Take Some Time to Relax

It is important to be able to find some time during the day for ourselves to try to relax. This can mean strolling in a park, going to a library, listening to music, taking a relaxing bath, or doing another activity that we like. This is in order to try to reduce stress levels, and thus at the end of the day have more options to achieve a cycle of sleep-wake. The sleep-wake cycle allows us to rest and recover.

Sleep Disorders: Insomnia & Hypersomnia

Insomnia

Insomnia can be common in specific situations of high stress. Some examples include exams, health problems, major life changes, etc. However, it can become chronic and is no longer directly related to the problem that caused it. In order for us to be able to talk about insomnia at the level of illness or disorder, it must be “common,” which is considered three or more nights a week.

Indicators of insomnia may include involuntary waking before six and a half hours of rest, multiple instances of waking up at night without being able to get back to sleep in more than half an hour, or taking more than half an hour to fall asleep at bedtime. Again, having these things happen to you occasionally is not typically a problem. It’s only when this becomes common that it’s an issue.

Hypersomnia

Hypersomnia means excessive sleep during the day, and there are different syndromes and manifestations of different origins. For example, narcolepsy-cataplexy syndrome is characterized by uncontrollable sleep attacks, episodes of paralysis during sleep, hallucinations during sleep and/or cataplexy (loss of muscle tone).

Another syndrome, sleep apnea, affects mainly (but not only) hypertensive and obese people. In apnea, breathing stops during more or less long periods of sleep, which can lead to cardiac, neurological and social problems. There are medical treatments for apnea, such as the application of a continuous-entry oxygen mask, also known as a C-Pap. This is a serious disorder, and if you suspect you suffer from sleep apnea you should schedule a visit with your doctor.

Spend Some Time Alone – With DealDash

I’ve always loved spending time alone, but I it makes some people uncomfortable. Here are some tips and tricks from DealDash to enjoy your own company.

If you’re one of the many people who aren’t comfortable spending time alone…Why not? I have three small kids, so I never get a chance to do things alone, but before I had them I loved doing things by myself. It’s good to learn how to be your own best company, you never know when you might end up by yourself with some time on your hands. Why not make the most of it? Here are some things that you can enjoy doing by yourself.

Exercise

There are so many exercises that are better solo. You can swim, use workout machines, dance, or lift weights. There are other things such as going to the driving range and hitting a few balls that can be really fun by yourself as well. Of course, running is a great solo activity as well.

Enjoy the Outdoors

There are lots of things that you can do outside that don’t require any companionship. Taking a hike or a nature walk can be extremely relaxing and a wonderful solo activity. You can also go canoeing or kayaking, take a walk along the beach, or even go to a zoo or aquarium by yourself.

Arts and Entertainment

If you’re new to spending time by yourself, then these activities might be a little advanced for you. However, I have done these things alone and loved every minute. You can start small by going to a movie by yourself. There seems to be a stigma attached to attending a movie by yourself – but I’ve worked in 4 different movie theaters in my life, and going to the movies alone is very common and nothing to be ashamed of.

Once you’re comfortable going to the movies by yourself, why not step up your game? You can try going to an art gallery, concert, or even a play by yourself. Many of these activities are perfect for going alone because you really aren’t supposed to be talking to your companions, anyway!

I don’t need to worry about figuring out when they’re open if I get some spare time to myself. Happy Mother’s Day to all of you moms and grandmas out there! If you’re going out for fun today, here are some ideas from DealDash.

Today is your day, moms and grandmas! Are you spending time with your kids or grandkids? Or do you prefer to take the day for some “me time?” It’s your day, you do whatever you want to do today, and let someone else worry about the rest. Here are some ideas from DealDash to enjoy your day.

Today of all days is when you can take all of the time that you want and enjoy sleeping in. Personally, with three kids, I never get to sleep in except on Mother’s Day and my birthday. Soak up those wonderful Z’s, refresh your body and your mind.

Don’t let your family let the dishes pile up and the carpets go unvacuumed for the day. If you’re normally the person who does the bulk of the chores, be sure to take the day off and assign those chores to someone else. If you don’t, they will just go undone and you’ll have to do them the next day. That’s not really giving you a break, that’s just putting them off. Ask your family nicely, and I’m sure that they will be happy to take over on this special day, mom.

Head Out for Brunch

Muummm, doesn’t brunch sound good? The only decision that you have to make now is do you want to go to brunch with your family or with some girlfriends? It’s your choice, though I’m sure that your kids would love to come with you. Mother’s Day brunches are always extra special and delicious. Be sure that you call ahead and put your name on the waiting list, you don’t want to wait around too long on your special day.

Take In a Movie

If you decided to go to brunch with your family, why don’t you send them home and call up a few girlfriends? It’s time for a movie matinee, and I’m sure that you’re not in the mood to see the latest cartoon movie. Pick whatever you like, mom, there are some great movies out, and I bet you had the foresight to pick up an AMC gift card from DealDash. But you might make some great memories with your family.

If your family isn’t the sort that relaxes and invigorates you, then be sure to make some time to spend with your friends. Because, you know, friends are the family that you choose for yourself.

I don’t know what your personal hobby is, but mine is shopping! Of course, everytime that I say that my husband groans and rolls his eyes. It’s true, though. Mall shopping, outlet shopping, garage sailing, and online shopping, I love it all.
