DealDash

Let DealDash help you prepare the outside of your house for cleaning. Read on for cleaning tips and tricks.

Keeping the outside of your house clean is very important. It may seem like a daunting task because of how large the outside of your house might be.  You should have a strategy set in place when you are going to clean the outside of your house. It is important to prepare the outside of your house for cleaning. Here are some tips to prepare the outside of your home for cleaning, from DealDash.

Choose the Right Day

Choosing the right day to clean your house is important.  It is best to wait for a dry and warm day. Windy weather can cause the cleaning spray to blow back on you when you clean.  So it is important to wait for a warm and dry day so that you can clean the outside of your house properly and without any accidental injuries. It is very unsafe for your health to get the cleaning chemicals on your skin, so please heed my warning about windy weather.

Protect Your Home

It is important to protect the area that is around your home. You should make sure that all doors and windows are closed.  Put plastic sheeting and duct tape outside electrical outlets, lights, and vents. Move the furniture on your lawn and porch out of the way. It is important to make sure that your animals and kids are out of the way when you are cleaning. As I mentioned before, cleaning supplies are very unsafe, especially heavy-duty ones for outside cleaning.

Remove the Stains

It is important to inspect the outside of your home for any stains. Remove all stains with soap and water before you begin to clean. You can use dishwashing soap or a scrub brush to remove the stains.  Scrub the stains off of your home with a coarse brush until it begins to lift. Removing the stains from your home will prep your house for deeper cleaning.

After you have removed the surface stains you can feel free to get started with the power washer. The power washer is your best bet to get the outside of your home clean and beautiful.

Throwing a Fall BBQ? Let DealDash Help!

DealDashNow that the weather is getting cooler you might be wondering if you can still BBQ outside.

The fall season is upon us, and the weather has changed. That does not mean that you can’t still throw a barbeque party outside.  Having a barbeque during the fall time with your family and friends is a wonderful way to spend time together with the ones you love. You have to make some minor changes in the setup, but you can still have a fun barbeque during the fall. Here are some tips, from DealDash.

Pick the Right Grill

The most important part of a barbeque party is having a grill.  You should choose a grill based on the size of your party.  One of the advantages of throwing a fall barbeque is that grills are cheaper than they are in the summer.  There are plenty of places you can go for a grill either online stores or in person. Picking the right one will help make your barbeque successful. DealDash has a nice selection of grills and grilling accessories that you can check out right here.

Have Enough Chairs

You cannot have a successful barbeque without proper seating. There are a lot of outside chairs that you can use for your guests. You will also need some outdoor tables to put snacks and dishes on.  It is best to keep a few folding chairs nearby along with your patio chairs just in case you need more chairs for your guests. If you need any of these items be sure to check out DealDash. You can bid on them, and if you don’t win you can always do a BIN (Buy It Now), pay full price, and get all of your bids back.

Serve the Proper Foods

We all know that summer barbeques are about hot dogs and hamburgers. During the fall time, you should add seasonal foods to your menu such as fall fruits and squash.  You can look online and see which foods are in season for a barbeque.  Grilled fruit is another way to add a twist to your barbeque food. You can also cook mushrooms and corn on the cob. Personally, after steak, pineapple is my favorite food to put on the grill.

DealDash Plans for a Veggie Garden

DealDash

It’s not too early to start planning next year’s garden. Read on for more information from DealDash.

There is nothing like fresh produce. The best way to get fresh produce is to grow your own vegetables in a garden. Not only do you save money, but it is also a rewarding experience. You will always have a fresh supply of food. It can also be a great bonding experience for you and your family. However, there are some important things you need to know about starting your own vegetable garden. Here are some things to think about and plan for, from DealDash.

Choose What Type of Vegetable

Taking into consideration the size of the vegetable is the most important thing you should do. It is wise to start out with a small vegetable.  You should also think about what type of vegetables your family will eat.  Vegetables like tomatoes, squash, and peppers are good to start with. If no one in your home likes the vegetable that you are thinking about growing then it wouldn’t make sense to choose that one. Pick something that the whole family enjoys.

Decide on How Much Space You Need

Deciding how much space you need is very important. You want the vegetables to have plenty of room to grow. You do not always need a large area to grow your vegetables.  You can choose a small section or a container, to begin with.  Think about the size of your vegetables and that can determine how much space you need.

For example, I grow all of my veggies in containers. I have a large raised garden trough that I grow the strawberries. I grow my other veggies such as tomatoes in large pots that I keep on my deck. It works out for me, since I don’t need a large garden. Your needs might be different.

Pick the Right Spot

Vegetables need the sun, good soil, and plenty of water to grow, so it is important to pick the right spot for your vegetables to grow.  Most plants need direct exposure to sunlight, so it is best to find an area where the sun will be visible at all times.  Some people prefer to have their garden next to their home which can make it easier to harvest the food when you are cooking.  The right spot will help your vegetables grow.

Thanks for Reading the Blog

Planting a vegetable garden has a lot of benefits. That is why it is important to consider these tips if you want fresh vegetables.  Watering your vegetables, and doing regular maintenance can help give you the garden that you have always wanted.

DealDash Starts Seeds for the Garden

Starting seeds dealdash

Depending on where you live, it might be a good time to start your seeds. Here are some tips and ideas from DealDash to get them started.

Are you ready to get your fruits and veggie seeds started indoors? It’s easy to do and makes a fun project to do with the kids or grandkids. It can get a little messy, so be sure to do it somewhere that yo can easily clean up such as the basement, garage, or even outside if you can catch a warm day. According to the Farmer’s Almanac, most annual flowers and vegetables should be sown indoors about 6 weeks before the last frost in your area. Depending on your location, that could be right now!

You don’t need many things to get your seeds started, but here is a small list:

Materials Needed:

  • Seed packets
  • soil less peat moss
  • Containers
  • Water

Easy Directions:

  • Fill your containers with soil less peat moss almost to the top, and then moisten with warm water.
  • Plant your seeds according to your seed packet. Press them into the peat moss unless the packet says otherwise. Plant the largest seeds in the package to get the best germination rate.
  • Cover containers with plastic wrap and poke a few holes for ventilation.
  • Find a place in your house where there is natural bottom heat—on top of the refrigerator is a great spot.
  • When the little baby seedlings appear, remove the plastic and move the seed containers into bright light.
  • After the seeds have sprouted and are growing a few leaves move the seedlings carefully to the new pots and water them well.

What sorts of seeds are you planning on planting this year? I am really looking forward to doing tomatoes, cucumbers, and zucchini squash this year. I have missed out on planting seeds for the last two years due to being pregnant the first time around and having a newborn the second time around! Now that life has returned to normal I’m ready to get my seeds started and enjoy watching my plants grow this year.

DealDash Visits the Farm

Image result for farm october

Visiting your local farm in October can be a lot of fun. There are usually many fun family activities.

Family activities at your local farm can range from picking apples, hay bale mazes, face-painting, apple cider donuts, and so much more. It’s also very appropriate to visit your local farm in October, because October is National Farm to School Month.

Farm to School Month is a great opportunity for kids to find out where out food really comes from. If you aren’t familiar with Farm to School the basic idea is that  through cooperation with the school system and local farm students gain access to healthy, local foods as well as education opportunities such as school gardens, cooking lessons and farm field trips. Farm to school teaches children and their families about the outdoors, how food is grown, and provides them with hands-on activities that can take place at their school or during school field trips. A little over 40% of public schools in the US take part in Farm to School Month, which is great, because the kids love it!

If you don’t have a child in school, or your child’s school doesn’t participate, then you should try to make time to visit your local farm. It’s a lot of fun for the children, and it’s a wonderful way to get them excited about fruits, vegetables, and eating healthy. Sadly, in America one out of every three kids is overweight or obese, and at-risk for Type 2 Diabetes. It would be a great benefit for them to learn healthy eating habits while they are still young, and it will save them a lot of trouble when they are older.

Visiting your local farm is a fun family activity that can have some positive benefits for your child, and even for you, too! As the temperature gets colder, though, you might want to stay warm and toasty inside. Give the kids a fun activity to do, such as drawing pictures of your farm adventure, and you can browse DealDash! DealDash is always there for you, 24/7. No matter the weather, DealDash has hours of entertainment shopping fun for you to explore. Just click this link here and it will take you to DealDash. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!

DealDash Hangs the Laundry

Some people might say that hanging the laundry outside is ridiculous to bother with when you have a nice dryer inside. But there’s just something about laundry dried outside…

I get it, I get it – you have an expensive new dryer that you got when you bought your new HE washing machine. Why would you hang your laundry outside when you have a nice dryer inside? A few reasons, actually. Here are some of the benefits of hanging your laundry outside to dry in the spring, summer, and fall.

  • It’s cheaper! Things being cheaper is my main motivation for a lot of the things that I do. If you are drying your clothing in your washing machine you are using either gas or electric, and you are most likely making your house a bit hotter as well, which means your air conditioner has to come on more often as well. If you hang your clothing out to dry after they are washed you eliminate both of these money-wasting activities.
  • The sun is anti-bacterial. If you have a child who has “accidents” in either their under wear or in their bed, hanging them out to dry in the sunshine can completely remove the scent if there is any left behind after washing. Also, if any of your laundry got a little bunched up while it was washing, and didn’t get 100% clean, the sun will take care of the rest.
  • You don’t need dryer sheets. I know that I am in the minority, but I hate dryer sheets. I hate how they smell. I hate their waxy feel, and I hate how they seem to leave a little bit of a film on your bath towels that makes them less absorbent. When you hang your clothes out to dry on the line it eliminates the need for the dryer sheets, which makes me very happy.

There are still a couple of months left that you can hang your laundry outside before it gets too cold. Take advantage of the free sunshine and fresh air and get out there! After you’re done hanging the laundry, come back in and check out DealDash. DealDash has Tide liquid, Tide pods, and even small washing machines up for auction! Check out this link right here and see the laundry supplies. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!

Building a Bird Bath with DealDash

You might remember the DealDash article a few weeks ago showing you how to build a bird house. If you enjoyed that, perhaps it time to build a bird bath.

A well-constructed and thoughtfully executed bird bath can bring new species of birds to your yard for you to enjoy. The bird bath’s placement is very important so that the birds feel safe visiting the bath. Bird bath construction is very easy and can be completed quickly without extensive woodworking knowledge needed.

The first step in constructing your new bird bath is to decide where it will be placed in your yard. You want the bird bath to be easily visible to you when you are on your deck or inside your house. It’s also very important that the bird bath has some protection, either from a tree, bush, your deck, or even from the side of your house. If your bird bath is out in the open yard the birds won’t feel comfortable because it’s very likely that a hawk or other large predatory bird might swoop down and carry off your new birdie friends.

Next you will need to place a wooden post in the ground where you have decided to put your bird bath. A wooden post that is made for a mailbox is just perfect! If you have ever dug a hole and placed and sealed in a post for a mailbox it’s virtually the same thing. They sell “Quick Concrete” that’s in single-serve bags that meant to put in one mailbox post. It’s very simple to use, just pour the powdered concrete in, pour the correct measurement of water in, hold the post steady for 10 minutes, and bam! You’ve got yourself a post.

The next thing you’ll want to do is secure whatever vessel that you have chosen to be your bird bath. Many people like to go with a simple terra-cotta pot and saucer, or even just the saucer. You can put the pot facedown on the pole, secure with a putty or silicone, and place the saucer on top – this allows for easy cleaning. Simply take the saucer off and put it back on when you need to clean it.

That’s it! Simple, easy, and a lot of fun once your little birds start coming by daily. Be sure to change the water often, and the birds will be very happy.

If making a bird bath sounds like it’s just a little too much work for your busy lifestyle, how about getting either a bird bath or a fountain from DealDash? It will save you some effort, and you can have fun bidding on your new yard ornament. Just click here and it will take you to the DealDash page with the lawn ornaments. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!

Going to the Zoo With DealDash

Summer is a great time to go to the zoo. What’s your favorite animal?

Kids and adults like both enjoy going to the zoo. If you and your kids live in the city or even the suburbs most likely your family hasn’t seen many animals in the wild other than birds, cats, dogs, and maybe the odd rodent. The zoo is an excellent learning experience as well as a ton of fun. My family and I go to the zoo at least once per year, and sometimes more often if we are taking a day trip in the summer to a location that has a different zoo that we haven’t visited yet.

Did you know that the word “zoo” is short for “zoology?” Zoology is the study of animals. There are currently over 1,000 large animal collections open to the public, and about 80% of them are located in major cities. Did you know that the first zoo was started in 1794?! The first zoo was called the Ménagerie du Jardin des Plantes. It was founded in Paris in 1794. The United States didn’t get its first official zoo until 1860, it was in New York and it was called the Central Park Zoo.

One of my kid’s favorite thing to do at the zoo we normally go to is go into the Petting Zoo section and play with the baby goats, ducks, and pigs. It’s really a great experience for kids like them who live in the suburbs. It can also be nice for adults who grew up around animals such as myself.

If you’re going to spend a day at the zoo you will need some supplies. DealDash can help with that. If you are going with kids age 3 or younger I would strongly suggest bringing a stroller. Even kids who are 2 and 3 and walk just fine on their own can get tired little legs at the end of the day – and trust me, you don’t want to have to carry them. You can find some great strollers on DealDash at this link here. I would also suggest bringing a hat, sun umbrella, and definitely some bottled water. You can get Target, Wal*Mart, K-Mart, and Sears gift cards on DealDash. If you’d like to try to bid on a gift card and save some money on those items just click here.

It’s looking like a beautiful weekend coming up. Set your BidBuddies for the auctions you are interested in, and get out there into the sunshine. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!

Making It a “Steak” Out on DealDash

Most people love a nice, juicy steak. However, when you go to the meat department it can be a little confusing which cut to buy.

Grilling a delicious steak can be a lot of fun, and it always makes a wonderful dinner. However, just picking up whatever cut of meat is on sale and throwing it on the grill probably isn’t the best way to go if you are looking for optimum taste. A lot of cuts of steak look similar, but they are meant to be cooked in different ways. I’ll give you a quick primer below on what you should be thinking about before you make your meat purchase.

  •   Flat-Iron Steak – The flat-iron is flavorful, tender, and easy to cook. The flat-iron is recommended for people who are inexperienced or a little scared of messing up the steak on the grill. To cook, sear on the grill for about 4 minutes on each side.
  •   Top Sirloin – The top sirloin is a very popular cut of meat. If you’re looking for the tastiest part of the top sirloin, go for the top sirloin cap. To cook, sear on the grill for about 4 to 5 minutes on each side.
  •   Flank Steak – The flank steak is a large cut of lean meat. Make sure you cut off the silver skin before cooking. To cook, make sure your grill is extremely hot and sear it quickly on both sides.
  •   Round Steak – The round is made up of the top round, bottom round, eye round, and the sirloin tip. All of these cuts of meat are made differently for various recipes. Many of them make good roast beef—specifically, the sirloin tip and bottom round. London broil is typically made with top round. To cook the London broil simply sear it for about 5 minutes on each side.
  •   Filet Mignon – The filet is extremely tender and usually the most sought after steak out of all of the cuts that I have mentioned. To cook give it a quick sear on both sides, then let it rest for a few minutes before serving.

Weber Spirit E-210 2-Burner LP Gas Grill, Black

DealDash also has a great selection of grilling accessories. If you need a new grill or accessories, be sure to click this link here and it will take you to see the grilling items.
