits at any big box store, supermarket, and drug store. Just pick one out and follow the directions on the back of the box. However, I don’t find that the kits produce dark or vibrantly colored eggs. If you don’t care too much what your end result looks like and are decorating them purely for fun, then a kit is the easiest way to go.

Decorating With Food Coloring

Using food coloring to decorate your Easter eggs is almost as easy as using a kit, and produces more vibrant and beautifully colored eggs. Here are some simple directions to dye your eggs using food coloring

  • Water
  • Vinegar
  • Food coloring

  • Mix 1/2 cup boiling water, 1 teaspoon vinegar and 10 to 20 drops food coloring in a cup to achieve desired colors.
  • Repeat for each color.
  • Dip hard-boiled eggs in the dye solution for about 5 minutes.
  • Use a slotted spoon or tongs to add and remove eggs from the dye.
  • Double-dip some of the eggs to make new and interesting colors, or make them half-and-half.

Decorating With Shaving Cream

The newest innovation in egg decorating is to use shaving cream! Yes, the fluffy stuff you use to shave your body. Try out this fun, new way to decorate your Easter eggs this year.

  • White shaving cream (not gel – and get this from the dollar store, you don’t need anything fancy.)
  • Food coloring

  • Spread your white shaving cream out on a cookie sheet.
  • Squirt a little food coloring across the surface of the shaving cream.
  • Use a chopstick to swirl the colors around in the shaving cream.
  • Take your dry and cool hard boiled egg and roll it around in the shaving cream.
  • Put shaving cream eggs on a paper plate and allow them to dry for 5 minutes.
  • After 5 minutes, wipe off the shaving cream and rinse with water, and voila! Beautiful swirly colored Easter eggs.

DealDash Presents: Christmas Memories

What’s your favorite Christmas memory? Today we will explore Christmases gone by with DealDash.

Everyone (who celebrates) has a favorite Christmas memory. My personal favorite is from when I was about 4 years old. On Christmas Eve my parents told me that my Dad was going over to see some other family and wouldn’t be back that night. My mom and I stayed up “really late” to try to catch a glimpse of Santa. Looking back, it was probably only 10 o’clock or so, but to my 4-year-old self, it felt like the dead of night. We hear something at the door…And in came Santa! We hid behind a couch and watched him fill the stockings and put the presents under the tree.

What a wonderful memory. I must not have noticed at the time that Santa was looking rather skinny that year, and arrived on a motorcycle instead of a sleigh. It’s still my favorite Christmas memory. What’s your favorite holiday memory? Feel free to comment down below.

Going back a little further than 1984, if you look at history web sites, you can read about many wonderful old Christmas traditions. If we look back, Christmas, as we know it with the decorated tree, cards, and caroling, started back in Victorian times. At the beginning of the Victorian period families were more likely to give each other presents to celebrate the New Year than at Christmas. However, as time went on, the gift-giving was moved up to Christmas. The presents weren’t anything lavish or amazing. They were more likely to be nuts, fruits such as oranges, and things that were crafted at home.

We can partially credit Charles Dickens with making Christmas the celebration that it has become with Christmas traditions that we are all familiar with such as having a large Christmas dinner with the entire family and other activities that are focused on family togetherness. His delightful book, A Christmas Carol, was very popular in Victorian times, and it even influenced how Victorian families chose to spend their time during the Christmas season. Call me immature, but my favorite Christmas movie is the 1983 Disney cartoon Mickey’s Christmas Carol.

I hope that you have enjoyed this trip down memory lane. If you still haven’t completed your shopping list for Christmas gifts, be sure to check out DealDash. DealDash Decorates the Playroom

Image result for kids playroom

Having a playroom for the kids is great! It keeps all of their belongings in one room instead of strewn about the house underfoot. How do you decorate your playroom?

When my husband and I were looking for our new house having a playroom was a must for us. At that point we had 2 kids and were pretty sure that we were going to have at least 1 more baby, so having a playroom for all of them just made sense to us. Ultimately we couldn’t find a great house that had everything that we were looking for and had to have one built, and you had better believe that we made sure that a playroom was included in the plans!

Now that we have 3 kids and a playroom, it’s important to differentiate the playroom from the rest of the house, and this is easily accomplished by decorating. Since we have 2 boys and 1 girl spanning an age difference of 8 years it was uncertain what kind of universal kid’s theme would fit our space best. We went with an ocean theme. Blue and white walls, ocean and sea creature decorations, and the ultimate accessory – a 90 gallon saltwater aquarium ties the whole theme together.

If your needs for a playroom are more straightforward, here are a few ideas for themes for your playroom.

Cute woodland theme – This is actually the theme of my daughter’s bedroom, but it would be very easy to translate to a bigger scale for a playroom. Floor to ceiling wall decals are fairly inexpensive, and can be a great decoration to put on one wall. You can have a large tree decal, along with smaller decals of cutesy owls, bluebirds, squirrels, and baby deer. I was able to find lamps that had small birds on them, and it would be a fairly easy craft project to cover a few stools with some felt to make them look like tree stumps.

Castle theme – Make your playroom look like the inside of a castle with huge floor pillows with jewel toned pillowcases, a huge piece of sheer fabric hung from the ceiling can represent the lush castle experience, and definitely top off the room with some of the newer paint colors that have sparkles built right into the paint.

Robot theme – Blue and silver are the colors for a robot themed room. If you’re feeling creative you can even paint cardboard boxes to look like robots as a large-scale decoration for the room. Robots are a great theme that can easily be expanded to computers or even Transformers.

Sports theme – Sports are a wonderful theme for a playroom that has older kids using it, most school aged kids enjoy sports, be it soccer, football, or even hockey. Sports is a great theme because you can change the theme with the sports seasons.

Jungle or Zoo theme – I feel like these two themes are more aimed at younger kids, which can be especially beneficial if you are planning on having more children, since you will want to keep things gender-neutral for now. A giraffe height chart can be fun in this room, as well as multi-colored bright walls with monkey, lion, and tiger wall decals.

So you see, no matter what age, stage, or gender that your kids are, it’s easy enough to find a theme that everyone can love. DealDash has a wonderful kid’s category with toys, baby supplies, furniture, and more. DealDash has kid’s auctions often. DealDash Decorates: Picking Paint

One of the best things about moving into my new house last year was getting to pick the paint color for every room. If you’re looking to refresh your room colors, read on.

When coming to my house for the first time a lot of people tend to comment on the colors of the rooms of my house. They are all different colors, but somehow it’s all pulled together and looks cohesive together. The yellow leads into the beige which leads into the blue which leads into the gray. If you have ever been interested in getting rid of your plain white walls let me give you a quick primer (primer, get it?!) on how you can turn your “Blah” into “WOW!”

Most newer homes feature open floor plans, and that is the case in my home. After coming in the front door you can stand in any of four connecting rooms—kitchen, family room, playroom, and dining room—and see portions of the other rooms. Each of the rooms is a different color as I mentioned before, but to tie everything together all of the molding is the same shade of bright white. I also have continuity by using the color brown as an accent in all of the rooms. Both the playroom and the family room have the same shade of brown microfiber couches, and my kitchen countertops, island, and dining room table are all brown and white granite. The key is to pick a color that blends well with all of the room colors that you are interested in and be sure to use your chosen accent color prominently in each room.

When we were working with our real estate agent to help us choose our colors to give to the builder she taught me a secret that I will now share with you. She told me to go to the hardware store and pick up paint chips with multiple shades of the colors that I wanted in each room, and to circle the shade of each color that I was interested in. After giving them back to her she crossed out all of my circled shades and picked the one that was 1 shade lighter than the ones that I had chosen. Why? Because when you look at a small paint chip versus the color being painted on the wall the wall color tends to be darker and more pronounced than on the paint chip. When she first did this I was unhappy, but when we came back a few days later to see the paint on the walls, it was amazing! Once the walls were painted they looked exactly like the colors that I had originally chosen.

Another great way to get your rooms to flow together when painting all of the rooms different colors is to have a common theme when decorating. DealDash has recently partnered with some amazing companies that have some beautiful paintings and decorative items. If you are doing some redecorating be sure to check out DealDash’s items for the home at this link right here. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!
