DealDash Kids: Tips for an Easter Celebration

DealDash

With Easter just a couple short weeks away, now is the time to plan your celebration. Here are some tips to help, from DealDash.

Planning a fun Easter celebration is essential, especially if you have young children. You need to plan a great day for everyone to be able to enjoy this holiday. Here are some ideas for planning a memorable Easter celebration, from DealDash.

The Egg Hunt

The first thing you definitely need to do is to plan an Easter egg hunt. Nothing says “Easter Party” more than an egg hunt. It would be very smart to assign each child participating their own egg color so that everyone will be able to find the same amount of eggs. You also might have to get creative with your Easter egg hunt should the weather not be good.

You can do the eggs one of two ways. You can do the traditional way of dying real eggs. Or, alternately, you can choose to buy plastic eggs and put tiny surprises in them instead. It’s up to you.

Fun with Activities

Another thing that you should do is plan some simple Easter crafts for the kids to do. You will want to plan accordingly for the different ages of kids participating so that everyone will be able to participate. This would be a great way for to kids to make something to remember the celebration. For the youngest kids, age 2-4, just coloring an Easter picture might be enough to keep them occupied. For older kids, though, there are many fun things they could do, such as decorate their own Easter basket.

If the weather is nice the day of your celebration you should take things outside. Have some outdoor games planned for the kids if the weather permits you to enjoy the nice weather. It would be a great way to enjoy the day.

Don’t Forget the Food

You will also want to plan for some fun food for everyone to enjoy. You will likely want to stick with something simple as you will have younger kids enjoying the food you have prepared. Finger food and foods that are simple to eat are great ideas so that everyone will find something that they will enjoy eating. Things such as a fruit plate, veggie sticks with dip, or even pizza would be great for your celebration.

Thanks for Reading

Planning an Easter celebration is a lot simpler than you would think. You just need to be sure you are planning age-appropriate activities for the kids participating to do, along with some delicious foods! You will be all set to enjoy this special holiday.

DealDash Presents 3 Fun Vacations for Families

DealDash

If you’re having a hard time figuring out where to go on a family vacation, no problem. Read this article for suggestions from DealDash.

In life, we are always on the go. Between going to work and dropping off your kids at school, it can be hard to spend time with your family. Once in a while, it is good to take a family vacation. If you have kids they may not always be receptive to going on a vacation. That is why when you are planning a family vacation you have to keep your children in mind. Here are three fun vacation spots for kids, from DealDash.

Winter Haven, Florida

Florida has to be one of the most exciting vacation spots to go to. There are a lot of Florida vacation spots, but few are suitable for kids, other than the ultra-popular (and ultra-packed and expensive) ones. Winter Haven is child-friendly because of their wonderful attraction called Lego Land. Lego Land is a water and theme park. There are rides, roller coasters, and other kid-friendly activities that will keep your kids occupied. Lego Land also has plenty of rides and spots that will keep you cool from the Florida heat. Legoland is a great option for your kids.

Anaheim, California

Anaheim California is a beautiful place to go to for vacation.  The biggest attraction for kids in Anaheim is Disneyland. There are rides for everyone, tasty foods, and you can meet Disney Characters. You can also go to adventure city in Anaheim if you are looking for something smaller.

Anaheim has excellent weather, year-round. If you’re looking for a place that’s just as beautiful in February as it is in June, then check out Anaheim. There are many popular beaches that are close to Anaheim that you might want to check out such as Huntington Beach, Laguna Beach, and Seal Beach. If your kids love to go to the beach, then Anaheim might just be the vacation spot for your family.

Washington, D.C.

Washington D.C. is the perfect vacation spot for kids.  It has plenty of events and attractions that are free. You can go to museums such as the Smithsonian, and you can see historical landmarks. If you want to do a little shopping, Washington D.C. has the best malls with plenty of toy stores. Your kids will enjoy Washington D.C and they will have plenty to explore.

Washington, D.C. is full of education and history, but also full of fun and excitement for kids as well. As a child, my elementary school would always take field trips to Washington, D.C., and my two favorites were the National Zoo and the Air and Space Museum. If you go to Washington, D.C., be sure to check them out!

Thanks for Reading

Choosing a vacation spot for your kids does not have to be hard. These tips will help you choose the right spot, so your kids will have a memorable time. So when you are considering where you would like to go on your next family vacation, be sure to check out some of these ideas from DealDash.

With Valentine’s Day fast approaching you want to do some fun things with your children. There are many fun things that you can do to help celebrate this special holiday with your kids. Here are a few things to help get you started, from DealDash.

Plan Ahead (Like Now!)

You should definitely plan ahead when it comes to Valentine’s Day and your children.  Sit down with them a couple weeks ahead and make valentines for their friends and family. Also, ask them if there is anything special that they want to do when they get home from school that day. By planning ahead you’ll know exactly what needs to get done to have the best possible day when the holiday arrives. Planning ahead for things when you have kids is a must!

Lunchbox Messages

While you may not be able to be with your child all day during Valentine’s Day, you can let them know that you’re thinking about them by leaving a fun message in their lunch box. This is so they can see halfway through the day how much you love them.  While you may think it might embarrass them slightly it will, in reality, make them feel great.

This doesn’t have to be just for Valentine’s Day, either. Leaving a little note of encouragement, love, or even a joke will cheer up your child, even if they are having a bad day.

Make it a Family Event

Have your children help you plan a special meal for Valentine’s evening so that everyone can enjoy it together as a family.  You can do things like have fun with drinks like having raspberry ginger ale, strawberry milk, or cherry kool-aid. All of these special little touches that you can help plan with your child will help to make the meal as special as possible for everyone. Again, plan this ahead so you have time to get everything that is going to assist in making the meal special. Don’t forget some heart-shaped cookies for dessert!

Thanks for Reading

These are just a few of the things that you can do to help celebrate Valentine’s Day all day long.  By going the extra mile to make sure that you are helping your child enjoy this special holiday you’ll be making the day is fun and memorable as possible. DealDash Helps Make Your Resolutions Stick

DealDash

If you plan on making a new year’s resolution this year you need to read this article. Let DealDash help you make your resolution stick.

With the new year approaching soon you are going to want to start thinking about whether or not you are going to make a resolution this year. Many people fail at their New Year’s resolution because they do not take the time to think about what the change in their life really means. Here are some ways to make resolutions that will actually stick, from DealDash.

Make Small Changes

You should make a small change that is easily achievable.  This will increase your chances of actually going through with your resolution. Too many people want to make resolutions that take a while to accomplish and they can get bored. They might also get frustrated and fail. Doing something that is easy to achieve will make a huge difference.

You could also make a series of small changes that add up to a big change. Such as if you want to lose 20 pounds you could make a goal of losing 5, then 10, then 20 pounds. It’s much easier to accomplish a large task when you break it up into smaller goals.

How Can You Make it Fun?

You should find a way to make sure that sticking with your resolution is fun and not a huge chore. For example, if you have set a resolution for weight loss make sure to start doing something you enjoy such as a dance class or maybe take a spinning class if you enjoy biking. It’s all up to you to make your resolution something you are going to want to achieve. It can also help to have a goal in sight, so perhaps make your resolution “to finish a 6-week exercise class” or “go to the gym 3 times per week for 3 months”.

Treat Yourself

If you feel like you are going to need some help in reaching your resolution goals create some incentives for yourself. For weight loss, you could buy new clothes. If you are looking to quit smoking take a weekend trip or something else fun to celebrate your success. Incentives can be a great help to make sure that you work your way to your goals. If you break down your big goal into smaller ones like I suggested above, then you can give yourself a small reward after accomplishing each step.

Thanks for Reading

New Year’s resolutions should not be something to dread. In fact, they should be something that you are going to want to embrace each year. Making positive changes can be a great thing to do in your life. So think hard and make sure that you can reach the resolution and you will see much more success in sticking to your resolutions.

I hope that this article has given you some good tips on thinking about new year’s resolutions. Thanks for reading the newest blog article. It can become very stressful when you are preparing for a Christmas dinner.  All of your family will be there, and you have to prepare a meal that everyone will like. Here are 3 tips to prepare for a Christmas dinner, from DealDash.

Count Heads

Figuring out your guest list is the first step that you should take in preparing for Christmas dinner. You need to know how many guests will be coming so that you will know how much food to buy, and how much seating you will need at the table. It can also be helpful to ask your guests to bring extra chairs or one of their favorite dishes to take less pressure off of you. Trust me, as the person who gets appointed to be the hostess any little thing that someone else can do is very helpful.

Create a Menu

Christmas dinner is the perfect time to try new cuisines. If you aren’t sure of what you want to prepare, there are recipes that you can find online to give you some ideas. You should choose items that can easily be made the day before Christmas including desserts. Choosing foods that are easy to make can give you some relaxation time before the big day. Try making some of the cold foods the day before such as your salad, antipasto platter, and cheese plate.

Go Grocery Shopping

When you finish your menu for the Christmas dinner, the next step is to go grocery shopping. Compile a list of ingredients that you need so you won’t have to shop during the Christmas rush. It is also important to make sure that you buy some beverages for your guests and add a nice table decoration. When you add all of these things together, you get a lovely Christmas dinner that everyone will enjoy.

DealDash Kids: Get Them Presents They Love

DealDash

Your kids are only young once. Get them presents they will love. Here are some tips from DealDash.

With Christmas time rapidly approaching you are going to want to start thinking about presents that your kids are going to actually enjoy. You will need to think hard about this as you want to make sure that you are getting presents for Christmas that will be appreciated. You don’t want to get something that will be just tossed aside. Here are some tips to keep in mind when you want to start your Christmas shopping, from DealDash.

Pay Attention to Their Interests

You are going to really want to pay attention to what your child is interested in when you are thinking about what to get them for Christmas. Think about ways you can connect their interests with a present. For example, if your child likes sports maybe get them tickets to a favorite sporting event. The possibilities here are really endless. Sports equipment for athletic kids, tickets to the ballet for little ballerinas, or maybe even pet for animal lovers.

Quality Time

Spending time with your child is another gift that would be something that they would truly enjoy. You can plan something like a spa day at home with your daughter. Or perhaps a day of cooking or baking with a son who enjoys preparing food. Again the possibilities are only limited by your imagination. So spend some time thinking about some way you could tie spending time with your kids to giving them a Christmas gift.

Make them a Gift

Making your kids a gift for the holidays is something else that you may want to consider. Putting your time and effort into something is often a very appreciated act. You can make them a toy or a craft kit or maybe even a quilt if you are good with a sewing machine. Something homemade teaches your kids to appreciate that not every gift needs to be store bought. This could also tie into “quality time” as well if you make them something to do with you. Some examples could include making them a puzzle, board game, or a craft kit that the two of you can do together.

DealDash Cooks: Tips to Make Great Cookies

DealDash

With all of the different holidays coming up, it’s time to make some cookies. Read on for more information from DealDash.

Making a fresh batch of cookies really is one of the simple pleasures in life. Unfortunately for many, their cookies do not turn out the way that they had hoped they would. Here are some tips for making sure that the cookies that you bake turn out great each time, from DealDash.

Check the Recipe

The first thing you need to do is read over your recipe. You need to make sure that you have everything that you need to make your batch of cookies. You also need to make sure that you fully understand the measurements and instructions so that you know you will be able to measure and prepare everything correctly.

In addition to the edible ingredients, also be sure to have your cooking items available as well. Gather your cookie cutters, your rolling pin, and other items to have them handy.

Don’t Handle the Dough too Much

You also need to be sure that you are handling the cookie dough properly. The number one reason that most cookies do not turn out well is that the dough has been overworked. Overworking your cookie dough will cause the cookies to become flat or even tough in some cases.

Keep a Close Eye on the Oven

Making sure you monitor the oven closely when you are baking cookies is also very important. You need to be sure that you cook them just long enough so that they are golden brown all over. Or perhaps just around the edges, depending on your recipe. Overcooking them leads to cookies that no one is going to want to eat. After they have been prepared you also need to store them in an airtight container so that they stay as fresh as possible. Failing to do so will give you stale and inedible cookies.

Thanks for Reading the Blog

Baking cookies should be a fun experience so you need to be sure that you learn all that you can about making the best batch of cookies that you can. That way you will be able to share freshly made, delicious cookies each time you decide to bake.

These are just a few tips to remember when making cookies. You can make sure that your cookies taste great by making sure to remember these tips from DealDash.

DealDash Decorates Outdoors for Christmas

DealDash

If you love decorating for Christmas, then you’ll want to read this newest article from DealDash.

Christmas is one of the best times of the year. It is a time of giving and being with family members. One of the best things about Christmas is the decorations. Many people put a tree up and decorate it, but there are also some decorations that you can do outdoors.  Here are 3 Christmas decoration ideas for your front yard, from DealDash.

Christmas Lights (of course!)

Christmas lights may seem like a simple decoration, but there are a lot of lights to choose from.  You can find Christmas lights for sale at the beginning of November up until December. When choosing Christmas lights, you should think about how much electricity you are willing to use and what color scheme you want.

There are many different types of lights to choose from. There are traditional string lights, there are solar lights, and there are even new projector-type lights. They are all great to use separately or together.

Wreaths

If you don’t want to overdo it with the Christmas decorations, a simple decoration that you can use is a wreath. You can get wreathes from almost any big box store.  Wreaths are usually found hanging outside of your front door. You can get a wreath with decorations on it, or it can light up. It’s up to you how you would like your wreath to look. You can go with a traditional pine green wreath, a red and green Christmas colored one, or even a funky one that has all different colors. It’s up to you!

Write a Message with Small Lights

A good way to make a statement is to spell out Merry Christmas with mini lights and put the sign in your front yard. You can choose between making the words small or large. Make sure that you use lights that contrast with other lights in your yard.  Writing a message will make people stop and stare at your Christmas decorations. It is an easy way to decorate your house without using too much electricity. If you’d like you can even use solar or battery powered lights for this decoration.

Also, make sure that they party area is safe for your kids and their friends to have fun in. Choosing a theme, especially if your kids are into a specific character or theme for Halloween. This way no one will be bored while they are at your party and each age group will be doing something safe while having fun. Many people enjoy hearing scary stories, singing songs, and carving or painting pumpkins.

You should also serve fun foods at your party. You can go with a theme for your food or you can simply choose kid and adult friendly choices to serve during the party. Just remember to find out if anyone that is attending is allergic to anything so you don’t serve anything that you should not be serving. Some of the most common allergies are peanut, tree nut, shellfish, and lactose intolerance. Be sure to clearly label any food that contains these ingredients.

Happy Mother’s Day from DealDash!!

dealdash mother's day

Happy Mother’s Day to all of you moms and grandmas out there! If you’re going out for fun today, here are some ideas from DealDash.

Today is your day, moms and grandmas! Are you spending time with your kids or grandkids? Or do you prefer to take the day for some “me time?” It’s your day, you do whatever you want to do today, and let someone else worry about the rest. Here are some ideas from DealDash to enjoy your day.

Sleep In, Mom

Today of all days is when you can take all of the time that you want and enjoy sleeping in. Personally, with three kids, I never get to sleep in except on Mother’s Day and my birthday. Soak up those wonderful Z’s, refresh your body and your mind.

Make Sure Someone Else Does the Chores

Don’t let your family let the dishes pile up and the carpets go unvacuumed for the day. If you’re normally the person who does the bulk of the chores, be sure to take the day off and assign those chores to someone else. If you don’t, they will just go undone and you’ll have to do them the next day. That’s not really giving you a break, that’s just putting them off. Ask your family nicely, and I’m sure that they will be happy to take over on this special day, mom.

Head Out for Brunch

Muummm, doesn’t brunch sound good? The only decision that you have to make now is do you want to go to brunch with your family or with some girlfriends? It’s your choice, though I’m sure that your kids would love to come with you. Mother’s Day brunches are always extra special and delicious. Be sure that you call ahead and put your name on the waiting list, you don’t want to wait around too long on your special day.

Take In a Movie

If you decided to go to brunch with your family, why don’t you send them home and call up a few girlfriends? It’s time for a movie matinee, and I’m sure that you’re not in the mood to see the latest cartoon movie. Pick whatever you like, mom, there are some great movies out, and I bet you had the foresight to pick up an AMC gift card from DealDash. That’s right, use your gift card for the movie as well as the snacks! Don’t worry about the calories today, it’s your own personal holiday.

Enjoy Egg Decorating with DealDash

DealDash Easter eggs

Having kids or grandkids means that you’ll be decorating some Easter eggs this weekend. Here are some tips and tricks from DealDash to make the process go more smoothly.

Decorating eggs is a fun pastime that kids and adults can enjoy together. You don’t have to be a regular churchgoer to enjoy the secular parts of Easter. There are so many great things about decorating Easter eggs. It’s fast, fun, and the best part is you can eat them when you’re done!

Decorating With a Kit

Decorating Easter eggs with a kit is, of course, the easiest way of all. There are a variety of egg decorating kits at any big box store, supermarket, and drug store. Just pick one out and follow the directions on the back of the box. However, I don’t find that the kits produce dark or vibrantly colored eggs. If you don’t care too much what your end result looks like and are decorating them purely for fun, then a kit is the easiest way to go.

Decorating With Food Coloring

Using food coloring to decorate your Easter eggs is almost as easy as using a kit, and produces more vibrant and beautifully colored eggs. Here are some simple directions to dye your eggs using food coloring

Ingredients:

  • Water
  • Vinegar
  • Food coloring

Directions:

  • Mix 1/2 cup boiling water, 1 teaspoon vinegar and 10 to 20 drops food coloring in a cup to achieve desired colors.
  • Repeat for each color.
  • Dip hard-boiled eggs in the dye solution for about 5 minutes.
  • Use a slotted spoon or tongs to add and remove eggs from the dye.
  • Double-dip some of the eggs to make new and interesting colors, or make them half-and-half.

Decorating With Shaving Cream

The newest innovation in egg decorating is to use shaving cream! Yes, the fluffy stuff you use to shave your body. Try out this fun, new way to decorate your Easter eggs this year.

Ingredients:

  • White shaving cream (not gel – and get this from the dollar store, you don’t need anything fancy.)
  • Food coloring

Directions:

  • Spread your white shaving cream out on a cookie sheet.
  • Squirt a little food coloring across the surface of the shaving cream.
  • Use a chopstick to swirl the colors around in the shaving cream.
  • Take your dry and cool hard boiled egg and roll it around in the shaving cream.
  • Put shaving cream eggs on a paper plate and allow them to dry for 5 minutes.
  • After 5 minutes, wipe off the shaving cream and rinse with water, and voila! Beautiful swirly colored Easter eggs.

DealDash Explores Myrtle Beach, SC

DealDash Myrtle Beach

Have you ever taken a trip to Myrtle Beach, SC? It’s not just for golfers anymore. Let’s explore with DealDash.

Growing up in Wilmington, NC was great, because so many nice vacation spots were just a short car ride away. One of these spots is Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Just 1.5 short hours from where I grew up lies miles of beautiful beaches, a boardwalk with an amazing ferris wheel that has enclosed seats with AC(!), a Ripley’s Believe it or Not museum, multiple haunted houses, and so much more. Here are a few fun things to do in Myrtle Beach, from DealDash.

Beaches

Going to the beach is always a favorite activity when on a trip, and Myrtle Beach has many beautiful ones to explore. If you don’t mind paying a few dollars, skip the public beach access points and hit up the Myrtle Beach State Park on the southside of town. It costs $5 per adult and $3 per child (under 5 kids are free) to get in, but then you have wide stretches of beach to yourself with less competition for a spot to put your beach towel. For the entry fee you also get access to hiking trails, a fishing pier, picnic shelters, and a nature center.

Alligator Adventure

When I was growing up in the south I had a few of my own up close and personal adventures with wild crocodiles, but Alligator Adventure is safe and supervised. There are more animals there than just alligators such as monkeys, birds, snakes, and more. The entrance fee is a little steep at $17.99, but well worth it in my opinion.

The Carolina Opry

After you’ve done the beach and kid’s activities all day, maybe it’s time for something a little more grown up. See a variety of concerts from Broadway to gospel, rock, country, and more at the Carolina Opry. There are also special events such as comedy shows, dancing performances, and lots of other entertainment. The tickets start at $50, though, so choose your show wisely.

There’s a little less than two short weeks until Christmas is here, and three until the New Year. This is the perfect time to count out blessings with DealDash and be thankful for the good things in life.

Family – Most people have a family, and the lucky ones have lots of family members. Family is there for you when you are sad and need comforting, and family is right there with you for your triumphs and celebrations. Family is a wonderful blessing to have.

Friends – They say that friends are the family that you choose for yourself. If you have one true friend, you are truly blessed. It’s also a blessing to have many friends as well, and one of the great things about friends are you can always expand your circle for more.

Health – Not everyone has the blessing of good health, but we should all be thankful for the days that we are feeling well. Good health is something that can change at any moment, so make the most of your healthy days, they are truly a blessing. If you’d like to have more healthy days try some low-impact exercise such as walking or gentle yoga.

Hobbies – Most people have a hobby that they enjoy that makes their life more enjoyable. DealDash’s New Year List

screenshot-10

There are only a few short weeks left in the year. Here are 5 things you need to do before 2017 arrives.

How was your 2016? Mine was eventful – I had a baby boy, my daughter started school, my older son has been diagnosed with ADHD, it’s been a busy year! However, even though life has been busy, there are still a few things that need to be done before we say goodbye to 2016 and hello to 2017. Join me in doing DealDash’s 5 things before the new year.

1 – Organize your family’s closets. Dig out all of those too small, too tight, or too big clothing, those worn shoes, and those clothing gifts that you have never even worn. Donate them all and be proud of yourself for cleaning your house and helping others at the same time. Don’t forget to ask for a receipt at the donation drop-off, you can use that as a charitable donation on your taxes in April.Organize your “online life.” If you’re like many people, you probably have hundreds or even thousands of pictures cluttering up your online cloud, your computer, or your cell phone. Seriously, do you really need 126 pictures of your meals at different restaurants? Sure, they’re fun to post onto Instagram or Facebook when you’re actually at the restaurant so your friends can see what you’re doing, but once you’ve posted it why bother keeping the photo?

2 – Organize your “online life.” If you’re like many people, you probably have hundreds or even thousands of pictures cluttering up your online cloud, your computer, or your cell phone. Seriously, do you really need 126 pictures of your meals at different restaurants? Sure, they’re fun to post onto Instagram or Facebook when you’re actually at the restaurant so your friends can see what you’re doing, but once you’ve posted it why bother keeping the photo? And those of you with little kids that are hard to photograph – I know that you take about 20 blurry pictures to get 1 good one! Get rid of those blurry pictures that are cluttering up your cloud.

3 – Think of a few goals for 2017. They don’t need to be your typical resolution-type goals such as exercising or cutting back on drinking. They could be things that are more fun and personal to you such as making sure that you reach out to far-away friends once a month, or to learn to knit or to be a better driver. There are lots of things that you probably want to do a little differently next year, so make a list.

4 – Get a free credit report. Make sure that everything on your credit report is accurate and up to date. There are many free credit report websites and apps available, do your due diligence and read reviews on the companies before you request your report. You’ll be glad that you got your report and cleared up any mistakes so you can go forward into 2017 without worrying about it!

5 – Bid on DealDash. Do you have a bunch of bids hanging out on your account that you haven’t used yet? Bid on some great items and gift cards and clear them out for the new year so you can start fresh.

I hope that you found this DealDash Reviewed article helpful. Be sure to check out DealDash for all of the latest home items, electronics, kids items, and more. DealDash has so many things to discover. Visit DealDash now. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!

DealDash Holiday Travel Essentials

Image result for travel essentials

Are you planning a trip for the holidays? Don’t forget to pack these holiday travel essentials.

This is the season for family get-togethers, and I don’t know about you, but I always seem to forget to pack something that I really need! I can’t even tell you how many times that I’ve had a make a quick trip to the big box store and buy a duplicate of an items that I already have at home. It can start to get quite costly, depending on how often that you travel. Here is a quick guide to the essentials that you might need on your next trip.

The first thing that you are going to need to bring on your holiday trip to visit family is a good attitude! Between traffic (or long flights), bad weather, and stress sometimes we aren’t as enthusiastic about visiting for the holidays as we should be feeling. Remember, this is your family, you decided to come visit because you love them – try to have a good attitude.

Aside from your normal toiletries that you would regularly bring on a trip, is there any special look that you might want to wear on the holiday? Even ladies that don’t normally wear a lot of make-up sometimes like to glam it up on the holidays. Go ahead girls, throw in that glitter eye shadow and those fake lashes!

In the same vein, don’t forget to pack something special to wear on the holiday, or for any nights out to neighborhood parties. If you don’t usually dress up, why not make a special effort for the holiday? Don’t forget to pack shoes to go with your outfit as well as anything else you might need like pantyhose or a strapless bra.

If you’re travelling now and don’t plan on coming back for Christmas be sure to pack any presents that you were planning on gifting. Why pay shipping later if you can bring them with you now and leave them for your family to open on Christmas?

Lastly, don’t forget to bring your laptop so you can still participate in DealDash auctions! If you don’t have a laptop you can always download the DealDash app for your Android or iPhone. You can buy bids, bookmark auctions so you can come back to them later, set or remove BidBuddies, and of course bid on auctions! Winning an auction on the DealDash app is easy and fun.

DealDash Travels: Washington, D.C.

Everyone should visit our nation’s capital at least once. Here are some things that you should make a point to see while you are there.

Washington, D.C. has been ranked as the #8 best place to visit on the U.S. News and Report website. If you haven’t ever made it to Washington, D.C. you should make it a point to visit on your next vacation.

Washington, D.C. is famous for many things – The White House, Lincoln Memorial, and Washington Monument are things that every American should see at least once. There are also many fun things to make a family vacation enjoyable for the kids as well, such as the National Zoo and the Smithsonian Museum. Surprisingly, all of the Smithsonian attractions as well as the National Zoo have free admission!

Did you know that basketball player Kevin Durant, politician Al Gore, actor Samuel L. Jackson, and your favorite DealDash blogger (me!) were all born in Washington, D.C.?

If you plan on visiting Washington, D.C., you won’t even need to rent a car! The Metro (Washington metropolitan Area Transit Authority), as it’s locally known, is a great way to get around. You are able to fly into Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA) in Arlington, Virginia and take the Metro into the city to check into your hotel. The cost for the Metro is minimal and ranges from $1.75 to $5.90 per trip, depending on your destination and if you are travelling during “peak” or “off-peak” times, which is an awesome deal compared to a taxi or an Uber.

The best times to visit Washington, D.C. are the spring and the fall to get nice weather as well as slightly better pricing for your hotel than if you were to travel in the summer. And as a bonus, if you travel late in late March or early April you will be able to catch the National Cherry Blossom Festival. This upcoming year, 2017, the National Cherry Blossom Festival will take place from March 20th to April 16th. The cherry blossom trees are currently growing in three National Park Service locations: the Tidal Basin in West Potomac Park, in East Potomac Park (Hains Point), and also on the Washington Monument grounds.

If you’re planning on travelling you might want to get some new luggage. DealDash has a number of beautiful luggage sets up for auction. If you’re looking for luggage, check DealDash first! Just click this link right here and come browse the auctions on DealDash. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!

DealDash Travels: San Diego

Image result for san diego

Now is a great time to start planning your next vacation. According to the U.S. News, San Diego, California is number 9 on the list of the best places in the USA to visit.

There are a few things to do when deciding to plan your next vacation, and picking a destination is the first step! San Diego is a wonderful city that has a rich history as well as a current appeal. Let’s take a look at what makes San Diego such a great place to visit on your next vacation.

Image result for san diego weather

The first thing that people tend to mention when speaking on San Diego is the weather. Sunny and warm is par for the course in San Diego. As you can see in the chart above, San Diego temperatures rarely dip below 60 or rise above 75. In my mind, that is just about as perfect as you can get. I visited San Diego a few years ago in February, and the weather was sunny and in the mid-60s for the entire week. It was a little slice of perfection compared to the New England weather that I have become accustomed to.

Besides the weather, people love to vacation in San Diego for the cuisine. San Diego has everything, from food trucks to fine dining and everything in-between. Since San Diego is in such close proximity to Mexico there are countless amazing Mexican restaurants that you can try. If Mexican cuisine isn’t your thing, just look to the East – the Pacific Ocean is right there, with all of it’s fishy bounty. If you’re into beer, San Diego boasts over 70 breweries! You could fill your vacation with brewery tours, if you so chose.

Lastly, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention any fun kid’s activities! San Diego has two of my favorite attractions – Sea World and the San Diego Zoo! Those are two “must see” items on my list if you have kids, and on my “should see” list if you don’t have kids!

I hope that you found this article informative. If you’re planning a trip you should definitely check out the luggage on DealDash. DealDash has the latest styles of luggage in all sizes. Just click this link right here to go browse the auctions. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!

DealDash Crafts: No-Carve Pumpkins

Image result for no carve pumpkins

As popular as pumpkin carving is, there are quite a few situations where carving isn’t practical. Here are some fun and creative no-carve, no-mess pumpkins.

Carving pumpkins is always fun, but there are many situations where pumpkin carving is just too messy and impractical. Pumpkin decorating can be just as creative and fun as carving, and many designs can be done much more quickly than their carved counterparts.

Brad pumpkin. No, we didn’t name the pumpkin Brad…All of those little colorful circular items that are decorating the pumpkin above are brads from scrapbooking. You are probably more familiar with the plain gold or silver brads, but for maximum pumpkin decorating, go for the colorful ones. You can get them at any craft store that has scrapbooking supplies. Make a random design, a geometric design, or even a face design with the brads. They are made out of metal, you can just stick them right into the pumpkin’s skin. Sorry, Brad!

Image result for cupcake pumpkins no carve

Cupcake pumpkin. The cupcake pumpkin is super-easy to make. If you’re lucky you might be able to find a pumpkin that is more brown than orange, but if not, don’t despair! Simply paint the bottom half of the pumpkin with brown craft paint, and the top half of the pumpkin with the frosting color of your choice – pink, white, or even chocolate-brown. After the frosting color has dried, paint on multi-colored sprinkles. Please don’t use your pumpkin for any food-related purposes after you have painted it.

Mummy pumpkin. Wrap your pumpkin up with gauze, and then paint over it with Mod Podge. If you don’t have Mod Podge simply use a mixture of 50/50 Elmer’s Glue and water. Stick on a pair of googly eyes and you’re set! Feel free to draw on a mouth with a Sharpie or cut and glue one out of construction paper.

Emoji pumpkins. These are some of the easiest pumpkins to make. Paint your pumpkins a flat yellow color. After they dry you can either paint on the emoji faces, or cut and glue cardboard emoji faces as seen in the picture above. Either way, they are cute, current, and will be a hit with the trick or treaters.

DealDash Roasts Pumpkin Seeds

Image result for pumpkin seeds

Since you are probably carving your pumpkins around this time, I figured it was time for a roasted pumpkin seed recipe.

Roasted pumpkin seeds are absolutely delicious, a healthy snack, and fun to make. What’s not to love? You can roast your pumpkin seeds with a basic recipe like the one below, or you can always get creative and add ingredients such as cinnamon and sugar, cayenne pepper, oil and vinegar, cocoa…The varieties are  practically endless! Basically, any kind of seasoning that you might add to chips would taste great on roasted pumpkin seeds. Now on to the recipe…

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 Cups raw pumpkin seeds, cleaned and dried
  • 2 Tbs melted butter
  • 1/8 tsp salt

Directions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 300 degrees F
  2. Toss seeds in a bowl with the melted butter and salt.
  3. Spread the seeds in a single layer on a baking sheet and bake for about 45 minutes or until golden brown; stir occasionally.

See, isn’t that simple?? These seeds make such a great base to add extra seasonings and flavors. You can also do a lot with these seeds after they have been roasted, such as:

  • Add the seeds as a topping for a salad instead of croutons
  • Add the seeds in a home-made trail mix with granola and dried fruit
  • Put them in tiny bags for your kid’s snack at school
  • Bring them with you when you’re out to avoid buying costly and fattening snacks
  • Bake them into cookies or brownies

I am in love with these roasted pumpkin seeds, and I look forward to carving the pumpkins with the kids every year so I can make these yummy roasted pumpkin seeds.

DealDash Thinks About Presents

Image result for pile of presents

Even though it’s not even Halloween yet Christmas decorations are already decorating the shelves of the local stores. I guess it’s not to early to start thinking about Christmas presents…

Do you have any idea yet what you are planning to get for your kids, your mom, your friend? Well, if you start shopping (and winning!) now on DealDash you will be able to get everyone taken care of, presents wrapped, and ready to go before Christmas is here. And when you think about it like that, it’s actually a present to yourself! Shopping early means no waiting in long lines, no last-minute splurges, and no guilt that you didn’t think of the perfect present. It sounds like it’s time to get shopping. Here are a few ideas that you might want to think about in terms of gifting this year…

Bluetooth headphones – Bluetooth headphones are a great gift for many people. They are perfect for people who love to exercise, of course, but they are also great for the people on your list who love to try out the latest gadgets. Even your mom or grandma might like bluetooth headphones for doing gardening or yard work outside, or even in the kitchen for when they are cooking and can’t pick up the phone when someone calls. They are also great for teenagers and kids as well – but not kids that are too young, you don’t want them getting lost.

Back massager- A back massager is the perfect gift for just about anyone over the age of 30. You can go cheaper with a non-electronic one, they actually have some really nice ones at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. Or if you’re feeling spendy you can get a much nicer one that has electronic rollers, heat, and various speeds and firmness. I personally have both types of mechanical and non-mechanical, and I can say that both are great!

Decorative clock –  A decorative clock is a nice present for someone who you want to give a gift to, but you aren’t very close, or you just have no idea what they need or like. Almost everyone could use a decorative clock, whether they plan on putting it somewhere on display such as the mantle, or just to use as a decoration in their guest room. It’s a completely non-offensive, useful, and fun item that would be a nice present for an aunt that you don’t see that often, or a neighbor that you aren’t sure of their hobbies or interests.

Kitchen gadget – If you’re in a quandary of what to get someone but you know that they enjoy cooking, how about a kitchen gadget? You could get them a nice ceramic knife, a beautiful tea kettle, or a fun set of dessert plates. The choices are practically endless when you are choosing a fun kitchen gadget.

DealDash Spooky Crafts: Jar Lights

Image result for halloween mason jar lights

Making jack-o-lanterns out of real pumpkins is fun, but if you’re not up for a big pumpkin guts mess this year try these spooky mason jar lights instead.

Let’s face it, carving pumpkins is a huge mess. It’s fun, and I would never deprive my children of this great childhood activity, but since both of my bigger kids are at school this year they are actually carving pumpkins on a field trip – I feel like I can skip it, since the baby doesn’t know what he’s missing! However, since I do like to keep things festive for the holidays, I thought that this spooky mason jar craft project was a happy medium between “huge mess” and “not decorating”. This craft is fun, easy, and only needs a few materials to make a very adorably spooky decoration.

Materials:

  • Mason Jar
  • String of fairy lights
  • Tissue paper (any color, but if you want to make “pumpkins” use orange)
  • Construction paper (black)
  • Paint (optional)
  • Scissors
  • Mod podge (or watered down elmer’s glue)
  • paintbrush

Instructions:

  1. Cut out your “pumpkin” face, or any other shape that you would like use to decorate the jar.
  2. Using the mod podge or glue, attach the face shapes to the inside of the mason jar.
  3. Using thin strips of tissue paper, attach 1 layer of tissue paper to the inside of the jar using the paintbrush, coat it with the mod modge or glue. Set aside to dry.
  4. Cover the outside of the lid with either paint or a layer of the tissue paper. I find that the paint looks better, but the tissue paper dries more quickly. It’s your choice.
  5. After everything has dried, put your fairy lights inside the jar. Put the battery pack in the bottom of the jar, and put the lights inside on top of the battery pack. You can arrange them in any way you like, but since they will be shining through the tissue paper it doesn’t really make much of a difference how you place them as long as the battery pack is on the bottom.
  6. That’s it! Enjoy your spooky Halloween mason jar.

I hope that you found this to be a fun craft to do by yourself or with your kids or grandkids. DealDash has some great auctions on craft and sewing supplies. Cereal Box Stencil Bags

Decorate a plain fabric tote with cereal box stencils and kid-friendly sponge painting.

Materials:
-Fabric tote (any color, but neon orange or green for safety is best!)
-Fabric paint
– sponge (if you can find the sponge on a stick for painting that would be great)
-Cereal box (Any size)
-Exacto knife or box cutter and surface to cut on
-Washi or masking tape

Instructions:
1. Cut the front and back off of your cereal box.
2. Using the above shapes template you can cut & paste the picture, and enlarge it on your computer to print out. Cut out jack-o’-lantern shapes with an exacto knife on a safe cutting surface. You can most likely do this on your garage floor or driveway, put down an extra thick piece of cardboard from a bigger box under your cereal box and cut away!
3. Next, tape your cardboard stencil to the fabric bag and gently dab on the craft paint using your sponge, peel off stencil, let dry for at least an hour. You can make it dry faster by using a hairdryer on a low setting. Don’t use the higher setting because it could move your paint.

Personalized Treat Buckets

These are great buckets to keep the candy in that you will be handing out at the door.

Materials:
-Large empty ice cream bucket with a handle
-Felt, multiple festive colors is recommended
-Hot glue gun
-Ribbon, 6 yards per bucket
-Foam stamps in fun Halloween shapes such as bats or skulls

Instructions:
1.  Apply the felt to the bucket using the hot glue gun. Cover the entire surface around the outside. Use more than you need to, and cut off the excess.
2. Glue your ribbon to the top and bottom of the bucket so that you cover up the felt edges. It just looks much nicer and more “put together” this way.
3. Tie contrasting colored ribbons on the handle.
4. Stick on the fun foam shapes to decorate your bucket. These foam shapes usually have a sticky back, but if you would like to reinforce your foam shapes, just use a little hot glue from the gun.

DealDash Gives Travel Tips

Image result for travel

Most people enjoy travelling. Here are some handy tips for the next time you are able to get away for a long weekend or even a full vacation.

There are so many destinations out there that are just waiting to be explored. Travel is one hobby that is enjoyed by almost everyone – no matter what the age, from kid to grandparent and everyone in-between, most people love to get away for a holiday. I enjoy travel very much, and I have picked up quite a few handy tips over the years that might be able to help someone else. Here are some of my handy travel tips.

  • Be sure to pack all of your cords – phone cord, laptop cord, iPad cord, etc. If you are going somewhere overseas you might want to invest in a voltage converter.
  • Make as many sets of outfits as you are going to be at your destination, plus an extra one. Roll each outfit set with the undergarments and socks on the inside, and then stack your outfit tubes in your luggage. It saves space as well as time. And because they are rolled instead of folded they will have less wrinkles when you unpack them.
  • Always remember to bring your toothbrush & toothpaste, your prescription medications, your deodorant, and your PJs.If you are travelling in the USA or Canada it is very likely that you will be able to go to a store and buy anything that you might have forgotten, but don’t count on it. Double-check your packing before you close up your suitcase.
  • If you are travelling outside of the USA or Canada, be sure to pack some personal tissue packs and/or travel baby wipes. Many places outside of North America don’t offer free toilet paper in public restrooms. When I was travelling in Beijing there were often people selling small packs of toilet paper outside of public restrooms near tourist attractions.
  • Call your bank and credit card company before you leave and put a travel alert on your accounts. Also, be sure to jot down their international customer service number in case you run into trouble while you are away.
  • Pack a hat and sunblock, even if you aren’t going to the beach or somewhere traditionally “outdoorsy.” Chances are you will be doing a lot of walking if you are a tourist, and will get a lot more sun than you normally do – so wear your SPF and hat, please!

I hope that you found some of these tips helpful for the next time you travel. If you’re looking for luggage or any other travel supplies be sure to check out DealDash. Entertain Us on a Trip, DealDash

Taking a car trip can be fun for the whole family, but sometimes it can be hard to keep everyone entertained. Here are a few tips to keep everyone busy.

The first thing that you need to keep in mind when you are planning your trip is how long you are planning on being in the car, what stops that you are going to make, and if it’s likely that the passengers will have to be entertained the whole trip or if there will be some napping along the way.

If you are going on a long car trip with the family I am going to assume that you will have at least 1 or more kids in the car. With that said, it all depends on the age of the child/ren exactly how much entertaining that you will have to do and how much of the entertaining that they will be able to handle for themselves.

One of my favorite things to do before a trip is to make a playlist for the trip of songs that my family likes to sing along with. My kids (especially my daughter) love music, and will sing along to the latest Katy Perry and Taylor Swift songs like any little kid, but she also takes pride in the fact that she can sing along with songs that I grew up enjoying in the 90s! The playlists that I make I put on my iPod, which is such a time-saver. If you need to replace your iPod I would suggest checking out DealDash. Just click here and you will be taken to a page with the iPods that will be available to bid on or set an alert on. Just click the blue “Alert me” button and DealDash will send you a quick email when your item will be coming up for bid.

Another thing that my family finds very entertaining on road trips is snacks! There’s nothing like a chorus of children (and one husband) all whining “I’m hungry, I’m starving, feeeeeeed meeeee!” So I always make sure that I pack enough snacks for everyone to enjoy. In the case of the children I like to get the little snack sized bags and pack them each a bag of goldfish, pretzels, raisins, and fruit snacks. If I don’t pack them the exact same things it starts a big pout-fest, so I am sure to make things even.

The last thing that I always pack for our road trips is a neck pillow and blanket for everyone. I love to sleep on long trips if the kids are quiet, and I have a much higher chance of being able to nap myself if the kids are able to get comfy in the car. A word of caution, though, don’t give any kids under the age of 3 a neck pillow, please. It’s unlikely anything bad would happen, but it’s better to be safe than sorry.

I hope that this article gave you some ideas on how to entertain your family on a trip. Be sure to visit DealDash and check out the iPads, ipods, portable DVD players, and more in the Electronics and Computers category, located here. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!

DealDash Helps: Pack for Vacation

A lot of people have trouble figuring out what to pack for a vacation. Some people bring too much, others not enough. DealDash is here to help.

Let’s assume that you are going on a 1 week vacation to somewhere warm with a beach, since that seems like the most common vacation that people seem to take. The goal is to get everything to fit into one suitcase and one carry on. Here’s what you’re going to need:

Toiletries:

  • Toothbrush/paste/floss
  • Hair brush
  • Razor/shave cream
  • Lotion
  • Shampoo/conditioner
  • Sunblock
  • Hair mousse/spray (if needed)
  • Medication (if needed)
  • Contacts/solution (if needed)
  • Make up (if needed)

When you are packing your toiletries for your 1 week vacation you can skip buying those “airline approved” 2 ounce bottles. Just pack what you actually need. You don’t really need a whole bottle of lotion for a quick trip. Try packing your toiletries in smaller containers such as in contact lens containers.

Clothing

  • 1 shirt per day
  • 1 pair of pants, shorts or skirts for every two days
  • 1 pair of underwear/bras per day
  • 1 pair of socks per day
  • 3 undershirts/tank tops that can double as PJs/loungewear
  • 3 pairs of lightweight shorts that can double as PJs/loungewear
  • 1 dress (if needed)
  • 1 bathing suit (if needed, you should rinse and hang it up in the shower daily)
  • 1 pair of sneakers
  • 1 pair of sandals

You will want to choose neutral colors or jeans for your bottoms so you can mix and match them with all of your tops. I would suggest mixing up the tops, such as one dressy shirt, a couple of sleeveless shirts, a couple of short sleeve shirts, and perhaps one long sleeve shirt if your destination has the possibility of being cold or windy if it happens to rain on one of your vacation days. Shoe-wise, be sure to wear the sneakers on the plane instead of the sandals. They are heavier which will keep your luggage weight down, and they are also safer in an emergency.

My other suggestion to you may seem slightly wasteful, so please only use it if you feel comfortable. I love the concept of “disposable clothing.” When I was packing for my 3 week trip to China a few years ago I had the idea of bringing my oldest underwear, bras, socks, PJs, and t-shirts so I could just throw them away at the end of my vacation so I would have room to bring back more souvenirs from my trip. I didn’t end up actually throwing them away as I had planned, though, I simply left them folded on top of the dresser in my hotel room. I figured that the hotel staff might either donate them or cut them up to use for cleaning. Either way, I was able to clean out my closet and make room in my suitcase, win-win!

Miscellaneous

  • Phone/ipad/ipod charger
  • Snacks
  • Baby wipes (so useful even if you don’t have kids!)
  • Hat

If you are in need of a new toiletry bag or even some new luggage be sure to check out DealDash. They have all kinds of things that will help you pack for your vacation. Check out this link and see how much you can save! Good luck and happy bidding everyone!
