DealDash’s Fun Ideas for the Weekend

DealDash

Hello, weekend! It’s Saturday morning, do you have anything fun planned? If not, read on for some tips and ideas from DealDash.

What’s your favorite thing to do on weekends? Typically my family does something with the kids in the afternoon, then we go out to dinner at night. It’s fun for them, and it’s fun for me because I don’t have to cook and clean up two days per week! There are still a few weekends left before my kids go back to school, so we are going to pack in some fun activities. If you need some suggestions to get out of the house, here are some suggestions from DealDash.

Nature Walks

My family loves to be outside, but since the baby and I have very pale skin we are quite sensitive to the sun. We can get our “outdoors fix” by going on nature walks. The trees provide a nice cover from the sun, the kids get to look at cute furry animals, and we all get some exercise. Nature walks are one of those wonderful times that the kids can learn things without even realize that they are learning! This isn’t so important for my daughter who loves to learn, but my son is very “anti-school”, so it’s great for him to learn without realizing he’s doing it!

The Beach (with a Tent)

My husband and older kids love the beach. Me, not so much because of the aforementioned sun aversion. However, since we love doing things as a family, occasionally we will go to the beach. There is a lovely island beach that’s just a ferry ride away, and as luck would have it, they rent sun cabanas! So if you are sensitive to the sun like me, or have small kids that you don’t want in the harsh rays, don’t despair! You can purchase your own mini sun cabana online and bring it with you, or you can rent one. Since I have discovered the sun cabana, the summer has gotten a lot more fun.

Street Festivals

Depending on where you live, you might be able to catch a street festival going on this weekend. Where I live, in Boston, there are many small towns around me, and I am typically able to find a street festival to attend every weekend. There are music festivals, craft festivals, ethnic food festivals, kid’s festivals, and so many more! My personal favorite is the craft festival, but my husband loves the ethnic food festivals. There’s something for everyone when you go to a street festival!

DealDash Back to School Tips for Success

DealDash

Are you ready for back to school? Here are some tips for success from DealDash.

Whether you are ready for it or not it is soon going to be time for back to school. While it can be difficult to let go of all the fun that summer can offer, you will want to transition as smoothly as possible into the fall months when school approaches. Here are four tips that will help set you up for back to school success, from DealDash.

Develop and Keep a Routine

Make sure to develop a routine that you can stick to during the school year. This will assist your children in being as successful as possible. Knowing what comes next is something that will really help children as they can avoid the stress of the unknown. This is especially true for younger children who are new at this whole “school thing.”

Stick to the Rules

You also want to have a solid set of rules in place when it is time for your kids to return to school. You will need to set down rules for television time as well as phone and game time. Also, come up with some rules in regard to doing homework so that your children know what is expected of them. Also, be sure that there are reasonable punishments for disobeying the rules. Make sure that your kids understand that there will be consequences, and you will punish them if it’s necessary. If possible, have the “punishment fit the crime,” such as if your child doesn’t do their homework when they get home like they are supposed to, then they have to do an extra homework page.

Time Management is Your Friend

Excellent time management is going to be your friend when it comes to getting your kids off to school every day. You need to make sure that you can implement a schedule for getting ready for school as well as one for the evening hours. It should be easy to follow so that you can help your kids get all of their tasks done with the least amount of stress. It’s also important to have an easy to follow routine in case you need to get a babysitter for the evening. Keeping your kids on their schedule is important for both you and your children.

Healthy Meals

Planning healthy meals is also going to help everyone be successful when it comes to back to school. Planning healthy meals takes less time than you would think and your family will be thankful for the extra time that planning ahead will give them. You will also appreciate the benefits of eating healthy, which leads to happy and healthy kids.

Getting back to school can seem like a stressful event however with a little planning you can make a seamless transition into this yearly event.

DealDash Helps: Survive a Toddler Tantrum

dealdash

Have a toddler that’s getting you down with tantrums? Follow these tips from DealDash to help tame tantrums.

Many parents worry about taking their toddler out. They know they will run the risk of their child throwing a tantrum. Tantrums are common in younger children. You want to make sure that you are equipped to deal with them while you are both at home as well as out in public. Here are a few tips to help you survive a toddler tantrum, from DealDash.

Have a Problem?

The first thing that you should do when your toddler is throwing a tantrum is to see what is causing this behavior. Typically, if they are having a tantrum it means that they have a problem. Is your child hungry or tired? Has something happened to upset them somehow? You what to find out exactly what is causing your toddler to have a tantrum so you will be better equipped to diffuse the situation.

Keep yourself calm

You need to keep your composure when your toddler is throwing a tantrum. If you get upset then it will only make your child more upset than they already are. Making sure that you stay calm is going to be a huge help in calming your child. Realize that if you yell at them for being upset it will not help calm them down. Yelling is not a good solution for dealing with toddlers unless it is to stop them from doing something dangerous such as touching a hot stove or running into the street.

Distract Your Little Darling

Finding a distraction to occupy your toddler’s mind is also going to help when you are looking for ways to help them calm down when they are having a tantrum. You want to find something that will soothe them so that they will hopefully calm down and move on to something else other than whatever issue that is currently upsetting them. Doing something as simple as holding your toddler and hugging them can be enough to distract them from their tantrum. Some people call this a “time in” rather than a time out.

Thanks for Reading

Thanks for reading the newest DealDash article on helping your toddler when they’re having a tantrum. A toddler throwing a tantrum can be a scary thought to have to deal with. However, if you are well prepared you will see that it is something that is simpler to deal than you might think. If you are prepared to deal with a toddler tantrum you will find that doing simple things like going to the grocery store will be a lot easier.

DealDash Gets Kids Back Into School Mode

DealDash

Kids are still in a summer frame of mind. How do we get them back into school mode? Let DealDash help.

Earlier this week we talked about getting kids back on a school time schedule. (Click right here to read it if you missed it!) However, even if you get their schedule back on track they still might not be in a school frame of mind. Luckily, there are a few simple things that you can do to help. Read on, for more tips and tricks from DealDash.

Do a Little School Work

Some kids like doing workbooks and many others don’t like it. However, if you want to get them thinking about school, then it’s time to get one. They have workbooks for all ages at the bookstore. They even have them at the dollar store for younger kids. If you can manage to get your kids to do a page or two of school work every day, then they will be better prepared to head back to school.

If your kids really dislike workbooks, or if you can’t find one that suits them, then hit the books. Get your kids to read every day. If they are younger then have them read a story book every day with your help. If they are older, then have them read a chapter of a longer book every day. This will get their brains back into learning mode.

Go Back to School Shopping

I confess, I didn’t like school very much when I was a kid. However, one of my favorite activities was back to school shopping. I loved picking out my folders, notebooks, and other school supplies.

Other than actual school supplies, I loved picking out a new backpack, outfit and new shoes for the first day of school. There’s just something about fresh new clothes and school supplies that gets you in the mood to go back to school.

Get Together With Friends

There are still a few weekends left before school starts. Why not invite a few school friends over to play so they can renew their relationship before school starts? I know that a big part of not being ready to start school again can come from anxiety and worry that they won’t have any friends in their new class. Inviting some old friends from last school year can help, and show your kids that even if they don’t know anyone in their new class they will still have friends to ride the bus with and sit with at lunchtime and recess.

DealDash Helps: Essential School Skills

DealDash

School is opening back up soon. Here are some essential school skills that your child needs, from DealDash.

Summer is ending soon and parents are thinking about their kids going back to school. They are wondering things like how their child will do academically. You should not worry as your child’s teacher will have that covered. What you should help your child do is learn some essential skills that will assist them in having the best school year that they can. Read on, for more information from DealDash.

Resiliency is Key

You will need to teach them resiliency. Basically, you want them to be able to bounce back easily from a difficult situation. For example, they might have gotten into a fight with a good friend or possibly have not done so well on a test. No matter what the situation, teach your child to be resilient. Show them how to be able to react well to any situation that may happen to them. Social situations can be especially tough on kids these days.

Take Responsibility

You also need to teach your child to take responsibility for their own actions. No matter if it is concerning their school work or their relationships with their peers. Let them know how important that it is to be able to take responsibility for everything that they do not only while they are in school but at home as well. People who take responsibility for their own actions, even when they are negative actions, get more respect.

Problem-Solving

Problem-solving is another essential skill that you need to teach your child this coming school year. You need them to be able to identify issues that they may be having and how to properly deal with them. A child that has good problem-solving skills is going to have a much more productive year than a child who cannot properly deal with problems that may come up during the school year. Problem-solving is a skill that will serve your child well when they are in school, and continue to serve them into adulthood.

DealDash Gets Your Kids School Schedule on Track

DealDash

School will be back in session in a few weeks. Get your kid’s schedule back on track with help from DealDash.

If your kids are anything like mine, they have been staying up later at night and sleeping later in the morning this summer. That’s perfectly fine and normal, but with school starting again in a few weeks it’s time to think about getting their sleeping and waking schedule back on track. Read on for more information, from DealDash.

Start Gradually

The reason that I am writing about this subject now when there are a few weeks of summer vacation still left, is because it’s best to adjust their schedule gradually. The more gradually you adjust their schedule, the less cranky they will be in the morning. Personally, I plan on adjusting their schedule 15 minutes at a time. My kids are off of their schedule by about an hour, so each week before school starts I plan on moving their bedtime and waking time up by 15 minutes. They will hardly notice the difference and will make the transition go much more smoothly. If your kids are off their schedule by hours, then you might have to do it by 30-minute increments instead.

How Much Sleep Do They Actually Need?

Depending on the ages of your child they will need different amounts of sleep. For example, my elementary school-aged children need a lot more sleep than my college-bound niece. According to the experts, young kids in elementary school should be getting 9-11 hours of sleep nightly, while teenagers ages 13-17 need about 8-10 hours. Younger adults aged 18-22 are recommended to receive about 7-9 hours. Of course, these are just guidelines. I have a 5-year-old who hasn’t taken a nap since she was 2, stays up late then wakes up earlier than the rest of the household.

DealDash Sleep Tips

Do your kids find it hard to go to sleep earlier at night? They might have a few habits in the daytime that are contributing to their restlessness at night. One of the biggest causes of restlessness at night is having too much screen time close to bedtime. Electronic devices such as phones, iPads, and laptops emit a light that “wakes up” your brain. If your child is using these devices too close to bedtime and is having trouble falling asleep, then I recommend shutting them off at least an hour before bed.

Another culprit that might be affecting your child’s sleep is caffeine. Older teens might be drinking too much coffee, but even younger kids might be getting too much caffeine through soda or food that they are eating. Try to observe what your kids are eating between lunch time and bedtime to see if there is anything with caffeine such as chocolate. When in doubt, have your kids drink extra water! It won’t hurt, and it will probably help!

Keeping Your Teeth Healthy With DealDash

DealDash

Keeping your teeth healthy and strong is a great goal. Let DealDash keep those pearly whites healthy.

Having a beautiful smile typically means having nice teeth, and the way to achieve this is by taking care of them. There are a few key aspects of having healthy teeth, and DealDash would like to explain them to you. Read on for more information.

Brush Them, of Course!

Ideally, you should brush your teeth after every meal. However, if you work outside of the home then that usually isn’t possible. At the least, you should brush your teeth in the morning when you wake, and in the evening before bedtime. Each of these teeth brushing sessions should be no shorter than 2 minutes in duration. Make sure that you get each and every tooth, and brush all sides of them – front, back, and biting surface.

Electric toothbrushes have really come a long way in the past few years. You should make it a priority to win one from DealDash. Electric toothbrushes do a much better job of brushing your teeth than you can manually.

Get Regular Dental Care

Few people enjoy going to the dentist, but if you want to keep your teeth in tip-top shape then you need to make the appointment. You should see a dentist for cleanings every 6 months. This is important to do because the dentist will scrape off the accumulated plaque that your toothbrush just can’t get. Secondly, dental cleanings are important because your dentist will be able to spot teeny, tiny cavities as they are just forming. Fixing a tiny cavity is significantly easier and less painful and time-consuming than fixing a big one.

Watch What You Eat and Drink

Drinking water is so healthy for many parts of the body, teeth included. Water is healthy for the gums, and can also help wash away small food particles that are stuck in your teeth.

There are many things on the “drink sparingly” list, such as sugary sodas, juices, and sweet tea. These drinks have so much sugar that can help cavities form on the teeth. Other drinks such as coffee and wine will stain the teeth, so be sure to rinse your mouth out after drinking them if you want to keep your teeth their whitest.

Everyone knows that eating candy is bad for your teeth, but what is healthy for your teeth? Crunchy vegetables! Vegetables such as raw carrots and celery, cucumbers, and broccoli are excellent for your dental health.

Thanks For Reading

Keeping your teeth healthy does not need to give you a headache. In fact, if you have a regular schedule of oral care it will make life much better. DealDash is here to help.

DealDash Helps Families Mediate Problems

DealDash

There will always be small family conflicts no matter how much you love each other. Here are some tips to help from DealDash.

Conflict mediation is a very important skill to have in a family, especially those who share a household. It allows everyone in the family to resolve any issues they have amongst each other, and it establishes a setting in which everyone is comfortable with speaking about their issues with one another. I’m sure you want to know how you can learn these skills to bring into your household. Don’t worry, DealDash is here to help. Read on for more information on solving family conflicts.

Don’t Take Sides in Mediation

The first thing you want to know when it comes to conflict mediation and resolution is to understand that you cannot take sides. Both parties involved are going to want you on their side, which can lead to making things worse. What you want to do is just listen, and understand the situation. Let both parties who have a disagreement speak their mind without interruption.

Ask Questions

Once you’ve let both parties speak, you can ask them questions like “how important is this to you?” or “will this matter in a day?” Questions like these can help open people’s eyes, and allow them to see past their initial anger or frustration. You want both parties to feel like they are both working towards a common goal, together.

Let the Problem Rest

You can also just give the situation a little time. To the disagreeing parties, it may seem like this is the one big argument that could tear the family apart. Luckily, however, with time, everyone involved will come to understand that the situation may not be that severe. People, especially family, tend to say things they don’t really mean in the heat of the moment. The best thing you can do is realize that what they’re saying is just affected by their current emotions and that they probably don’t really mean it.

Work it Out Outside

Another idea that might help resolve the problem is getting out in the fresh air for some exercise. A family walk, bike ride, swim, or game of badminton outside can help lighten the situation. This idea works especially well if the parties involved in the conflict are younger. Arranging it so they are on the same team or working towards a common goal can go a long way in strengthening their connection.

Bring in the Professionals

If your at-home conflict mediation doesn’t solve the problem, then it’s time to get some professional help. Booking a visit or two with a family counselor or mediator can really help the situation. It’s always helpful to get a neutral person’s opinion, especially when that person is a professional. With any luck, your problems will be solved and you can all move on as a happy family.

DealDash: Ready for School – Easier Homework Time

DealDash

Summer vacation is coming quickly to an end. Time to start thinking about school and homework, with DealDash.

Let’s face it no one really likes homework. In fact, many kids struggle with home work and getting it done so that they can hand in their assignments on time at school. Now that the first day of school is coming up soon you’ll want to start thinking about homework. Here are a few things that you can do as a parent to help make homework go a little easier for your child, with a little help from DealDash.

Ask the Teacher for Help

You can talk to your child’s teacher. Let them know if your child is having difficulty with homework and check on how they are doing in school. They might have been too shy to ask the teacher for extra help. You just may find that the teacher recommends things like getting a tutor or getting some extra help in school so that they will understand their homework better.

Let Them Take Breaks

If your child has a lot of homework you need to make sure that you allow them to take breaks. A 10-15 minute break after each homework subject is sufficient. You also want to teach them what an appropriate break would be, such as going outside for some fresh air. You might also suggest getting a healthy snack such as fruit as opposed to sitting down in front of the television for their break.

Try to Make it Fun

Trying to make homework fun is another thing that you can do to help make homework easier for your child. For example, there are countless videos on YouTube with different school subjects that make learning a lot of fun. This is a great option especially if your child is more of a visual learner. There are also online games that can teach and entertain at the same time.

Give Them Small Rewards

Be sure to reward your child’s good work. If your child has done well with getting their homework done all week then plan a fun activity that you can do together. This way your child will be excited to learn more and continue to do well with their homework. Younger children, especially, enjoy a visual reminder such as a chart that they can put a sticker on when their homework has been completed.

Thanks for Reading

Homework is not really fun for anyone. However, it does help your child progress academically. If you are able to help your child with their homework completed, school will become a lot easier for your child. You just may find they will do even better than expected in school.

Keeping your home organized can be a daunting task, especially if you have children. It does however not need to be this way. With these ten tips you will have your home organized in no time at all. Read on for more information, from DealDash.

1- Start Small

Starting small is definitely the way to go as if you try to do everything all at once you are going to get overwhelmed and get nothing done.

2- Make a Plan

Assess the situation so that you know exactly what you need to get done. Just diving right into the job with no organization is not a good plan as you are likely to get little done is the way of organizing your home

3- Don’t Go Alone! Get the Family Involved

Getting your family involved in your organizing your home. This is a great way to teach them responsibility for taking care of their things.

4- Room By Room Makes it Easier

Going room by room is going to help you keep track of what has been done and what needs to be done and again it will save you from being overwhelmed.

5- Do Some Research on Organizing

Doing a little research can also be helpful when you want to get some more organization in your home. You can visit websites that deal with home organization so you can see hat tips you can apply to your own home.

6- Get Your Supplies Ready Beforehand

Making sure that you will have all the needed supplies for organizing your home is another smart thing to do so that you will be able to complete all of the organizational tasks that you want to do to get your home organized.

7- Make it a Game

If you have been paying attention to these tips, then you are planning on getting your family involved. If you have kids, then making organizing a game can make them more eager to help you. Take a few clothes baskets and decide what you want in each one. Let the kids “play basketball” and throw the things in the baskets.

8- Listen to Music

There’s no need for organizing to be silent drudgery! Make an “organization playlist” on YouTube or Itunes. Fill it with upbeat and dancy songs. It will make your organizing go by much faster, I promise.

9- Do it When You’re Fresh

Don’t wait until the end of the day to try and get things organized. If you have time during the workday, then do it then. If you work a regular 9-5, then save the organizing for a weekend day. And remember, it’s much easier to do if you have been trying to keep things in their places all along.

10- Don’t Procrastinate, Get it Done

The best tip that you can remember for getting your home organized is to just make sure that you complete the work. Procrastination is your worst enemy when it comes to getting your home organized. So once you have done your research and you have all the needed supplies you just need to get the work done.

DealDash Helps: Kids in the Kitchen

dealdash

Do you have kids who like to “help”? Let DealDash help make kitchen time with kids go more smoothly with these tips.

The kitchen is a great place to spend some bonding time with your kids but that time can become stressful if you are not careful. Here are some tips to make any time spent in the kitchen with your kids a lot easier and even fun for you as the parent. Read on for more hints and tips from DealDash.

Let Them Get Their Hands Dirty

Starting with something simple that your kids can dig into with both hands is a great idea. You and the kids will have a fun project to do in the kitchen if you can relax and let them make a little mess. Hand formed cookies would be an excellent choice that would save you some stress. It’s easy, as all you need to do is add ingredients in a bowl and let your kids mix them up.

But Not Too Messy

Make sure that you teach your kids about good hygiene in the kitchen. If they are going to help in the kitchen you need to make sure that germs are not spread. Make sure they know things like when to wash their hands and to sneeze into an elbow away from the food being prepared. Make it a rule that they have to sing the ABCs as they wash their hands. This way ensures that they wash their hands for long enough to kill the germs.

Kitchen Safety is Paramount

Kitchen safety is also very important. You need to make sure your kids know that they need to stay away from a hot stove and let an adult use sharp knives to prepare food. This way everyone will stay safe while in the kitchen. A painful kitchen injury can make your kids wary of cooking in the future. Keep your kids safe, and they will learn to love cooking and preparing food in the kitchen.

Keep an Eye on the Time

You will want to relax and not watch the clock when cooking in the kitchen with your kids. A simple rule of thumb to follow would be if you have a recipe that takes 30 minutes you will need to double that if you have kids working in the kitchen. This way you will have plenty of time to help your kids with each part of the recipe.

Cooking with kids helps to teach them an important life skill. Also, it presents a great chance to bond with your kids while creating something in the kitchen. So make sure that you take as much stress as possible out of being in the kitchen with your kids so that you can relax and have fun.

Thanks for Reading

Cooking with kids may seem like a  daunting task. However, if you take the time to teach them well you will be delighted to see their progress in the kitchen.

DealDash: Shoo Out Those Negative Thoughts

DealDash

Having negative thoughts? Let DealDash help you shoo them right out the door!

Do you ever find yourself having negative thoughts? Almost everyone does, just like everyone has a bad day sometimes. Luckily, your negative thoughts can be turned around into positive or at least neutral ones. Read on for some tips, help, and suggestions from DealDash. We’ll shoo those negative thoughts away.

Get Out There Into the Sunshine!

If you find yourself having negative thoughts, then it’s time to change your surroundings. The best thing for you to do is to go outside and get some fresh air and sunshine. This is fairly easy to do in the summer. Even if you have kids and can’t go very far, just a walk around the block can change your mindset.

However, if you find yourself having negative thoughts in the winter when it’s too cold to go out, or if it’s dark, then go somewhere. Anywhere! You can go to the mall, coffee shop, or even just the grocery store. Sometimes just a small change in your surroundings can make your negative thoughts slip right out of your head.

Take a Bath

When I’m feeling a little down and negative, I like to take a bath. Firstly, because it’s very relaxing, but also because it’s nice to have some solitude sometimes. It’s also a fun and positive experience to use a bath bomb or bubble bath when you’re feeling negative. Not only that, it also helps relax your muscles and helps your body feel great. When your body feels great, then your thoughts are sure to follow.

Get Some Exercise

Speaking of your body feeling great, how about some exercise? When you find those negative thoughts taking over, then it’s time to exercise and get some of those “feel good” endorphins flowing. It doesn’t matter what kind of exercise. You can go to the gym, go for a run, or even just put on some music and dance. Anything that gets your body moving will help chase those negative thoughts right out the window. It’s not just your thoughts that will improve, either. Once your body gets even more fit and strong I bet you will have negative thoughts less often as well.

Thanks For Reading

Shooing out those negative thoughts can be a little tricky, but DealDash is here to help. Thanks for reading the newest DealDash article. DealDash First Aid Kit Essentials

DealDash

If your first aid kit consists of just a handful of band-aids, then this article is for you. Read on for more information from DealDash.

If you’ve never bought or made yourself a proper first aid kit, then now is the time. Since it’s summertime and there is beautiful weather, people are spending more time outside. This, I find, leads to many more cuts, scrapes, bug bites, and rashes from plants than in the winter time. Personally, I can get through the whole winter with nothing more than a paper cut and a headache, but when summer comes I have little scratches and bug bites all over my legs and arms! Making a first aid kit is easy. Keep reading for some directions from DealDash.

The First Aid Kit Container

There are many different ways to make up a first aid kit. Some people like to put the kit in a box that specifically says “First Aid”, other people like to put the items in a basket for easy access, and other people like to put the items in a bag so they are easier to take on-the-go. Depending on if your family spends a lot of time either at home or on-the-go will determine what kind of container that you will use to make your kit.

Bandages and Wound Covering

Surprisingly, you will need many more bandages in your first aid kit than just band-aids. Band-aids are great for tiny cuts or minor scrapes, but when your cut is longer than 1/2 an inch or so, then you’ll want to go with a bandage with more coverage. Here is a list of the bandage items that you will need for your first aid kit.

  • Assorted adhesive bandages
  • Butterfly bandages / adhesive wound-closure strips
  • Gauze pads (various sizes)
  • Nonstick sterile pads
  • Medical adhesive tape
  • Hemostatic (blood-stopping) gauze
  • Liquid bandage

Keep It Sterile

You need to sterilize your wounds, especially if you are already outside and have dirty hands and a dirty wound area. Here is what you should have in your first aid kit for cleaning and sterilization.

  • Antiseptic wipes (BZK-based wipes preferred; alcohol-based OK)
  • Antibacterial ointment (e.g., bacitracin)
  • First-aid cleansing pads with topical anesthetic
  • Hand sanitizer (BKZ- or alcohol-based)

Medications

These medications and treatments are a good idea to keep in your first aid kit. Be sure to check the expiration dates on them every year. Try to pick an easy date to remember to check them every year such as during the first week of the year, or at the beginning or end of summer.

  • Ibuprofen / other pain-relief medication
  • Insect sting relief treatment (anti-itch)
  • Antihistamine to treat allergic reactions
  • Aspirin (primarily for response to a heart attack)
  • Antacid tablets
  • Throat lozenges
  • Lubricating eye drops
  • Poison ivy and/or poison oak treatment
  • Prescription medications (e.g., antibiotics, if needed)
  • Injectable epinephrine to treat allergic reactions (if needed)

Thanks for Reading

Finally, thanks a lot for reading the newest DealDash article on making a first aid kit. I hope that you have learned a little something today that will be useful for your life.

DealDash’s Safety Tips for Teen Drivers

DealDash

Have a teen who is driving or will be soon? Read these safety tips from DealDash.

As a teen approaches their 16th (or 17th, depending on your state) birthday their parents must get ready to prepare another driver for the open road. It can be a scary thought having your child operating a motor vehicle so you need to make sure that they are fully prepared for the privilege of driving a car. Here are three safety tips that will assist in making sure that your child is a safe driver. Read on for more information from DealDash.

No Drunk Driving, Please

You want your child to definitely say no to operating a  motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol. Not only can this result in a deadly car accident it can also result in fines, and jail or prison time. Newly licensed teen drivers are at a big enough risk when they are on the road due to inexperience they do not need to add to the risk but driving under the influence.

Please make a pact (print it up and sign it) saying that you will pick them up anywhere and anytime that they call as long as they do not drive drunk or get into a car with an impaired driver. Also, include that they will not face any punishment if they call you for help. Make sure to periodically check in with them that they remember your agreement.

Keep the Distractions to a Minimum

Distractions such as technology, loud music, or too many people in the car is also something that should be discussed with your teen. Make sure that they keep their focus on  road. Tell them that it will be a while before they can drive with a car full of friends. Also, have them keep their cell phone away in a pocket or purse where it won’t encourage them to use it while the are out driving. Keeping as many distractions as you can away from your teen driver is going to help you keep them safe. In some states, teens are only permitted to drive with adults or one other teen in the car when they first receive their license. Check out the laws in your state for more information.

Seat Belts. Every.Single.Time.

It cannot be stressed enough how important it is for your teen to wear their seat belt while driving a car. Over half of the teens that were killed in car crashes were not wearing their seat belts. You need to keep telling your teen driver how important driving with a seat belt on is so that putting it on will become a habit. Honestly, this good habit begins in childhood. Be sure that you are wearing your seat belt at all times.

My personal rule is that the car stays in “Park” until everyone’s (including the adults) seat belts are fastened. I was so proud of my daughter the other day – we were at the YMCA, it was raining, and we had parked in the back of the parking lot. Before we got out I saw a spot open up by the door, so I started to move the car. My daughter said “MAMA! You need to put your seat belt on before the car moves!” And so I did. That’s one girl that will always put on her seat belt, thankfully.

Thanks For Reading

Having a teenage driver can be a scary prospect. However, if you take the time to prepare them for this privilege you  will have a much simpler time in keeping them safe while they are on the open road.

DealDash Loves Small Animal Pets

DealDash

There are many reasons to love having small animals for a pet. Here is some more information from DealDash.

Do you love animals but live in a small apartment or a rental that doesn’t allow bigger pets like a dog or cat? Or maybe you or a family member is allergic to dogs and cats? Possibly you just love small animals! All of these are great reasons to choose a small animal such as a bunny, guinea pig, or hamster as a pet instead of a larger animal. Here are some great things about small animal pets from DealDash.

DealDash Loves Hamsters

Hamsters are just so cute! They come in a variety of colors and even sizes. From the small Russian Hamster to the larger Teddy Bear Hamster, they are all adorable. They don’t need very much in the way of space at all. Many hamsters live in either a 10-gallon aquarium with a screen top or in a special wire cage that is made specifically for small animals. When I worked at a pet store long ago, hamsters were the most popular animals that we sold. Everyone loved to hold the cute little things.

Mice Are Cute, Too

If you’re interested in a pet that is even smaller than a hamster, choose a mouse! If you’re new to owning mice, you should start out with a few (two or three) females. They love to live in groups and will entertain each other and bond. If you prefer to have a male, they should be kept alone. They don’t care for other mice as companions. Mice need many similar items such as a 10-gallon aquarium with a screen top or a wire cage. Also, they should have an exercise wheel and a drip bottle for water.

Bunnies Are the Best!

How can you not look at a cute little bunny and not smile? Bunnies make wonderful pets and are much more fun and interactive than a hamster or mouse who primarily spends their day in a cage. Rabbits prefer to be part of the household and need to spend time outside of their enclosure every day. Bunnies love to be a part of your family and make a lovely companion to anyone, especially children.

Be Sure That You Have the Supplies

If you are planning on getting a small animal, be sure that you have all of their supplies set up and ready for them before you buy the pet. It sounds like common sense. However, it was very common to see customers at the pet store buying the supplies at the same time as the pet. When you purchase a pet from the pet store they are usually quite scared at first. It’s much kinder to take them home and immediately put them in their new home instead of having to wait until everything is set up for them. So please be kind, and set up your pet’s new home before you bring them home.

DealDash Saves Grocery Money With Coupons

DealDash

Don’t waste money on things you could use a coupon on! Let DealDash give you more information.

When many people look at their monthly budget they see that the food that they purchase is taking up a large portion of the money that they spend every month. This leads people to start looking for ways to start saving money on their monthly grocery bill. One way to accomplish this is to start using coupons. DealDash has more information for you, read on.

Where Can I Get Coupons?

The first thing that you will want to do is to make sure that you find out where you can get ahold of some coupons. You can find them in several locations. You can get them from your grocery store, look online and look in your newspaper for a few examples. If you are serious about couponing, then you will want to do a combination of coupon-gathering ideas.  Some people even write to their favorite companies and successfully request coupons to be sent to them. Once you have gathered up your coupons, you are ready to make a list and go shopping.

Learn Each Store’s Policy For Couponing

Next, you will want to request your favorite store’s written policies for coupons, as you want to make sure that you maximize your savings with them. You need to learn about things like stacking coupons, double coupons and matching coupons with items that are on sale. You need the store’s policy on coupons so you can know that you will be using them correctly. Otherwise, you might be wasting your time with a shopping trip when the cashier rejects your coupons at the register.

Keep Your Coupons Organized

Organizing your coupons is also highly recommended as you want to know exactly which coupons that you can use for the store that you happen to be shopping in. There are many ways to organize your coupons from putting them in envelopes to putting them in binders. Personally, I have a small accordion-type folder that I keep my coupons in. I keep them separated by little tabs that were included in the folder. If you’re serious about couponing you’ll want to invest in something to organize your coupons.

Cull Out the Expired Coupons

Lastly you want to make sure that you take the time to go through your coupons to make sure that you get rid of the coupons that have expired. Nothing would be worse than counting on savings from coupons only to find that they have expired. Try to cull out the expired coupons once per week, that way you can keep on top of the problem and it won’t get out of hand.

Thanks for Reading

Grocery shopping with coupons may seem like a  daunting task. However, if you take the time to learn how to properly use them you will be delighted to see the savings that they can offer you.

DealDash Makes Homemade Baby Food

DealDash

Making your own baby food sounds complicated. Let DealDash give you some more information.

Do you have a newborn or young baby? As you probably know, as your baby gets older they will start to additional nutrition aside from what breast milk or formula provides for them. This might lead you to wonder if homemade baby food is right for your baby. You might find that it takes a little more work to give your baby homemade baby food but this choice is not without its benefits. Here are some things that you’ll want to think about if you’re trying to decide is making homemade baby food is right for you, from DealDash.

Much More Affordable

Homemade baby food is very affordable and will save you a trip to the grocery store if you buy your materials in bulk. You just need to select foods that are right for your baby’s age and you can often prepare meals ahead of time. If you prefer to cook in large batches, then try freezing your homemade baby food in ice cube trays! You will quickly see that there is quite the difference between homemade baby food and it’s store bought counterpart. By saving money here you will be able to spend more money on things like diapers and clothes for your baby, or use that extra money and bid on some toys for your baby on DealDash.

Extremely Nutritious, No Fillers

Homemade baby food is very nutritious. You will get the opportunity to decide everything that goes into your baby’s food. This will give you control over what your baby consumes so you know that they will be eating healthy foods. This is a wonderful option for many parents, especially those who have a baby with allergies. If you look on the label of a pre-jarred baby food from the store you might see fillers inside such as corn. When you make your own homemade baby food there are no fillers, just good, wholesome food.

So Much Variety

There are countless options available for those that make their own baby food. You will not have to settle for the limited options presented by the supermarket. As your baby gets older you will be able to mix several ingredients together to make a tasty and nutritious meal for your child. This is a great option as you can experiment to find out what your baby really enjoys eating.

As an example, most babies do not like sour things. However, my daughter absolutely loved sour and vinegar flavors when she was a baby (and still does!), so when I made her baby food I would add a squeeze of lemon or lime in her baby food. You won’t find that in pre-jarred baby food!

Think About It

So is homemade baby food the right choice for you and your child? If you find that you have the time to prepare it, if you are concerned about what your baby consumes, and finally if you wouldn’t mind being able to save a little money then yes homemade baby food would be an excellent choice.

Thanks for Reading

Finally, thanks a lot for reading the newest DealDash article on making baby food. I hope that you have learned a little something about making homemade baby food today.

DealDash Flies Kites

DealDash

Flying a kite can be a fun pastime for kids, adults, and families. Here are some tips for kite flying from DealDash.

Kite flying can be as easy as challenging as you like. There are many different types of kites that are for beginners, intermediates, or advanced flyers. Choosing the right kite and the right conditions is paramount to your success as a kite flyer. Here are some tips and tricks from DealDash to get you started on your way to being a kite flying master.

Choose the Correct Kite

If you’re a beginner, then the first kite that you probably think of when you hear the word “kite” is a diamond kite. A diamond kite is the traditional shape of kite that you can find pretty much anywhere, and see flying high in the sky on sunny afternoons in your local parks. These kites are easy to put together, easy to fly, and are inexpensive. If you’re looking for a kite that will fly in light to medium winds, then this is the kite for you. A diamond kite should fly well in winds that range from 5 to 15 miles per hour.

Beginner Kites

Firstly, if you are a beginner to intermediate, then you can branch out into other single line kites that are not a diamond kite. These kites can have many different shapes and are also fairly easy to fly. Also, the “single line” refers to the string that you are holding. These kites are well suited to light to medium winds, just like the traditional diamond kite.

DealDash

Next, box kites are for more advanced kite flyers. These kites are a little more difficult to build and also to get into the air. They are called box kites because of the shape, they are 3-dimensional rather than flat like a diamond kite. These kites need stronger winds to fly them, approximately 10 to 25 mile per hour winds will make these beauties soar.

DealDash

Advanced Kites

Lastly, dual line kites are for the most advanced kite flyer. Sometimes dual line kites are called “stunt” kites and definitely need a much higher level of skill to use. However, these kites are also the most versatile, you can fly them in most winds, from light to heavy. Also, since there are two lines coming from the kite the flyer has much more control over where the kite goes and what it does.

DealDash Helps: Survive Food Shopping With Kids

DealDash

Need some help shopping with your kids? Here are some tips and tricks from DealDash to help.

Grocery shopping with small children is no easy task. No matter if they’re your kids, grandkids, or kids that you are babysitting, it is really a chore. We have all been there in the grocery store shopping when a small child has a meltdown when told they cannot get what they want. Glad that it isn’t your child? Well what if it was? Here are some ways to survive grocery day when you are in charge of small kids.

Make Sure the Kids Are Prepared

The first thing that you need to do is to make sure that you go shopping after your child has had a nap. Always keep in mind that a sleepy kid is going to be a grumpy kid so you need to avoid this at all costs.

You also want to make sure that they have eaten something after their nap so they are not hungry while shopping. It might be tempting to think that you are just going to feed them something at the store while you are shopping, but that is generally frowned upon by store management. However, sometimes it’s unavoidable.

Give Your Child a “Job”

Letting your child be “in charge” of driving the cart is another thing that you can do to have an easier time at the grocery store. You can ask your child something like “Can you take us to the vegetables?” and then let them use their imagination as far as how to get to where you need to go. This will keep their minds occupied so their will be less of a chance of them being upset for some reason while you are shopping. This won’t work with small toddlers, of course. They lack the strength needed to push the cart.

If you have a smaller child that wants to walk while you are grocery shopping you can give them small tasks to complete while getting groceries. Have them pick out a snack for after your trip or grab the vegetables that you need. This will help them stay busy while you are shopping.

Thanks for Reading

Finally, thanks a lot for reading the newest DealDash article on shopping with kids. Grocery shopping with small children is a task that most moms, dads, and grandparents dread. However, if you have a plan in place on how to make grocery shopping a lot smoother you will see that it will be easier to survive the trip to the grocery store.

Here are some speed cleaning tips to help busy parents or grandparents get their home straightened quickly. This way they can take care of other things. Read on for more information from DealDash.

Clean as You Go (Now That’s Fast)

If you are able to, cleaning as you go is one of the best speed cleaning tips that you can pick up. All you need to remember is to clean and pick up after yourself and your kids as you are doing other things. If you are great a multitasking this should be no problem. However, if you are not it may take a little time to get used to but it can be done.

Split the Cleaning Up

Don’t feel like you need to clean your entire home in one day. Split up the chores that need to be done over a couple of days. You will find that it will seem like the work goes much faster. This is a smart tip for busy moms that get a little overwhelmed with too many things to do during the day. Taking care of the kids is hard work and they need constant attention. Luckily the cleaning can wait until the next day if you have too many activities to accomplish.

Have the Correct Supplies on Hand

You also want to make sure that you always have the proper cleaning supplies on hand for cleaning. It can take what seems like forever to clean when you have to get your kids ready to go to the store to get what you need to be able to clean your home. Buy in bulk so you have to go to the store less often. Keep things organized and put things on the shopping list when you see you are going to run out of them soon.

Make Checklists

Developing a checklist of things that need to be done daily and weekly is a great way to get things picked up quickly. You simply come up with a schedule of when you are going to do each task and you will find that your home will be cleaned in no time at all. If you can get into a regular cleaning schedule you can eliminate the checklists, but they are a good idea to use when you are first starting out.

DealDash Dog Grooming at Home

DealDash

If you have a dirty doggie, you can groom him at home. Here are some tips and tricks from DealDash.

Earlier this week we talked about how to wash your dog if he gets sprayed by a skunk. If you missed that article, then just click right here to read it. Sometimes your dog might get a little stinky even without getting sprayed by a skunk. Keep reading to get more information about grooming your dog at home.

Brush His Teeth Daily

You wouldn’t skip a day without brushing your teeth (I hope!) so why should your dog? He might hate it at first, but if you continue brushing his teeth every day he will eventually get used to it and co-operate with you when you do his daily brushing.

In addition to brushing his teeth, there are also different sorts of dog chews on the market that are meant to clean your dog’s teeth. These are really not a substitute for actual teeth brushing no matter what it says on the package, but they make a nice addition to regular teeth brushing. They can also be used when you aren’t able to brush your dog’s teeth such as if you have a dog-sitter for the weekend.

Brush the Dog Daily

Some short-haired breeds might not look like the need daily brushing, but you should, anyway. Not only does brushing straighten up the hair, it also loosens up the dead hair, gives a skin massage, and also redistributes the oils of the coat to make your dog’s fur look shinier and more healthy.

Clip the Dog’s Nails

Before you bathe your dog, clip his nails. If your dog has clear-colored nails, great! This will be easy. Simply trim away the clear part and stop before you hit the quick, which is the pink part of the nail closest to the paw. Unfortunately, if your dog has dark nails this will be more difficult to do, and you might need to take him to a groomer or vet.

Bathe Your Dog

It depends on your dog’s fur and lifestyle how often you need to bathe your dog. If you have a dog that rarely goes outside or gets dirty then you might be able to bathe him once per month. However, if you have an active dog who loves to roll around in the dirt and get messy then you might need to bathe him every week, or as needed.

The actual task of bathing the dog is simple. Just fill up your tub about 1/3 of the way with lukewarm water. Place your dog in the tub, get his fur wet by pouring water over him with a cup or by using a shower head attachment. Massage in some doggie shampoo, and rinse. Dry him with a nice, fresh towel, and give him a treat. Simple!

DealDash Helps: Clean Stuffed Animals

DealDash

Kids love stuffed animals, sometimes a little bit too much. DealDash is here to help you clean your kid’s stuffed animals.

Little children love their stuffed animals so much, and many like to take them everywhere with them. This means that the stuffed animals can get very dirty and grungy. Some stuffed animals are easy to just toss in the washing machine, but others take a little more TLC to get clean. Luckily, DealDash is here to help you clean those stuffed animals and make them like new again. Read on for more information from DealDash.

Use the Washing Machine

If you can wash your stuffed animals in the washing machine it’s the easiest way. However, be sure to check the tag on them before you wash them to make sure they will hold up. If it’s an older stuffed animal that needs a little stitching here and there because the stuffing is coming out then I wouldn’t wash it in the machine. No matter what shape the stuffed animal is in, make sure that you stick it in a mesh washing bag to protect it even further. Use the gentle cycle, and hang up the animal to dry.

Wash It By Hand

If you have an older or more fragile stuffed animal, then you’re going to need to wash it by hand. Don’t worry, it won’t take too long, and it will be worth it to make your child happy and give them back their favorite stuffed animal fully intact.

Washing a stuffed animal by hand is simple! You can use a sink, small wash basin, or in the case of a larger stuffed animal, a bathtub. Fill the container up as far as you need to cover the animal with warm water. While the container is filling up, pour in some baby shampoo. If it’s gentle enough for your baby’s delicate skin, then it’s good enough for the baby’s stuffed animal.

Let the animal soak for a few minutes, gently rubbing the fur, especially in the dirty spots. After the animal is sufficiently clean, then drain the water and rinse off the animal with clean water. After that gently pat dry with a towel, then hang up to dry.

If You Can’t Wash the Animal

Some stuffed animals can’t be washed due to their age, condition, or material that they are made out of. In these cases, there are a few other options. You can spritz them with Febreeze, spray them down with Lysol, or even just put them out in the sunlight to kill the germs.

DealDash Deseeds Pomegranates

DealDash

Pomegranates are delicious and versatile, but a huge pain to get the seeds from. Here is how DealDash deseeds pomegranates.

If you’re a faithful DealDash Reviewed reader, then you might remember the pomegranate salsa recipe from last week. If you missed it, you can check it out at this link right here. However, as delicious as pomegranates are, they are very difficult and time-consuming to deseed. Luckily, there are two simple ways that you can get those yummy pomegranate seeds out from the fruit. Read on for more details.

Method One – Tapping

The first method is a little bit messier than the second, but they are both viable ways to get those seeds out of the pomegranate. The first thing that you want to do is take the pomegranate and gently but firmly roll it around on a hard surface like your table or kitchen countertop. This helps separate the seeds from the membrane.

Next, cut all the way around the stem, taking special care to only cut through the skin of the pomegranate and not the seeds. This can be a little difficult to do your first few times, but you’ll get the hang of it. After you cut all the way around then pull the top off.

Finally, make slices through the skin every few inches around the opening that you cut. Turn the pomegranate upside-down over a bowl, and whack with a wooden spoon. The little seeds will just pop right down into the bowl with very little mess.

Method 2 – Underwater

The second method that we are going to explore today is practically mess-free and very simple as well. You will start out the same way as above, cutting around the stem and pulling off the top.

Next, make four cuts around the perimeter of the fruit.

Finally, stick the pomegranate underwater in a large bowl. Pull the pomegranate apart in four sections.

After you’ve pulled the fruit apart the little seeds should start coming out with just a little poking with your fingers. All of the mess stays in the bowl. Easy!

Pomegranate seeds are perfect for sprinkling on salads or using in recipes. Once you have the basics down of how to get the seeds out with ease, then you can incorporate pomegranates into more of your meals.

Survive a DealDash Family Road Trip with Sanity Intact

DealDash

Not everyone likes to travel by air. Here are some tips and tricks to have a family road trip from DealDash.

When I was a kid we never went on very many family road trips, I was an only child, so it was easier and more cost-effective to just fly. However, my husband is one of three children, and their method of having a family vacation was the road trip. Read on for more information on family road trips.

Separate But Equal Entertainment

For school-aged children, it’s the best practice to have some handheld games for them in the car. Be it an iPad, some other tablet, an old cell phone with games on it, or whatever you can figure out. Each child over the age of 3 should really have their own, with things that they like on it.

If you prefer that they don’t use tablets for games, then be sure that they have something to watch. You can get very inexpensive DVD players with screens that go on the headrest of your seats. If your children are of a similar age, then they can watch the same movie. Personally, I have a 9, 5, and 1 year old, so there are very few things that appeal to all of them.

Paper Entertainment Can Be Fun

As interested in electronics as most children are, it’s easy to forget about good old-fashioned paper entertainment. It doesn’t have to be books for reading, it could be magazines, coloring books, puzzle books, mazes, paint with water books, or other types of paper entertainment. Of course, if your kids like to read, then, by all means, bring along some books. Only one out of my three can read, though, and he doesn’t even want to, so I skip the reading books.

Never Underestimate the Joy of Headphones

If your children are music fans, then why not get them each a cheap MP3/4 player and download them their favorite music? You can get very inexpensive small music players that will hold hundreds of songs. Be sure to pick up some kid-safe headphones. These headphones don’t allow the volume to be turned up any higher than a safe volume.

Some kids aren’t crazy about music. However, they still might enjoy audiobooks or even podcasts. If you have a stubborn one who doesn’t like either, then how about some headphones for yourself instead? Honestly, if you could get each of your children to wear their own headphones it will cut down on a lot of arguing on your trip.

Baby Oil – Not Just for Babies, DealDash

DealDash

There are a surprising amount of uses for baby oil that don’t involve babies. Here are a few from DealDash.

Baby oil is a simple formula – it’s approximately 98% mineral oil and 2% fragrance. So basically, baby oil is a lightly scented mineral oil combination. Mineral oil is good for the skin, it won’t clog your pores because it sits on top of your skin and creates a protective barrier for your skin. It also will help your skin keep its moisture in the winter. The only time when mineral oil isn’t good for your skin is if you attempt to use it as a tanning agent by rubbing it on your skin and sitting in the sun. This is dangerous and I don’t advise it. There are many more uses for baby oil, here are some from DealDash.

Use as a Massage Oil

There’s no need to buy expensive massage oils when you have some baby oil on hand. Baby oil is around $2-$4, and massage oils start at $10 and go up in price from there, so baby oil is the clear choice if you’re massaging on a budget. If you love massages, have you seen the neck and foot massagers that are offered on DealDash? There are also massage chairs available as well.

Gum in Your Hair? No Problem!

If you or your child has the bad luck to have gum in your hair, it’s not a problem. Baby oil can fix that problem for you. Simply take some baby oil in your hands and apply it to the gum in your hair. Work it around, and add more baby oil if needed. The gum should come out with little difficulty.

Eye Makeup Remover

Oils are great for removing eye makeup, even the waterproof type. Personally, I prefer coconut oil to remove eye makeup because I like the smell. However, believe it or not, some people don’t like the smell of coconut. If you’re one of those people, then maybe baby oil is your eye makeup removal solution. Just put some on a cotton ball or cotton round, and gently rub off all of the eye makeup. After it’s gone, follow up with a second cotton ball or cotton round to get off the remainder.

Temporary Tattoo Remover

I’m guessing that most of the people who are reading this blog are past the temporary tattoo stage, but if you have a child or grandchild who likes them, then read on. Baby oil is excellent for removing a temporary tattoo. Just get a cotton ball, apply the baby oil, and let it sit on the tattoo for a minute or two. It should come off without too much scrubbing.

DealDash Helps: Control Foot Odor

DealDash

Now that we are in the midst of summer, it’s time to control foot odor. Here are some tips and suggestions from DealDash.

Foot odor is a big problem for many people. Luckily, there are a few different things that you can do to help with this problem. If you follow these tips and tricks from DealDash your feet will be smelling sweet in no time.

Clean Them Well

This should go without saying – but make sure that you are washing your feet thoroughly in the shower. Many people seem to think that when they are standing in the shower their feet will be magically cleaned with the water that is running down your body, but you really need to soap up those feet and wash them well.

Dry Them Thoroughly

Again, it sometimes seems that people think that their feet will just take care of themselves. Sure, they will dry eventually, but just stepping out onto the bath mat does not automatically dry your feet. The reason that your feet smell bad is bacteria, and wet, moist areas are prone to bacteria growth. So dry those feet off with a nice fluffy, dry towel. Don’t forget in-between those toes!

Put Powder on Them

After you’ve washed and dried your feet take care of them with a dusting of talcum powder. You can also use baking soda or even cornstarch. These powders will keep your feet dry and help absorb sweat.

Don’t Let Them Sweat

Instead of drying out the sweat, how about not letting them sweat at all? Surprisingly enough, you can put antiperspirant on your feet.  Yes, the same exact stuff that you put under your arms to control your sweating. You can use a spray, stick, or gel antiperspirant on the bottoms of your feet. You should try to do this right before you go to bed at night. Otherwise, be sure to put on socks after the antiperspirant has dried, otherwise, the bottoms of your feet will be slippery.

Give Your Feet a Soak

There are many different foot soaks that you can try. Some different types of foot soaks include apple cider vinegar, epsom salt, or even tea! Yes, all of these ingredients can each make a wonderful foot soak. Try one of these ingredients each weekend for a great variety of foot soaking fun.

Make a Cat Condo With DealDash

DealDash

Making a cat condo is one of the nicest things that you can do for your furry friend. Here are some tips and suggestions on how to make a cat condo from DealDash.

Do you already have lots of cat toys or even a cat tree and think you don’t need a cat condo? Think again, because cat condos similar to cat trees but they are not the same. A cat tree is more of a playground for cats, and a cat condo can be a playground as well as have many cubbies for the cat to hide or sleep in. Having a cat condo is nice if your house has small children or dogs because they will give your cat a safe place to hide, relax, and sleep without worrying. Read on for more information from DealDash.

Use Human Furniture

The quickest and easiest way to make a cat condo for your beloved pet is to make it out of discarded human furniture! Simply go to a yard sale or a thrift shop and find a small rectangular coffee table and a small square side table. Both of these need to be of similar width, but it’s okay if the side table is a bit smaller.

Paint the Tables

If you’d like to leave the tables wooden or whatever color they already are, that’s fine, you can skip down to the next step. However, your cat condo will be much more festive and fun if you paint the tables fun colors. You can take them outside and spray paint them if you like. If you prefer to paint indoors, then get acrylic paint and paint brush. Make sure that wherever you are painting you lay down some newspaper or a drop cloth so you don’t stain your surfaces.

Attach the Small Table

Put the small square table at one of the ends of the larger rectangular table. The other half of the larger rectangular table should be empty to create a shelf for the cat to sit upon.

You can attach the small table in a few different ways. The easiest way is to glue it with wood glue. You can also flip everything upside down and hammer nails into the underside of the larger table and into the legs of the smaller table. You can also use L-shaped brackets and screw them in from the sides to attach the legs. It’s your choice, but personally, I would go with the wood glue.

Add Sisal Rope for Scratching

The next step is to add sisal rope to some (or all) of the table legs for scratching. Cats love to scratch on sisal rope. By adding the sisal rope to this cat condo you will possibly be saving the life of your rugs and furniture.

Firstly, scuff the entire leg of the table with large-grained sandpaper, then apply wood glue to the first few inches of the leg. Begin wrapping the sisal rope around the leg until you have run out of the glue that you applied. Apply a few more inches of glue to the leg, and wrap more sisal rope. Continue gluing and wrapping the sisal rope until you have completely covered the entire table leg. Repeat this step for as many other legs of the tables as you like.

Add Carpet for Scratching and Comfort

If you can obtain some carpet to put on the cat condo, your cat will love you for it. If you don’t have access to any carpet samples, consider getting an extremely cheap welcome mat to use for this purpose. You can typically find one at the discount store for around $5-10.

Get the measurements of the top of the small square table and cut the carpet to fit. Scuff up the top of the small table with rough sandpaper to prepare it for the carpet. Next, apply wood glue to the entire surface. Also, apply wood glue to the back of the carpet. Finally, press the carpet down onto the table top. You can repeat this process for the larger rectangular table top as well, or leave it bare. It’s your choice. Your cat condo is done! I hope kitty likes it!

DealDash Entertains Kids in Summer

DealDash

Summer vacation has been here for a week, and my kids are already bored. Here are some ideas from DealDash to entertain the kids for the summer.

I have three kids, two of them old enough to be bored with summer vacation already. My kid’s summer camp is only 3 hours long, what can we do to fill the rest of the day? Here are some tips and ideas from DealDash to keep kids occupied during the summer.

Put Them to Work

When you say “put them to work” that sounds like a recipe for scowls and whining, right? Not if you give them fun work. I have a nice container garden this year with multiple types of tomatoes and tons of strawberry plants – along with some fruit trees that I planted this year. The kids love to go out and water the trees and the garden for me. I fill up a big bucket and let them water the plants however they want – the watering can, little scoops, or even water guns! If you go this route, be sure that you go behind them and re-water any plants that didn’t get enough water.

If you don’t have a garden try and think of some other “fun” jobs for your kids. Washing the car, sorting their toys, or even just digging a hole in the yard can be a lot of fun for kids. The best thing about these types of activities is they are almost totally free!

Head to the Duck Pond

Save up your bread crusts and heels of bread until you have a bag full and head down to the duck pond. Kids love to feed the ducks, and the ducks appreciate the extra snack. While you’re there you can take a little time out for a wildlife lesson, you should be able to find turtles, frogs, and tons of bugs at your local pond. Try taking pictures of the creatures and see if you can find out what type they are when you get home. If you make trips to the duck pond a regular occurrence your kids will gain a deeper appreciation of nature and look forward to your trips.

Swimming Lessons

Summer swimming lessons are not only fun but extremely important for water safety. You can find reasonably priced summer swimming lessons at your local YMCA or Boys & Girls Club. They have different levels of lessons by age and ability. Your kids will enjoy swimming lessons, and you will be able to rest a little bit easier knowing that your kids have this lifesaving skill.

DealDash Makes an Emergency Kit

DealDash

Making an emergency kit is important. Let DealDash help you prepare for an emergency.

Too often people only think about preparing for an emergency after one has happened. With a little help from DealDash, you can put together an emergency kit quickly, easily, and thoroughly. Don’t be caught in an emergency without your emergency kit. Read on for more information.

Food and Water

When disaster strikes, you’re going to need food and water. The recommended amount of water per person, per day is 150 ounces. If we are packing a 3-day emergency kit that is approximately 3.5 gallons of water per person. You can get gallon jugs of water at the supermarket and keep them next to your emergency pack with your other supplies. Just be sure to replace these gallon jugs every year. The water doesn’t expire, but the plastic jugs do! You can use the extra water for drinking, watering plants, cooking with, or anything else you like.

The recommended amount of calories per person, per day is 1500-2000 calories. The smartest and best space-saving foods are meal or protein bars. Keep a couple of boxes of different varieties in your emergency kit. Nuts, dried fruit, and tuna in a pouch are also great foods to keep in your kit. Please be cognizant of the expiration dates on these items and replace them as needed.

Blankets and Towels

Be sure to pack a foil-type emergency blanket for each family member. They fold up very small and can act as a ground cloth, they can retain body heat, act as a vapor barrier and windbreaker, etc. Packing a large (beach type) towel for each family member is a good idea as well, they can be used for many things such as a blanket, can be ripped up for bandages, as a ground cover, etc.

Bathroom and Medical Items

A couple of rolls of toilet paper, some pocket packs of tissues, and a container of baby wipes are a must for your emergency kit. Other items you might want to include are feminine supplies, diapers if you have a baby, a small container of Tylenol, band-aids, a roll of gauze, some gauze pads, medical tape, alcohol wipes, some burn/wound cream, toothbrush and paste, disposable rubber gloves, and a washcloth for each family member.

Clothing

You’ll want to pack a whole set of clothing for each family member. A whole set includes underwear, socks, short-sleeve undershirt, long-sleeve shirt, and jeans. If you have the extra room I suggest adding extra pairs of socks and underwear. If you have small children you’ll want to swap out their clothing set each year for larger clothing.

Extra Supplies

I could put a huge list of extra supplies here, but the goal of this emergency kit is for all of the items (except the gallons of water) to fit into a small carry-on suitcase or a large duffle bag. Additionally, here are a few more things that you might want to add. A Swiss Army knife, hand-crank and/or solar flashlight and radio, instant heat packs, a roll of duct tape, larger folding knife, matches/lighter/fire starter, small sewing kit, and finally, copies of birth certificates and IDs, and house keys in double-bagged zip lock bags.

I bet there are lots of little things around your house that you have been neglecting. Maybe it’s that giant pile of unopened mail, maybe it’s yard work, or maybe just dusting. If you can make a list of these small things around the house that you need to do, then go through the list and do them, you’ll feel much better. Once you see how easy it was to do these small things around the house you will be more confident in doing more and more of your goals.

Cut Down On Your Wasted Time

Think of all of those wasted hours on the computer doing nothing. Of course, feel free to check your email, win some auctions on DealDash, and chat with your friends and family. However, there are probably lots of times that you are just idly just browsing online with no particular thing in mind. Try to be cognizant of what you’re doing online and when you find yourself looking up random information that isn’t really important at that moment, turn off the computer and walk away. I bet that will free up some extra time in your day to do something more important.

Wok Cooking With DealDash

DealDash

Depending on what you’re making, a wok can be an excellent choice. Here are some tips and idea from DealDash for wok cooking.

Wok cooking is traditionally Asian in nature, and some people might have never even used a wok. I’m here to tell you that wok cooking is fast, easy, and delicious. You can always just use a frying pan, but there are many advantages to using a wok instead. Read on for more details on wok cooking from DealDash.

Cook Food Faster

Firstly, and possibly most important to many people is the fact that cooking with a wok is a lot faster than using a traditional pan. The main reason that you can cook foods so much faster by using a wok is in the design. The wok has been designed to disperse the heat more effectively throughout the base of the frying pan, and as a result taking much less time to finish food preparation.

Cook a Variety of Foods in the Wok

Step aside, frying pan. The wok is here to school you on cooking a variety of different types of food. Sure, you can cook things like eggs and bacon in a frying pan, but in the wok, you can cook those AND so much more. Here are some examples: stir frying, steaming, deep frying, poaching, boiling, braising, searing, stewing, making soup, smoking and roasting nuts. The way the wok has been designed lends its use to pretty much any type of cooking that needs to be done, not just frying.

Get Better Flavors With the Wok

When you’re cooking with the wok, you’re bound to get better flavors out of your food. The wok is designed to cook food faster, as we already discussed. When you cook the foods faster it seals in the flavor and doesn’t dry out the food. No one likes tough, over-cooked meat and limp veggies. Use a wok and eliminate those problems for good. Another reason that

Another reason that you get better flavors when using a wok is that of the shape of the design allows for better mixing of the ingredients. When you use a frying pan you’re very limited in your mixing abilities because of the low sides. When you use a wok you have much higher sides to work with, and therefore an easier time mixing the food as you cook it, leading to better flavor overall. Certainly, the frying pan has its place in your kitchen, but when it comes to cooking dinner, I reach for my wok every time.

DealDash Feeds Wild Birds

DealDash

Feeding wild birds is a very nice hobby. It’s fun and helpful. Let DealDash show you how.

Wild birds are everywhere, in every state, and in every country. No matter where you live you’re going to have a population of wild birds. Feeding the wild birds in your area is a good pastime for you, but even better for the birds! The birds in your area will flock to your yard once they realize that they’ll be able to get a free meal. And with that, you’ll have a super opportunity to see some gorgeous birds in their own habitat. Read on for more information on feeding wild birds.

Decide What to Feed the Birds

Not all wild birds like to eat the same things. If you’d like to be the birds best friend, then you’ll want to figure out what wild birds you’re most likely to run into in your neighborhood and find out what they like to eat. Most birds do enjoy the prepared bag of “wild bird seed” mix that you can find in your local store, so if you can’t figure out what the favorite meal of your local birds is, then just get that. It will be eaten – wild birds aren’t the pickiest eaters around.

If you’d prefer to give a variety of food, then keep in mind that birds enjoy things other than bird seed. Some birds enjoy fruits such as apples, bananas, oranges, raisins, grapefruit, and pears.

Don’t Forget the water

Different wild birds might enjoy different types of food, but one of the things that all of them have in common is that they also need water. Water is best given in a bird bath. The bird bath has a multitude of purposes. First, the birds can drink out of it. Secondly, the birds can take a bath and clean their feathers while they are drinking and cool themselves off. And lastly, bird baths look terrific in the yard as a piece of decoration as well as helping the birds.

Choose Your Feeder

Once you’ve figured out what kinds of birds you’re most likely to attract and what to feed them, then you’re going to need a feeder. There are many, many different types of bird feeders on the market. There are tube feeders to put seeds in, there are nectar feeders if you are aiming to feed hummingbirds, and there are suet cages if you’re looking to feed larger birds who enjoy eating suet. It’s up to you what kinds of birds you’re interested in attracting, just be sure that you do your research and get the correct food and feeder to use.

DealDash Helps You Make a Good Impression

DealDash

They say you never get a second chance to make a first impression. Let DealDash help you make a great first impression.

Everyone needs to make a good first impression sometimes. Perhaps you’re on your way to a job interview, or maybe even a first date. Perhaps you’re further along and are planning on meeting your boyfriend or girlfriend’s parents. No matter what the situation, it’s always best to put your best first impression to the forefront and let your personality shine. Next up are some tips and tricks from DealDash to help you do just that.

Dress the Part

Firstly, it doesn’t matter which first impression situation that we are talking about, it’s always important to arrive clean and well-dressed. That doesn’t mean a ball gown or tuxedo, of course, but something neat, clean, and presentable.

Thus, in the case of a job interview, it’s said that the optimal way to dress for your interview is “one step above” what you would normally be wearing if you got the job. So, if the job calls for “business casual” such as a polo shirt and khaki pants, then you would want to wear a shirt and tie with a jacket. Of course, your results might vary, but it’s always wise to err on the side of more nicely dressed.

Put Yourself in Their Shoes

Next, making a good first impression is all about putting yourself in the other person’s shoes – how would you like to be treated if you were them. Thus, if you are meeting a serious boyfriend or girlfriend’s family for the first time at their home you might want to bring them a small gift such as a bottle of wine or some flowers. It will make them feel good and have a better opinion of you since you were putting yourself in their shoes and putting a lot of thought into the evening.

Don’t Skimp on Sleep

Finally, no matter what the situation calls for in making a good first impression, you need to be well-rested. Don’t skip the sleep if you have an important day the next day and plan on meeting new people. You’ll be on your “A” game if you get enough sleep and are well-rested. You’ll be more mentally alert and be able to think on your feet and remember things better as well. There’s no downside to getting enough rest.

DealDash Cooks: Spaghetti Squash

dealdash

So many people these days are eating low carb or keto. This spaghetti squash recipe from DealDash might help.

Low carb and keto diets are all the rage these days. However, since most people are very fond of eating pasta, it can be difficult to sustain. If you’re a pasta lover and would like to try to eat a lower carb diet, why not try spaghetti squash? It’s nutritious, delicious and fun to make. Read on for more information about spaghetti squash, from DealDash.

What IS spaghetti squash?

Spaghetti squash is, like it sounds, a member of the squash family.  When you cook this squash its flesh falls away from its fruit in strands that look a lot like spaghetti, hence the name, spaghetti squash. It’s said that we “eat with our eyes” first, so since this squash looks like spaghetti it’s easier for your brain to try and compare it to actual pasta.

Spaghetti squash can be prepared in many different ways that include boiling, baking, and roasting. You can treat it just like regular spaghetti and put red sauce and parmesan cheese on top, or you can serve it simply with salt and pepper or butter or melted cheese.

Spaghetti squash is quite versatile, and that’s what makes it a favorite among many people. Please keep in mind, though, if you are trying to eat a low carb or keto diet to watch what you put on top of the spaghetti squash. Many pasta sauces have added sugar and lots of carbs. If you’d like a sauce you can make your own quite easily with a can of crushed tomatoes, onions, and some seasonings.

Baked Spaghetti Squash

Making spaghetti squash is easy, and one of the most popular ways to prepare it is to bake it. Here is a simple recipe for delicious baked spaghetti squash for your family to enjoy.

Ingredients:

  • Spaghetti squash, cut in half
  • 1 Jar pasta sauce (or 3 Cups homemade sauce)
  • 1 Tbs Italian seasoning
  • 4 Ounces Mozzarella cheese

Directions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees
  2. Place both halves of spaghetti squash on a baking sheet, flesh side down
  3. Add 1/4 inch water to the baking sheet
  4. Bake squash for 40 minutes (or until tender) remove the squash from the oven
  5. Using a fork as a tiny rake, rake the squash’s flesh from the skin into strands
  6. Put all of the strands back into the squash flesh
  7. Add the sauce to the top of the squash strands, then the cheese and seasonings
  8. Put the squash back into the oven for another 3-5 minutes, til the cheese bubbles
  9. Enjoy!

DealDash Treats Chicken Pox Naturally

DealDash

Chicken pox has always been a rite of passage of childhood. Let DealDash help you treat the itching, naturally.

Getting chicken pox is more and more rare these days since there is a vaccination on the market. However, the vaccination is not always 100% effective, and some kids end up getting a mild case. No matter how mild the case is, though, the itching can be almost unbearable. Here are some tips and hints to ease the itching without a lot of chemicals.

Treat Chicken Pox With Oatmeal

Oatmeal has been used practically forever to soothe and as a home remedy for itchy skin, rashes, and chicken pox. Oatmeal can moisturize skin and also as an emollient. Over time, this can improve dry skin.

How Do I Use the Oatmeal?

The first thing you’ll need to do is go buy the oats. These typically come in a tub, and say “whole rolled oats.” Don’t get the instant ones. After you have purchased the oats, it’s time to use them.

You can take a bath with the oatmeal. Simply take an old pair of pantyhose, footed tights, or a cheesecloth, and make yourself a bag of oats that you can soak in the tub with the chicken pox sufferer. Make sure that the water is warm, but not hot. Place the child into the water with the bag of oats and water and let them soak for around 20 minutes. You can do this as often as twice per day if you find it helpful.

Try Honey to Soothe the Pox

Honey has natural antibacterial properties – this is why honey will never actually go bad, it just crystallizes. It’s these antibacterial properties and also the sugar in the honey that will help to reduce the itchiness your of the chicken pox, and it will help heal the skin as well. You can place honey on a q-tip and apply to the chicken pox spots up to three times per day.

Baking Soda Fixes Everything

If you would like to try a different bath than the oatmeal one, try a baking soda bath instead. Did you know that baking soda is a natural acid neutralizer? If you’re not familiar with this, it means that it can help to soothe the chicken pox sufferer’s itchy skin. It does this by restoring the natural pH of your the person’s skin. Baking soda is practically a miracle product, this is just one of the miracle uses.

Hurt Someone’s Feelings? Make Amends, DealDash

DealDash

Making amends when you hurt someone’s feelings is very important. Let DealDash help guide you through the process.

Accidentally hurting someone’s feelings is, unfortunately, just a part of life. However, how you deal with these accidents can predict if you will be able to keep your relationship with them or have to move on. Hopefully, with a little help from DealDash, you will be able to repair all of your relationships when you accidentally offend or hurt someone’s feelings. Read on for more information.

What Did You Do?

Before you can make amends for whatever it was that you’ve done, you need to take a close look at what you said or did. Hurting someone’s feelings accidentally can be a very embarrassing feeling, which can lead to putting off apologizing. Trust me, it will just get harder the longer you wait to apologize, so it’s best to get it out of the way. After you’ve figured out exactly what it was that you said or did, then it’s time to figure out how to make it right. Sometimes saying sorry just isn’t enough.

How Does the Other Person Feel?

If you’re not exactly sure how to apologize, then just try to put yourself in the other person’s shoes. Try to think like they might think, and feel what they might feel. If you try to look at things from the other person’s point of view it might become easier to figure out exactly what you need to say or do to make things better between you.

Keep Things Simple

There’s no need to over-complicate things. If you’ve wronged someone, then it’s time to apologize. Depending on what exactly it was that you’ve done to elicit their hurt feelings, your apology might need to be accompanied by some actions. If you are able to put yourself in the other person’s shoes, then you’ll know what you have to do! Have a serious face-to-face conversation where you admit what you did wrong, and have a plan to fix it. Make sure that the apology is completely sincere and heartfelt.

If the person isn’t ready to forgive you, please take the news gracefully. In time they might be ready to forgive, and if you take their rejection gracefully, they will remember that in the future. Good luck, you can do it, I believe in you.

DealDash Helps You Reduce Blood Sugar

DealDash

Reducing your blood sugar is good for your health, especially if you are diabetic or pre-diabetic. Here are some tips from DealDash to consider…

Firstly, if you suspect that you might have diabetes, please get yourself to the doctor right away. It is possible to reverse its effects if it is caught in time, so please don’t delay. Next, if you have already been to the doctor and just need some tips on reducing your blood sugar, then this is the article that you need to read. Let DealDash give you some ideas to reduce your blood sugar.

Cut the Carbs

Sadly, if you need to reduce your blood sugar you’re going to need to reduce your carb intake as well. Carbohydrates, which include such delicious things such as rice, pasta, and bread, break down into sugar after you eat them. Eating too many foods with lots of carbs in them increases blood sugar levels just like eating too much sugar does.

Of course, there are many products that are on the market that are advertised as being “low carb.” However, you need to make sure that you read the nutrition labels, because “low carb” just means less carbs than the original product. So if the original food has 30 carbs per serving, the “low carb” one might have 20 carbs per serving.

Keep Serving Sizes in Check

If you’re a pro at reading nutritional labels, great! In addition to choosing foods with lower carbs and sugars, it’s important to pay attention to serving sizes as well. Multiple servings in one sitting equal more sugar and carbs.

For example, the almonds that I am snacking on right now are truly a low carb and low sugar food. These particular ones that I am eating have 1 gram of sugar and 6 grams of carbs for a serving of 23 almonds. 23 almonds is definitely enough to keep the hunger at bay, but it’s important to count them out and put them aside. If you are snacking directly out of the container it’s very easy to eat a much larger serving, and with that increase your sugar and carbs.

Move Your Body

Finally, exercise is also important when attempting to reduce your blood sugar. Exercise is so good for you, especially when you do it regularly – it lowers both your blood pressure and cholesterol. Exercise burns fat and helps you lose weight, which also helps control blood sugar and diabetes. Seriously, there is no downside to exercising!

DealDash Recipe: Carrot Cake Pops, Yum!

DealDash

I love carrot cake, do you? Sometimes making a whole cake is just too much, though, why not make carrot cake pops with DealDash?

Cake pops became very popular a few years ago when people realized that they could still eat cake even though they were watching their calories. A person would typically only eat 2-3 cake pops per sitting, which is approximately half of a regular serving of cake. Cake pops can be satisfying even though they are smaller than a regular serving of cake. Not only that, they are the perfect size for children, and kids love them because they are so small and cute.

Carrot Cake

Carrot cake is one of those things you either love it or hate it – there are few opinions in the middle! One of the great things about carrot cake is you can customize it to your tastes. Some people like it with nuts, raisins, cranberries, or frosting. You can make your carrot cake with all, some, or none of those extra ingredients and it will still taste great. When you put the cuteness of cake pops with the delicious flavor of carrot cake amazing things happen. Here are directions on how to make carrot cake pops, from DealDash.

Making the Cake

The first thing that you need to do is bake the loaf of carrot cake. You don’t need any frosting at this point in time.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • cup vegetable oil
  • eggs
  • cups all-purpose flour
  • teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • teaspoon baking soda
  • teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • cups shredded carrots

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 350°F
  2. Grease bottom and sides of a 13×9-inch pan
  3. In a large bowl, beat granulated sugar, oil, and eggs with electric mixer on low speed about 30 seconds or so.
  4. Add flour, cinnamon, baking soda, 1 teaspoon vanilla, and salt
  5. Beat on low speed 1 minute. Stir in carrots.
  6. Pour into pan
  7. Bake for 40 minutes
  8. Assemble these additional ingredients for the next step:
  •  ½ cup cream cheese icing
  • 1 bag (14 ounces) white or orange chocolate melts
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts, toasted (these are optional)

Turn the Cake Into Cake Pops

  1. Before the cake has cooled down, slice it into slices with a damp knife
  2. When the cake pieces have cooled enough to handle, use your hands to crumble the cake in a large mixing bowl. Be sure to crumble thoroughly, we don’t want big chunks.
  3. Add 1/4 cup of icing into the bowl of cake crumbles. Use a wooden spoon to completely incorporate the carrot cake crumbs and cream cheese icing together until you achieve a consistency of dough. You may add more of the icing if you need it. You’re going for the consistency of playdough.
  4. Stick your bowl of dough mixture in the fridge to cool off for an hour or more.
  5. Take a Tablespoon and scoop out the dough into little piles onto waxed paper.
  6. Roll your dough piles into spheres.
  7. Stick them back in the fridge to chill for at least an hour.
  8. Melt your chocolate and dip each sphere with a toothpick.
  9. Now you can add the chopped nuts if you like, or sprinkles, etc.
  10. Stick them back into the fridge to chill.
  11. Insert sticks if you want them to be actual “pops”.

DealDash’s Unusual Uses for Baking Soda

DealDash

Baking soda is inexpensive and extremely versatile. Here are some interesting uses from DealDash.

Baking soda is the household name for sodium bicarbonate. Sodium bicarbonate a processed natural salt; it was originally made as a leavening agent for baking. However, there are so many useful tasks for baking soda that it’s hard to imagine using it for just baking! In fact, I have rarely used baking soda in baking, but rather numerous uses around the house. Read on for some handy tips and tricks to using baking soda from DealDash.

Dry Dog Shampoo

If your dog is getting a little smelly but hates taking a bath, baking soda could be the tool you need for doggie to succeed. Since baking soda is completely safe and non-toxic it makes a great dry dog shampoo. All you have to do is sprinkle the baking soda on your dog, rub it in thoroughly, and then brush it out.

  • Pro Tip 1 – Do this outside, it can be messy
  • Pro Tip 2 – Put the baking soda in an old container that was meant for sprinkling dry substances, such as an old cleaned out parmesan cheese container or even a powdered sugar container.

Get the Smells Out of Books

Do you have any old books that are musty or smokey smelling? No worries, DealDash is here with a solution for you. Try baking soda! Just sprinkle baking soda on the pages, stick it in a bag, and put it in the freezer. A few days later take it outside and open it up. Shake out the book, and viola! No more smell.

Use as a Mouthwash or Toothpaste

Use can use baking soda as a toothpaste by simply wetting your brush, dipping it in the baking soda, and then brushing your teeth. If you prefer the minty freshness of actual toothpaste, then you can put your normal toothpaste on and then just sprinkle a little bit of baking soda on the top for a toothpaste booster.

Low on mouthwash? No problem. Baking soda is your answer. Simply take a small glass of water and mix in 1 teaspoon of baking soda. Use like a regular mouthwash. It neutralizes odors and will make your mouth feel fresh.

Clean Your Hairbrushes and Combs

Let’s face it, combs and especially hairbrushes can get dirty over time. You can clean them easily with baking soda, it will naturally remove oils, build up, and residue. Just put a teaspoon of baking soda into a cup, and stick your hairbrush or comb in. Let it soak for a bit, and then rinse off and dry. Presto, sparkling clean!

DealDash Helps Whiten Your Clothing

DealDash

Having the whitest whites that you can manage is a point of pride in the laundry world. Here are some tips and suggestions from DealDash to get you started.

Are your white clothing the whitest that they can be? No? Do your white clothing items have some yellow marks, stains, or are they just plain old dingy? Well, no problem. DealDash is here to help you whiten and brighten your white clothing. Read on for more information.

Bleach for the All-White Items

This one is fairly obvious, everyone knows about bleach! However, some people don’t realize that it osn’t recommended not to use bleach on items that have white as well as other colors. So with that said, if you have a patterned or multi-colored item you want to brighten up, use a method instead of chlorine bleach.

Peroxide

Surprisingly, Hydrogen Peroxide will eliminate a lot of stains, including blood as long as you apply it soon enough. You can use peroxide on clothing, table cloths, and even shoes. Simply rinse off as much of the stain as you can, and then liberally apply the peroxide. Personally, I put my peroxide in a spray bottle and spray any stains before I toss them in the hamper or washing machine. Peroxide makes an excellent stain pre-treater.

Dawn Dish Detergent

My favorite dish detergent is Dawn, of course, and it can be used for so many things. However, the best use of Dawn dish detergent stain-wise is on greasy stains. If I am cooking and I get any greasy stains on my clothing I immediately put some Dawn on a paper towl and blot it into the grease stain. After that I just leave it in as a pre-treatment.

Dawn is great to clean just about anything! Just remember, though, that it foams up really well, so don’t put too much on at one time or you will get way too much foam action going on in your washing machine. If you feel like you need a lot for the stain, just be sure that you rinse it out before you put it in the washing machine.

DealDash Uses Fragrance Oils at Home

DealDash

Fragrance oils can help keep your house smelling delightful. Here are some tips and tricks on how to use them, from DealDash.

Fragrance oils are, quite simply, oils with scent added. They are not the same as essential oils, which can have other useful benefits such as calming, stress relief, or energizing. However, some essential oils, such as lavender or lemon can be used as a fragrance oil as well. These yummy-smelling oils can be used in crafting, home scenting, perfumes and anytime you want to create a pleasant smelling environment. Read on for more details from DealDash.

Make a Scented Spray

This is one of the easiest ways to use fragrance oils. All you have to do is add a few drops of fragrance oils to a plastic spray bottle, then fill with water. Shake the bottle well to mix the oil into the water. You can then spray a few times into the air to spread the scent into any room. You can also spray this onto smelly carpets or furniture. Please be sure to test a hidden spot to make sure that it doesn’t stain.

Make Your Carpet Smell Great

If you’d like to make your very own carpet powder it’s easy! Just take a box of baking soda and mix in 5-10 drops of fragrance oil, depending on how strong you want the carpet powder to smell.  Mix in the oil, and set aside for 12-24 hours. After this time has passed, you can sprinkle this mixture onto your carpet. Shake sparingly across the carpet. Allow the mixture to sit in the carpet fibers for 30-60 minutes, then vacuum it up. Enjoy the fresh scent of your house! As with the spray, please test it on a tiny hidden area of your carpet to make sure that it doesn’t stain.

Use in a Tart Warmer or Oil Diffuser

You can use fragrance oils in both tart warmers and oil diffusers. With the tart warmer, you can either add the fragrance oil directly to the wax that you’re melting or add a little water and then the oil. It’s your choice!

The oil diffuser is very simple and easy to use. With most oil diffusers you fill them up to the line with water and then add in however many drops of oil that you would like to use. Remember, these oils have a strong scent, don’t over-do it!

DealDash Crafts: Paint a T-Shirt

DealDash

June is the season for crafting a painted t-shirt. Graduation and Father’s Day are both excellent occasions. Here are some ideas and tips from DealDash.

There are lots of reasons that you might want to custom paint your own t-shirt, graduation and Father’s Day are only two examples. T-shirt painting is a great way to turn a plain t-shirt into something creative and unique. There are a few different ways of painting t-shirts, from free-handing to using stencils to spray painting! Here are some suggestions.

Prepare Your Canvas and Work Area

After buying your plain shirt be sure to wash it. This will remove any potential starch or stiffener that might prevent the paint from sticking properly. After your shirt has been prepared then gather up your materials. Depending on which type of painting method you’re going to use you will need different materials. However, for all of them it would be wise to spread out newspaper on your working surface and have water and paper towels handy. You’ll also want to have a stencil or a good idea of what you want to paint on your shirt.

Let’s Paint!

  • First, you’ll want to put something inside the t-shirt such as another sheet of newspaper, a magazine, or a piece of cardboard. This will prevent the paint from bleeding onto the back side of the shirt.
  • Take your stencil and use a Sharpie to trace the design onto the t-shirt. If you’d rather skip the stencil and just draw your outline on the shirt, that’s fine as well.
  • Using fabric paint and a paintbrush color in your design. If you would like your t-shirt to have more depth and creativity, then do multiple layers of paint, starting with the background. Let it dry then paint the foreground.
  • Don’t remove the newspaper or cardboard inside the shirt until the paint is completely dry. Otherwise, it will bleed onto the backside of the shirt.
  • When you wash your shirt be sure to turn it inside out first and use the gentle cycle. After washing you should either lay it flat to dry or hang it up to dry. Either is fine.
  • If you’re not that wonderful with a paintbrush, then you can try using the fabric paint that are in little squeeze bottles. You may have more luck because they can be a little easier to control than a paint brush.

DealDash Helps You be More Pleasant

DealDash

Studies show that people who are more pleasant to be around are also healthier and happier. Here are some tips from DealDash to improve your pleasant quotient.

Are you the cheerful person that everyone wants to be around? If not, why not?! No matter what’s going on in your life, being pleasant to be around just takes a few moments of your time and is completely free. One of the bonuses about being a pleasant person is that people tend to respond more positively to pleasant people and therefore will make your day brighter as well.

Hold the Positive, Let Go of the Negative

I know that everyone has a bad day here and there, and no one can be pleasant all of the time. However, there’s no reason to let every little thing in your day that doesn’t go right get you down. If you let all of the small things that go wrong get you down on a daily basis, then you’re definitely not going to be as pleasant as you can be. Try to turn some of those negatives into positives. For example, most people dislike the rain, especially if they have to walk in it. However, the rain helps the grass and flowers grow, helps replenish our lakes and ponds, and is good for the environment in general. Try to think on the positive side of life.

Take Delight in the Little Things

Tons of small but nice things happen every day. Maybe someone let you go ahead of them in line at the supermarket, maybe you found a dollar on the ground, or maybe your child brought home a 100 on a test. All of those are small things, but wonderful things that you should take delight in and celebrate with a smile. If you spend lots of time being happy with the small good things that happen during the day you’ll have less time to dwell on any negative things that happen.

Spread the Happiness Around

If you’re having a great day, why not pass that feeling on to others around you? Give someone a compliment, pay for someone else’s coffee, call your mom just to say hi. All of those things would take less than 5 minutes, and under $5, so why not?! Make someone else happy, and you will feel happiness in return. It comes full-circle, and everyone will be happier for it.

Don’t Always Say What You’re Thinking

Have you ever heard someone say “If you don’t have something nice to say then don’t say anything at all?” Well, that’s smart advice if you want to be known as the most pleasant person around. Before you say something that might be taken as rude, then think about it a bit before you say it. If it’s not a helpful, and it might hurt someone’s feelings, then why say it? Bite your tongue, keep it to yourself, and move on. Life is short, try to keep all of your interactions pleasant.

DealDash Helps Lower Back Pain

DealDash

Lower back pain is a huge problem for a large part of the population. Here are some tips and tricks from DealDash.

Are you one of the hundreds of thousands of Americans with pain in your lower back? Millions of people worldwide suffer from pain in their lower back, but that doesn’t mean that you have to just accept the pain in your life. No matter if it’s from an injury, illness, or just plain old-fashioned aging, lower back pain can be soothed with the right treatment. Here are some tips and tricks from DealDash to help you.

Diagnose the Problem

Before you figure out a treatment plan for your back pain, you need to figure out why your back is in pain. There are many reasons why you might be having lower back pain such as poor posture, an accident or injury, aging, weight gain, arthritis, or something else. The best thing for you to do is to go see your doctor so they can diagnose your problem, and give you some pointers for at-home treatment. If your problem is more serious they might suggest physical therapy or even surgery.

Work on Your Posture

If you have a serious back injury correcting your posture won’t fix it, but if your particular back pain originates from bad posture, then this could completely take away your lower back pain. The lower back is particularly susceptible to pain caused by bad posture. This is because your lower back supports a large portion of your weight. According to WebMD, here is the key to having good posture:

From the side: Your earlobe, the tip of your shoulder, your hip, your knee, and your ankle should make a straight line, separating the front of your body from the back.

From the front: Your shoulders and hips should be level, your kneecaps facing ahead, your ankles straight, head not tilted.

Check yourself throughout the day and adjust. (Your mom was also right about practice makes perfect.)

Practice “standing tall” and breathing from your diaphragm.  Not only is this good for body is does wonders for appearance.

Get Instant Pain Relief

If you need some instant pain relief, luckily there are plenty of over-the-counter medications that can make your lower back pain feel much better. Take over-the-counter ibuprofen as directed by the package. Ibuprofen will help ease any inflammation and help control the pain on a chemical level. Aspirin will make your back feel better quickly. Please be sure to keep your medications out of the hands of children, aspirin is especially dangerous for children.

Let’s Have a DealDash Spa Slumber Party

DealDash Spa

School is almost over, and your kids are going to be bored. Why not plan a spa slumber party with DealDash?

A spa slumber party can be fun for kids of all ages, from little kids up to grannies! However, it’s especially well-received by girls in Elementary and Middle school.  With a little preparation and some creativity, your spa slumber party will be a hit with your daughter or granddaughter and her little friends! Here are some tips, tricks, hints, and ideas from DealDash to make your party a success.

Make Some Decisions

There are many decisions that you’ll need to make before you have your spa slumber party, such as how many people you’re going to invite, what types of spa activities that you want to have, and what refreshments you’ll need. Once you’ve decided these things, the planning will go much more smoothly.

Who Will You Invite?

After you’ve decided who to invite, then you’ll need to make a guest list. If this is a party for teens or adults, then 6-8 guests is probably a good number, but the younger the guests, the less you should invite. For example, if this party is going to be for Kindergarteners, I would only invite 4 or so guests.

Once you have your guest list decided, then you can start inviting people. You can make a Facebook invitation, do e-vites, or even buy (or make) some paper invitations to send in the mail. It’s completely up to you. If you go the paper invitations route, be sure to put your email address on there as well as your phone number so people have the option to RSVP by either email or text.

Collect Your Supplies

After deciding what type of spa activities that you’re going to have at your party, then you can start collecting the supplies that you’ll need to make the night a success. Here are some examples of things that you might want to collect for your spa party:

  • Nail polishes in different colors
  • Nail polish remover
  • Q-tips
  • Cotton rounds
  • Things to make face masks such as eggs, oatmeal, avocado, honey
  • Towels
  • Make-up such as eye shadow, blush, eyeliner
  • Make-up remover wipes
  • Lotions
  • Facial scrubs
  • If you’re really adventurous – a home waxing kit!

Buy Snacks

You will most likely order take-out or pizza for dinner, but be sure that you have snacks, bottled water, and soda on hand. You can make Chex Mix, get pretzels and hummus dip, a mixed veggie plate, and some bags of microwave popcorn. This might be a spa slumber party, but when there’s a party involved, you’re always going to need snacks!
