DealDash Makes Kid-Safe Cleaners

dealdash kid cleaners

Kids are great – they are funny, cute, and want to be like you. Let them help you clean with these kid-safe cleaners from DealDash.

Every little kid wants to be like their mommy, daddy, or grandparent. Put that wonderful fact to good use by letting them help you clean. But wait – those cleaners full of chemicals can be dangerous to little people who might accidentally get it in their eyes or mouth. Fix that dangerous problem by making some homemade cleaners with ingredients that are kid-safe. Here are some ideas from DealDash.

What Do I Need to Get Started?

  • A few spray bottles. You can purchase some from the dollar store, or clean out your old ones and reuse them.
  • Box of baking soda.
  • Table salt.
  • Bottle of white distilled vinegar.
  • Natural liquid soap, such as Dr. Bronner’s or Mrs. Meyer’s.
  • Water
  • Organic essential oils – Your choice, but some good ones to keep on hand are tea tree, lavender, and lemongrass.
  • You can use paper towels to clean, or re-use old rags

What Different Cleaners Can I Make?

  • Window cleaner
  • All-purpose cleaner
  • Toilet cleaner
  • Mold killer
  • Many others

How Do I Make These Kid- Safe Cleaners?

  • Window cleaner – Mix 3 tablespoons white vinegar with 2 cups of water (or for a bigger job – 1/2 cup vinegar to 1 gallon water) and spray directly onto your windows.

Vinegar works great on glass, however it’s rather stinky. If you prefer a non-vinegary window cleaner, you can also use straight fresh lemon juice or club soda to get your windows and other glass items sparkling clean. I personally prefer the vinegar, though, because it can kill (some) kinds of bacteria as well as making the glass shine. Vinegar is great to use in kid-safe cleaning products, and it’s also pet-safe as well.

  • All-purpose cleaner – Mix 2 cups water, a few drops of natural soap, and 15 drops each of tea tree and lavender organic essential oil. You can spray this on many kinds of home surfaces such as fabric furniture, baby changing tables, cutting boards, welcome mats, toilets, bath mats, sinks, walls, and more. However, don’t use this on glass, it will cause streaking.
  • Toilet cleaner – Add vinegar, lemon juice, and baking soda to the toilet bowl and let it sit for 10 minutes. Scrub with a toilet brush. This concoction will also clean sinks to sparkling clean.
  • Mold killer – To kill mold or prevent it from growing, mix two cups of water and three drops of tea tree essential oil. Once per week, spray your walls (especially in damp places such as the bathroom and laundry room) with this solution and wipe dry. This mixture fights stains and the natural antiseptic qualities of tea tree oil prevents mold and mildew from growing.

Teach Your Kids, Keep Them Safe

Remember, it’s your responsibility to your kids to teach them how to do chores and clean the house. Otherwise, who will? Start them young, and let them help you clean using these kid-safe cleaners.

DealDash Recipe – Mushroom Risotto

DealDash Mushroom Risotto

Mushroom risotto is not only delicious but very versatile as well. Here is a yummy recipe from DealDash.

Risotto is a delicious Italian rice dish that is easily customized to your taste once you get the optimal technique down. This isn’t your garden variety white rice which cooks without any babysitting needed in a rice cooker. Risotto needs to be stirred and watched the entire time it is on the stove. The result is worth it, though. Mushroom risotto is a rich, creamy, and textured rice that can be served as an appetizer, main course, or side dish. Here is a recipe from DealDash for you to enjoy.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups arborio rice.
  • 1 lb sliced portobello and/or crimini mushrooms
  • 1 small onion
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 tablespoon of butter
  • 3 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 6-8 cups of chicken, vegetable, or beef broth
  • 1/2-1 cup dry white wine, like a Sauvignon Blanc
  • Salt & Pepper, to taste

Directions

  1. Heat 3 tablespoons olive oil in your largest skillet on medium heat.
  2. Dice 1 small onion and 2 cloves of garlic and add to the oil.
  3. Remove stems, and thinly slice your mushrooms while the onions & garlic cook.
  4. Add the mushrooms to the skillet after 3-4 minutes
  5. Add salt and pepper and stir to coat the mushrooms in oil.
  6. Using a sauce pot, heat up 6 cups of broth while the mushrooms are cooking. Do not heat all the way to boiling.
  7. Cook the mushrooms for 3-5 minutes
  8. Add 1 tablespoon of butter
  9. Add the 2 cups of arborio rice and constantly stir. Once the butter has melted, add the rice and stir so that it is coated with the oil and butter. Cook for 1 minute before adding any liquid.
  10. Add 1/2 cup of white wine. Add the white wine and stir into the rice. Cook together until almost all of the wine is evaporated or absorbed into the rice.
  11. Add one ladle of hot broth. Once the wine is absorbed, use a ladle to add the first cup of broth to the rice mixture
  12. Constantly stir the broth and rice. You cannot stir risotto enough.
  13. Add another cup of broth once the first has been absorbed. Once most of the broth has been absorbed by the rice, add another cup.
  14. Repeat until the broth is gone or the rice is your desired consistency. The rice should be slightly firm and creamy, but never mushy.
  15. Repeat until the broth is gone or the rice is your desired consistency. The rice should be slightly firm and creamy, but not mushy.

Delicious and Versatile

You can add any extra ingredients that you would like to the mushroom risotto such as cheese, truffle oil, spices, or even meat to bulk it up into a main course. See how versatile it is?

DealDash Winter Weekend Fun Ideas

DealDash winter snow fun

Winter, snow, and fun aren’t normally words that I would put together. However, here are some ideas from DealDash to make this wintery weekend lots of fun.

No matter what the weather outside it seems like my kids always want to go outside and play. I guess that’s what I get for limiting their screen time! Being originally from North Carolina I have an intense dislike of Boston winters, but I try to find fun outside activities anyway. Here are some fun outdoor activities from DealDash that you can do in winter. Some are for kids specifically, and some are for anyone 5-95!

Snow Painting

No, you don’t use real paint for snow painting, though it does require a couple of materials that you will have to be sure that you have on hand. You’ll need a clean squeeze bottle of any kind such as a ketchup, mustard, or shampoo bottle. You can also buy bottles at the dollar store that are meant to store ketchup and mustard. When you have your empty (clean) squeeze bottles, fill them with water that is colored with food coloring. Take them outside and draw pictures on the snow.

Snow Creatures

If the kids are tired of making the same old snowman every snowstorm, why not try to make snow creatures next time instead? There are plenty of critters that are fairly simple to make out of the snow such as a sea turtle or a snake.

You don’t have to stick to real animals, either! Have a contest to see who can make the most interesting snow creature using the snow and whatever other materials that can be found in your yard such as stones, sticks, leaves, etc.

Winter Walk & Animal Hunt

Not that kind of hunting! Before you leave your house make a checklist of animals that you are reasonably likely to see in your neighborhood or local park such as rabbits, birds, squirrels, skunks, possums, deer, etc. See if you can find all of the animals on your checklist.

Snow Throw

Make a large bullseye target out of a cardboard box and take it outside. Mount it in a tree, on a fence, or on top of the car. See who can get the most direct hits to the target with snowballs. You could also make multiple targets and put them at different distances so younger and older players have a fair playing field.

If you decide to stay indoors instead, don’t forget to read the DealDash Tips  and Reviews Blogs daily to stay “in the loop” when it comes up upcoming DealDash promotions and sales.

DealDash Advises on Laundry Stain Removal

DEALDASH laundry stain removal

Washing your clothing is easy, but what about when there’s a tough stain? Here are some suggestions and tips for laundry stain removal from DealDash.

It’s happened to the best of us – you’re out to dinner and you get a drop of red wine, sauce, or other food stain on your brand new light-colored shirt. Or perhaps it wasn’t you, but one of your kids spilling something on your outfit when you’re out in public. You attempt to rub it off with a napkin, but it only gets worse. You aren’t headed back home for hours, are you doomed to have a stained outfit? Maybe – but maybe not! Read these helpful tips from DealDash for removing laundry stains from your clothing.

Ink

Did your or your husband get ink on your clothing at work? Or maybe it was the kids playing in the pen drawer! Is it possible to get out ink stains? Yep! Grab a can of hairspray! It might sound a little strange, but the alcohol in the spray will help to lift the ink from the fabric – apply directly onto the stain, leave on for 30 – 45 seconds, and wipe away with a damp cloth. Launder after.

Paint

It’s possible to get paint out of clothing, and luckily most paint that is marketed towards children is water-based (acrylic) This paint can be removed by rinsing the back of the stain with warm water. Next, wash in the machine with your regular laundry detergent.

Unfortunately, oil-based paint is a little bit trickier. First, check garment care label and do not attempt this method if your clothing is made from rayon, acetate or triacetate. Next, test on an inconspicuous area of the garment first. Be sure to wear rubber gloves. If this doesn’t work, take it to the dry cleaners. Maybe they will have better luck.

Blood

Small cuts and scrapes can result in tough blood stains. The trick here is to use cold water to rinse the affected garment – hot water will merely set the stain further. Try spraying or pouring on a little hydrogen peroxide before you rinse the garment in cold water. It should bubble away most of the blood.

Tomato Sauce / Ketchup

Amazingly,  lemons can help get rid of many red sauce stains. The acidity in the lemon juice works to cut through the oil – just rub a cut lemon over the stain before rinsing with water.

DealDash Plays Indoor Sports for Kids

dealdash indoor games

Having little kids is exhausting. Here are some more fun indoor sports you can play to tire them out.

By this time everyone probably knows that I have three little kids, two of which are a handful! There are a few upcoming days off of school before February Vacation starts later on in the month, so I am trying to be prepared. Here are a few fun indoor sports ideas that I have come up with to keep the kids busy. If you’re a busy parent or grandparent, you’ll want to try these, too. Let DealDash show you some tips and tricks to keep the little ones busy.

Indoor Mini Golf

Indoor mini golf requires a few materials, so when you get some free time you’ll want to hit the dollar store. You’ll need some cheapie plastic golf clubs – 1 for each kid. If your dollar store doesn’t have them you can make do with the long cardboard tubes that wrapping paper comes on. You’ll also need some golf balls if your kids are a bit older, or ping pong balls if they’re younger. And boxes. Lots of boxes of varying sizes.

Basically, the idea is to make an indoor mini golf course using the boxes. Simply cut out a little door for them to hit the ball into. You can place the boxes in different areas of your house, make little ramps that they have to shoot the ball up, and little tunnels to shoot the ball through.

The best part about this game is that the boxes can be rearranged as many times as you like, so it can be played for hours. You can also save the boxes in a closet or basement for the next time they want to play, and it will be a lot less preparation next time.

Indoor Bowling

Continuing the fun, indoor bowling is up next. This is another game that you can use items around the house or go out and purchase a lightweight bowling set. I prefer to get crafty (and frugal) and make my own things.

A great way to make your indoor bowling pins are water bottles. I suggest saving up your empty water bottles for a couple of weeks until you have 10 of them. Once you have 10 you can either paint them white, let the kids decorate them, or just leave them as they are. It’s your choice, but I find painting them with acrylic craft paint to be the most fun and entertaining for the kids.

For older kids, fill up the water bottles about halfway to give them some weight, and line them up at the end of your hallway. Place a line of painter’s tape or washi tape as the starting line. Grab a medium-sized indoor ball and start bowling! For younger kids you can fill them only a tiny bit for stability, and use less bottles if you prefer.

See who can bowl the first strike! The youngest player gets to go first. Have fun!

DealDash Watches the Stars

DealDash galaxy

Astronomy is a fascinating hobby and is great for all ages. Let DealDash help get you starting in your stargazing.

One of the most interesting things about backyard astronomy is you don’t really need anything to get started. Of course, you will be able to see more things and probably enjoy it more with a telescope or even binoculars, However, all you really need to do to get started in backyard astronomy is to look up into the night sky. Let DealDash help!

Backyard Astronomy is Great for Families

Kids of all ages can join you in your new backyard astronomy hobby. I personally remember when I was a child my parents bought an inexpensive telescope and we spent many happy hours gazing into the sky in the evenings before bedtime. Happy memories, those.

What will you need for a little backyard astronomy with the family? Not much! If you are planning on watching the stars in the summer, a blanket that’s large enough for everyone to sit on is great, or perhaps you could each use your beach towels for personal star-gazing space. You’ll also want to be sure to spray yourselves with bug spray, there’s nothing worse than getting an armful of mosquito bites after an evening of stargazing.

Constellations Not Necessary

Learning some of the easier constellations such as the Big and Little Dipper is nice to do, but if you have smaller kids that might be a little too tricky for them. Why not make up a game instead, like “connect the dots” using the brightest stars? You can also have them make up their own constellations, that’s what people did in the past, and those are the constellations we see today.

Look for Shooting Stars

Looking for shooting stars is also a very fun astronomy activity. Interestingly enough, shooting stars really aren’t stars. They are actually just tiny dust particles falling through our atmosphere and they vaporize due to the heat of friction with the atmospheric gasses. Don’t tell the kids that, though! The concept of shooting stars is much more fun, and who wants to make a wish on a tiny dust particle, anyway?

I hope that you found this new DealDash article on backyard astronomy interesting. If you are shopping for a telescope, binoculars, home item, or other, be sure that you check DealDash first. How fully stocked is your pantry? Do you feel confident that you and your family could survive for a few weeks on just the products in the pantry if you needed to?

Even if you don’t live in an area of the country that’s prone to natural disasters, it’s a smart idea to keep a fully stocked pantry for big emergencies as well as other unforeseen events such as illness or job loss. Having a fully stocked pantry also means that you’ll be well-equipped to put together a family-friendly meal or a last-minute dinner for friends. DealDash Talks: Lessons I Have Learned From My Children

DealDash Lessons Children

Aren’t children such funny tiny little people? They can teach you some amazing life lessons without even realizing it.

Children of all ages have life lessons to teach you, all you have to do is really listen to what they are saying. Many people don’t really pay attention when their kids are trying to talk to them, but you should really take the time to listen. You might learn something. Here are some tips from DealDash.

Friendship Problems Can Be Fixed

As adults it seems like the moment that a friend says or does something that you don’t like you unfriend them on Facebook, block them on your phone, and move on with your life. However, kids rarely seem to think that way. A child can say something mean to their friend at school, or even get into a fistfight, yet the next day they are friends again. How do they do this?

How do they do this? Children have a large capacity for forgiveness. It’s not wise to forgive someone when they disappoint you over and over again, but if a friend makes a mistake here and there, try to forgive them and move on from the problem.

Excitement About Little Things

Children frequently get excited about the smallest things such as a trip to the playground, a kid’s meal for dinner, or stickers. However, most adults are harder to excite, and there are some adults who seem to never get excited about anything. Life is definitely more pleasant when there is excitement and a sense of wonder about the world around us.

Anticipation

Going hand-in-hand with excitement about the little things is anticipation about things in the future. Children look forward to and anticipate many things such as an outing on the weekend or a visit from Grandma. And don’t forget the many holidays that we have throughout the year. Sometimes the week is a little tough for adults to get through. Having something to look forward to can really help you get through the rough spots in the day.

DealDash Deals With Tantrums

DealDash Deals Tantrums

Dealing with a toddler usually means tantrums. Let DealDash help you deal with tantrums without too many tears.

When your child or grandchild is having a tantrum it can be extremely frustrating. Luckily, though, tantrums are usually a short-lived phase in your little one’s life. Until they have gained a little maturity, though, tantrums can be embarrassing, frustrating, and annoying. It might make you feel a little better to know that your child probably isn’t enjoying it, either.

Tantrums are the way to express his/her frustration when they are having trouble communicating. Most children that are young enough to still have regular tantrums don’t yet have the language skills to express in words what is bothering them. It could be anything from hunger, tiredness, or their socks are itchy. If they don’t have the words to tell you the problem, they rely on the tantrum to get your attention so that you can fix their problem. Luckily, there are a few ways that you can deal with these tantrums. Here are some ideas from DealDash.

Be Attentive

Your child develops a sense of happiness and self-esteem as you continually help him/her with their wants and needs, so try your best to fulfill the “requests” whenever possible and practical. If you can’t give your little one what he wants try offering something else in its place. If ice cream is the request, try offering something such as juice or a piece of fruit instead.

Stay Calm

When your little one is having a tantrum, try your best to be calm and neutral even if you are feeling upset or frustrated. Try not to engage too much with your child when they are having a tantrum. Too much attention will just teach them that they get extra attention when they are acting out, and everyone knows how much kids love attention! Acknowledge their feelings of anger, frustration, or whatever you think that the problem might be, but after that just sit quietly and let them get it out of their system

Distraction is a Tool

You can probably tell when your child is about to have a tantrum, and if you can catch it before it starts you might be able to avoid it altogether. Once a tantrum starts it’s fairly difficult to stop, so try to stop it before it starts. A great way to distract a small child is with toys, of course.

DealDash has toys that are both fun and educational that would be great for distracting a toddler. If you are looking for outdoor toys, indoor toys, learning toys, or just toys to cuddle be sure to check out DealDash. DealDash has toys for kids of all ages and stages. Visit DealDash now. DealDash Boosts Your Self-Esteem

Image result for self-esteem

Do you or someone you know have low self-esteem? DealDash is here to help you realize that you’re great!

Having low self-esteem can make life harder than it needs to be. When someone has low self-esteem they tend to be quiet and withdrawn and take fewer chances in life. Many times those chances could have led to great things such as a new job or relationship. Here are some tips from DealDash to help boost your self-esteem.

No One is Perfect

There is not a person out there that doesn’t have a flaw – none of us are perfect. We all have our faults. When you have low self-esteem it appears that everyone around you does things better, faster, and more efficiently than you. You might think that people are looking at you and judging you. These things are mostly in your head, though. We are all imperfect, we should strive to do our best in life but realize that we all make mistakes.

Be Kind to Yourself

Someone who has low self-esteem is usually their own worst critic. If they make a mistake they tend to berate themselves and it ruins their day. However, if someone else such as a friend, family member, or co-worker made the same mistake they would say something such as “It’s okay, you can try again.” or “It doesn’t matter, you will get it right the next time.” Why shouldn’t you treat yourself with as much compassion as you would someone else? Be kind to yourself, treat yourself compassionately.

Let Go of Past Mistakes

If you have self-esteem issues you are probably focusing too much on the past, wondering how you could have done things differently. Instead of focusing on the past you should set your sights on the future and how you can improve your situation. Don’t dwell in the past! It’s over and done with! Shake it off and get out there and do your best.

Do Something for Yourself

Working on boosting your self-esteem can be hard work! Why not take some time out to pamper yourself and pat yourself on the back for doing such a good job? Take a walk, get yourself a coffee, or win yourself something nice on DealDash! DealDash offers nice items for pampering yourself such as art, perfume, and decorative candles.

I hope that you found this article on taking care of your self-esteem helpful. Be sure to check back here as well as our sister blog DealDash Tips every day for fresh new articles. DealDash Plays Games with Family

Image result for game night

DealDash thinks that a family game night is a great time to bond and have a fun time while you’re at it!

What could be more fun than playing games with your family? If your kids are elementary school or younger they will probably love the idea. If they’re a little bit older they may need a little bit of cajoling to get them excited about the game plan. Once you’ve had a few game nights, I bet they will be looking forward to the next DealDash Family Game Night.

Types of Games

You can play board games, there are different types of games for all age ranges, even non-readers. DealDash Examines Baby Food

DealDash Baby

Do you have a little baby that is going to be trying solids soon? DealDash is here to explain what some of your options are when choosing baby food.

Everyone has an opinion when it comes to your baby, and most people mean well when they try to give you advice. If you are unsure what you should be feeding your baby you should ask your baby’s doctor, first. You might end up feeling overwhelmed with all of the different options out there to choose from. Here are some ideas from DealDash.

Baby Cereal & Baby Oatmeal

Baby cereal and baby oatmeal are the first solids that a baby usually tries when they are ready to move beyond milk and formula. These foods are very similar, they come in a powder form that you can mix with milk, formula, or water. You can add more or less liquid to make them thin and soupy or thicker like regular oatmeal. When you first give these to your baby you will want to make them very thin and soupy and gradually thicken them up.

Rice Husk Baby Crackers

Baby crackers made of rice husks are also a very popular beginner food for your baby. When your baby is able to sit on their own they should be able to eat these crackers with supervision. These crackers melt when your baby gums them, and they can feel very soothing on their gums when they are teething.

Jarred Baby Food

Jarred baby food is usually the next step after your baby is comfortable with the baby cereal and baby oatmeal. Typically you would start with jars that are made of a single fruit or vegetable and move your way up to jars that have multiple fruits and veggies combined. That way you can see which ones your baby likes best, dislikes, and most importantly to see if your baby has an allergy to any of them.

Baby Food Pouches

Baby food pouches are becoming very popular, they are great for taking on-the-go because you can squirt them directly into your baby’s mouth instead of having to remember to bring a spoon. They are also great for babies that are a little older and can suck the food directly from the pouch themselves.

Cheerios

Cheerios are a beloved food of almost every baby, toddler, and kid. Plain Cheerios are a great snack food for your baby and are inexpensive and fun to eat. They are a safer food since they are small with a hole in the middle to prevent choking. Cheerios are great for babies that have a couple of teeth to chew with.

Homemade

Homemade baby food is the freshest and healthiest food available for your baby. Unfortunately, it takes quite a bit of time, effort, and clean up to make your own baby food. If you have time on a weekend, though, you can make large batches of baby food and freeze them in small batches to use throughout the week. If you’re interested in making your own baby food it’s fairly simple and all you really need is a food processor.

DealDash Finds Beauty in the Little Things

DealDash Reviewed

Are you feeling a little annoyed at the snow, wondering when Spring will be here? It’s going to be a little while longer. Enjoy the little things.

Winter is so dark and dreary, I for one yearn to see the fresh new blades of grass and flower blooms that come with Spring. It’s so nice to see all of the little birds and animals come out of hiding when the new vegetation starts to sprout. Unfortunately, that’s still a little while off, Spring officially starts on March 20th, so we still have a couple of months left to go. Let’s try to delight in the little things that come with winter.

Yummy Hot Drinks

Most people love hot coffee, and many others love tea, hot chocolate, and apple cider. These drinks are definitely more popular in the winter, who wants to drink hot apple cider in May? It’s very relaxing to hold a nice hot beverage and sit by the fireplace in your favorite chair.

Sweaters and Jackets

Maybe I’m a little strange, but I love sweaters, hoodies, and winter jackets! I love to get bundled up in my winter gear and be cozy and toasty warm even when the weather is cool outside. Also, I spend so much money on winter clothes, it seems like a waste to not use them enough!

Snuggling

Snuggling with a spouse, child, or pet is always a fun winter activity. My daughter loves to snuggle with me on the couch every day, she calls it our “appointment.” It’s also fun to get the whole family snuggled up on the couch together and watch a movie. These things just don’t happen in the summer! The winter promotes cuddles.

Holidays

The holidays are over now, but they are definitely a good part of winter. No matter what holiday you celebrate, I bet that there’s one in winter that you enjoy. The holidays usually mean getting together with extended family as well, so that’s another point in winter’s favor!

I hope that you found this article on winter helpful. Be sure to check back here on DealDash Reviewed as well as our sister blog DealDash Tips every day for fresh new articles. DealDash Helps: Be the Best You

DealDash Be Best You

We should all try to be our best selves, but sometimes we need a little help. DealDash is here with helpful tips.

Moving towards being your best self begins with loving and accepting yourself how you are at this particular moment. Everyone has a little room for improvement, but you should love yourself regardless if you have met your personal goals yet or not. Being the best “you” that you can be doesn’t mean that you have to be perfect. Embrace your small imperfections and strive for your goals. DealDash has tips for changing your outlook.

Stop Holding Yourself Back

If you think about your life, the main thing that might be holding you back is self-doubt. Get rid of the negative thinking, and instead think of small ways that you can improve yourself. For instance, if you are striving to run in a marathon, you aren’t going to be able to do that without training. Make a list of increasingly harder goals that lead up to being able to run the 26.2 miles that you ultimately want to achieve.

Stop Putting Things Off

Procrastination can be a major roadblock on the road to self-improvement. If you feel that you’ve set your goals a little too high for yourself don’t put things off until you eventually just give up! Break those goals down into smaller goals and work on them a little at a time. Wouldn’t you rather be 10% of the way to your goal than nothing? Stop the procrastination and get moving towards a better self.

Don’t Be a “Yes Man (or Woman)”

Are you the type of person to automatically respond “YES” to any favor or request that people make? If so, you might be sabotaging your own goals by spending your time and energy on everyone else and having nothing left for yourself. It’s a wonderful thing to help other people and be available for them, but you need to be sure that you aren’t spreading yourself too thin. Instead of immediately replying “yes” to other people’s requests, just tell them that you’ll think about it and let them know later.

Instead of immediately replying “yes” to other people’s requests, just tell them that you’ll think about it and let them know later. Give their request some thought, and reply to them within 24-48 hours. Saying yes is great, but it’s okay to say “no” sometimes as well.

I hope that you found this article on taking care of yourself helpful. Be sure to check back here as well as our sister blog DealDash Tips every day for fresh new articles. If you need anything to pamper yourself be sure to check DealDash first. DealDash has items for you! Visit DealDash now. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!

DealDash Bakes Delicious Bread

Image result for bake bread

Who doesn’t love fresh, hot from the oven baked bread? Baking bread doesn’t have to be difficult.

Now that the holidays are over and you have more time on your hands it’s time to expand your cooking horizons. Cook more from scratch than buying premade at the supermarket is a great way to know exactly what you’re putting into your body. Here’s a tip – it’s also a great way to save money, as cooking from scratch can be cheaper once you have purchased the basic ingredients, and can get many batches out of them. Now let’s bake some bread with DealDash!

White Bread Ingredients:

Makes 2 loaves

  • 2 teaspoons active-dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 cup milk – 2%, or skim is best for counting your calories
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 5 1/2 – 6 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

You also need a stand mixer, a large mixing bowl

Directions:

  • Pour the water into the bowl of a standing mixer or large mixing bowl and sprinkle the yeast over top. Let this stand for 5 minutes until the yeast is dissolved.
  • Melt the butter in the microwave, slowly stir in the milk, sugar, and salt.
  • Pour 1 cup of flour and the milk mixture over the yeast.
  • Stir with the stand mixer until this comes together in a texture similar to brownie batter
  • Add another 4 1/2 cups of flour, reserving the remaining cup if the dough is sticky during kneading.
  • Stir until a floury dough is formed.
  • Swap out the mixing attachment for the dough hook attachment on a standing mixer, then knead the dough for 8-10 minutes. If you don’t have a dough hook attachment for your stand mixer you can knead this dough by hand.
  • The dough is done when it feels smooth, slightly tacky, and can form a ball without sagging. If the dough is too sticky when mixing, you can add flour a tablespoon or so at a time until it’s tacky, not sticky.
  • Using another bowl, lightly coat the bowl with a little oil. Form the dough into a ball and rotate it in the bowl to coat the dough ball with oil.
  • Cover the bowl and let the dough rise in a warm spot until doubled in bulk. This will take approximately one hour.
  • Sprinkle a little flour on your counter workspace and place the dough on it, dividing the dough in two and shape each into a loose ball. Let these rest on the counter for a few minutes.
  • Shape each ball of dough into a loaf, place them on pre-greased loaf pans. It’s important that the surface of the loaves be stretched taut; this helps them rise. Let the loaves rise a second time until they start to dome over the edge of the pan, this will take approximately minutes.
  • While your dough is rising, heat the oven to 425° F
  • Cut a line down the center of the tops of the loaves with a serrated knife and put them in the oven. Immediately turn down the heat to 375°F and bake for 30-35 minutes.
  • Remove the loaves from the pans and let them cool completely before slicing.

I hope that you enjoy your home-baked bread! This bread is delicious and easy to make once you have done it a few times. If you need any items for your kitchen such as a stand mixer check DealDash. DealDash has everything for your kitchen including KitchenAid mixers. Visit DealDash Now.

DealDash Helps you Be a True Friend

dealdash friend

Having friends is a wonderful thing. Here are some tips for how to become a true friend.

Almost everyone has a few friends. There are lots of different kinds of friends – work friends, school friends, acquaintances, best friends, internet friends, casual friends, sports friends, etc. There are many things that you can do to improve your friendships. Here are some tips from DealDash to become a great friend that everyone wants to spend time with and enjoy your company.

Be Available

No matter if your friend lives next door or in a different country, to be a great friend you need to make yourself available for chatting, texting, skyping, or getting together. You can have friends close to your or far away if you choose to make the effort. If you are able to make the time for your friendships, you can make your friend feel both appreciated and supported. Make it a point to be available to nurture your relationships.

Be loyal

Don’t be a fair-weather friend. Stick with your friends in the good times and the bad. Don’t run away when times get tough, be there for your friends when they are having a difficult time in life, even if it makes your life a little harder. Being loyal means sticking with your friends through the thick and thin, never turning your back on them in bad times.

Be trustworthy

Never spread gossip about your friends, try to be the kind of person who everyone trusts with their secrets. Here’s a tip – being trustworthy is an excellent character trait, and it would behoove you to try to be as trustworthy as possible. Trustworthiness will benefit you in other parts of your life as well as help you in being a great friend.

Don’t be petty

Everyone has a few minor character flaws and being petty doesn’t help friendships in any way. Occasionally friendships are completely one-sided, but for the most part things even out in a friendship. Maybe you have been the one to go visit your friend more often, or call them first, or always be the one to send emails. Instead of being petty and holding a grudge over these little things, why not talk to them about it instead?

DealDash Looks Forward to January

DealDash January

T.S. Eliot is known to have said that “April is the cruelest month.” Though some people would argue that it’s January. Let’s think of some things to look forward to in January.

“What’s good about January?” You might ask. Well, aside from celebrating a fine new year, there are many nice things about January. Many amazing people were born in January, including Paul Revere, Joan of Arc, Nicholas Cage, Edger Allen Poe, and my very own little baby, who turns 1 year old this January!

In addition to some amazing people being born in January, there is also the mild feeling of relief that all of the holiday preparations. Decorating and shopping are behind us again for another 10 months or so. Most people love the holidays, but also love them when they are over as well!

Now that it’s the beginning of the year again, we can all start with a fresh, clean slate ahead of us. Now is a great time of year to let go of all of the small grudges or bad feelings that you might have. You can try to mend fences with anyone that you are on “the outs” with, and hopefully forgive and forget.

Thinking positively…

Speaking of thinking positively here is a very cool idea that I read about a while back –  Someone suggested taking an empty jar and labeling it ‘Good Things’. Every time something good happens over the upcoming year, you stick a note into the jar as a reminder of happiness. Then, on New Year’s Eve, December 31st, you open the jar and look back on all the good things that have happened over the year. Isn’t that a cute idea? You could do this yourself, or have the whole family join in for more fun.

Finally, January is great for staying in, cuddling, watching movies, and drinking hot cocoa. In the summer I feel a little guilty when I keep the kids indoors since running and playing outside is so healthy for them. However, I don’t feel a single shred of guilt keeping them inside in the warmth when it’s so cold and yucky outside. For me, the best part of January is not having to go out in January weather!

Here’s a Fun Winter Craft from DealDash!

DealDash Mason Jar Snowglobe

Happy Christmas Eve friends! Here is a fun mason jar snow globe craft from DealDash that you can do over the weekend.

What says “winter” to you? If you asked my daughter, she would say “Snow globes!!” She collects them and has loved them ever since she was a 2-year-old. This is a fun craft that you can do to pass the time over the weekend. If you have the supplies handy it would be a great craft to do if you have any children visiting you for the holidays.

Materials:

  • A mason jar (You can get these at Target, Wal*Mart, etc.)
  • Water
  • Pure glycerin (You can get this at Jo-Anne’s Fabric, CVS, Wal-Green’s for around $5 – it’s used as a deep skin moisturizer)
  • Glitter
  • Waterproof craft glue, super glue, or epoxy
  • Small, waterproof toys or even laminated photos to put inside your snow globe

Directions:

1.Take your mason jar lid off of the jar and place your toys, photos, ceramic or glass figurines, or whatever you have chosen to put inside Remember, it has to be waterproof. Make sure they are not too tall so you able to close your jar once they have been glued in place. When you’re happy with the placement, use your waterproof craft glue to glue them to the inside of your lid. You will need to let the glue dry for a while after this. If you are using super glue you can proceed to the next step after only a few minutes.

2.While you are waiting for the glue to dry, put 1 or 2 tablespoons of glitter into your jar to represent the snow. You can use all one color of glitter, or multi-colored. Add more if you like lots of snow, or  less if you aren’t as much of a fan.

3.Pour some water into the jar, but be very careful not to fill the jar all the way up, because your toys will displace some of that water when you screw on the lid of the mason jar. Your water line should not reach all the way to the brim, if it does you are going to have a bit of a mess when you add the lid onto the jar.

4.Add approximately 5 drops of glycerin to the water. The glycerin thickens up the water so the glitter snow will fall slowly when you shake the snow globe.

5.Lastly, when the toys you have glued to the lid are completely dry, apply craft glue (or super glue or epoxy) around the rim and threads of the mason jar to keep the snow globe full of water and not slowly leak out. Also be sure to apply glue to the outside seam of the lid to help keep it watertight. You should check this seal periodically to make sure that it’s still tight.

6.Shake, shake shake!

DealDash Helps Connect to Family

DealDash connects family

When your family lives far away it’s hard to connect. Let DealDash help you.

I bet you’re wondering how a shopping entertainment website can help you connect with your family. The number one way to keep in touch with your family is the internet, of course, and DealDash can help you keep up with the latest in technology. There are other ways to connect to your family, of course, but let’s talk about the technological ones first.

Video calls. You can use Skype, Facetime, or any number of smaller websites to video chat with your loved ones. You’ll need a current computer or tablet, though, so be sure that you check out DealDash‘s electronics and computers category to make sure that you’re up to date.

Another fun way to keep in touch with far away family members is group messaging on your smartphone. It’s easy to add multiple people to a group chat on your phone’s texting program, and you can keep in touch with family members, and help other family members stay connected to each other, as well. If you’re looking for a new smartphone, be sure to check DealDash first.

There are many other websites that have social media aspects that you can take advantage of so you can stay connected to family. A few of my favorites are Pinterest, My Fitness Pal, YouTube, and Twitter. By using these sites you can keep in touch with family and also make some new friends.

All of the above ways make use of modern technology that some of your older relatives might not understand or want to use. For these relatives, you will have to either call them on the phone or send them something in the mail. If you’re not really a phone person (I’m not!) it might be more fun to get postcards and write your older relatives a short message on a postcard every few weeks. If you’d prefer something more personalized, you can print out some photos on 4X6 photo paper and use those as postcards.

Lastly, everyone from kids on up to seniors would enjoy getting a small package in the mail. Collect a few things that remind you of the recipient such as a favorite candy, pictures, a magazine, or maybe even one of your wins from DealDash and send it out! Your relative will be so excited to get a fun package in the mail and will be sure to think of you fondly.

I hope that you found this DealDash article helpful. If you need anything such as a new computer, tablet, or gift be sure to check DealDash first. DealDash has everything you need for the home. Visit DealDash now. Good luck and happy bidding everyone.

Being Thankful, With DealDash

Image result for so thankful

I post a lot about being thankful because I am so very thankful for every day. All of us should take the time to be thankful for the little things.

With all of the bad things that we hear on the news and read online sometimes the world seems like a scary place. If you stop and think, though, there are so many wonderful things that happen every day we should try and concentrate on the good things in life instead of the bad ones. Here is an entire DealDash article dedicated to some awesome things in life.

Family. My kids and my husband are always at the very top of any list about being thankful. No matter how sad or down I can get sometimes my family can always cheer me up. Just today I was feeling sad, and my 5 year old daughter came over to me and handed me a drawing of our family and said “Here, if you ever miss me, just look at this!” See? How can I be sad after that interaction?

Emotions. Happy, lonely, excited, sad, jubilant – no matter what emotion you are feeling at the moment it’s great to feel alive. No matter what emotion you are feeling in the moment it will be a different feeling and emotion by the next day. How exciting!

Books and Movies. Isn’t it nice to be able to escape for a few hours into a good book or movie? You can travel back in time, to space, underwater, or just about anywhere that you would like to explore with a book or a movie.

Animals and Pets. Cuddling a warm furry dog, cat, or bunny can be very therapeutic. It’s been scientifically proven that having a pet can lower your blood pressure, anxiety, and more. This even includes non-cuddly pets such as fish or lizards. If you can’t own a pet yourself and you love animals, maybe you could visit a dog park and look at the dogs playing, volunteer at an animal shelter, or spend time at an aquarium.

Naps. When the stars magically align and I’m able to take a nap – it’s a good as a present! After doing some research on naps, it seems like 20-30 minutes is the optimum length for a nap. Shorter just isn’t worth it, but any longer and you run the risk of getting into REM sleep. If you are woken up during REM sleep you will wake up groggier and more tired than you were before you took a nap.

DealDash. I always list DealDash as a thing that I am thankful for in my lists. DealDash provides entertainment, great deals, and happy feelings when I participate in auctions. DealDash auctions are definitely something to be thankful for! Go check out DealDash and see how much you can save. Good luck and happy bidding everyone! Image result for so thankful

DealDash Deals With Debbie Downers

DealDash Deals with Debbie Downers

A Debbie Downer is someone who is always mopey and has a negative outlook on life. Here are some ideas to stay positive in the face of negativity.

We all know of someone who is always negative about anything and everything, someone who never answers “Good” or “Great” when someone inquires about their day. We call those people “Debbie Downers.” No offense to anyone named Debbie, of course. Debbie Downers can be a little bit difficult to spend time with because they tend to draw other people into their negativity. Here are some ideas from DealDash to stay positive when spending time with a Debbie Downer.

The best way to avoid negativity is to limit the time that you spend with a Debbie Downer, but that might not be possible if they are a co-worker or a close relative. What you can do, however, is try and turn the negativity into positivity by turning their complaints around. If they were to say “It’s so gross and rainy outside.” You could say “Oh, I love the rain, my plants need the water.” It might not make your Debbie Downer feel better, but it might put you in a better frame of mind.

Another way to stop a Debbie Downer in her unhappy tracks is to pre-emptively spread a little happiness. There’s something that almost everyone likes, and that’s compliments. When you see your Debbie Downer, give her (or him!) a compliment. Tell them that their hair looks good today, that you like their outfit, or that they are just the person that you wanted to see. There’s nothing like a little compliment to make someone’s day a little brighter.

Having a positive attitude is a choice, and having a negative attitude is as well. Why waste the energy on having a negative attitude when you can use the same effort to have a positive outlook instead? Think of the things that make you happy and strive to have a good day.

What makes you happy and have a positive attitude? I always tell people that my hobby is shopping, and it’s true! There are few things that cheer me up (other than my family, of course) than doing a little entertainment shopping on DealDash. DealDash has beauty items, toys, fun family items, household things, and so much more. Visit DealDash now to see how much you can save. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!

DealDash’s Winter Skin Fixes – LIPS

DealDash Winter Skin Fixes

It’s Winter, so let’s face it – we’ve all got dry skin. Here are some Winter skin fixes for lips from DealDash to keep your lips feeling smooth til Spring.

Everyone get dry lips in the winter, even kids that normally have nice, smooth baby lips. The cold outside mixing with the dry air from heating inside just sucks all of the moisture right out of your skin. Luckily, there are plenty of small things that you can do to improve the look and texture of your winter lips. Here are some Winter skin fixes for lips from DealDash.

Your lips are sure to get dry, chapped, and cracked if you spend any time outdoors this winter. There are a few things that you can do to help soothe and even prevent the worst of the cracks from happening. The number one thing that you need to do for your lips in the winter is to keep some sort of balm on them anytime you go outside. It doesn’t matter if it’s a .99 Chapstick or the fanciest lip balm that they make, just make sure that your lips are covered when you’re outdoors in the cold weather.

Next, in keeping with the lips covered track, it would be a smart idea to put a dab of Vaseline on your lips at night before you go to sleep. Your skin does most of its repairs when you’re sleeping, so help it along with some ultra soothing Vaseline.

Finally, I would suggest exfoliating your lips every few days with an old toothbrush. Make sure that the toothbrush has soft or medium bristles, wet it slightly, and rub gently on your cracked, dry lips. Follow up with Vaseline for maximum effect.

Another thing to think about when trying to prevent dry and cracked winter skin is to get a humidifier for your bedroom. If you keep a humidifier running while you are sleeping at night it can keep your skin moist and help prevent chapping and cracking.

DealDash has an assortment of humidifiers to choose from. Go visit DealDash and browse the humidifiers. DealDash has great bargains every day. Just click this link to visit DealDash now. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!

DealDash Blog: Leaving Things Behind

Image result for free inspirational pictures

Instead of thinking ahead to the new year, and what we will achieve, let’s see what we can leave behind.

Hopefully, all of the DealDash Reviewed readers have had an excellent 2016. I have had a good year, with a few ups and downs, of course. Everyone is thinking ahead to the new year that’s coming soon, and that’s a productive thing to do, but I feel like it’s also important that we think about what we should leave behind with 2016 as well.

I’ve actually had a pretty bad year, health-wise. I had a very difficult labor and birth in January, and an emergency cholecystectomy in February. My health hasn’t been the same since, I’ve been in and out of the hospital all year. There’s nothing more that I would like to leave behind than my poor health. How can that be accomplished? Exercise, more sleep, eating healthier, and not overexerting myself, I would guess. I’m sure all of you that have had a bad 2016 due to your health would like to join me in leaving bad health behind.

Another thing that would be great to leave behind in 2016 is grudges, bad feelings, and disagreements with your friends and family. Being at odds with a close friend or family member can really put a damper on your enjoyment of life. Let’s leave behind those grudges, bad feelings, and disagreements with the people in your life that you care about.

If you’re having grudges, bad feelings, and disagreements with someone who isn’t a close friend or family member, maybe it’s time to leave them behind with 2016. Just because you have known someone for a long time, or lives close to you, or is a friend-of-a-friend doesn’t mean that you have to bring them into 2017 with you if you don’t want to.

There’s one last thing that we should all leave behind in 2016 and that’s insecurity. Insecurity causes so many problems in life – jealousy, depression, anger and more. Why not just be the best person that you can, and not worry about what everyone else is thinking? Leave that insecurity behind in 2016 and you will have a better 2017, guaranteed.

One thing that you don’t want to leave behind as we move into 2017, and that’s DealDash! DealDash has everything that you need for your home including electronics, baby & kitchen items, accessories, art, and more. Visit DealDash now to check out the auctions. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!

There’s a little less than two short weeks until Christmas is here, and three until the New Year. This is the perfect time to count out blessings with DealDash and be thankful for the good things in life.

Everyone’s life, wants, and needs are different, some of have many blessings and some of us have few. However, let’s try to come up with some blessings that are pretty much universal.

Family – Most people have a family, and the lucky ones have lots of family members. Family is there for you when you are sad and need comforting, and family is right there with you for your triumphs and celebrations. Family is a wonderful blessing to have.

Friends – They say that friends are the family that you choose for yourself. If you have one true friend, you are truly blessed. It’s also a blessing to have many friends as well, and one of the great things about friends are you can always expand your circle for more.

Health – Not everyone has the blessing of good health, but we should all be thankful for the days that we are feeling well. Good health is something that can change at any moment, so make the most of your healthy days, they are truly a blessing. If you’d like to have more healthy days try some low-impact exercise such as walking or gentle yoga.

Hobbies – Most people have a hobby that they enjoy that makes their life more enjoyable. Hobbies come in all forms, and no matter if your favorite hobby is fishing, reading, knitting, golf, baking, or something completely different we should all be thankful that we have something in our lives that we can enjoy in our leisure time.

Some of us have many blessings, and some of us have few – but there’s one great thing in our lives that we all have in common...DealDash! DealDash’s New Year List

screenshot-10

There are only a few short weeks left in the year. Here are 5 things you need to do before 2017 arrives.

How was your 2016? Mine was eventful – I had a baby boy, my daughter started school, my older son has been diagnosed with ADHD, it’s been a busy year! However, even though life has been busy, there are still a few things that need to be done before we say goodbye to 2016 and hello to 2017. Join me in doing DealDash’s 5 things before the new year.

1 – Organize your family’s closets. Dig out all of those too small, too tight, or too big clothing, those worn shoes, and those clothing gifts that you have never even worn. Donate them all and be proud of yourself for cleaning your house and helping others at the same time. Don’t forget to ask for a receipt at the donation drop-off, you can use that as a charitable donation on your taxes in April.Organize your “online life.” If you’re like many people, you probably have hundreds or even thousands of pictures cluttering up your online cloud, your computer, or your cell phone. Seriously, do you really need 126 pictures of your meals at different restaurants? Sure, they’re fun to post onto Instagram or Facebook when you’re actually at the restaurant so your friends can see what you’re doing, but once you’ve posted it why bother keeping the photo?

2 – Organize your “online life.” If you’re like many people, you probably have hundreds or even thousands of pictures cluttering up your online cloud, your computer, or your cell phone. Seriously, do you really need 126 pictures of your meals at different restaurants? Sure, they’re fun to post onto Instagram or Facebook when you’re actually at the restaurant so your friends can see what you’re doing, but once you’ve posted it why bother keeping the photo? And those of you with little kids that are hard to photograph – I know that you take about 20 blurry pictures to get 1 good one! Get rid of those blurry pictures that are cluttering up your cloud.

3 – Think of a few goals for 2017. They don’t need to be your typical resolution-type goals such as exercising or cutting back on drinking. They could be things that are more fun and personal to you such as making sure that you reach out to far-away friends once a month, or to learn to knit or to be a better driver. There are lots of things that you probably want to do a little differently next year, so make a list.

4 – Get a free credit report. Make sure that everything on your credit report is accurate and up to date. There are many free credit report websites and apps available, do your due diligence and read reviews on the companies before you request your report. You’ll be glad that you got your report and cleared up any mistakes so you can go forward into 2017 without worrying about it!

5 – Bid on DealDash. Do you have a bunch of bids hanging out on your account that you haven’t used yet? Bid on some great items and gift cards and clear them out for the new year so you can start fresh.

Fun Indoor Kid’s Activities from DealDash

kids-doing-crafts

Now that winter is upon us, most people have an innate desire to stay indoors. Kids tend to get bored with the same old activities, so here are some new ideas from DealDash to keep things fresh and fun.

Kids have so many more things to do indoors now than when I was a kid. When I was a kid, there were network TV cartoons on the weekend, Legos, and Barbies. Kids of today have practically unlimited games on their iPads, millions of YouTube videos to watch, and cartoons “on demand” through the cable provider. However, as soon as the weather gets nasty and they are forced to stay indoors, what do you hear? “I’m booooooooreddd.” Of course, these are the exact same children that were happy to watch countless hours of TV and iPad when it was nice outside, but I digress. Here are some fun indoor activities for your kids from DealDash.

  • Washi tape roads – Pick up a roll of washi tape (paper tape) at your local big box store (I have even seen it at the Dollar Store) and make tape roads on any floor surface. Washi tape is made out of paper and has a rather weak grip, so it’s very easy to remove from wood, tile, and carpet. It’s very similar to painter’s tape but in fun colors and patterns. After you have made your washi tape roads, drive your Hot Wheels cars around on them. This is a really fun activity if you have a large floor space.
  • Washi Tic-Tac-Toe – Staying on the washi tape theme, make tic-tac-toe grids on any floor surface. Make them really BIG, and use fun placeholders for your X’s and O’s such as each child’s favorite stuffed animals. You can also make hopscotch grids as well.
  • Indoor picnic – Find yourself a basket (any large basket or box will work) and fill it with lunch foods that your kids will enjoy for their indoor picnic. Try juice boxes, water bottles, packets of fruit snacks, string cheese, tubes of yogurt, and sandwiches. Don’t forget to pack plastic forks, paper plates, napkins, and most importantly – a picnic blanket! Have your picnic anywhere you like, except the kitchen. That just isn’t as fun!
  • Bake something together. What’s better than family bonding time, a learning experience, and a delicious treat, all with one activity? If sweets aren’t on your family’s menu, try making a pizza together.
  • Karaoke dance party – If you have a karaoke machine, great! However, if you haven’t won one on DealDash yet, you can find pretty much any song on YouTube with lyrics printed on the screen, have a Karaoke dance party with your kids in the living room. Choose some popular songs on the radio that they are familiar with (my daughter loves “Shake It Off” by Taylor Swift) and add in some favorites from your childhood. It’s extremely funny to hear my daughter sing “Life Is A Highway” by Tom Cochrane. For extra fun, dress up in party clothes!

I hope that you have enjoyed this list of fun indoor activities for your kids. If you still need to find the kids some more indoor toys, be sure to check out DealDash. DealDash has indoor toys for kids of all ages and stages. Visit DealDash now. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!

DealDash Presents: Christmas Memories

christmas

What’s your favorite Christmas memory? Today we will explore Christmases gone by with DealDash.

Everyone (who celebrates) has a favorite Christmas memory. My personal favorite is from when I was about 4 years old. On Christmas Eve my parents told me that my Dad was going over to see some other family and wouldn’t be back that night. My mom and I stayed up “really late” to try to catch a glimpse of Santa. Looking back, it was probably only 10 o’clock or so, but to my 4-year-old self, it felt like the dead of night. We hear something at the door…And in came Santa! We hid behind a couch and watched him fill the stockings and put the presents under the tree.

What a wonderful memory. I must not have noticed at the time that Santa was looking rather skinny that year, and arrived on a motorcycle instead of a sleigh. It’s still my favorite Christmas memory. What’s your favorite holiday memory? Feel free to comment down below.

Going back a little further than 1984, if you look at history web sites, you can read about many wonderful old Christmas traditions. If we look back, Christmas, as we know it with the decorated tree, cards, and caroling, started back in Victorian times. At the beginning of the Victorian period families were more likely to give each other presents to celebrate the New Year than at Christmas. However, as time went on, the gift-giving was moved up to Christmas. The presents weren’t anything lavish or amazing. They were more likely to be nuts, fruits such as oranges, and things that were crafted at home.

We can partially credit Charles Dickens with making Christmas the celebration that it has become with Christmas traditions that we are all familiar with such as having a large Christmas dinner with the entire family and other activities that are focused on family togetherness. His delightful book, A Christmas Carol, was very popular in Victorian times, and it even influenced how Victorian families chose to spend their time during the Christmas season. Call me immature, but my favorite Christmas movie is the 1983 Disney cartoon Mickey’s Christmas Carol.

I hope that you have enjoyed this trip down memory lane. If you still haven’t completed your shopping list for Christmas gifts, be sure to check out DealDash. DealDash Talks: Baby Car Accessories

screenshot-1

Everyone knows that babies require a lot of accessories. Today DealDash is discussing car accessories for the baby.

A car seat for the baby is the most important thing that you need for the baby, of course, but there are many other useful accessories that you can get to make riding with the baby a lot more comfortable. Here are a few examples of things that DealDash suggests you get for your baby to accessorize the car.

If you have leather car seats you will definitely want to get car seat protectors. Baby and child car seats are very rough on your car’s upholstery, so getting these car seat protectors is very important to keep the value of your car for when you decide to trade it in. These car seat protectors are an invaluable asset to protect your investment. Think about it like this – you wouldn’t buy a car without floor mats, correct? Well, don’t put in a baby seat without seat protectors!

Another accessory that you need for your car is a baby mirror. These mirrors are extremely helpful to be able to see what your baby is doing when they are in a rear-facing car seat. I can’t tell you how many times that I pulled to the side of the road to see what my baby was doing before I bought the baby mirror for the back seat.

When your child is a bit older and you put the baby seat forward-facing, you will want to get a toy and snack organizer. The organizer slips onto the back of the driver’s or passenger’s seat, and has many pockets to put toys, snacks, drinks, and some of them are even designed to hold an iPad or Android tablet for watching videos in the car. What a great invention! The toy and snack organizer should be within reach of your child, and they can get things for themselves while you are driving.

I hope that you found this DealDash Reviews article on baby car accessories helpful. DealDash has many baby and child products up for auction. Visit DealDash to check out the baby items. Click this link right here to go to DealDash. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!

DealDash Makes: Get-Together Snacks

Image result for snacks public domain

This is the season for get-togethers with friends and family. Let’s make some snacks!

This is definitely the season where it’s normal to have extra people at your house, whether it’s your cousins from out-of-state, or your neighbors from down the street. If they’re there, you’re going to need to feed them. What can you whip up that will feed multiple people? Read on, and I will give you some ideas for some snacks that are easy to make and will satisfy your guests.

Nachos are super easy to make, delicious, and will take away hunger in a hurry.

Ingredients:

  • chips
  • cheddar cheese
  • salsa
  • sour cream
  • black olives
  • green onions
  • jalapeno peppers (optional)
  • refried beans (optional)

Directions:

  1. Set the oven rack about 6 inches from the heat source and preheat the broiler.
  2. Spread tortilla chips on a baking sheet covered in aluminum foil
  3. Top with Cheddar cheese and dot with refried beans (optional)
  4. Broil in the preheated oven until cheese is melted, check frequently to prevent burning, approximately 5 minutes
  5. Remove from oven and cover with the toppings
  6. Enjoy!

If you and your friends are on the healthier side, and nachos aren’t really your thing, you can prepare a delicious fruit salad instead. Even though the nachos were easy, the fruit salad is even easier. One of the best things about fruit salad is that there are no rules. You can combine just about any type of fruit that you would like, cut into small pieces, toss it together, and call it a fruit salad. Here are some ideas of what fruits to include in your fruit salad:

  • watermelon
  • honeydew melon
  • grapes
  • pineapple
  • apple
  • pomegranate seeds
  • orange segments
  • kiwi
  • blackberries
  • raspberries
  • blueberries

After you have made your fruit salad, you can keep it looking fresh for longer if you give a quick squeeze of lemon juice all over the top. Delicious! You can also make a sauce for this fruit salad by combining orange juice, a teaspoon of vanilla, a squeeze of lemon, just a dash of cinnamon, and 2 tablespoons of brown sugar. Put all of the sauce ingredients in a saucepan, and let simmer for about 5 minutes. Let it cool, and then pour it over the fruit salad. I personally don’t think that it needs a sauce, but if you would like to jazz it up, try the sauce!

DealDash Helps You Save Time

Image result for save time Everyone these days is short on time. Let DealDash show you some shortcuts to save some time in your everyday life.

If you’re a busy person like most of us are, you could probably use some time-saving hints and tricks to use throughout your day to save you not only time but energy and effort as well. Even if you don’t feel like you are pressed for time, give these tricks a try anyway, you might find a new way of doing things. DealDash just wants to help you maximize your time.

Image result for cup assortment

Create a “1 cup per person per day” rule at your house. Assign each person in your house their own personal cup. The owner of that cup is responsible for washing their cup throughout the day if they want to change drinks, and also for washing it or putting it in the dishwasher at the end of the night. Kids age 5+ should be able to do these things, but you might have to help anyone that’s a bit younger.

Image result for laundry sorting

Are you tired of doing the laundry and then having to sort it out by family member? Assign each family member a laundry day. That way each person has a full day to get all of their laundry done, and there is no sorting between family members needed. I have always felt that sorting the clean laundry is the worst part – even worse than shoveling the dirty, stinky laundry into the washer.

Do you know someone who is having a birthday, graduating, or having another card-giving holiday? Send those babies out all at once on the first day or two of the month. That way, you won’t forget, and your card will even get there early!

I hope that you found some of these ideas helpful for your lifestyle. If you’d like to save time and money as well then be sure to check out DealDash. DealDash has everything you need to make your life easier. Visit DealDash now to check out the auctions. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!

DealDash’s Favorite Ways to Say Thanks

Image result for ways to say thank you

There are so many different ways to say “Thank you.” Here are a few for you to use.

If you normally just say “Thank you.” When someone does you a favor, or goes above and beyond for you, why not do something a little more special for them? They will appreciate it very much, and will make them even more likely to do other nice things for you in the future. Remember, it’s always nice to be nice!

One of the easiest ways to thank someone other than just saying it is to get them a card and write a special message inside. You can get a card that is specific to the reason that you are thanking the person, or a more generic one that you can write in the reason yourself. In fact, if you would like to be cost-effective and plan on sending lots of thank you notes, buy a multi-pack of blank cards and save them for the next time that you would like to send someone a thank you card.

If you would like to go above and beyond just a card, why not send them a gift card as a thank you. Luckily for you, our favorite auction website, DealDash, offers gift cards for auction! DealDash has gift card auctions every single day, and I have seen them go for pennies on the dollar. However, if you don’t happen to win you can always BIN (Buy It Now), and get all of your bids back, free shipping, and get to keep the clock time that you accrued while being the highest bidder.

Another great way to give someone a special thank you is to make them something – especially something sweet and delicious. Baking someone cookies or a cake is a wonderful way to say thank you. If you’re not the baking sort, picking up a dozen cookies or donuts at the bakery is always nice as well.

Finally, if the above ideas don’t appeal to you, how about winning a piece of art or jewelry as a thank you to your friend or family member? DealDash has a nice assortment of art, as well as necklaces, bracelets, and earrings up for auction. If you need a special thank you gift for someone, just click this link here to visit DealDash. Organizing Your Life with DealDash

Image result for organize your life

Here on DealDash Reviewed we talk a lot about organizing your house and belongings. How about organizing your life as well?

Organizing your items at home is great – it eliminates clutter and makes your house look more inviting than before. However, there’s usually no deeper meaning to organizing your stuff than aesthetic purposes. Taking control and organizing your life is a different story. Do you have a lot of “clutter” in your life? Do you feel anxious, worried, or a little down? Here are some simple tips to get your life organized by DealDash.

If you’re in need of a little life makeover, there’s no time to start like the present. I know that when I am feeling anxious or worried it’s because I feel like I am losing control of the things that I have to get done.

My number one tip would be to get as many calendars, day planners, and phone app reminders that you think that you need to keep your appointments and daily duties organized. I have a calendar in my kitchen, a calendar on my phone, a weekly chalkboard that I use, and I have just ordered a “digital scrap paper” device that I can jot things down on and upload to my computer later. I put all of my appointments and meal plans on these devices, and I feel that I am in much better control of daily life. It may seem like overkill, but when you have 3 children in 2 different schools with different activities and appointments things can get out of control very quickly.

Another tip to organizing your life is similar to organizing your home – declutter! Declutter your extra things in your home, as well as they extra thoughts in your head. Stop worrying so much about the things that you can’t change, and work on the things that you can change. Throwing out those old magazines and clothes that don’t fit are a lot easier than throwing away your troubles and worries, but give it a try.

I hope that you found this article helpful. If you’re looking for something fun to get you in a great mood be sure to visit DealDash. DealDash has many items for auction to put a smile on your face. Just click here to visit DealDash. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!

DealDash’s Winter Bucket List

Image result for bucket list winter

Winter is coming fast, and while it’s tempting to just stay inside and not emerge until spring, here is a winter bucket list for you to try.

Do you have a lifetime bucket list? I personally try to stay in the moment, and having a bucket list for each new season is a great way to try new things and have fun with my family in every type of weather. Here is a fun bucket list for you to try this winter – add or remove things as you see fit to personalize it for yourself and your family.

  • Play in the snow. This might not be applicable for all of you out there, but for those of you in colder climates, go out and play! Grab your child, grandchild, or spouse, and get out there in the sparkly cold weather!
  • Make an advent calendar. Advent calendars are a fun way to count down the time until Christmas. Make your own with little candy treats for each day leading up until Christmas.
  • Make cookies. Cookies aren’t just for Christmas, they are great for the whole winter season. Try sugar cookies or even gingerbread men.
  • Pick a child off of the “angel tree” at your mall, and buy (or win from DealDash!) gifts for a disadvantaged child in your hometown.
  • Make apple cider or egg nog. Or both, why choose?
  • Get a gingerbread house kit and make it with your kids or grandkids. If you don’t have kids or grandkids, maybe there is a neighbor child that you could invite over to share this activity with you.
  • Light the fireplace and drink hot chocolate by firelight.
  • Make Christmas ornaments. Decorating the tree is more fun when you have made some of the ornaments yourself. Try making picture ornaments of your child, grandchild, or pets. Don’t forget to put the year on them!
  • Visit a farm and take a hayride, eat cider donuts, and bring home a pie.
  • Visit DealDash, win an auction!

DealDash Holiday Travel Essentials

Image result for travel essentials

Are you planning a trip for the holidays? Don’t forget to pack these holiday travel essentials.

This is the season for family get-togethers, and I don’t know about you, but I always seem to forget to pack something that I really need! I can’t even tell you how many times that I’ve had a make a quick trip to the big box store and buy a duplicate of an items that I already have at home. It can start to get quite costly, depending on how often that you travel. Here is a quick guide to the essentials that you might need on your next trip.

The first thing that you are going to need to bring on your holiday trip to visit family is a good attitude! Between traffic (or long flights), bad weather, and stress sometimes we aren’t as enthusiastic about visiting for the holidays as we should be feeling. Remember, this is your family, you decided to come visit because you love them – try to have a good attitude.

Aside from your normal toiletries that you would regularly bring on a trip, is there any special look that you might want to wear on the holiday? Even ladies that don’t normally wear a lot of make-up sometimes like to glam it up on the holidays. Go ahead girls, throw in that glitter eye shadow and those fake lashes!

In the same vein, don’t forget to pack something special to wear on the holiday, or for any nights out to neighborhood parties. If you don’t usually dress up, why not make a special effort for the holiday? Don’t forget to pack shoes to go with your outfit as well as anything else you might need like pantyhose or a strapless bra.

If you’re travelling now and don’t plan on coming back for Christmas be sure to pack any presents that you were planning on gifting. Why pay shipping later if you can bring them with you now and leave them for your family to open on Christmas?

Lastly, don’t forget to bring your laptop so you can still participate in DealDash auctions! If you don’t have a laptop you can always download the DealDash app for your Android or iPhone. You can buy bids, bookmark auctions so you can come back to them later, set or remove BidBuddies, and of course bid on auctions! DealDash Spreads Happiness

Image result for how to be happy

It’s impossible to instruct someone on how to be happy – but here are some suggestions to get you started.

What does happiness mean to you? To some people happiness is a house filled with family and friends, and to other people happiness is backpacking around the world alone. Here are some suggestions that are fairly universal for optimum happiness.

Get a pet. It’s scientifically proven that pet owners have lower stress levels and are happier overall. If you don’t have time for a cat or a dog, try a fish or a bird. They are lower maintenance and still provide the same happiness-factor that their furry counterparts offer.

Set goals. Setting (reasonable) goals for yourself is a sure-fire road to happy times. Setting a goal and achieving or even surpassing your goal is excellent for your self-esteem and happiness. Make sure that you pick a goal that is within your reach – if you’re a couch potato I wouldn’t suggest that your goal be “Run a marathon.” but rather “Take a walk around the block every night this week.”

Get more sleep. If you average less than 7-8 hours per night of sleep then you might be making yourself irritable and unhappy without even realizing it. Turn off your TV, computer, and phone an hour early every night for a week, and hit the sack. You’ll be feeling happier in no time.

Be social. Spending more time with friends and family is definitely a great way to cheer yourself up if you’re feeling blue. Several studies have found that spending time with friends and family makes a big difference to how happy we are feeling. Bonus points for this if you spend your time together doing something fun!

Go outside. Spending time outdoors in the sunlight and fresh air can do wonders for your happiness. The sun gives you the feel-good powers of Vitamin D, and seeing the sights and hearing the sounds of nature are a great way to chase out the blues.  If you combine going outdoors with a brisk walk – well, that’s happiness right there!

Lastly, there’s very few things that make me happier than winning an auction on DealDash! Winning a DealDash auction gives you a burst of happiness that is rarely matched! Just go to this link here and check out the awesome auctions on DealDash. DealDash always has something for everyone. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!

DealDash Presents Fun Animal Facts

Image result for animals

From Aardvark to Zebra animals are a very important part of our world.

There are so many different types, sizes, and shapes of animals on our green Earth. Here are some fun and interesting animal facts for you to enjoy. Memorize some, and quiz your friends!

Dolphins may speak in squeals and squeaks rather than human words, but they actually have names for each other. The Cetacean Hearing and Telemetry (CHAT) is a dolphin-English translator that can be used to convert the “dolphin talk” into English.

Cows are extremely sensitive beings. Not only do they have best friends, they also produce more milk when listening to soothing music. The average cow has her first baby calf when she is about 2 years old. Cows (naturally) live for approximately 15 years.

Squirrels are very useful little creatures. They are great for the environment by “accidentally” plant thousands of trees per year by scattering acorns. In addition to being conservation-friendly, they will also adopt other squirrel babies that have been abandoned.

Most people aren’t very fond of rats, but they are actually said to be as intelligent as a dog. They can learn their name and how to do tricks. Rats are also ticklish, which is cute to think about, until you read the next rat fact. They are extremely fertile, and in just 18 months, 2 rats could have created over 1 million relatives. Now that’s a lot of rats!

Now on to my favorite animal, the octopus! An octopus has a lot of love to give – not only do they have 8 arms for hugging, they also have 3 hearts. If they happen to lose one of those 8 arms, no problem! Octopus’ are able to regenerate an arm if it gets bitten off. They are also able to “drop” an arm to escape a predator, similar to how a lizard can drop it’s tail when it’s in danger. Sadly, an octopus usually only lives for approximately 6 – 18 months. Males only live a few months after mating, and females die of starvation shortly after their protected eggs hatch. How sad.

DealDash Travels: Washington, D.C.

Everyone should visit our nation’s capital at least once. Here are some things that you should make a point to see while you are there.

Washington, D.C. has been ranked as the #8 best place to visit on the U.S. News and Report website. If you haven’t ever made it to Washington, D.C. you should make it a point to visit on your next vacation.

Washington, D.C. is famous for many things – The White House, Lincoln Memorial, and Washington Monument are things that every American should see at least once. There are also many fun things to make a family vacation enjoyable for the kids as well, such as the National Zoo and the Smithsonian Museum. Surprisingly, all of the Smithsonian attractions as well as the National Zoo have free admission!

Did you know that basketball player Kevin Durant, politician Al Gore, actor Samuel L. Jackson, and your favorite DealDash blogger (me!) were all born in Washington, D.C.?

If you plan on visiting Washington, D.C., you won’t even need to rent a car! The Metro (Washington metropolitan Area Transit Authority), as it’s locally known, is a great way to get around. You are able to fly into Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA) in Arlington, Virginia and take the Metro into the city to check into your hotel. The cost for the Metro is minimal and ranges from $1.75 to $5.90 per trip, depending on your destination and if you are travelling during “peak” or “off-peak” times, which is an awesome deal compared to a taxi or an Uber.

The best times to visit Washington, D.C. are the spring and the fall to get nice weather as well as slightly better pricing for your hotel than if you were to travel in the summer. And as a bonus, if you travel late in late March or early April you will be able to catch the National Cherry Blossom Festival. This upcoming year, 2017, the National Cherry Blossom Festival will take place from March 20th to April 16th. The cherry blossom trees are currently growing in three National Park Service locations: the Tidal Basin in West Potomac Park, in East Potomac Park (Hains Point), and also on the Washington Monument grounds.

If you’re planning on travelling you might want to get some new luggage. DealDash has a number of beautiful luggage sets up for auction. If you’re looking for luggage, check DealDash first! Just click this link right here and come browse the auctions on DealDash. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!

Doing Nice Things with DealDash

Image result for nice things

November is the month of being thankful – Being nice and being thankful go hand-in-hand. Let’s think of some ways to be nice to others.

Why wait until Thanksgiving to be thankful for your friends and family? Let’s be extra thankful all month and show our appreciation for friends and family by doing nice things. Here are a few ideas for nice things that you can do for others.

Flowers. You can get flowers to spruce up a friend’s house. You can get a nice pot of mums for outside, or a nice arrangement from the supermarket or the big-box hardware store for under $10. This is something that you can do for just about any age, from 20-90.

Hang decorations. If you have an older friend or family member who loves to decorate for the holidays but has trouble doing so due to age and agility, why not offer to help them hang their decorations this year? It’s an easy thing to do that will make them smile. Just be sure to let them know that you will be back after the holidays to help them take the decorations down as well.

Shovel. If it isn’t snowing where you are by now, make someone happy by letting them know that you will be by to help them shovel on the first snow of the season. This is especially helpful for the elderly.

Coffee. On your morning coffee run, why not pick up a few extra coffees for your co-workers? It’s an easy and inexpensive way to make someone smile. Bonus points if you know how they like their coffee, but you can always get it black with creamers and sugar on the side.

Wrapping. Do you have a friend or family member who has a lot of people that they buy presents for? Why not offer to help them wrap presents? I personally find wrapping presents fun, and I always volunteer to be the present-wrapper when I get an opportunity. It boggles my mind that some people dislike wrapping presents, and I am always happy to help them.

DealDash. Do you have a friend who needs a little cheering up? Why not win them something on DealDash? There are many fun things on DealDash that would make a wonderful surprise gift for someone who is feeling a little down. Just click on this link right here and you will be taken to DealDash so you can browse the auctions. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!

DealDash Makes: Beauty Bath Bombs

Image result for make bath bombs

Many women and children (and even some men!) love to take a relaxing bath before bed. Homemade bath bombs can make your bath extra luxurious.

Bath bombs are very easy to make, the ingredients are relatively inexpensive, and you can make them tailored to your own scent preference. Not only that, you can even make them into fun shapes for your children or to give as gifts. Don’t pay those outrageous mall specialty store prices, make your own! Once you have the basic recipe you can include any sort of color, scent, or shape that you like. This is also a fun project that you can do with your kids, if they are reluctant bathers, this might help.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Baking Soda
  • 1/2 cup Citric Acid
  • 1/2 cup Epsom Salt (preferably the fine-grained type)
  • 1/2 cup Corn Starch
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons Almond Oil (or grapeseed oil, avocado oil, or any other carrier oil that you choose)
  • 3/4 tablespoons Water
  • 2 teaspoons Essential Oils (Any scent you like, you can even mix them)
  • Liquid food coloring (optional, but extra fun)
  • Mold (Silicone is the easiest to remove the bath bomb)

Directions:

  1. Using your dry ingredients, combine 1 cup of baking soda, 1/2 cup of corn starch, 1/2 cup of epsom salt, and 1/2 cup of citric acid in a large bowl. Be sure that your dry ingredients are mixed well.
  2. Using your liquid ingredients, combine 2 1/2 tablespoons of almond ( or other carrier oil) oil, 3/4 tablespoons of water, and 2 teaspoons of essential oils in a separate bowl.
  3. Combine the mixture of wet ingredients into your dry ingredients and mix together. Please be sure that they are mixed extremely well, otherwise you will have chunks in your bath bombs, and no one wants that!
  4. Add your food coloring. Approximately 3-6 drops of food coloring is appropriate, depending on how light or dark you would like your bath bombs. If you would like to make more than 1 color of bath bomb, separate your mixture into different bowls. The more bowls you use separate your mixture, the less food coloring you will need to use in each. Mix food coloring well, you can even put gloves on and squash it around with your hands.
  5. Time to fill your mold! spoon some of your mixture into the mold, and squash down tightly with either a spoon or your hand. Continue filling and squashing until your bath bomb has reached the top of the mold. You can even layer different colors on top of one another.
  6. Let your mixture dry in the mold for 1-2 hours, depending on how big the bath bombs are.
  7. Remove from the mold, put on waxed paper, and continue to let them dry overnight.
  8. After drying you can store them in airtight containers and use as needed.

If you are having a difficult time finding the perfect silicone mold, you can use metal or plastic molds as well. Even a muffin tin will work in a pinch! For kid’s bath bombs I like to use fun-shaped silicone ice cube trays. You can make more bath bombs that way, so they can throw in 2 or 3 per bath.

DealDash Crafts: No-Carve Pumpkins

Image result for no carve pumpkins

As popular as pumpkin carving is, there are quite a few situations where carving isn’t practical. Here are some fun and creative no-carve, no-mess pumpkins.

Carving pumpkins is always fun, but there are many situations where pumpkin carving is just too messy and impractical. Pumpkin decorating can be just as creative and fun as carving, and many designs can be done much more quickly than their carved counterparts.

Brad pumpkin. No, we didn’t name the pumpkin Brad…All of those little colorful circular items that are decorating the pumpkin above are brads from scrapbooking. You are probably more familiar with the plain gold or silver brads, but for maximum pumpkin decorating, go for the colorful ones. You can get them at any craft store that has scrapbooking supplies. Make a random design, a geometric design, or even a face design with the brads. They are made out of metal, you can just stick them right into the pumpkin’s skin. Sorry, Brad!

Image result for cupcake pumpkins no carve

Cupcake pumpkin. The cupcake pumpkin is super-easy to make. If you’re lucky you might be able to find a pumpkin that is more brown than orange, but if not, don’t despair! Simply paint the bottom half of the pumpkin with brown craft paint, and the top half of the pumpkin with the frosting color of your choice – pink, white, or even chocolate-brown. After the frosting color has dried, paint on multi-colored sprinkles. Please don’t use your pumpkin for any food-related purposes after you have painted it.

Mummy pumpkin. Wrap your pumpkin up with gauze, and then paint over it with Mod Podge. If you don’t have Mod Podge simply use a mixture of 50/50 Elmer’s Glue and water. Stick on a pair of googly eyes and you’re set! Feel free to draw on a mouth with a Sharpie or cut and glue one out of construction paper.

Image result for emoji pumpkins no carve

Emoji pumpkins. These are some of the easiest pumpkins to make. Paint your pumpkins a flat yellow color. After they dry you can either paint on the emoji faces, or cut and glue cardboard emoji faces as seen in the picture above. Either way, they are cute, current, and will be a hit with the trick or treaters.

I hope that you found these no-carve pumpkin ideas as fun as I did! DealDash enjoys all of the holidays and always has special bid prices on these special days. Just click this link right here and you can visit DealDash. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!

DealDash Looks at Car Seats

Image result for different car seats

Choosing the proper car seat for your child or grandchild is very important. Let’s look at the different types of car seats available.

Riding in a car seat is an absolute must for all babies, toddlers, and little kids in the US. A child needs to be in some kind of car seat or booster seat until they are at least 8 years old, and have reached a height of 4’9. There are a few different types and styles of car seats available according to the child’s age and development. Here is a quick guide to choosing the proper car seat to keep your child safe.

Image result for infant car seat

Infant car seat. Also commonly known as the “baby bucket”. These car seats are amazing when you have a small baby. The bucket fits into a base that is connected to your car, and can be removed and carried around. If you only want to buy one of these car seats you just have to have a second base if you want to transfer the baby to your second car. Be warned, though, the weight of a baby plus the weight of the baby bucket can get very heavy. Your baby bucket should always be rear-facing in the car. Check your individual baby bucket for weight limits. My baby bucket has a weight limit of 25 pounds, but yours might be different. Once your child exceeds the height and weight limit of their baby bucket it’s time to purchase a convertible car seat with a higher weight limit.

Image result for convertible car seat

Convertible car seat. This is the car seat that your child will be sitting in for years to come. Make sure that you get a comfortable one that has great safety ratings. The American Academy of Pediatrics advises parents to keep toddlers in rear-facing car seats until age two, or until they exceed the height or weight limit for the car seat, which can be found on the back of the seat. Many people choose to flip the seat forward facing around the child’s first birthday, but try to hold off until their second birthday, for safety. After the after the age of two, feel free to flip that seat around so your child is forward-facing. Your child can stay in this seat as long as they like, until they hit the weight limit. Most convertible seats have a weight limit of 35 or 45 pounds. It is printed on the seat, be sure to check.

Image result for booster seat

Booster seat. Many convertible car seats can convert into booster seats. However, if yours doesn’t have this feature, you can get a booster seat such as the one pictured above. Your child needs to stay in the booster seat until they are least 8 years old, and have reached a height of 4’9.

DealDash Visits the Farm

Image result for farm october

Visiting your local farm in October can be a lot of fun. There are usually many fun family activities.

Family activities at your local farm can range from picking apples, hay bale mazes, face-painting, apple cider donuts, and so much more. It’s also very appropriate to visit your local farm in October, because October is National Farm to School Month.

Farm to School Month is a great opportunity for kids to find out where out food really comes from. If you aren’t familiar with Farm to School the basic idea is that  through cooperation with the school system and local farm students gain access to healthy, local foods as well as education opportunities such as school gardens, cooking lessons and farm field trips. Farm to school teaches children and their families about the outdoors, how food is grown, and provides them with hands-on activities that can take place at their school or during school field trips. A little over 40% of public schools in the US take part in Farm to School Month, which is great, because the kids love it!

If you don’t have a child in school, or your child’s school doesn’t participate, then you should try to make time to visit your local farm. It’s a lot of fun for the children, and it’s a wonderful way to get them excited about fruits, vegetables, and eating healthy. Sadly, in America one out of every three kids is overweight or obese, and at-risk for Type 2 Diabetes. It would be a great benefit for them to learn healthy eating habits while they are still young, and it will save them a lot of trouble when they are older.

Visiting your local farm is a fun family activity that can have some positive benefits for your child, and even for you, too! As the temperature gets colder, though, you might want to stay warm and toasty inside. Give the kids a fun activity to do, such as drawing pictures of your farm adventure, and you can browse DealDash! DealDash is always there for you, 24/7. No matter the weather, DealDash has hours of entertainment shopping fun for you to explore. Just click this link here and it will take you to DealDash. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!

DealDash has Fun with Scrapbooking

Image result for scrapbooking fun

If the aisles at the local craft store are any indication, scrapbooking is a very popular hobby.

One of the easiest crafts to get started with is scrapbooking. There’s truly no right or wrong way to do it – as long as you are able to glue things on pretty paper, you’re a scrapbooker! Of course, there are some people that just seem to have the gift of knowing exactly how to make their scrapbooking pages look perfect.

So are you one of those rare people who are able to just look at a pile of embellishments and know exactly where to put them, or are you like the rest of us and need to do a few “trial runs” before you actually glue anything down? In the end, it actually doesn’t matter which type of scrapbooker that you are, as long as it looks great in the end. “Looking great” doesn’t necessarily mean being perfect, though, sometimes imperfections can be charming, especially when it comes to crafting.

Here are just a few handy tips and tricks about scrapbooking that I’ve picked up over the years:

  • Don’t glue anything until you have positioned everything to make sure it looks nice first.
  • Speaking of gluing, don’t glue any of your special heirloom photos. Make a copy, and use that for scrapbooking.
  • Dirty rubber stamps? Clean them with zero-alcohol baby wipes.
  • Don’t just toss things on your page randomly – choose the focal point of your layout.
  • Get yourself a manila envelope or shoe box and stick random pictures or embellishments in it that you want to save for later or your next scrapbook.

I hope that you enjoyed this article on scrapbooking. If you need any sewing, arts, or craft supplies be sure to check DealDash first. DealDash often offers craft items for auction. Visit DealDash at this link right here. Good luck and happy bidding everyone! Image result for scrapbooking

DealDash Fosters Good Eating Habits

Image result for good eating habits

Being a parent means that you sometimes have to make difficult choices for your kids, even if they don’t agree with you.

If you’re a busy parent like myself, sometimes it’s easy to let healthy eating habits fall by the wayside when things get busy at home. Grabbing pizza or a burger on the way home is quicker and easier than making a home-cooked meal after a long day of school, work, sports, and other after-school activities – not to mention homework! While grabbing a quick meal out occasionally won’t hurt anyone, it’s a good idea not to get in the habit.

If your kids are old enough to have homework, sports, and after-school activities they are old enough to help you prep and cook simple (and even complex!) meals at home. As the old idiom says, “many hands make light work”. As long as you have adequate counter space there’s not a reason in the world why your kids ages 5+ can’t help you prepare dinner.

The way to lead kids down a road of healthy eating habits is modelling – by you and the other trusted adults that they know. The more adults that they love and trust that they see eating healthy fruits and veggies, lean meats, and whole grains eating, the more they will want to emulate them. In turn, emulation will become habit, and you will have given your kids the gift of healthy eating habits. That’s a gift that can last a lifetime.

In addition to your kids helping prepare dinner, they can also help you make the week’s meal plan. For younger kids, give a few healthy choices and let them pick. For older kids you can see what they come up with on their own, and be there to guide them if they go astray into the land of junk food.

If you’re going to be doing all of this extra cooking with your children, you’re going to need more kitchen supplies. DealDash has any kitchen supplies that you might need including pots & pans, fun plates, trivets, and more. Check out DealDash for all of your kitchen needs. DealDash Crafts: Spooky Lanterns

Image result for homemade halloween decorations

Welcome back to another DealDash Spooky Crafts article, today we will be talking about spooky lantern decorations for outside the home.

Isn’t Halloween fun? Halloween and Christmas are my two favorite holidays for decorating inside and outside the home. Today’s article will include some fun and easy lantern crafts that you can do to decorate the outside of your house to welcome the little trick or treaters that are sure to come knocking in a few weeks.

Trick or Treat Lantern Cans – If you like the look of the lanterns in the above picture, they are super easy and very cheap to make. This is more of an adult’s or teen’s craft, I wouldn’t suggest doing this craft with little ones, unless they are just watching.

Materials:

  • Clean empty metal cans that have the tops removed. Any size metal can will do.
  • Sharpie marker
  • Awl, hammer
  • Paint & brush
  • Candle or battery-powered candle

Instructions:

  1. Using your sharpie marker draw your message in DOTS on the can. Make the dots approximately 1/2″ apart.
  2. Using the hammer and awl, poke holes in the can on each dot, spelling out your message in holes in the can.
  3. Paint your can, being careful that the paint doesn’t pool in the holes you made. If you need to, you can clean up the paint blocking the holes with a Q-tip. Let dry.
  4. Put candle in the can, light, enjoy the lit up message.

Milky Ghost Lanterns – If you would prefer to do a Halloween craft with your little ones, this one is much more kid-friendly.

Materials:

  • Clean empty milk jugs
  • Sharpie marker
  • Battery powered LED lights
  • Paint (optional)

Instructions:

  1. If you want to make colored ghosts, then do this optional step first. put a TINY drop of paint inside your milk jug, then follow that with about 1/4 cup of water. Shake up the jug, then leave the top off, and let it dry. This will produce a very thin coat of paint on the inside of the jug. I suggest using lighter colors for this such as yellow, orange, pink, or light green.
  2. Draw on your ghostly faces with the Sharpie onto your milk jug.
  3. Put in your battery-powered lights, and enjoy your lanterns. If you have painted the inside of the jug, be sure that your paint is dry before you put the LED lights in.

DealDash Makes Applesauce

Image result for applesauce

It’s apple picking season here in New England, and what better use of apples than applesauce?

Now that I have two kids in school I have received a bounty of freshly picked apples – pretty much every kid in school around here goes to apple picking at a local farm for a field trip at this time of year. Eating apples raw is delicious, of course, but it can get a little tiring after a while, and if you’re like myself the last ones in the bag go uneaten and get thrown away. Applesauce is the cure for your uneaten apple problem! It’s easy to make, delicious, and keeps for a while in the fridge after you have made it. It great for adults, kids, and even babies can eat it as well. It’s a wonderful high-fiber food that you can enjoy anytime, from breakfast to dessert. It’s time to learn how to make applesauce.

Ingredients:

  • 6 (approximately) of pounds Apples
  • 1 cup Apple Juice Or Water
  • Juice Of 1 Lemon
  • 1/2 cup Brown Sugar, Packed
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon, More Or Less To Taste

Directions:

  1. Peel and core Core the apples
  2. Cut Into slices – 8ths is great
  3. Combine all ingredients into a large stock pot and cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, for 20-30 minutes.
  4. You can mash this up with a potato masher for a chunky applesauce or…
  5. Puree in a blender or food processor until it has reached the applesaucy texture that you desire.

Wasn’t that easy?? This is a great project to do at home with the kids that takes a minimum of time and effort and yields a delicious snack that you can all enjoy together when it’s done. Since this recipe suggests using a food processor or blender, you’ll want to visit DealDash if you need a new one. DealDash has many kitchen items, including blenders and food processors. DealDash Visits LegoLand

Image result for legoland

There are various LegoLand attractions around the country, and they are all extremely fun to visit. Let’s take a look at what sorts of things that you might see if you were to visit.

Most kids from age 5-15 love Legos, and some kids keep on loving Legos up through adulthood. If you think that playing with Legos at home, or even going to the Lego store at the mall is fun, going to any one of the LegoLand attractions would be the ultimate experience.

There are two main LegoLand attractions in the US, and those are in California in Florida. These are both large theme parks that are similar to a 6 Flags, and are definitely an all-day experience that would be a great place to take the whole family on vacation. If you are not close to either California or Florida, there is another type of LegoLand called LegoLand Discovery Center. There are a few of these Discovery Centers around the US, they are located in:

  • Arizona
  • Georgia
  • Massachusetts
  • Illinois
  • Texas
  • Kansas
  • Michigan
  • Pennsylvania
  • New York

So you can see, it’s probably a bit easier to visit one of these Discovery Centers if you live in (or near) one of these states. These Discovery Centers are definitely a fun place to visit, but just to be clear, they are not amusement parks. Here’s what you might find if you decide to visit a LegoLand Discovery Center:

  • 4D Rides
  • Factory Tour
  • Play Zone
  • Builder’s Academy
  • Cafe
  • Birthday Party Rooms
  • Lego Store
  • More, depending on location

I have been to the one located in Boston many times, and I have to say, it’s a lot of fun. My kids are always extremely excited when I say that we are going to go for a visit to the LegoLand Discovery Center. There are lots of fun things to do there, I personally feel like it’s similar to a Children’s Museum with a Lego theme that kid’s love.

There are a few things that you should keep in mind; First, it’s rather expensive. Check your local LegoLand Discovery Center for prices. Also, sometimes you can’t even get it to play because it’s too busy. If you are travelling a bit to visit, I would suggest that you prepay for your tickets online before you come. Otherwise, you are going to have some sad children. This actually happened to me once. It wasn’t a huge deal since we live locally, but it was definitely a disappointment.

I hope that you found this article informative. If you love Legos be sure to visit DealDash. DealDash has many Lego auctions. DealDash has a great Lego selection. Just click here to visit DealDash. Good luck and happy bidding everyone! Image result for legoland
