Fun Halloween Kid’s Activities from DealDash

Halloween is coming up soon and if you have kids or grandkids you’ll want to do a fun activity. Here are some ideas from DealDash for fun Halloween activities your kids will love.

There are many fun youngsters’ activities readily available throughout the Halloween season. You can capitalize on those tasks to maintain their attention and keep them active. When Halloween night is quickly coming, they are most likely to be thrilled and excited. That is why prep work overall is crucial to show them a good time. Here are some tips and ideas to make your kids have a great Halloween.

Arts and Crafts

Arts and crafts are fun to do around Halloween time. You can do this with the children to make it satisfying and keep them busy. Just a quick search online can help you find so many different simple and easy Halloween crafts to do with your kids. Just type in their age and “Halloween crafts” into a search engine and you will get hundreds of hits. My daughter, who is now 7, loves anything to do with coloring and cutting out designs. You could make a fun banner that spells out “Happy Halloween” with spooky ghost and bat designs. No matter what craft you pick, your kids will have a great time with you creating some Halloween memories.

Don’t Forget the Pumpkins

Pumpkins. This is one of the most favored Halloween items for youngsters. Children can do the pumpkin carving to produce Jack O’ Lanterns. However, this requires a great deal of guidance. You will need to monitor them closely if they are using any sort of sharp tools. Pumpkins can additionally be decorated using other less dangerous tools like painting or using stickers to improve and embellish them. If your kids aren’t ready to decorate a real pumpkin they could, instead, make pumpkins with clay or paper plates.

Special Halloween Foods

Another fun thing the youngsters can make is Halloween food. They will certainly take pleasure in making them and also they will certainly likewise appreciate consuming them. You can, again, find many things to help you with this online by typing “Halloween recipes” into your favorite search engine. You will end up with results such as how to make candy apples and caramel popcorn balls. A very creative idea my friend did once was to make a pizza at home and when it came out of the oven she put on little ghosts that she had carved out of cheese. It was adorable and her kids loved it.

Halloween Costumes

No one says that a child’s Halloween outfit has to be bought at the store! Educate the kids that they do not require to invest much for the outfits, they can make them at home as many children did back in the “good old days”. First, they will need to discover what they would love to be, then help them begin working with their very own outfits in your home. They will certainly be so pleased with sprucing up for Halloween given that they prepared the outfit themselves.

Party with DealDash

Of course, if you are planning on throwing a Halloween party for your kids you will want to get the supplies and decorations from DealDash. DealDash offers a variety of party supplies as well as gift cards to the major big box stores where you can buy decorations. Remember, if you bid on a gift card auction (or any other auction) and you don’t win, you can purchase the gift card in a BIN (Buy It Now) and receive all of the bids back that you spent on the auction. It’s a great deal!

DealDash’s Fun Fall Essentials

Image result for fall

Fall is definitely my favorite season, and there are certain things that are especially great in fall. Here are some fall essentials that you should be without!

There’s a crisp fall smell in the air, a combination of fireplace smoke, the last lawn mowing of the year, and apple cider donuts. I love fall! Living in New England I also get the special treat of seeing the beautiful autumn leaves change color, but the things on this fall essentials list can be enjoyed by most anyone. No, I’m not talking about yard waste bags and rakes! These are fun fall essentials.

  • Legging and hoodies. Leggings and hoodies are the perfect way to stretch out the use of your dresses, and hoodies are perfect over a t-shirt when you aren’t sure if the day is going to warm up later on. Leggings and hoodies are a great way to say hello to the autumn!
  • Pumpkin spice. I’m not ashamed, I love pumpkin spice everything, from muffins and coffee to candles and car air fresheners. If it’s pumpkin spice, it’s for me! Pumpkin spice coffee and lattes can really get you in a great mood for the cooler weather, and pumpkin spice candles can make your living room seem warm and inviting when you come in from the outdoors.
  • Fall decorations. There are so many great decorations that you can use in the fall, in October we have Halloween decorations, of course. And in November you can use harvest, leaves in baskets, Thanksgiving, and even put up your Christmas decorations Thanksgiving weekend! What better way to say Goodbye to fall than putting up the Christmas tree?
  • Apple picking. Apples are abundant at this time of year, and picking them is a fun activity for just about anyone.
  • Pies. Fall is the time to use those freshly picked apples and make pies. Fall pies aren’t just about apples, though. Pumpkin, blueberry, and strawberry rhubarb pies are wonderful fall treats as well.

I hope that you enjoyed my list of fun fall essentials. As the weather is getting cooler in the evening, it’s the perfect time to stay in and use DealDash to shop. This is the perfect time to make pumpkin bread. Everything this month is pumpkin spice, from coffee to candles – why not bread? Pumpkin bread is very versatile, you can use it as an accompaniment to your soup at lunch, or you can spread a little vanilla frosting on it and it makes a wonderful dessert. Speaking of dessert, you can make this pumpkin bread in a muffin or cupcake tin and frost and decorate them as well.

  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves

DealDash Roasts Pumpkin Seeds

Image result for pumpkin seeds

Since you are probably carving your pumpkins around this time, I figured it was time for a roasted pumpkin seed recipe.

Roasted pumpkin seeds are absolutely delicious, a healthy snack, and fun to make. What’s not to love? You can roast your pumpkin seeds with a basic recipe like the one below, or you can always get creative and add ingredients such as cinnamon and sugar, cayenne pepper, oil and vinegar, cocoa…The varieties are  practically endless! Basically, any kind of seasoning that you might add to chips would taste great on roasted pumpkin seeds. Now on to the recipe…

  • 1.5 Cups raw pumpkin seeds, cleaned and dried
  • 2 Tbs melted butter
  • 1/8 tsp salt

  1. Preheat your oven to 300 degrees F
  2. Toss seeds in a bowl with the melted butter and salt.
  3. Spread the seeds in a single layer on a baking sheet and bake for about 45 minutes or until golden brown; stir occasionally.

See, isn’t that simple?? These seeds make such a great base to add extra seasonings and flavors. You can also do a lot with these seeds after they have been roasted, such as:

  • Add the seeds as a topping for a salad instead of croutons
  • Add the seeds in a home-made trail mix with granola and dried fruit
  • Put them in tiny bags for your kid’s snack at school
  • Bring them with you when you’re out to avoid buying costly and fattening snacks
  • Bake them into cookies or brownies

I am in love with these roasted pumpkin seeds, and I look forward to carving the pumpkins with the kids every year so I can make these yummy roasted pumpkin seeds.

DealDash Crafts: Spooky Lanterns

Image result for homemade halloween decorations

Welcome back to another DealDash Spooky Crafts article, today we will be talking about spooky lantern decorations for outside the home.

Isn’t Halloween fun? Halloween and Christmas are my two favorite holidays for decorating inside and outside the home. Today’s article will include some fun and easy lantern crafts that you can do to decorate the outside of your house to welcome the little trick or treaters that are sure to come knocking in a few weeks.

Trick or Treat Lantern Cans – If you like the look of the lanterns in the above picture, they are super easy and very cheap to make. This is more of an adult’s or teen’s craft, I wouldn’t suggest doing this craft with little ones, unless they are just watching.

  • Clean empty metal cans that have the tops removed. Any size metal can will do.
  • Sharpie marker
  • Awl, hammer
  • Paint & brush
  • Candle or battery-powered candle

  1. Using your sharpie marker draw your message in DOTS on the can. Make the dots approximately 1/2″ apart.
  2. Using the hammer and awl, poke holes in the can on each dot, spelling out your message in holes in the can.
  3. Paint your can, being careful that the paint doesn’t pool in the holes you made. If you need to, you can clean up the paint blocking the holes with a Q-tip. Let dry.
  4. Put candle in the can, light, enjoy the lit up message.

Milky Ghost Lanterns – If you would prefer to do a Halloween craft with your little ones, this one is much more kid-friendly.

  • Clean empty milk jugs
  • Sharpie marker
  • Battery powered LED lights
  • Paint (optional)

  1. If you want to make colored ghosts, then do this optional step first. put a TINY drop of paint inside your milk jug, then follow that with about 1/4 cup of water. Shake up the jug, then leave the top off, and let it dry. This will produce a very thin coat of paint on the inside of the jug. I suggest using lighter colors for this such as yellow, orange, pink, or light green.
  2. Draw on your ghostly faces with the Sharpie onto your milk jug.
  3. Put in your battery-powered lights, and enjoy your lanterns. If you have painted the inside of the jug, be sure that your paint is dry before you put the LED lights in.

DealDash Cheap Halloween Costume Ideas

Image result for lots of halloween costumes

We are 1/4 done with October, so if you haven’t gotten your (or your kid’s) costumes ready yet, now is the time.

There are probably 50 complete ready-made costumes at any of your local box-box stores, and even more bits and pieces to make even more different costumes and variations. If you want something totally original, though, you are going to have to go to the thrift store and get creative, or get together the craft supplies and make it yourself. There are plenty of costumes that you can make with a minimum of crafting skill, especially if you combine finds from the thrift store together with makeup and accessories from the Halloween store. Let’s see what we can think of…

  • Zombie – This one is really easy. Get any outfit from the thrift store or from your own closet (that you don’t mind destroying) and go to town ripping, slicing, and dousing with fake blood from the store. Then mix yourself up some whitish-bluish makeup, apply to face, add bite marks with makeup, and you’re officially undead.
  • Cheerleader – If you have an eye for spotting things at the thrift store, try to find a cheerleader uniform. If that fails, just get a short pleated skirt, tank top, and knee socks. If you have a Marshall’s near you they often have little girl’s cheerleader outfits for the local college teams. I just bought my daughter a Boston College cheerleader uniform from Marshall’s for $14.99, and it’s surprisingly good quality, made by Under Armour.
  • Doctor, nurse, or dentist – Just get scrubs from the thrift store or Wal*Mart and add the appropriate accessories.
  • Cowgirl or cowboy – Get a plaid shirt, jeans, boots, and a cowboy at from the thrift store. Add in a cardboard cutout of a horse, or a stuffed horse, and you’re ready to rope some cattle.
  • Football, basketball, baseball, or hockey player – Uniform shirts from these sports are easy to get from the thrift store. Choose your favorite and add accessories.

I hope that this DealDash Reviewed Blog article has given you some ideas of some fun costumes that you can scrounge up quickly, easily, and cheaply from your local thrift store and big box stores. DealDash has gift cards of all kinds such as Marshall’s, Target, K-mart, Sears, and more. Visit DealDash at this link here to choose a gift card. DealDash Spooky Crafts: Jar Lights

Image result for halloween mason jar lights

Making jack-o-lanterns out of real pumpkins is fun, but if you’re not up for a big pumpkin guts mess this year try these spooky mason jar lights instead.

Let’s face it, carving pumpkins is a huge mess. It’s fun, and I would never deprive my children of this great childhood activity, but since both of my bigger kids are at school this year they are actually carving pumpkins on a field trip – I feel like I can skip it, since the baby doesn’t know what he’s missing! However, since I do like to keep things festive for the holidays, I thought that this spooky mason jar craft project was a happy medium between “huge mess” and “not decorating”. This craft is fun, easy, and only needs a few materials to make a very adorably spooky decoration.

  • Mason Jar
  • String of fairy lights
  • Tissue paper (any color, but if you want to make “pumpkins” use orange)
  • Construction paper (black)
  • Paint (optional)
  • Scissors
  • Mod podge (or watered down elmer’s glue)
  • paintbrush

  1. Cut out your “pumpkin” face, or any other shape that you would like use to decorate the jar.
  2. Using the mod podge or glue, attach the face shapes to the inside of the mason jar.
  3. Using thin strips of tissue paper, attach 1 layer of tissue paper to the inside of the jar using the paintbrush, coat it with the mod modge or glue. Set aside to dry.
  4. Cover the outside of the lid with either paint or a layer of the tissue paper. I find that the paint looks better, but the tissue paper dries more quickly. It’s your choice.
  5. After everything has dried, put your fairy lights inside the jar. Put the battery pack in the bottom of the jar, and put the lights inside on top of the battery pack. You can arrange them in any way you like, but since they will be shining through the tissue paper it doesn’t really make much of a difference how you place them as long as the battery pack is on the bottom.
  6. That’s it! Enjoy your spooky Halloween mason jar.

I hope that you found this to be a fun craft to do by yourself or with your kids or grandkids. DealDash has some great auctions on craft and sewing supplies. Check out the sewing machines and more on DealDash. Click here and visit DealDash to see how much you can save. Good luck and happy bidding, everyone!

Image result for halloween bags

Welcome to DealDash’s Halloween Craft Series. Over the next few weeks I will be posting blog articles of various Halloween-related crafts that you can do with your kids, grandkids, or even by yourself! Today’s craft is handmade treat bags.

Whether you’re going trick or treating with children, or staying home and handing out the candy it’s more fun to have a handmade bag! They are great for storing the candy if you’re the door-opener, or for taking around the neighborhood and ringing door bells. Read on for a couple of different styles of treat bags that are fun to make and cute to look at!

Cereal Box Stencil Bags

Decorate a plain fabric tote with cereal box stencils and kid-friendly sponge painting.

-Fabric tote (any color, but neon orange or green for safety is best!)
-Fabric paint
– sponge (if you can find the sponge on a stick for painting that would be great)
-Cereal box (Any size)
-Exacto knife or box cutter and surface to cut on
-Washi or masking tape

1. Cut the front and back off of your cereal box.
2. Using the above shapes template you can cut & paste the picture, and enlarge it on your computer to print out. Cut out jack-o’-lantern shapes with an exacto knife on a safe cutting surface. You can most likely do this on your garage floor or driveway, put down an extra thick piece of cardboard from a bigger box under your cereal box and cut away!
3. Next, tape your cardboard stencil to the fabric bag and gently dab on the craft paint using your sponge, peel off stencil, let dry for at least an hour. You can make it dry faster by using a hairdryer on a low setting. Don’t use the higher setting because it could move your paint.

Personalized Treat Buckets

These are great buckets to keep the candy in that you will be handing out at the door.

-Large empty ice cream bucket with a handle
-Felt, multiple festive colors is recommended
-Hot glue gun
-Ribbon, 6 yards per bucket
-Foam stamps in fun Halloween shapes such as bats or skulls

1.  Apply the felt to the bucket using the hot glue gun. Cover the entire surface around the outside. Use more than you need to, and cut off the excess.
2. Glue your ribbon to the top and bottom of the bucket so that you cover up the felt edges. It just looks much nicer and more “put together” this way.
3. Tie contrasting colored ribbons on the handle.
4. Stick on the fun foam shapes to decorate your bucket. These foam shapes usually have a sticky back, but if you would like to reinforce your foam shapes, just use a little hot glue from the gun.

DealDash Has Fun in Fall

Image result for fall fun

I love fall! It’s my favorite season. There are so many fun things to do in the fall.

Depending on where you live, fall might still be blisteringly hot like summer weather, or it might be starting to cool down a bit. The cooling down a bit is my favorite part, snuggling up under the blankets, getting the hoodies out of the closet, and drinking pumpkin flavored coffee are all extra bonuses to me. Living in New England we have a few foliage advantages over our Western and Southern neighbors, but “Leafing” isn’t the only thing to do in the wonderful months of September, October, and November.

Around my part of the USA, fall is the time for fairs! I can think of about 6 different fairs off of the top of my head that happen in September and October, from the large State Fair all the way down to the tiny county fairs. I love fairs, big and small. When I was younger I enjoyed the rides, but now that I am older I enjoy the fair food, walking around and people watching, seeing my kids enjoy the petting zoos, and going to the exhibits – It’s amazing, the winner of the “Biggest Pumpkin” contest seems to be bigger every year. When someone says “fall”, I think “fair.”

Another great think about fall is Halloween! I am personally not into super-scary movies or TV shows, but I do love a bit of Halloween fun, and dressing the kids up in costumes is always fun. Last year my husband even got into the spirit and let me dress him up for a Halloween/Birthday party as a bottle of Sriracha Sauce! I also love to see all of the little kids dressed up, it’s very funny to see what kids choose for their costumes sometimes. Of course, with Halloween comes candy, I am going to do my best this year to try and stay away from the chocolate!

Finally, to close out the praise for fall is my favorite holiday – Thanksgiving! I love all of the traditional Thanksgiving food, especially my special homemade mashed potatoes. My in-laws host a great Thanksgiving every year with all of the traditional Thanksgiving food, and some delicious extras such as pork buns, fried rice, and homemade spring rolls, yum yum!

As the nights get colder you will probably be spending more time indoors. The fall is a great time to hone your skills on DealDash. DealDash is open 24/7, 365 days a year. When you find yourself sitting at home drinking your apple cider or pumpkin spice lattes, head on over to DealDash and see how much you can save. Good luck and happy bidding!

DealDash Special Events Halloween Sale

DealDash Special Events Like Halloween Are To Die For

DealDash special events often come on special days like Halloween and Black Friday! No doubt, this is one reason customers come back to shop with DealDash on a regular basis.

Three of my favorite DealDash special events are:

  1. ALL auction wins FREE—DealDash special events make participating in auctions so much fun! With the “free to the winner auctions” customers only pay for the cost of the bids it takes to win it, plus only a one penny transaction fee. I noticed that when customers do not have to pay a closing cost, it usually takes more bids to win the auctions. The reason for this is because customers can bid more because they can afford to bid more since they are not accounting for the final sales price. If, however, I get into the right auction at the right time I can really save a lot of money during this event. It’s a lot of fun too!
  2. 50 percent off auction wins—When DealDash.com offers this event, the winning customer pays only half of the closing cost and DealDash.com pays the rest. For example, if the closing cost is $100 the customer only has to pay $50. Therefore, I can also win some great deals during this event, too. During both the free to the winner event and 50 percent off to the winner, I am sure to calculate this savings into my strategy to determine how many bids to use in the auction.
  3. 3X time as highest bidder—I really like to bid in auctions when DealDash special events offer 3X time as highest bidder because this means I am able to earn THREE times as many free bids! The time as highest bidder meter will fill up three times faster during these DealDash special events!

Today is Halloween so of course the DealDash special events is a FRIGHTENING deal with bids being offered at only 13¢ per bid. This is the Cheapest price DealDash has sold bids for in 2014 and will only last for this one day! Not only that but all auction wins are FREE to the winner and you can collect 3X time as highest bidder – WOW!!
