DealDash Kids: Still Time for Summer Camp

DealDash

We are deep into summer, but there are new summer camps starting every week. It’s not too late! Here are some reasons why your child might enjoy a week of camp before school starts.

With so much to do over the summer, why should your child consider summer camp? There are actually many great reasons for your child to consider this opportunity including the following reasons, from DealDash.

Learn New Skills

Your child will learn many new skills. You can send them to a theater camp or cooking camp or sport camp – the possibilities are really endless here. Personally, when I was a kid, I went to computer camp. No matter which camp you choose, it will put them into a position to learn something new while having some fun along the way. Many of these specialized camps are only one or two weeks long, so you still have time to at least get a week in of camp before school starts.

Make New Friends

Your child will also have the chance to make new friends. You will give them the chance for meeting kids around their age that have similar interests. They will be able to keep in touch with their new friends after camp through letters and email. Summer camp is a wonderful way to make some lifetime friends. I actually know a married couple in their 30’s who met at summer camp as children! What are the odds?

No More “I’m Borrrrred!” at Home

Another great benefit to summer camp is that they are already being entertained at the camp. You do not have to worry about getting your child in additional activities. Your child won’t be bored at home while you are at work or having them fight with their siblings. You will be able to rest easy knowing that your child is safe and enjoying their time at camp.

Leave it to the Staff

You will also find that the staff at summer camp are extremely good role models. They would definitely be people that you would feel great about your kids looking up to them. So if you are looking to make sure that you kids are supervised by some wonderful people you should have your child consider going to summer camp. If your kids go to the same camp next year there is a good chance that at least a few of the same staff will be working.

Thanks for Reading

These are really just a few of the great reasons that your child should consider summer camp. With all the fun and learning that they can do it would be a wonderful opportunity for them to take advantage of for the summer. Entertaining your kids during the summer is an easy task when you send them to camp!

DealDash: Get Your Kids Involved with Yard Work

DealDash

Everyone needs to help around the house, including kids. Here are some tips and tricks to get your kids involved with the yard work.

With summertime in full swing, you’re likely looking for ways to get your children active with yard work.  There are many different ways you can get kids of all ages active in helping you get the yard work including some of the following, from DealDash.

Gardens are Fun

You can decide to plant a small garden.  Kids love the opportunity to get involved with a garden. You can decide either plant flowers and vegetables are maybe some of both. Your children will have a fun time helping to the yard to help keep your garden in great shape. You could even help them do something fun like plant a fairy garden.

Are They Old Enough to Mow?

If they’re a certain age where they’re responsible enough to handle the lawnmower you should teach them how to mow the lawn.  You will be able to have them take care of this job so you can focus on other aspects of yard work. Personally, I started mowing my parent’s lawn when I was around 11 years old. However, I was a very serious and cautious child, so if your child is more on the silly side, then wait until they are older.

Raking Can Be Fun

You could also consider bringing out rakes so that you can take care of getting rid of lawn clippings. This will make your yard look as good as possible.  Your kids will have fun doing work like this to make sure you make the job fun for them.

Make it Age-Appropriate and Fun

You can also have them do things like sweeping your deck and trimming branches. This, of course, is if they are old enough to take care of doing a job like that. You need to be sure that you are giving them age-appropriate jobs to do. And while the work won’t always be fun you should try and make it as fun as possible for your kids. This will encourage them to want to continue to do the yard work… Or at least not resist it too much!

Thanks for Reading

The yard work will not always be fun. However, it is something that kids should learn to do when they’re at an appropriate age. This way when they are adults they will know how to take care of their own home and lawn.

DealDash Kids: Choosing a Baby Name

DealDash

There are many things to consider when choosing your new baby’s name. Here are some ideas and tips from DealDash to get your started.

Many parents face a difficult choice when it comes to selecting a name for their baby. You need to take your time and don’t make any quick choices when you are choosing a name for your baby. Here are some tips to consider when selecting a baby name, from DealDash.

Think About Your Last Name

You need to consider your last name when choosing a name for your baby. It is important that the name that you choose sounds good with your last name. Think back to when you were in school, were you teased about your name? Try to avoid that for your new precious baby.

Considering the shortened version of the name that you select for your child. Will it sound good with their last name?

Initials

This brings us to your child’s initials. Additionally, you want to think about your child’s initials when you are selecting your child’s name. You don’t want it to end up sounding like something unfortunate as that can lead to unwanted attention from kids when your child starts school.

Do Both Parents Agree?

You also need to consider that both your and your spouse need to like the name that you give your child. You should both agree on the name as nothing would be worse than trying to force a name that you like on your spouse. Each parent should be able to veto the other parent’s suggestions.

Common or Unique

Next, you need to consider how unique you want your baby’s name to be. While you likely want to select a unique name you also want to make sure that your child won’t stick out too much with other children so they do not get picked on for their name. If you love a particularly unique name, consider using that for a middle name. This way, if your child prefers to stand out they can use their middle name.

They Won’t Be Little Forever

Lastly, think about your child as they get older. Is their name something that will sound good as they grow up into adulthood? You need to make sure that your child is going to love their name as they get older. Thinking about these will assist you in choosing a name for your child that everyone in your family will love.

Thanks for Reading

This is really the beginning of the things you will need to consider before choosing a name for your new baby. Follow these tips, and you will be able to choose a name that you, your partner, and your baby will love as they get older.

DealDash Self-Motivation for Kids and Adults

dealdash

Encouraging self-motivation in your kids is important. This is a valuable life skill that not everyone has. Read on for tips and ideas from DealDash.

Is your child less than excited about doing their homework?  Or perhaps it’s you that has trouble getting started with your work or chores. If you are having trouble with self-motivation then you can easily pass that down to your children. If you find that you or your child is lacking in self-motivation here are some tips that will help encourage the development of motivation.

Stay Positive, Rewards Work

The first thing that you want to do is stay positive and encourage any movement towards self-motivation.  You need to appreciate any effort that your child makes so hopefully you can turn that into even bigger efforts in the future.  And by staying positive you’ll be helping to encourage them.

As for yourself, if you see that you are making progress then there’s nothing wrong with giving yourself a little treat to reward yourself. DealDash has some amazing luxury treats that you’ll want to check out. From candles to jewelry, DealDash is there for you when you want to treat yourself.

Don’t Ignore Failure

You also need to not ignore failures.  Make sure to remind yourself and to teach your kids that it’s OK not to do well at things all the time.  Again this comes around to staying positive so that your child will hopefully adopt a positive attitude of self-motivation for things that they will do in the future. When you or your child has a failure you should acknowledge it and move on. There’s no sense in dwelling on the mistake, look towards the future.

Do Things Your Own Way

Sometimes what seems like a lack of motivation can just be the fear of making a mistake. If you or your child needs a little extra help then try to adopt a learning style that will help with motivation.  For example, if you or your child is a visual learner and like to do things like baking you can help them learn things like volume and measurements. This will be in a fun way that doesn’t seem like a troublesome math lesson.

Build Self-Esteem

While you’re doing all of this you also want to remember to work on your self-esteem. If your child is the one with the trouble, then helping them build their self esteem will go far in making sure that they develop a healthy attitude and self-motivation.  You want to congratulate them on their victories and help them work through on their failures. This will help them to build self -esteem and hopefully been more motivated in the future.

Thanks for Reading

Building self-motivation in yourself or your child can seem like a difficult task. However, it is an important lesson to learn so you want to be there to help teach it to them.

Again you just have to wrap the rope or string around the can while hot gluing it together. You can make a lot of different looks depending on the type of string or rope that you are using.

Make a Nautical Trash Can

If you are looking to add some interest to the trash cans around your home you can wrap rope around them. This will give them a cool nautical feel. You would follow the same steps as you would doing this with a can.

Macrame is Making a Comeback

Another rather simple craft that you can do with rope and string is called macrame. Macrame is the process of making knots in order to make things like pot holders. You and your children can even make bracelets using thin string. You have a lot of choices with this craft and you can find a lot of patterns on the internet.

Your Local Thrift Store

Depending on the size of your town or city, you may have a lot of options for thrift stores. When you think of a thrift store your mind might immediately think of a big national company. However, if you check online you can probably find many smaller thrift stores close to you. One of the benefits of getting used baby clothing at a local store is no shipping, of course. Another big benefit of going to a smaller, locally owned store is that the prices tend to be cheaper.

You’ll find there are good and bad points to all options for buying baby clothes that have been used before.  You just have to figure out which option works best for you and then look for the very best deal that you can get.

DealDash Kids: Why Babies Cry

DealDash

Babies are so cute and sweet, but they tend to cry a lot. Here are some tips from DealDash to try to figure out what’s bothering your baby.

If you are a new mother (or father) your baby crying can be a very confusing thing.  You should remember that all babies cry as it is their way of communicating with the world.  Here are some reasons why your baby’s crying and what you can do to help them feel better again, from DealDash.

They’re Hungry

One of the most common reasons that a baby is because they’re hungry. There’s a simple solution to take care of this kind of crying. All you need to do is feed your baby, and as they get full they will soon calm down and stop crying. This is the first line of defense when it comes to why your baby is crying.

They’re Uncomfortable

And other big reason why babies cry is because they’re uncomfortable about something. Perhaps they’re too hot or too cold? Maybe they needed a diaper change? You want to make sure to check their diaper to make sure that they don’t need it changed.

Remember that healthcare professionals generally recommend that your baby has one more layer of clothing than you do.  For example, if you’re wearing just a t-shirt then your baby might need a t-shirt and an undershirt or a t-shirt and a sweatshirt.

They’re Tired

Sometimes babies will start crying if they need a nap.  They can simply be overly tired and need you to comfort them by rocking them for example.  Taking the time to help them come down to be able to take a nap will definitely help them to stop crying.

They’re Scared

There are quite a few things that can scare a baby. They are new to this world and don’t understand loud noises like the vacuum or a truck outside. They also can be afraid of new people, animals, and even the dark. These types of cries just need a little comforting from Mom or Dad.

Thanks for Reading

As you can see there are many reasons why babies cry.  You just need to take the time to determine what is going wrong and help your baby be comfortable once again.

DealDash Kid-Friendly Vegetables

DealDash

If you want your kids to eat more veggies it can take a little work. Here are some tips from DealDash to get you started.

Every parent wants thire kids to be healthy, but getting them to do things like eat more vegetables can be a tough task. Here are some tips that will get your kids eating more vegetables so that they will develop much healthier habits, from DealDash.

Let Them Help

You can involve your child in meal planning and preparation. This is a great way to get their input on what vegetables that they like and which ones they may need some encouragement trying. Kids might also find that after helping prepare the veggies they have more of an incentive to try them. Another great reason to get your kids involved with meal planning is that they don’t feel forced to try the vegetables that you want them to eat. My daughter loves to help me prepare veggies by washing them for me. She really feels like part of the team when she assists in preparing the veggies for dinner.

Farmer’s Market Samples

Taking your kids to a farmer’s market is another way to encourage your kids to eat more vegetables. Many times there are samples offered that your kids can try and it again gives them the chance to pick and choose what vegetables that they would like to eat. With all the fun colors of vegetables, it is a really fun way to get your kids excited about eating better.

This is good for you as well because sometimes they have fruits and vegetables that aren’t sold in your regular supermarket. Many times I have been hesitant about purchasing a new fruit or veggie at the supermarket. However, after having a sample at the farmer’s market it makes it an easy decision.

Bring on the Sauces

If your child is still hesitant about eating vegetables you can serve them with some kid-friendly dips or sauces. This a fantastic way to get them to try a vegetable that they might have passed up before. Just be sure that they are not eating more dip or sauce than vegetables.

One of my daughter’s favorites is a veggie dip that is made with two simple ingredients. You just need a packet of ranch dry seasoning and a tub of plain greek yogurt. It’s much healthier than buying a pre-made ranch dressing or onion dip that’s made for chips. Another great dip for veggies is hummus. They even have new varieties of hummus that are chocolate and caramel flavor! These would be great to spread on apples or bananas.

Be a Good Example

Another great way to get kids to eat more vegetables is to lead by example. If they see their parents eating more vegetables they will be more likely to start trying and eating them as well. If you avoid eating vegetables your kids will think that they can as well. Personally, I am not a fan of many different types of vegetables. However, I make sure that I cook at least one veggie side per night at dinner as well as have salads available. One veggie that the entire family can agree on is asparagus!

Thanks for Reading

Getting your kids to eat more vegetables may seem like an impossible task however with a little work you will have them making healthy choices in no time.

Creativity is a wonderful trait to possess. Help your kids get started with these hints and tips from DealDash.

Many parents wonder how they can instill creativity in their child.  They want to make life more exciting and fun for their child. It will be fun for both you and your kids. Here are some tips for encouraging creativity in your child’s life, from DealDash.

The Basics – Coloring Pictures

The first thing you can do is encourage them to color pictures.  You can get them a bunch of crayons and coloring books and let them have a fun time coloring different pictures that they like.  Don’t worry if they don’t stay in the lines as you want to focus more on them enjoying using the different colors to create a picture. You will see that the more often that they color they will get better at being neat and tidy and staying in the lines.

Clay Can Be Fun

You can also buy them some modeling clay and let them play with it. You can show them how to create different things with the clay and let their imaginations run wild.  Modeling clay is something that is very easy to work with so they can start over again as many times as they like to create different things.

Painting – Messy But Fun

Painting is another thing that you can do with your child to help encourage their creativity.  You can start with something as simple as finger painting or teach them something more complex like watercolor painting, again it is a great way for helping their imaginations develop.

Paper Craft is Fun and Inexpensive

You could also take printer paper and teach them how to do things like building a paper airplane or something more complex like origami.  Showing them how to make something creative out of something so simple is a great way to help foster creativity in your child.

Get Creative in the Kitchen

Having them get creative with food is another thing that you can do to help foster creativity in your child.  You could help them whip up a batch of interesting flavored cupcakes, try different toppings on pancakes or number of different things where they have to put the imagination to work.

DealDash Kids: Find the Best High Chair

Fisher-Price Deluxe Space Saver High Chair

A high chair is something that I always advise new parents to purchase. Here are some tips from DealDash to get the best one for your child.

When you feel like your baby is ready to start joining you at the table for meals you need to look into purchasing a high chair for them. So what do you need to look for when you are in the market for a high chair? Read on for these tips from DealDash.

Check for Safety Features

You are going to need to look for a high chair that has proper safety features. Your baby will not always be happy to be sitting in the high chair so you need to know that they are safe while they are sitting in it. So when you are purchasing a high chair you need to make sure that it has a safety belt on it so your baby will be secure. You also need to make sure that it has a stable base so that it doesn’t tip over when your baby is sitting in it.

How Comfy Will Baby Be?

The level of comfort in a high chair is also something that you need to be concerned about. You have to be certain that your child will be comfortable sitting in the high chair so be sure that the high chair comes with a padded cover. Most covers are machine washable so you do not have to worry about the mess.

Is it Easy to Clean?

How easy the chair is to clean in another factor in choosing the right high chair. If possible you will want to look for a chair with removable covers so that clean-up is simple. This way you don’t have to worry about spending a long time cleaning up after your child and you can focus more on getting them clean.

Thanks for Reading

Buying a high chair is a must-have for those with young children. You will have a secure place to feed them and you do not have to worry about feeding them separate from the rest of the family. So keep that in mind when you’re looking for a high chair for your baby.

DealDash Kids: How Kids Can Make Money at Home

DealDash

If your kids need more money than you’re willing to give them for allowance, then it’s time for them to get to work! Here are some ideas from DealDash to get them started.

These days kids don’t want to have a paper route or put up a lemonade stand in order to earn some money. A lot of kids want to be able to earn money from home just like their parents. However, the question is, do we as parents want them working on a computer? Here are some simple ways that kids can earn money from home, from DealDash.

Sell Crafts Online

Do your kids love doing crafts? Do they knit cool scarves or make funky clay pots or even draw cool pictures? They could, then, with your supervision, open an Etsy shop. This would be an excellent way for them to do something that they love while learning about running a business online. All they would need to do is create their art, take pictures of it, list it for sale, and package and send it carefully when an order comes in. There is definitely a learning curve here but it’s a great learning opportunity for kids.

If you have your own Etsy shop you might want to consider letting them sell a few things in your shop before they open their own. This is especially good advice if your children are younger and need more help.

Can They Type?

If you know anyone that might need typing work done and your child is a great typist they can offer to do the typing and formatting of documents for them. The can set a price per 100 or per 1,000 words. If your child is a fast and accurate typist they can make some decent money. There are many “micro job” sites online that let people advertise their skills and have others purchase the jobs. Typing and writing are just a few of the jobs that your kids could do in this area.

Do You Do Direct Sales?

A good deal of direct sales companies are allowing teenagers the chance to sign up with their company to sell their products. This is with parental supervision of course, and it’s even better if the parent is a member of the sales force as well. With the support offered it would give kids who are interested the chance to have their own business working from home. They could sell through parties, person to person and online with a parents help.

Thanks for Reading

If your child is serious about making money from home, you should help them find something that they are really excited about. That excitement should keep them going even if at first making money is slow. And it is also a great way to teach them how to handle money once they start to make some. Consider helping them open up a bank account. They can get an online-only account that doesn’t charge any fees. This will let them keep more of their hard-earned money.

Thanks so much for reading this DealDash article on how your kids can make money online. Don’t forget to check back every day for new articles here. Also read our sister blog, DealDash Tips. We love to hear from our readers, just leave a comment down below.

DealDash Kids: Choosing the Optimal Car Seat

DealDash

A car seat is the most important piece of baby equipment that you will need if you will be using a car. Here are some tips to pick the optimal car seat, from DealDash.

Are you are going to have a baby? One of the most important accessories that you will need to get is, of course, a car seat. But how do you pick out the best car seat for your baby?  Here are some of the car seats available that you can select from for the new addition to your family. Read on for more information from DealDash.

Infant Seats for Newborns and Infants

One type of car seat that you’ll run into is a car seat that can only be used by infants. This type of car seat will come with a base that can be detached and will have a higher limit for height and weight.  There will also be slots for the harness that will help you to be able to change the car seat from a rear facing seat to a front facing seat.  You’ll also find that there are handles on the sides of car seat that can be folded when your child is in the car and will make it easier to carry your baby when they’re not in the car. Some people also refer to this type of car seat as a “baby bucket”. This type of seat is very convenient for the new parents.

Convertible Seat

The next type of car seat that you’ll run into is a car seat that is convertible. Aptly named the convertible car seat. You might find that may not be appropriate for some newborns. If you have a newborn that is smaller than the weight limit listed on this seat you will need to buy a seat with a lower weight limit. You may find that the hospital where you deliver you baby rents these.

The convertible car seat can be used as a car seat that faces the rear for most all newborns. In addition, it converts to a front facing car seat once the baby weighs over 20-25 pounds. Of course, you will want to check your particular car seat to see the weight limits. There are notches in this car seat that you should thread the seat belt through to make sure that your child is secure in this type of car seat. This type of seat can last through the baby stage all the way to preschooler. You would be wise to invest in the best convertible car seat that your budget allows because it will be used for many years.

Booster Seats for Preschool and Beyond

Another type of car seat that you’ll run into is a booster seat.  You’ll find the booster seats come in a wide variety of different types.  You’ll find that even some booster seats are built right into some cars and vans.  Booster seats should be used when sure baby gets to a certain size and weight. They are definitely for when your baby gets older, as in preschool age. You will want to check your own state’s laws on the height and weight that is recommended for a booster seat.

Thanks for Reading

Now you have a good idea as far as what types of car seats are out there. You will have a much easier time finding the best car seat for your baby.  You want to educate yourself as much as possible so you find the perfect car seat for your child so that they will be comfortable and safe riding in your car. DealDash Kids: Choose the Right Stroller

Baby Trend Expedition Jogger Travel System, TropicSince it’s so nice outside now you might consider getting a stroller so you can take your baby or toddler out. Here are some tips and suggestions from DealDash to choose the right one.

When you are a new parent one thing that you will be wanting to purchase is a stroller, and as your baby grows you might need to replace it with a different type. But how do you know which is the best stroller for your baby or toddler? Here are a few tips to helping you select the best stroller for your baby’s unique needs, from DealDash.

Figure Out the Budget

Firstly, you need to consider your budget as you want to stay within your budget when purchasing a stroller. Additionally, you should look at a wide variety of strollers that fall within your budget so that you can get an excellent idea of what is out there.

You can get a very inexpensive umbrella-type stroller from any big box store, but these won’t work for a small baby and they are usually not very sturdy. At the other end of the spectrum, there are strollers that are in excess of $1,000! Thankfully, there are many choices in-between.

Is it Complicated?

An important thing to consider how simple the stroller is to use. You need to make sure that the stroller will be simple to use while you are out and about with your baby. Also, you do not want to have a stroller that is uncomfortable and difficult to use. Pay special attention to how the stroller closes. You might have to close it one-handed at times, so be sure that it’s not too difficult to open and close.

Consider the Terrain

You will also need to consider where you will be using the stroller. For example, will you be using the stroller in the city or will you need it more for hiking in nature with your baby? Consider this carefully as there are different strollers for different terrains.

In addition, can the stroller be folded? Some jogging strollers are not able to be folded. If you want to use the stroller in a different location such as driving to a park, then it’s important that it folds. This means it will be much more simple to transport then if it could not be folded.

Ease of Assembly

Many strollers come in a box and need to be assembled. You also need to think about this when you go to the store or look online. Also, is it easy to understand all of the information provided about the stroller? You need to be able to understand which stroller is going to work the best for the needs of not only your baby but you as well.

Thanks for Reading

Getting a new stroller should be a decision that you choose carefully. Choosing a stroller can be overwhelming but if you take the time to do some research the entire process will go a lot more smoothly.  So keep that in mind when you’re looking for a stroller for your baby.

DealDash Kids: Throw a Fun Classroom Party

DealDash

Now that we’re more than 2/3rds through the school year it’s a common time to have classroom parties. Here are some great tips for throwing a classroom party, from DealDash.

Have you volunteered to help throw a party in your child’s classroom? If you are unsure as to where to start, this article from DealDash can help. It can seem like an overwhelming task at first, but hopefully, these helpful tips will make things a little easier for you. Read on for more information from DealDash.

Communicate with the Teacher

You want to make sure that you are properly communicating with all of the people that will be assisting you with the party. Make it a point to stay in contact with the teacher and classroom paraprofessional, but also any other parent volunteers. You need to make sure that everyone knows exactly what they need to be doing during the party. This way things will go a lot smoother during the party as everyone will know what their jobs are.

Split the Kids into Groups

Make sure to split the kids up into several different groups during the party. This way all of the kids will have a better chance to be able to do each activity that you have planned for the party. If you have all the kids in one big group there will be kids that will not get their turn to try each activity. If they are in several different groups it allows everyone to get their chance. This is also helpful for separating certain children who don’t work well together or distract each other from completing tasks.

Small Prizes Get Big Smiles

You will want to find prizes for everyone participating in the party. You don’t want anyone to feel bad for not getting something at the party so make sure to encourage everyone to give everything a try so they can get a prize. These prizes don’t have to be expensive. Some ideas for small prizes:

  • Stickers
  • Temporary tattoos
  • Self-inking stamps
  • Rubber bracelets
  • Plastic rings
  • Candy (Make sure that they are nut-free in case of allergies)

Snacks and Treats

If you have snacks or treats for the party make sure that you have them when the party is wrapping up. That way you do not have to worry about things getting too messy. Again, make sure that these treats are nut-free. Also, make sure to take lots of pictures during the party so that everyone can remember what a fun time they had at the party.

Thanks for Reading

As you can see there are all kinds of things that you can do to make your classroom party go more smoothly. You should not get too stressed out when you are ready to plan a classroom party. With a little planning you will find that it is actually quite simple to plan a great party that the kids will love.

DealDash Family – Enjoy Your April Vacation!

DealDash

Spring is here and it’s almost time for April vacation! What will you and your family do with your week off of school?

Ah, spring. The time of sun, rain, and allergies. However, with all of these things comes another great positive – April vacation! My kids love April vacation, and I bet your kids and grandkids do, too. What will you do with your week off of school? Let DealDash help you figure it out. Spring has so much potential for the activities you can do with your family outside, enjoying the beautiful warmth after three long months of cold. How do we best enjoy this wonderful time of year? We just need a little imagination and some spare time. But hey, that’s what spring break is for, right?

Pick Up a Frisbee

Some of the most enjoyable Springtime moments come from time outdoors with your family. April vacation is the perfect time to learn a new skill – why not how to throw a frisbee? Your kids will love tossing around a frisbee with you. Not only is it fun it’s also healthy for your body and your coordination.

Baseball or Softball

If your kids are a bit older, then April vacation is the perfect time to play some baseball or softball with them. You don’t need a field and full teams of nine people each for a friendly game. See if the neighbor kids want to join in, and get pitching!

Keep the Electronic Devices Off

Try to turn off the television, video games, and tablets for all of April vacation. This is the perfect time for getting outside, getting some sun, and burning off that energy from the long winter. It’s known that an object in motion tends to stay in motion – so let’s get that motion started and keep those devices off. Otherwise, your kids are just going to waste away the beautiful days in front of the TV.

If Your Kids Are Less Athletic

If your kids aren’t very athletic, no problem. We all have our own lifestyles and preferences. April vacation is a wonderful time to get your preparations for the garden started. My 6-year-old daughter isn’t much for sports, but she loves to be outside and helping with the garden.

Another fun thing to do to pass the time is hunting neat rocks in the creek or park and painting them. There is actually an article here on DealDashReviewed.com that explains how to do that. Just click here and read all about it.

Finally, another fun thing to do with your time would be building and painting a birdhouse with your kids. We did this last year and it was so much fun. If you’re handy you can build your own, but we got ours as a kit that simply needed to be assembled and painted.

Thanks for Reading

April vacation can be a lot of fun. I hope this article has given you some ideas on how to keep your kids busy.  These activities are easy and very fun for your kids to do. Keep the chorus of “I’m booorrrd!!!” to a minimum this April by using the tips in this article.

DealDash Helps Your Teen Live Healthily at College

DealDash

Do you have a teen or young adult in college? It can be hard to keep a healthy lifestyle while in college. Here are some tips from DealDash to help you help your child.

When your child goes off to college it can be difficult for them to keep fit. Whether it is running to class or to a job they may find little time to make sure that they stay healthy. Here are several things that you can suggest they do to stay fit while you are in college, from DealDash.

Water is #1

You want to make sure that they are drinking plenty of water. Everyone needs to keep hydrated so that they will be feeling at their best. It would be best if they could trade out sodas for water and tea. They will find that they look and feel a lot better than if they allowed themselves to become dehydrated.

No Skipping Breakfast

Try to be sure that they don’t make a habit of skipping breakfast. This really is the most important meal of the day. Tell them that if they skip this meal they will end up feeling hungry during the day. When they finally do get a chance to eat they will likely end up overeating foods that are not healthy. A way that you could help them with this problem is to purchase some extremely easy breakfast foods they can keep in their dorm. Things like granola bars, power bars, microwave oatmeal cups, and things of that nature are easy to grab and go.

Try Not to Go Out Frequently

I know that as a parent you will be a fan of this suggestion – they should stay away from going out as much as possible. Of course, you don’t want them to become a social recluse, there are plenty of things that they can do in their dorm. They can stay in an do something with friends such as watch movies, play video games, or even board games. By not going out very much they can avoid overeating and indulging in other things like alcohol too often. Staying in with friends instead can be fun and you can also plan healthy snacks. This way they can enjoy a night in without overindulging.

Sports and Fitness

There are lots of opportunities to participate in sports in college, from actually being on a sports team to pick-up games of basketball, rounds of bowling or ice skating, or even just playing a little frisbee between class. Doing these sports, or simply some fitness activities in their day is an extremely smart thing to do if they want to stay fit while in college. If you can encourage your child to make the time to get exercise they will not only be staying fit they’ll also be making new friends as well. It may take some work for them to get into a routine but try to encourage them so that they can stay fit and healthy.

Thanks for Reading

There are so many good reasons out there as to why you should encourage your child to stay fit in college. A great way to help them along the path of fitness would be to get them some new fitness gear. The good news for you is DealDash has plenty of sports and fitness equipment for auction.

Remember, kids (especially younger ones) don’t understand that they will feel better after a trip to the doctor. Read this article from DealDash, and learn some handy tricks to get your child more comfortable with visiting the doctor.

Think Positively, Be Upbeat

You need to focus on the positives of going to the doctor. You need to tell your child that doctors are there to help and focus on the fun that can be had. For example, many doctors give out stickers to young patients.  This is a great way to ease their fear over a doctor’s visit. My kids have gotten lots of small prizes from going to the doctor such as coloring books, bouncy balls, and once the dentist gave my daughter a tiny teddy bear.

Please Be Honest

Being honest with your child is another thing that you need to do. You do not want to tell them, for example, that they will not feel pain at the doctor’s office as in reality things like shots can hurt. You need to be upfront and honest about what is going to go on during their visit so that there will be no unwanted surprises.

Offer a Small Bribe

I know that this isn’t the healthiest suggestion, but I always promise my kids a fast food kid’s meal if they don’t cry when they get their shots. This is a big treat since we don’t eat fast food too often, so it usually works. My 6-year-old daughter hasn’t cried for shots since she was three – even when she had an allergic reaction and needed an epi-pen at school. If your kids aren’t big fans of fast food, then try to think of some other “extra special” treat for them that they might not get very often such as ice cream.

Bring a Friend

Don’t have your child go alone. Of course, you will be there with them, but what about taking a special stuffed animal with them as well? It could go really far in easing the fear of a visit to the emergency clinic. Also visits to the dentist or your family’s doctor. It’s very simple to pack along a small stuffed animal and you will be so surprised at how well it can work. After all, stuffed animals were made for hugging!

Choose the Right Doctor

If you are seeking a doctor for your child always be sure to find one that specializes in family medicine. It helps to know that they have a great bedside manner with kids. Getting recommendations as to which doctor to pick for your child is highly suggested. You can ask friends, neighbors, and relatives. You can also ask for suggestions from your child’s school, as well.

Thanks for Reading

Going to the doctor can really seem like a big deal to a small child so anything you can do as the parent that can help them in not being as scared will be much appreciated by both your child and your family’s healthcare provider.

DealDash Kids: Connecting With Your Child

DealDash

Contrary to what you might see on TV, kids don’t need all of the latest gadgets. They need your attention. Here are some tips from DealDash.

When you are a parent you may be looking for ways to really connect with your child. While it seems like they have a great deal of time your child will grow up fast. You will want to make sure that you can connect with your child in a meaningful way. Here are several ways that you can connect with your child today, from DealDash.

Share Breakfast

You should sit down and eat breakfast with them if you are able to do so. Ask them what is going on in school today if it is that time of year. Alternatively, ask them what they have planned for the day if it is summertime. Asking them what is going on in their lives will really help you to connect with your child. Even if you can’t make breakfast with them an everyday thing, try to do it a few times per week.

Share Hobbies

You should also consider getting involved in an activity that your child enjoys such as music or sports. You could teach your child something that you really enjoy, a certain craft for example, or another pastime that you like. It is a great way to spend some quality time together and really connect with each other.

My daughter just joined girl scouts this year. I was a girl scout when I was young and really enjoyed it. I am so happy that I can share that with her. It’s fun to leave “the boys” at home and have some girl time at the meetings. If you are looking for a fun way to connect with your child that doesn’t require any special knowledge or too big of a time commitment (our meetings are twice per month), then give scouts a try!

Read With Them

Reading with your child is another great way to connect with them. You can talk about your child’s book if they happen to be an older child and have a lot of fun immersing yourself in the world of the books if you are reading a book with a younger child. Either way, you are helping your child learn while they are having fun listening to or reading a book. Giving them a love of reading at a young age is a great gift for when they are older.

Just Listen

Take the time to listen to your kids without feeling the need to fix everything is a fantastic way to connect with them. Just empathize with them even if you are not really understanding how they are feeling. It will really make a great connection with your child as they will feel like they are really being heard.

Thanks for Reading

Taking the time to really connect with your child will help to really build a great relationship with them. It is something you can do even if you are a very busy parent as it doesn’t take long at all to take the time to make a connection with your child. This is really just the start of the way that you can connect with your child. Give them a try. No older person has ever said “Wow, I wish that I spent less time with my kids.” Enjoy them while they are little.

DealDash Decorates: Your Child’s Room

dealdash

Babies grow into kids, is it time to re-do the nursery? Let DealDash give you some suggestions.

Did you have every last detail picked out for your child’s room when they were a baby? Are they getting a little too old for the baby theme? Does your child want to have a little more say in how their bedroom is decorated? It just might be time to do a little personalizing to their room. Here are a few simple tips that will help you be able to create a space that both you and your child will be happy with. Read more information below, from DealDash.

Personalize it!

Make use of their name and initials when it comes to adding a personal touch to their bedroom. You can do a great deal of things like get vinyl stickers, drawings, or any number of things to illustrate their name and initials in their bedroom. What child wouldn’t want to walk into their room and see their name all over the place? It really gives them a sense that this is their spot. There are many places online that you can order personalized items for your child.

Bedroom? No, Art Gallery!

Have your little artist decorate. Are you seemingly running out of places to put all of the artwork your little artists create? Well then have them turn their room into their own personal art gallery. You can make sure that you place their artwork in some cool frames and display them all around their room. Again, it is a great way for your child to be able to claim their own space.

If you would like to do a small project with your child for their room, head to the craft store. Pick up some string and mini-clothespins. You can paint the clothespins any colors that your child likes. Next, put them on the string and attach the string to the wall. You can attach any of their works of art to the clothespins.

Make an Accent Wall

If you are not really ready to give up the colors that you picked out for their room when they were an infant, you can let them select a color for an accent wall. Giving them the choice of color for the accent wall leaves the colors that you like while giving them the opportunity to make a personal choice for their room. It’s a win, win situation! Better yet, choose 3 or 4 colors that you think would look nice as an accent wall and let them choose from those colors. It will make both of you happy.

New Decor from DealDash

Now that your child is getting older they might like to pick out some of their own decor from DealDash for you to get them. DealDash has a lot of items that appeal to all age groups such as fun clocks, statues, paintings, and even nightlights if they are still using one.

DealDash Kids: Get Them Presents They Love

DealDash

Your kids are only young once. Get them presents they will love. Here are some tips from DealDash.

With Christmas time rapidly approaching you are going to want to start thinking about presents that your kids are going to actually enjoy. You will need to think hard about this as you want to make sure that you are getting presents for Christmas that will be appreciated. You don’t want to get something that will be just tossed aside. Here are some tips to keep in mind when you want to start your Christmas shopping, from DealDash.

Pay Attention to Their Interests

You are going to really want to pay attention to what your child is interested in when you are thinking about what to get them for Christmas. Think about ways you can connect their interests with a present. For example, if your child likes sports maybe get them tickets to a favorite sporting event. The possibilities here are really endless. Sports equipment for athletic kids, tickets to the ballet for little ballerinas, or maybe even pet for animal lovers.

Quality Time

Spending time with your child is another gift that would be something that they would truly enjoy. You can plan something like a spa day at home with your daughter. Or perhaps a day of cooking or baking with a son who enjoys preparing food. Again the possibilities are only limited by your imagination. So spend some time thinking about some way you could tie spending time with your kids to giving them a Christmas gift.

Make them a Gift

Making your kids a gift for the holidays is something else that you may want to consider. Putting your time and effort into something is often a very appreciated act. You can make them a toy or a craft kit or maybe even a quilt if you are good with a sewing machine. Something homemade teaches your kids to appreciate that not every gift needs to be store bought. This could also tie into “quality time” as well if you make them something to do with you. Some examples could include making them a puzzle, board game, or a craft kit that the two of you can do together.

DealDash Kids: Is it Time for a Phone?

DealDash

Chances are if your child is over the age of 10 they want a cellphone. Here are some tips from DealDash to navigate that conversation.

When you are a parent you have a lot of important choices to make for your children. One very important choice you need to make for your kids is whether or not they are ready for a cell phone. Here are some things to keep in mind when you are trying to make this important choice. Read on for more information from DealDash.

Do They Spend Time After School?

You need to keep into consideration whether or not your child spends a good deal of time without any parental supervision. Do they play after school sports? Are they walking home from school? Any time spent without you supervising them might point to them needing a cell phone of their own. They need to be able to contact you for things like a ride home or if they have some type of emergency.

Are They Mature Enough?

You will also need to consider the level of maturity of your child and if you can have a serious discussion with them about safety on the internet. You need to make sure that your child is mature enough to be able to take care of a cell phone and that they are able to keep themselves safe if they happen to be navigating the internet on their phone. Do they frequently lose things like mittens, hats, or homework? If so, they might not be quite mature enough to be carrying around an expensive electronic.

Does It Work With Your Budget?

Another important thing to consider when trying to decide if your child needs a cell phone is will it fit into your budget? Remember, it’s not just the outlay for the phone, it’s the bill every month. Cell phones are expensive so you need to decide if this is something that your budget can handle each and every month. You could have your child do chores around the house as a way to help pay for their cell phone. It would be a great way to teach them responsibility.

Thanks for Reading

A child having a cell phone is a big decision. However, if you take the time to figure out if they are truly ready for such as responsibility you will be able to make the most informed choice possible. If you find that they don’t really need it, perhaps you could compromise with something that allows them to use fun apps such as an iPad Mini or an iTouch.

DealDash Kids: Planning a Thanksgiving Trip?

DealDash If you’re planning on taking your kids on a road trip to see family this Thanksgiving you need to read this blog. DealDash is here to make your life easier.

Planning a holiday road trip with your kids can be exciting and stressful all at the same time. You want everyone to have fun not only while at your family destination but while in the car too. Here are some things to remember when you want to plan a successful holiday road trip, from DealDash.

Solo and Group Activities

You want to plan activities in the car that you can do together as well as ones that you can do on your own. For instance, you can play guessing games while on the way to your destination. You can also bring things like coloring books and music players with headphones so your kids can keep themselves occupied while during times where you need to really concentrate while driving. If your iPad (or other tablet) only works with WIFI, then be sure to download some books and games that don’t need WIFI for your trip.

Don’t Forget the Snacks

Snacks are another thing that you need to keep into consideration when you are looking to plan a great road trip. Nothing would be worse than hungry kids and nowhere to stop for miles. You need to plan to bring kid-friendly snacks that will keep them satisfied while you are on your way to your destination.

Another fun thing that I like to do with my kids when we are on a road trip is to do “car picnics”. I bring along some snacks and drinks, but instead of eating them as we go down the road we find a place to stop, I open up the hatch of my SUV, and we sit in the back and snack in the fresh air. This doesn’t work in winter, of course, but if the weather stays nice for the next few weeks then this will definitely be something we do on our way to see family for Thanksgiving.

Don’t Lose Patience

You must also remember to be patient while you are on your road trip. Kids of all ages can become restless while in the car. Thus, plan for a few pit stops along the way so that everyone can stretch their legs. That way everyone will be a whole lot happier during the trip.

Maybe the Kids Want to See the Sights

You should also take into account suggestions from your kids about where you should go and what you should see on the way. Getting your kids involved will really get them excited about going on the holiday road trip. They will have much more fun if their thoughts and suggestions are heard.

For example, there are lots of fun shops on the way to Grandma’s house that my kids like to visit. If we can leave early enough and make good time on the road I don’t mind stopping for a little while so the kids can shop. It makes them much better riding companions on the way if they know they have to behave so I will stop so they can do a little shopping.

Thanks for Reading

Thank you for taking the time to read this new DealDash Reviewed blog on taking a holiday road trip. A road trip with a child (or children) can be stressful. However, if you spend some time planning it will make things go much more smoothly.

Get Your Kids Outdoors with DealDash!

DealDash

There’s still time to spend time outdoors with your kids. Take them out today and have fun with these tips from DealDash.

With working and playing with technology so prevalent in today’s society, parents are often left with the problem of how to get their kids outdoors. Here are some of the amazing benefits to getting your child disconnected from their electronics and enjoying some time outside, from DealDash.

It Will Help Their Mental State

Your child’s mental health will benefit from them getting some outside time. Being outdoors really has a calming effect on the mind and body making it the perfect solution for anyone that needs to take some time to get rid of the stress. Everyone’s stress piles up on them during the week, even children. School and friendships can be difficult to navigate sometimes.

Of Course it Will Help Their Physical Health

It will also benefit your child’s physical health to get them outside. You can have them ride a bike or play a game with them outside, the possibilities are really endless. You can also enjoy some nice family time by exploring a hiking trail or any number of outdoor activities. Even camping can be done at this time of the year, depending on where you live. Warm days and chilly nights around the campfire are the things that great family memories are made of.

It’s Also Educational

Being outdoors is an educational experience for your kids. You can help them learn a real appreciation for the earth by getting them outside and doing things like planting trees or even managing a garden. Learning an appreciation for the outdoors when they’re young will help them grow into more responsible adults when it comes to maintaining the environment. Also, it will be very beneficial for them later in life if they already know how to maintain a garden and grow some of their own food.

Simply put, being outdoors should be a big and very essential part of growing up. Sure it is nice to make sure that your child is up to date with the latest in technology, but being outdoors gains them other useful skills that will aid them as they get older.

For example, they can learn to play well with others on a playground as well as learning what plants are dangerous or not while on a hike. Outdoor time has many more great benefits not mentioned here, so when you are looking for something for your kids to do and the weather is nice, get them outside.

DealDash Helps Your Child be a Social Butterfly

DealDash

Kids need friends. Is your child being social enough? Let DealDash show you some tips to help.

As a parent, you just might be wondering if your child is being social enough. It can be difficult to know how much social interaction is enough for your kids. The great news about your kids being social is that it offers them several health benefits. Help your child do something easy and fun for their health – make some friends! Here are some tips and ideas from DealDash.

Boost Their Immunity

By being social, your child will be able to boost their immune system. According to many psychology experts, if your child is isolated socially it can cause a negative effect on their brain and biology. By having your child become more social you can help them avoid having a weakened immune system. However, please make sure that they are getting their regular vaccinations as well. Just ask your doctor if you’re not sure.

Learn Good Habits

Being a more social child can help them develop great habits. You will see if your child is more social that they will have much better habits with personal care issues for example. Being more social develops so excellent habits that will assist them in being a healthy and happy person. Also, being more social can help break them of bad habits as well, such as being too bossy.

Help Them Feel Better

If your child is more social you will find that it will help them to relieve pain. For example, when you  were a child and got hurt didn’t it feel better to get a kiss and a hug from your mom or dad? I bet is did, and if you were an introvert that didn’t let people know that you were hurt you would likely be dealing with pain that could be alleviated.

Even young kids can be surprisingly empathetic to others. For example, today I told my daughter (age 6) that I had a headache. She brought me over to the couch, told me to lie down, and covered me up with a blanket. It was nice having her realize I needed a break and have her be so accommodating to my needs.

This is really just the start of the health benefits that your child can take advantage of by being social. You will see that be being social your children will be able to lead a very happy and healthy life. It may take some time for your child to become social so you want to ease them into it and not be forceful at all. That way they will find their own way in enjoying a more healthy and happy social life.

DealDash Helps Motivate the Wee Ones

DealDash

Need help motivating your child? Let DealDash help. Read on for more information.

As a parent, you, of course, want your child to do as well as they possibly can. No matter what they happen to be doing! One way that you can work on helping your child to do their best is by making some small changes at home. Here are several simple things that you can do to motivate your child to do their best, from DealDash.

Become More Involved

Firstly, become a more involved parent.  This can often seem hard when you are busy with things like running the household and going to work. You can do things like playing with your kids or even just sitting down to talk with them with nothing distracting you. Simple things like this can really motivate your child to really do great at whatever they put their mind to doing.

Have a Positive Attitude

Next, simply being happy is really going to be huge in making sure that your child is motivated to do their best. You can make them see that you are a happy person even if things might not be going your way all the time. It is actually really healthy to be happy instead of letting stress overtake you. This will help your kids see that having a good attitude is great and give them the inspiration that they need to do just that.

Celebration and Praise

Next, you should celebrate your child’s accomplishments no matter how small that they might be. You want them to know that they are very important and it should be recognized when they do something that they are proud of. No matter if it’s an A on a test, learning how to do multiplication tables, or even just completing their homework without help deserves a big hug and an “I’m so proud of you!”

Thanks for Reading

Finally, changing just a few things at home can really go far in helping your child to become more motivated in anything that they are doing. It will take you no time at all to take out a little time to make these changes. Also, you will be so surprised when you see the results.

DealDash Chooses a Daycare

DealDash

The older kids are back to school. Is it time to find a daycare for the baby? Read on for more information from DealDash.

If you have older children, they probably went back to school last week (or even earlier!). If you’re left with a little one at home, you might start thinking that it’s time to put them into daycare so you can get them socialized, have some free time, or get a part-time job. Are you are looking to find a daycare for your children? You’ll want to make sure that you are finding the best possible facility to take care of your kids. Here are some things to keep in mind when you are looking for a daycare for your children, from DealDash.

Check Those Credentials

The health, safety, and well-being of your little angels is the top priority. You need to look into the credentials of the owner of the facility as well as any staff. You need to make sure that you have safe, dependable, and reliable people caring for your kids while you are away. Asking for a background check would be an excellent idea before deciding on a daycare facility. A high-quality daycare should have no problem providing you with this information.

Take a Tour (Surprise if Possible)

You also want to check out the facility that you will be leaving your children. This is to be sure that you are leaving your children in an environment that will be safe for them to interact with during their time there. The best way to do this is to show up and request a tour of the facilities. You probably won’t be allowed to enter any of the classrooms, but you should be able to see the main office, the bathrooms, etc.

 Do Your Research, Find Reviews

The facility’s reputation is also something that you need to look into. You need to see if other parents are happy with their children being at the daycare. A great reputation generally means that you are going to be happy with the care that your children get there. You will also want to look into how long the daycare has been in operation. This gives you a great idea of how good the business is being run. Simply do an internet search for the name of the provider and “reviews” and you should be able to check out some reviews by other parents.

What’s the Adult to Child Ratio?

Checking out the child to adult ratio is also essential to making sure your children are getting top notch care. You should be sure that there is a good ratio of adults to children so that you know your child will be getting the attention that they deserve. Typically the younger the child the higher ratio of adults is needed.

DealDash Beats Loneliness for At-Home Parents

DealDash

Are you a stay-at-home mom or dad? Here are some tips to beat the loneliness, from DealDash.

When you are a stay at home parent it can get a little lonely. Typically, this is because you are missing out on a lot of adult interaction. The great news is that there are several things that you can do in order to be a little less lonely as a stay-at-home parent.

Limit Your Screen Time

One thing that you can do in order to not feel as lonely is to put your cell phone away. You may be tempted to go on social media to see what your friends are up to but this doesn’t replace actual human interaction. You want to actually pick up the phone and call one of your friends to see what they are up to as it can really help you feel a little less lonely. Not only that, it’s so easy to waste the entire day “Just checking FaceBook for a minute”. This isn’t fair to your kids or to yourself. Call up a friend who has a child and have a playdate!

Keep Up on Your Reading

If you have the opportunity you should read a book. While this may be somewhat difficult with more than one child if you are able to read even for a little bit it is a great way to pass the time. Losing yourself for a while in a good book is a wonderful way to get rid of some of the stress of being on your own while your spouse is at work. If your kids are young enough to still take a nap, use that time to catch up on a good book. If your kids are too old for naps, great! That means that they should be able to play on their own for 30 minutes so you can read for just a little while.

Keep In Touch

You can also choose to keep in touch with your partner during the day. Even if it is just a few short texts you will feel a lot better having that needed contact with your partner. Talk with your partner to see what kind of contact you could have during the time that they are gone so you know that it will work for both of you. Don’t despair if they don’t have time during the workday to talk or text with you, though. Try texting your siblings or a friend instead.

Being a stay-at-home parent can be very lonely sometimes, but if you take the time to think about it there are many things that you can do to feel a little less lonely. This helps you focus more on your kids, working around the house and even taking time out for yourself.

And also make sure that you can help them properly deal with their issue. Here are a few tips to keep in mind when you are trying to help a frustrated child, from DealDash.

Help Them Make a List

You should work with your child to come up with a list of things that they can do to stop being frustrated. This is a wonderful idea because putting their mind to work can help get their mind off what’s bothering them. Also, thinking of what they can do can really be a help in easing their frustration. You can also have them keep the list for another time when they are feeling frustrated so that they know that they have ways to deal with their feelings.

Share Your Frustrations

You should also remember times in your past where you have felt frustrated. You can then share with your child how you felt. This can make it easier for your child to be able to deal with their feelings. It’s helpful if they can see that even their parents get frustrated. Also, that there is a reasonable way to deal with their feelings.

Check Out Their Progress

You should help your child focus on all of the progress that they have made to get rid of their frustration. Let them know that it is ok to be frustrated but there are very constructive ways to deal with your frustration. Tell them this is so you don’t end up doing something negative to deal with frustration. Let them know that it is great that they are able to deal with things on their own but also that it is ok to ask for help as well.

DealDash: Ready for School – Easier Homework Time

DealDash

Summer vacation is coming quickly to an end. Time to start thinking about school and homework, with DealDash.

Let’s face it no one really likes homework. In fact, many kids struggle with home work and getting it done so that they can hand in their assignments on time at school. Now that the first day of school is coming up soon you’ll want to start thinking about homework. Here are a few things that you can do as a parent to help make homework go a little easier for your child, with a little help from DealDash.

Ask the Teacher for Help

You can talk to your child’s teacher. Let them know if your child is having difficulty with homework and check on how they are doing in school. They might have been too shy to ask the teacher for extra help. You just may find that the teacher recommends things like getting a tutor or getting some extra help in school so that they will understand their homework better.

Let Them Take Breaks

If your child has a lot of homework you need to make sure that you allow them to take breaks. A 10-15 minute break after each homework subject is sufficient. You also want to teach them what an appropriate break would be, such as going outside for some fresh air. You might also suggest getting a healthy snack such as fruit as opposed to sitting down in front of the television for their break.

Try to Make it Fun

Trying to make homework fun is another thing that you can do to help make homework easier for your child. For example, there are countless videos on YouTube with different school subjects that make learning a lot of fun. This is a great option especially if your child is more of a visual learner. There are also online games that can teach and entertain at the same time.

Give Them Small Rewards

Be sure to reward your child’s good work. If your child has done well with getting their homework done all week then plan a fun activity that you can do together. This way your child will be excited to learn more and continue to do well with their homework. Younger children, especially, enjoy a visual reminder such as a chart that they can put a sticker on when their homework has been completed.

Thanks for Reading

Homework is not really fun for anyone. However, it does help your child progress academically. If you are able to help your child with their homework completed, school will become a lot easier for your child. You just may find they will do even better than expected in school.

DealDash’s Safety Tips for Teen Drivers

DealDash

Have a teen who is driving or will be soon? Read these safety tips from DealDash.

As a teen approaches their 16th (or 17th, depending on your state) birthday their parents must get ready to prepare another driver for the open road. It can be a scary thought having your child operating a motor vehicle so you need to make sure that they are fully prepared for the privilege of driving a car. Here are three safety tips that will assist in making sure that your child is a safe driver. Read on for more information from DealDash.

No Drunk Driving, Please

You want your child to definitely say no to operating a  motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol. Not only can this result in a deadly car accident it can also result in fines, and jail or prison time. Newly licensed teen drivers are at a big enough risk when they are on the road due to inexperience they do not need to add to the risk but driving under the influence.

Please make a pact (print it up and sign it) saying that you will pick them up anywhere and anytime that they call as long as they do not drive drunk or get into a car with an impaired driver. Also, include that they will not face any punishment if they call you for help. Make sure to periodically check in with them that they remember your agreement.

Keep the Distractions to a Minimum

Distractions such as technology, loud music, or too many people in the car is also something that should be discussed with your teen. Make sure that they keep their focus on  road. Tell them that it will be a while before they can drive with a car full of friends. Also, have them keep their cell phone away in a pocket or purse where it won’t encourage them to use it while the are out driving. Keeping as many distractions as you can away from your teen driver is going to help you keep them safe. In some states, teens are only permitted to drive with adults or one other teen in the car when they first receive their license. Check out the laws in your state for more information.

Seat Belts. Every.Single.Time.

It cannot be stressed enough how important it is for your teen to wear their seat belt while driving a car. Over half of the teens that were killed in car crashes were not wearing their seat belts. You need to keep telling your teen driver how important driving with a seat belt on is so that putting it on will become a habit. Honestly, this good habit begins in childhood. Be sure that you are wearing your seat belt at all times.

My personal rule is that the car stays in “Park” until everyone’s (including the adults) seat belts are fastened. I was so proud of my daughter the other day – we were at the YMCA, it was raining, and we had parked in the back of the parking lot. Before we got out I saw a spot open up by the door, so I started to move the car. My daughter said “MAMA! You need to put your seat belt on before the car moves!” And so I did. That’s one girl that will always put on her seat belt, thankfully.

Thanks For Reading

Having a teenage driver can be a scary prospect. However, if you take the time to prepare them for this privilege you  will have a much simpler time in keeping them safe while they are on the open road.

DealDash Helps Potty Train

DealDash potty trains

If you have a child between 18 and 36 months, you’re probably potty training. Let DealDash give you some tips and hints.

As a parent, you know that you will have to potty train your kids at some point. The truth is, this most likely a dreaded task that you would prefer to skip out on. You know that it’s going to be extra work – the meltdowns, the extra laundry, the messes. You’re even going to have to coordinate bedtime and even play times all around potty time. Let DealDash ease your fears about potty training just a little. It doesn’t have to be a months-long process. I potty trained my daughter at age 2 in just a week.

Let DealDash ease your fears about potty training just a little. It doesn’t have to be a months-long process. I potty trained my daughter at age 2 in just a week. If you have a boy it might take a little longer, boys are known for being a bit slower when it comes to the potty than girls.

3-Day Training Method

There is a potty training secret that I will share with you; it’s called the 3-day potty training method. 3 Days is in the title, and that’s the optimum time, but it might take a bit longer. I would suggest doing this over a long weekend, or if you have a vacation week coming up, do it then.

This isn’t going to sound fun, but hear me out. You have to quarantine yourself to the house for three days. If you’re lucky, potty training will be done on the final day. Say no to grocery shopping, visiting friends, and exercising at the gym. You have to be ready to do this, and be committed to the idea.

All you have to do is to put in all your energy and time into training this essential thing to your child. No magic tricks, just a simple “You have to do your ‘thing’ here.”

Some products will help you and your toddler with this process. For example, there are disposable training pants or diapers available at any big box store like Target, Wal*Mart, or K-Mart. In the beginning stages of potty training, diapers are out, and Pull-Ups are in. You might skip this step altogether, depending on what potty training method you use.

Get a Gift Card From DealDash

Here’s a tip – go on DealDash a week or so before you want to start this process and bid on a gift card above-mentioned stores. You’re going to have to buy this stuff anyway, so why not try to win a gift card to use? If you don’t win, just BIN (Buy It Now) it! When you buy the gift card for face value you’ll get all of your bids back, free shipping, and the clock time that you earned when you were bidding.

You will also need a Big Boy/Big Girl Underwear. It’s best to get underwear with the child’s favorite characters or colors on it. Try Sesame Street, Princesses, or cartoons. You can take your child with you to pick out the underwear s/he wants. You can also check some underwear products online with your child, and then go shopping to find them. It’ll be a fun bonding experience.

Prepare for Accidents

There will be lots of accidents. Don’t worry, that’s a part of the process. For this, you would need disinfecting wipes. You can use them to clean hard surfaces and to clean off public toilet seats before your child is going to use them. I like the scented Clorox wipes, but any of the wipes that say they kill 99.9% of germs will work fine.

Even though potty training kids no longer need diapers, it’s not a bad idea to keep some baby wipes in your house to make sure that if an “accident” happens you have something to clean it. I also find baby wipes to be extremely handy for other messes such as wiping hands, booster seats, and even little faces.

Get a Little Potty for Up and Downstairs

What potty training is going to work without a proper potty seat? I recommend that you to buy at least two potty seats if you have a multi-level home, one for each floor. You can also buy a folding potty seat. You can’t go wrong with these when you’re traveling with your child or when you’re simply not home. They unfold, and you place a grocery store bag on them and let your child do their business, then simply throw the bag away. They are a life-saver on long car trips, even for kids who are 100% potty trained.

Back to the Training

As I said, this is a 3-day method. Keep your house at a nice temperature, and let your child walk around in underwear and a shirt. The idea is that once they have gone to the bathroom in their underwear a few times they will realize the feeling and make haste to get to the potty when they feel it coming.

This method works beautifully for my daughter, and while there were messes during the week that it took, it was totally worth it. Goodbye diapers, and hello savings! You can use the Pull-Ups training pants at night, but be sure to put underwear underneath them so they can realize that they’ve soiled themselves.

DealDash Helps: Is Your Child Listening?

DealDash listening

It’s normal for a child to not be the most attentive when you want them to listen. Here are some ideas from DealDash to help you correct the situation.

As an experienced parent or grandparent, you probably know this already, but the way you talk to your toddler is going to have a significant impact on his learning and ability to listen to you. We should always strive to become good examples for our kids. We should show as well as tell them how they should act and behave. However, we should not ignore the fact that we, as parents, are not perfect.

How Do We Communicate With Children?

Let’s look at the different types of communication that we can have with our kids. There are three different types of communication between a parent and their children, some more effective than others.

Aggressive Communication: This type of communication involves yelling, scolding, and generally speaking down to your child. At first, the children will most likely be scared and comply with you. However, they will eventually become accustomed to this type of communication and learn to tune it out and ignore it. Typically the child will emulate this communication style and use it with their peers and eventually their parents.

Passive communication:  In this type of communication, a parent uses gentle, soft words in a melodic way when their toddler is tantruming or becoming aggressive. However, parents might find it difficult to maintain their calm voice and demeanor if the child’s bad behavior continues too long. Parents are people, too, and when their limits are pushed, they might turn to aggressive communication.

Assertive communication: This is the best and most efficient way to talk to your child on all levels. The assertive type of communication is positive, clear, firm, and confident. It is considered a real skill to show an assertive tone yet still be empathetic to your child when they are having a meltdown.

Using Assertive Communication

When a parent uses assertive communication they will have success if they are confident and calm. Be sure to make eye contact with your child, even if you have to get down to their level. This is how they learn how to be good listeners.

When you are a good listener it shows the ability to respect others. If your child is still a toddler you can repeat your child’s name until they make eye contact. As a parent, you need to try to listen and make eye contact as well. Assertive communication is a two-way street.

Be Empathetic and Listen

Try not to interrupt your child when they are speaking to you, especially when they are telling you a story. Kids tend to lose interest in sharing their feelings with you after they see that you are shifting away from their story to teach them something.

Your conversations with your children should be a priority for you. Take the time and effort to grow the relationship and your communication skills. The more interest that you show when your child is trying to tell you something, the more likely they are to reciprocate.
