DealDash Pets: Holiday Travel with Pets

DealDash

If you’re traveling to see family this holiday season you might want to bring your pets with you. It can be tricky to travel with pets. Here are some tips and tricks from DealDash to help you have an easier time traveling with pets.

If you are prepared for it, taking a trip with your family pets for holiday visits can be an enjoyable experience. However, it can develop into a headache because of the special treatment your animals require. It will also dictate where you will stay if you are planning on staying in a hotel. If you are staying with family or friends, you’ll have to make certain they are comfy with you bringing your pet along. Read on for some helpful tips from DealDash.

Pets in a Hotel

Planning on staying in a hotel? You might be disappointed, as many places will not let animals (other than service animals) stay in their building. When traveling with pets you need to make your preparations in advance.  Ensure you explore all of the details of prior to booking so you won’t lose your money if your pet is not allowed in the hotel you choose. If you are able to find a hotel that allows pets, be prepared to pay a down payment for damages. If your pet doesn’t damage anything you will typically have your money returned to you.

Air Travel with Pets

Never fear, if you are flying, many airlines can make accommodations for your animals. However, to take a trip in the airplane they will need to be protected in a crate or airline approved carrier. This can be traumatizing for animals that are accustomed to strolling around wherever they please. Many pets will need to fly in the freight location of the airplane. Some airline companies, however, permit small pets to be positioned under the seat throughout the trip. Be sure to check with the airline before booking so you know the pet situation and what you will need to do to travel with your pet.

Most, if not all, will charge you a fee to bring your pet with you. Still, this is an excellent method to guarantee your animal is being well looked after while your traveling for your holiday.  If you are bringing your pet with you, especially if they are traveling in the freight section, you should get a direct flight whenever possible.

Pets and the Weather

Pay very close attention to the weather conditions for your holiday travel. It can be difficult for your family pet if there are weather extremes. If you are traveling to somewhere much colder or warmer than your pet is accustomed to, you might want to re-think traveling with your pet. Extreme temperatures can be dangerous for pets. In this case, they might be better off staying in a boarding kennel.

Other Travel Methods

You will most likely not be able to take your pet with you on the bus lines or the train. This is because of their rigorous standards. The only exemption to this guideline is seeing eye dogs as not permitting them aboard is an infraction under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Because of this, many individuals taking a holiday trip with pets make a decision to take their own car or even rent a car for the trip.

Choosing a Kennel Instead

If traveling with a pet sounds like it is too much work, they can stay in a boarding kennel instead. Be sure that your pet is up-to-date on all of their immunizations. If you choose to board your pet be sure to make the reservations well in advance.

DealDash Pets: Selecting a Cat for the Family

DealDash

If your family is ready to get a cat then you’ll need some tips on selecting the right one. Here are some tips from DealDash to help!

So your family is ready for a pet. You and your family have settled on getting a cat, which is an excellent idea. Here are some things to keep in consideration when you are looking for a cat for your family, from DealDash.

Think About the Age

You need to keep in mind the age of your kids as well as the age of the cat that you are looking to get. Younger kids will need extra help in taking care of the cat while older kids can do a lot more on their own. And remember that while kittens are cute there are a great many older cats in need of a good home as well. Either one can be a good choice but think carefully before you make your decision.

Rules are Important

You need to set some rules down before you even get the cat. If it is to be your child’s cat they need to understand that they will be taking most of the responsibility for the cat. You don’t want to end up getting a new pet for your child and be the only one caring for it. However, if your child is younger then you should make the rules according to their age, such as making sure that kitty has fresh water and playing with them for at least 30 minutes per day.

Get Your Supplies – Try DealDash!

You will also want to get the proper supplies for taking care of your new furry friend. You will want to get food, toys and dishes as well as a place for them to rest. You can find automatic litter boxes, bowls, and pet beds. Just click here to check out the pet supplies on DealDash.

Figure Out the Logistics

You will also want to do things like deciding where to put the cat’s litter box. Also, will your child empty it or will you take turns? Having a clear idea of what will happen once you get the cat will help things go a lot more smoothly than if you were just to jump into pet ownership with no plan in place.

Although having a dog or cat is a good option for a pet, small animals are just as exciting.  You have to keep in mind that small animals are a lot of responsibility, so you have to pick the right one. Here are some tips to find the right small pet, from DealDash.

What Kind do You Want?

There are a lot of different small pets to choose from such as pets with fur, feathers, or scales. You should go to the pet store to see which small pet that you will prefer. Do you like reptiles, birds or fish? Some small pets that you can choose from are fish, lizards, hamsters and guinea pigs. Once you make a decision on what type of pet appeals to you the most you should make a list and then go shopping for supplies.

Consider How Much Space You Can Provide

Every pet deserves a big habitat, but some small pets will need more space than others.  Take a good look at the space that you have so you can buy the right habitat for your small pet. You should do your research before you buy a cage. You wouldn’t want to have to have to upgrade when your pet gets bigger.

How Much Time Can You Spend?

In order to pick the right small pet, you have to know how much time can you devote to your animal. If you are a busy person, you should consider having something like a fish or a hermit crab.  If you have a lot of time on your hands you should consider a hamster because they thrive on attention. Knowing how much time that you can devote to your pet will help you make the right choice.

3 Pet Bird Tips from DealDash

DealDash

If you have a pet bird or are planning on getting one then you need to read this article. DealDash gives you 3 tips for owning a pet bird.

Birds are magnificent creatures. They are fun to play with and are (fairly) low maintenance. You don’t have to walk them or run after them, and they can do some amazing tricks. Although birds are low maintenance, it is best to take good care of your bird. A pet bird needs to have a friendly environment. You have probably thought about getting a bird before, but you don’t know how to take care of them. Here are 3 tips to take care of a bird, from DealDash.

Buy a Cage

Buying the right bird cage for your bird is important. Bird cages come in many different sizes, but it is important to get the largest one. You have to make sure that the bird does not easily escape through the gaps, and has plenty of room to stretch. DealDash occasionally has bird cages up for auction. They are high-quality and would make a wonderful home for your new pet.

Keep the Cage and the Bird Clean

A bird is known to naturally clean itself, but adding a bird bath to the cage will not hurt. It is also important to clean out the cage properly. You should clean out the cage every 2 to 4 days, or if the cage is starting to get dirty.

Luckily, modern cages make cleaning a breeze. Take out the food and water dishes and give them a good scrubbing. After that, you just need to change the substrate at the bottom of the cage. You should give the cage a very thorough cleaning occasionally as well, including wiping down each individual bar as well as cleaning and disinfecting all bird toys.

Keep Your Birds Healthy and on a Balanced Diet

You should feed your bird the right food depending on their species.  A lot of pet stores sell bird food based on the species. It is also important to keep your bird healthy by giving them bird toys and watching for any illnesses.

Thanks for Reading

Taking care of a bird is not hard. Giving your birds attention and showing them that you care will help your bird live a long and healthy life. Remember that your bird should always have food and drink, safety, and of course love. These tips will help you take care of your bird with lots of love.

Thanks so much for reading this DealDash article on bird care. Don’t forget to check back every day for new articles here. Also read our sister blog, DealDash Tips. We love to hear from our readers, just leave a comment down below.

DealDash Pets: Help Kids Care for a Puppy

DealDash

If your kids have been begging for a puppy, this is a great time of the year to get one. Here are some handy tips from DealDash to help your kids take care of the new puppy.

Getting a puppy can be a wonderful way to help teach your kids about responsibility. There are lots of things that your kids will need to learn to properly take care of a puppy including the following ways, from DealDash.

Set Up a Place for Puppy

The puppy is going to need a place to stay. You will want to help your kids set up a place the house where the puppy can do things like eat and sleep. This way the puppy will eventually know where to go to relax and get their food and water. Consistency is good for both kids and dogs, so this is an important step in caring for the new puppy.

House Training

You will also want to get your kids on board with helping potty train the puppy. They can assist by cleaning up messes and helping to teach the puppy that it needs to go outside to go to the bathroom. This will help the kids to know that not everything is completely fun when you have a puppy. You’ll have to help younger kids, of course, but older ones should be able to do this with minimal help.

Don’t Forget to Feed Him!

Next, you will want to have your kids help to get your puppy on a feeding schedule. You should have your kids take turns feeding the puppy and getting it water so that the puppy will grow up healthy and happy. Just remind your kids not to overfeed the puppy so you do not have to worry about it becoming overweight and having health issues. You might want to set up a chart to show whose turn it is to feed and water the puppy. They can check it off after they feed and water him so that everyone will know that he does not need any more food.

Exercising and Playing

Playing with the puppy is also something that your kids will want to do. You need to teach your kids not to play too rough with the puppy even though the puppy might be a little rough with them. They need to know that the puppy is still growing and can get hurt easily so when playing everyone needs to be careful.

In addition to playing, you will need to show your kids how to take the puppy for a walk. For younger kids, the “walk” could even just be outside in your backyard. It will teach both child and puppy how to use the leash.

Thanks for Reading

Getting a puppy can be a big responsibility for kids so be sure to teach them all that they need to know so that they can help bring up a happy and healthy puppy.

DealDash

If you’ve been thinking about taking your pet with you on vacation, why not this year? Here are a few great places to vacation with dogs, from DealDash.

Going on vacations is a lot of fun. Sometimes it is good to take your pets with you instead of putting them in doggy hotels or leaving them with someone else. You probably think that there is no way that you can bring your dog on vacation because of places to eat and hotels. That is not the case. There are three top vacation spots that will allow you to take your dog along with you, from DealDash.

Huntington Beach, California

The beach is one of the perfect places to take your dog especially Huntington Beach. Many people take their dogs to Huntington Beach so they can play and explore the area.  Dog owners work hard to keep the beach clean and everything under control for your pet. After your dog is done hanging out at the beach, you can take them to a dog spa that is located at Seacliff Village. If you could ask your dog where he would like to go, I bet he might say “Woof, Huntington Beach, woof!”

Key West, Florida

Key West Florida is a beautiful vacation spot that your dog will love.  The good news is Key West has a dog beach that will be perfect for your animal. They are free to play in the waves or go dog paddling. If you want to go into the water together, you can contact Lazy Kayak and enjoy kayaking together.  Order some food when you are done, and enjoy the scenery with your dog on the terrace. If relaxing is your and your dog’s idea of fun, then I bet you will both love Key West.

Atlanta, Georgia

There are a lot of happy dogs that live in Atlanta which makes it the perfect vacation spot for your dog. The Piedmont Dog Park is the perfect place to take your dog for play time, and exercise. You will also discover Chattahoochee River Park.  After you are playing you should let your dog take a nap while you go out and have a night out on the town. Atlanta, Georgia is an excellent vacation destination that you are sure to give 2 paws up!

Thanks for Reading

I hope these vacation spots have given you some good ideas of where to take your dog for vacation.   You will create a memorable experience for your dog when you choose one of these vacation destinations.

DealDash Pets: Take Your New Pet to the Vet

DealDash

After getting a new pet it’s important to take them for a check-up. Here are some tips for a stress-free first visit.

You just got a new pet, how exciting!! However, reign in that excitement, because it’s very important to take them to the vet when you first get them to make sure that they are healthy. Here are some tips to keep your pet happy and stress-free during that first visit, from DealDash.

Use a Pet Carrier

If your pet is small enough to fit in a pet carrier, such as a puppy, kitten, or cat, then you should bring them in the carrier. When a new pet is riding in your car they can feel very insecure. The pet carrier makes them feel safe and secure. Not only that, you can seatbelt the carrier in so it doesn’t move around during the trip.

In the carrier, you can put a soft blanket or towel as well as a soft toy for them to cuddle or a bone or chew toy for a puppy. If you have a blanket or towel that you have been sleeping on, you should use that one. It will make them feel more safe and secure.

Try Treats

If your pet has a favorite kind of treat, bring a little bag of them along. These treats can be very helpful in keeping your pet happy and calm during the vet visit. Also, it will be a nice bonding experience to give your pet some of their favorite treats after the vet visit is over.

Keep Calm

Animals are very intuitive and can tell when their humans are nervous or upset. When they sense that you are upset it makes them feel upset as well. Dogs and cats can be very empathetic to their humans. So if you have any anxiety about this vet visit, try to keep calm, cool, and collected so your pet doesn’t get upset as well. Put on a brave face even if going to the vet makes you feel nervous. Remember, this is just a check-up, your pet is going to be fine.

Thanks for Reading

Keep all of these things in mind when you are taking your new pet to the vet for the first time. These tips will keep them happy and calm when they are going through a stressful time.

Amazing Gifts for Your Pet from DealDash

Designer Pet Beds

The first place to look for amazing pet gifts is DealDash, of course. DealDash offers the highest quality and most beautiful pet beds around. A pet bed is more than just somewhere for your pet to sleep. It can be a decoration for your home as well. Instead of just a cushion on the floor, why not get a pet bed that compliments your home’s aesthetic as well?

Dog Houses

Now, where I live in Boston, most people keep their dogs inside, especially in the winter. However, I know in more temperate climates, many dogs prefer to be outside a large portion of the day. If you leave your dog outside for more than an hour or so at a time, you should probably have a doghouse outside for him to rest and have some shade. Luckily for you, DealDash has some attractive dog houses that you can bid on in an auction.

New Age Pet Medium Rustic Lodge Dog House

If you’d like to decorate your new dog house, I’ve seen some amazing designs that people have added on to their dog’s house. Check out the picture below for some ideas.

Cat Toys

Cats are the most curious and playful creatures around. Reward their jolly nature with some toys that will enhance their life. Luckily, cat toys tend to be fairly inexpensive – you can get a little jingly ball or a soft mouse toy for around a dollar in just about any store that sells pet supplies. If you want to get a little more creative, though, check out the fun toys that I’ve gotten for my cats.

DealDash These round tracks with a ball and a scratching circle in the middle really keep the cats entertained for a while on their own. They serve a dual purpose, as a toy as well as a scratcher to keep their claws in good shape.

This little butterfly toy is my tiny kitten’s favorite. It’s on a very thin wire, so when it’s turned on it flits and bounces around just like a real butterfly does. It’s so much fun to watch them play with it. The only drawback, though, is that once they pounce on it and “catch” it, the base tips over and requires human intervention to put it back up again. However, this small inconvenience is worth the fun that my two kitties get out of this toy.

Keep all of these things in mind when you are looking to shop for a great gift for your pet. These pet gifts are fun and entertaining for both you and your pet. Do your pet a favor and get them a gift!

DealDash Pets: Welcoming a 2nd Cat

DealDash

If you’ve decided that it’s time to add a second cat to your household it might be more difficult than you thought. Read on for some tips from DealDash.

People often have more than one cat in their household. In fact, it’s actually recommended that you have more than one cat, especially if there isn’t a person home most of the day. Cats can get quite lonely, as they are pack animals. If you got two cats as littermates, great! You don’t have this problem. However, if you got one cat and then decide to add a second one later you might have an adjustment period. Here are some tips and tricks from DealDash to ease the transition.

If Possible, Add a Kitten

If you have a young to middle-aged cat, I suggest that you try to make your newest addition a kitten. Cats typically feel less threatened and inclined to “defend their turf” against a kitten rather than another adult. This is especially true if your cat is a female who has had kittens before.

However, the exemption to this is if you have a senior cat. If your cat is a senior then he is probably in no shape to keep up with a young kitten. In this situation another senior cat might be a better solution. However, if your cat is older and set in his ways he might never accept another cat and just be stressed out with your newest addition.

Don’t Introduce Them Right Away

Many people feel inclined to just bring the new cat home, open up the carrier, and let the cats sort it out for themselves. This really isn’t a good idea, as it can make a very bad impression on your resident cat.

A better way to introduce the two cats would be through a door at first. Have a single room in your house that has a door set up as the new cat’s “room”. Have their litter box, food, bed, and some toys waiting in this room for the new cat when he arrives. Let your cat live in this room for the first day or two. Give your resident cat access to “meet” the new cat through the closed door. After a few days, they should be ready to meet face to face.

Meet at Mealtime

For their first face to face meeting, have it occur during mealtime. Give each cat their own separate bowl of food in the same room but in different corners of the room. This way the cats will be occupied with the food and less likely to get into a fight with their first meeting. This will also help them both associate the other with something nice – mealtime.

Thanks for Reading

Keep all of these things in mind when you are looking to add a second cat to your household. This is so you know you are making the best choice not only for your new cat, but for your resident cat as well.

I hope that you found this DealDash article on adding a second cat to your family helpful. If you have any tips for pets and their owners please share them below in a comment.

DealDash Pets: Time to Get the Kids a Dog?

DealDash

Kids and dogs go together like peanut butter and jelly. But is it time to get your child a dog? Find out down below, from DealDash.

Many parents wonder if it is the right time to introduce a dog into their child’s life. They have plenty of questions that need to be answered before purchasing or adopting a new pet. This is all due to the fact that they want the perfect dog for their child and family situation. Here are some things to keep in mind if you are looking for a dog for your child, from DealDash.

Are They Responsible Enough?

One of the first things that you need to keep in mind when debating on getting a dog for your child is whether or not they are ready. Also, are they responsible enough to help care for a dog? You need to know that your child will simply not get bored with the dog after a few days and want nothing to with the dog. They need to know that being a dog owner is a big commitment.

Honestly, I wasn’t “ready” for a dog until I was well into my teens. I didn’t get my first dog “officially” until I was 19 years old. Before that, my parents always ended up doing the brunt of the dog caring duties.

Does a Dog Fit Into Your Lifestyle?

Next, you need to consider your child’s lifestyle and well as the family’s lifestyle when you are considering a dog.  You need to make sure that your child will have enough time to care for and play with their new dog. If you are a really busy family you also need to keep that in consideration. Do you travel a lot? It could be a problem unless there are some times where you will be able to take your child’s dog with you.

Does a Dog Fit the Budget?

You also need to be able to afford a dog for your child. Dogs can be expensive when you think of the food, toys and even veterinarian bills. You need to be sure having a dog is going to fit into your family budget. Nothing would be worse than to have your child get attached to a dog only to have to get rid of them because you cannot afford them.

Thanks for Reading

Keep all of these things in mind when you are looking to figure out whether or not you should get a dog for your child. This is so you know you are making the best choice not only for your family but the dog as well.

DealDash Pets: Help Your Pet Recover from Surgery

DealDash

Surgery can be tough for you and your pet. Here are some tips to cope, from DealDash.

As a pet owner, it can be hard to see your pet going through surgery.  You may feel helpless, but there is something you can do to help your dog or cat.  When the surgery is over the clinic usually gives you instructions and a wealth of information on how to care for your pet during the recovery process.  Here are some tips to help your dog recover safely from surgery, from DealDash.

Give Your Pet Plenty of Water

Unless your dog or cat has been on constant fluids, your pet needs water periodically.  Once your pet gets home, make sure you give him some refreshing water to quench his thirst. Make sure that your dog or cat does not drink a lot of water at one time, because that can cause him to vomit because of muscle spasms.

Let Your Pet Get His Rest

Sleeping is an imperative part of recovery for your animal. A lot of pets are tired when they first come home.  Make sure that the temperature is just right and that he is warm. It is a good sign when your dog is sleeping because that means that he is not in a lot of pain. The more rest that he gets, the sooner he will feel better. Encourage him to rest up, and don’t let him get too frisky and try to play while he should be sleeping.

Stop Licking the Incision

Many people think that the saliva of a dog has healing properties, but that is not true. Licking the incision can cause bacteria in his mouth and will irritate the cut. Use a dressing to prevent him from licking the wound.  You don’t want him to get sick from the bacteria that are in his wounds. His incision needs the proper time to heal. If you need to call the vet and request an Elizabethan Collar (otherwise known as the “cone of shame”) be sure to do it as soon as you see him irritating his incision. This will help stop the bacteria growth and prevent infection from forming.

Thanks for Reading

Proper care of your dog or cat after surgery is very important.  Remember to call your vet if you notice any unusual behavior or if your pet does not seem like he is well. Simply being there for your pet when he needs you will help the process of recovery from surgery quicker. Remember to take good care of your pet, and he will take good care of you.

I hope that you found this DealDash article on helping your pet recover from surgery helpful. If you have any tips for pets and their owners please share them below in a comment.

DealDash Pets: Giving Puppy a Bath

DealDash

Smell that? I think puppy needs a bath. Here are some tips from DealDash to help.

Taking your puppy to the groomer’s seems like an easy way to give your puppy a bath. However, this is not always the case. Most puppies do not like loud noises or a lot of people around.  Your puppy is small, so it is easier to give your puppy a bath at home. Here are some tips to give your puppy the proper bath, from DealDash.

Put Together All of Your Materials

In order to give your puppy a bath, you have to gather your materials. You can either give your dog a basic bath or a deeper cleaning.  Some materials you would need are a comb, a towel, bucket, brush, sponge, and shampoo. You can also keep some treats on hand to give to your puppy just in case he gets restless. Having all of your supplies on hand will make the process go much more smoothly.

Where to Bathe Puppy

Your puppy is most likely small, so it is best to bathe your puppy in a bathtub. You can also use a sink or plastic tub. Pick a location where you will not have to kneel too much or strain yourself.  If your puppy is prone to falling, it is best to not put him in a sink. You should use a shower instead, or a plastic tub on the floor, or even a kid’s baby pool if you have a larger breed of dog.

Prepare Your Puppy

Puppies are very delicate and can be fearful. You should prepare your puppy for a bath. Speaking to him in a soothing voice and letting him get in the tub with no water will help your dog get used to his surroundings.  It may take a few days or weeks for your puppy to get used to bathing. However, with a lot of patience and repetition, he will eventually become more comfortable.

Thanks for Reading

Bathing your puppy can be stressful, but these tips will help make the process easier. Your puppy has just entered the world, and you should do everything you can to make him feel comfortable.  It takes a while for a puppy to get used to his surroundings, but as long as he knows that he is protected, the process should be much easier.

I hope that you found this DealDash article on bathing your puppy has been helpful. If you have any tips for pets and their owners please comment down below. Pet owners helping other pet owners – it’s a beautiful thing!

DealDash Pets: Have a Successful Vet Visit

DealDash

Taking your pet to the vet can be a daunting task. Here are some tips from DealDash to make it a little easier.

Going to the vet is a standard thing that every pet owner should do.  You can have a hard time going to the vet because you may be worried that something is wrong with your dog, cat, bunny, or bird.   In order to make going to the vet more pleasant, there are some things that you have to do, from DealDash.

Schedule Your Appointment

The first thing you should do is to set up an appointment for your pet. You should pick a day and time when you would be available. Make sure that you have a valid reason for coming into the vet’s office. It doesn’t always have to be a problem when you go to the vet. You can just do a simple checkup.  When you first go to the vet, you will most likely have to fill out some papers, so it is best to get to your appointment early.

Restrain Your Pet

It is normal for your animal to feel uncomfortable when they go to the vet. That is why you should hold or put your dog into a carrier to make them feel comfortable and safe.  Using a leash is not recommended because your dog can easily escape. Most vets will expect you to have your dog in a carrier and not on a leash unless they are too big to fit into a carrier.

Listen to the Doctor

When you take your pet to the vet, it is important to listen to the doctor. Watch what your vet is doing and ask questions if you have any so you can learn about your pet’s current condition. Vets are very friendly, and they are willing to answer all of your questions.

If you vet suggests that your animal needs to take some medication be sure to listen very carefully to the dosage and the way to give it to your pet. Be sure to ask questions if there is something that is unclear to you. It could mean the health of your pet.

Thanks for Reading

Taking your dog to the vet can be overwhelming, but these tips will help make the process easier.  When you listen closely to what the vet says and follow his or her instructions your pet will be happy and healthier.

I hope that you found this DealDash article on taking your pet to the vet helpful. If you have any tips for pets and their owners please share them below in a comment.

DealDash Pets: 3 Surprising Benefits of Pets

DealDash

Pets are great. Here are 3 benefits of having a pet you might not have thought of, from DealDash.

It is a wonderful experience to have a pet, especially when you own a dog. Many people know that owning a dog is a lot of responsibility, but it also has many benefits.  A lot of people don’t know just how important it is to have a pet. Maybe you are thinking about getting a pet, but you don’t know if that is the right decision.  Here are some surprising benefits of having a man’s (or woman’s!) best friend, from DealDash.

You Will Stay Fit

Owning a dog will help you stay fit. You will burn plenty of calories playing with your dog, and walking them.  On those certain days when you want to skip your workout, you will still have to get a little bit. You will need to walk your dog because most likely they will be standing at the door with a leash in their mouth.

Losing weight and staying fit can be easier just by taking care of your dog. You can walk your cat as well if you have a harness. However, cats are not quite as eager to get out and take a walk as a dog would be.

Your Life Will Be Much Easier

Life can sometimes be rough but owning a dog can make it much easier. Studies have shown that dogs can lower your stress level. Simply petting your dog and playing with them can reduce your stress level. Caring for your dog is also a good distraction from worrying about your problems.

Many other pets can also fill this need. Cuddly pets like cats and dogs are the perfect solution. However, even having a hamster, bird, or fish can help lower stress levels, as well.

You Will Know If You Are Sick

Studies have shown that dogs are known to detect cancer.  Many people that own dogs have noticed that their dog sniffs nudges or touch the spots where the cancer is located.  One of the most surprising benefits of owning a dog is that they can alert you to changes in your body.  Make sure you pay attention to your dog so that you will recognize the signs.

Thanks for Reading

I hope I have convinced you that owning a dog or other pet can be a rewarding experience.  These surprising benefits will help you make the right decision about owning a pet or not. Remember to take good care of your pet, and he will take good care of you.

DealDash Pets: 4 Tips for Dog Training

DealDash

Dog training can be tricky. DealDash is here to help you with your pup!

Having a dog is a lot of responsibility, and training a dog can be a complicated process. Some breeds catch on quickly to training and others not so much. It is important to train your dog so he can behave well. An out of control dog can cause a lot of havoc. Here are four easy ways to train your dog, from DealDash.

Tell Doggie Exactly What to Do

Simply telling your dog “No” is not enough when you are training him. Being more specific when a dog does something wrong has a more positive effect. For example, if your dog tends to jump on you or other people, tell him to sit instead of saying no. This will help avoid any confusion. Just like young children, dogs respond better to positive commands rather than negative attention.

Be Consistent With Pup

Part of training your dog is being consistent with him. Your dog will not obey your commands if you don’t remind him.  Make sure that all of your family members are on the same page when it comes to training your dog.  You don’t want one family member giving him the wrong command and you give him a different one. Repetition is key. If your family members need reminding on what the commands are, how do you think your dog feels?

Be Realistic With Doggo

It is going to take some time for your dog to change its behavior. Curbing normal dog behaviors such as jumping, barking, and digging will take some time.  You also have to take into consideration how long your dog has been doing the same thing such as jumping on people.  The more patience you have, the easier it will be to train your dog. It is never too late to change a dog’s behavior. It just might take a little extra time and patience.

Give Your Dog Treats

Giving your dog treats can help reinforce his good behavior.  You probably don’t give your dog treats all the time, so rewarding him when he is good will help your dog learn better behaviors.  Just remember that your dog should only get the treat for good behavior, not the other way around. Be sure that the treats are something extra yummy – who wants a dry biscuit when you could have a meaty treat?

Thanks for Reading

It will take some time to train your dog and to get him to listen.  Although it may be a stressful process, your dog’s behavior will change for the better if you stay patient, kind, and persistent.

DealDash Pets: The Benefits of Ownership

DealDash

Pet ownership can be very rewarding. DealDash wants to tell you all about it.

Life can be hard sometimes. With this in mind, sometimes all you need is a little comfort. Owning a pet can help improve your life for the better.  Pets are not only fun to own, but they can also help you emotionally and physically. There are many benefits of having a pet. If you’ve ever wanted a pet here are 3 practical benefits of having a pet, from DealDash.

Helps Your Mood

Owning a pet can improve your mood. Have you ever felt down and lonely? Having a pet can help you feel better and loved.  Studies have shown that people who have pets are less stressed and have more laughter.  When you come home, you always have someone greeting you at the door, and you will never feel alone again if you have a pet.

Socialization

Having a pet can help increase your social skills. Some people do not like to socialize.  When you take your dog for a walk, there will be other people outside walking their dogs, and it is a good conversation starter.  Going for walks and chatting with people in the neighborhood will help a person that is less social become more open to meeting new people.

Exercise

Exercising may seem like a chore for some people, but when you have a pet, you can easily squeeze a workout in. Owning a pet can help your overall fitness health.  Walking your dog every day or playing fetch will help keep you in shape. When you get into the habit of walking your dog, you will see an improvement in your overall health, and it is an easy way to stay active.

Other pets might not help you be as active as a dog, but you can also burn calories while playing with your cat, changing its litterbox, doing a water change on your fish tank, or cleaning a small animal’s cage.

Thanks for Reading

If you have been contemplating on getting a pet, I hope these tips will help you make the right decision. Having a pet will bring more excitement and happiness to your life. Just remember to take good care of them and they will take care of you.

DealDash Pets: Curb Your Dog’s Aggressive Behavior

DealDash

You love your dog, but how is his behavior? Here is more information to curb dog aggression from DealDash.

Dogs are a man’s best friend, but they can also misbehave. Aggression in dogs is very common, and it can be hard to deal with. It can cause a dog to be harmful and out of control. There are some ways to get a handle on an aggressive dog.  It may seem difficult at first, but it is easier than you think.  Here are some ways to turn an aggressive dog into a calmer pet, from DealDash.

Right from Wrong

Teaching your dog right from wrong is the first step to take to stop aggression. When your dog is bad, you should give him a consequence such as putting him in his crate. Biting, gnawing, and barking loudly should be classified as bad behavior. When your dog is a good boy and behaving, it is good to reward him with a treat.  That will let him know that he is behaving well.  Learning right from wrong can take some time but, with patience, your dog will understand.

You have to Build Trust

Building trust is important when it comes to owning a dog. Dogs don’t know if you are going to hurt them or not. When you meet your dog for the first time, it is best to meet them at eye level and pet them gently. Make sure you stay calm because you don’t want to upset your dog.  Taking your dog for a walk can also build trust because they will feel safe knowing that you are there.

Every time you feed him it builds trust, every time you pet him it builds trust. Eventually, you will have a huge “trust” bank built up with your dog. Once the trust bank is full he will be more likely to behave for you. There are things that cause withdrawals from the trust bank such as yelling at him or swatting him with a newspaper. Please avoid doing these things with your pup.

Owning a dog can be difficult sometimes, but as much as they frustrate you, they still need love.  Building trust and teaching your dog right from wrong will make a difference in your dog’s behavior.  Just be patient with him because some dogs take longer to learn instructions more than others.  Repetition will make the process quicker, and your worries about your dog’s aggressive behavior will go away.

DealDash Pets: Getting a Puppy or Kitten

DealDash

Getting a new puppy or kitten can be fun, but also a lot of work! Here are some tips from DealDash for you and your new pet.

When you get a new puppy or kitten, it is an exciting experience.  It is like being a parent for the first time. You will nurture them, and you will also constantly be taking pictures and admiring every cute thing he does. Although you are excited about bringing a puppy or kitten home, your new pet has to get used to the environment.  There are some ways to make that process easier, from DealDash.

Be Prepared

It is important to have all of the puppy or kitten essentials such as food, water, and a food dish; treats, a collar, toys, grooming supplies, kitty litter, a leash, bed, and a crate. You have to make sure you check with the breeder or shelter to see what type of food your puppy or kitten will eat. Also, ask what kind of kitty litter the kitten has been using. It can make the litter box training go more smoothly. When you prepare for your pet’s arrival, the process of getting your puppy or kitten used to the environment is easier.

Night Time

Puppies usually whimper or cry for their mother, and kittens tend to meow or even yowl. It is best to leave the crate or bed next to your bed so you can be there for your new baby. If your dog is crying, you should pet him through the crate and not take him out.  A warm bottle may help a puppy. Just put it under the bedding, and it can bring him comfort. Kittens are a little bit of a different story, they tend to find their own special sleeping spot which might be away from you, or even ON you!

Routines

Keeping your pet on a routine can help the process of adjusting to your home. Pick a certain time when you will walk him, feed him, and play with him.  He will expect the same thing to happen every day and your puppy or kitten will be comforted knowing that you are there for them. Just like small children, animals crave a routine. It makes them feel safe.

It may take some time, but your puppy or kitten will eventually get used to your home.  Just be patient with your puppy or kitten and let them know that they are safe and loved and your new pet will adjust to your home in no time.

DealDash Pets: Is My Pet Sick?

DealDash

We all love our pets. Sometimes it’s difficult to know when they are sick. Here is more information from DealDash.

Taking care of your pet is a lot of responsibility. Pets cannot speak so sometimes it is hard to understand what they need. Once in a while, your dog or cat will become ill and will need some treatment.  It can be hard to tell when your cat or dog is sick. Here are 3 signs that you should look for, from DealDash

Diarrhea or Vomiting

It is normal for a pet to vomit once in a while. However, if they vomit several times a day and also lack energy, you need to contact your veterinarian.  Vomiting or diarrhea can be a serious sign of other illnesses such as stomach issues and parasites. Blood in the stool is also a warning sign that your dog needs to see a vet.

Lack of Appetite

Monitoring your pets eating habits is very important. If you notice that your pet is not eating normally, you should try to figure out what is wrong with him. Dogs and cats can stop eating for a number of reasons such as stress, fever, pain, or illness. If the lack of appetite last more than 24 hours it is time to see a vet. Of course, if your pet is known to be a picky eater, then this might not apply to you. Try feeding them their favorite food, even if it’s a treat, and see if they are interested.

Changes in Bathroom Habits

When your pet is using the bathroom more, it can be a sign of diabetes. Increased urination can also be a sign of a liver or kidney issue.  Some of the signs are wetting inside the house or using the bathroom in the middle of the night. You may realize that you are filling up the water bowl more often. If you notice any of these signs, you should contact your vet immediately for a diagnosis.

There can be other reasons that your pet might have a change in their bathroom habits. If you’ve recently moved into a new house or gotten a new pet, then sometimes older pets can act out. If the problem persists, please see your vet.

Thanks for Reading DealDash Reviewed

When you have a pet, they are a part of your family, and it is best to recognize these warning signs before things get worse.  Remember not to panic when you notice these signs.  Schedule an appointment with your vet so you can get the proper diagnosis.

DealDash Pets: Let Your Dog Walk Off-Leash?

DealDash

There are many benefits from letting your dog walk off-lead. Here are some ways to do it safely.

If you only walk your dog or puppy in urban environments with it kept tight to your side, consider changing it up and driving to a forest trail or walking on public footpaths.

There are multiple benefits for this, but the main one being that a dog will walk itself if you let it. Interestingly enough, when let the dog off of the lead, a dog will bound from side to side, run ahead, run back, and generally have a great time. This also lets the dog do all the hard work for you. On an hour-long walk, it may even walk twice as much as you! Here are some ways to accomplish this without endangering your dog, from DealDash.

Already Have a Tight Bond

When you do try this for the first time with a new puppy, make sure you have a great bond. It should come when called into your house and be able to follow a few commands like sit and come. Never, ever use negative reinforcement like hitting to train it; this will only make it scared of you and not want to come anywhere near you. Try using positive reinforcement such as using treats, petting, and praise. This will work just fine and strengthen your bond. You should be starting this training young – the later you leave it, the harder it’ll be to install. However, if you try it too young, the puppy won’t be able to pay attention or remember.

Not Every Dog is Able to Walk Nicely

Some breeds come with their own unique problems. Hounds might spot rabbits and deer and will be off before you’ve even realized they’re gone. In this case, consider walking in large open spaces like fields to get your dog used to being called and returning to you. Labs, especially young ones, are often boisterous and full of confidence; waiting until they’re a little older won’t go amiss. Some dogs will never walk nicely off-leash, and that’s okay. Just give it your best shot, and your dog will love you for it!

Having said this, if you get your dog a little later in its life, then it might have developed a few bad habits. It might not come when called, is aggressive, or will eat anything that comes across its path. If your dog is like this, lots more training will be required before you even begin to take him off-leash. You need to be responsible here; though it’s tempting to let it off just this once, you don’t know if another dog is just around the corner. You don’t want to injure your own dog or someone else’s, so please use common sense when it comes to your own situation.

DealDash Loves Small Animal Pets

DealDash

There are many reasons to love having small animals for a pet. Here is some more information from DealDash.

Do you love animals but live in a small apartment or a rental that doesn’t allow bigger pets like a dog or cat? Or maybe you or a family member is allergic to dogs and cats? Possibly you just love small animals! All of these are great reasons to choose a small animal such as a bunny, guinea pig, or hamster as a pet instead of a larger animal. Here are some great things about small animal pets from DealDash.

DealDash Loves Hamsters

Hamsters are just so cute! They come in a variety of colors and even sizes. From the small Russian Hamster to the larger Teddy Bear Hamster, they are all adorable. They don’t need very much in the way of space at all. Many hamsters live in either a 10-gallon aquarium with a screen top or in a special wire cage that is made specifically for small animals. When I worked at a pet store long ago, hamsters were the most popular animals that we sold. Everyone loved to hold the cute little things.

Mice Are Cute, Too

If you’re interested in a pet that is even smaller than a hamster, choose a mouse! If you’re new to owning mice, you should start out with a few (two or three) females. They love to live in groups and will entertain each other and bond. If you prefer to have a male, they should be kept alone. They don’t care for other mice as companions. Mice need many similar items such as a 10-gallon aquarium with a screen top or a wire cage. Also, they should have an exercise wheel and a drip bottle for water.

Bunnies Are the Best!

How can you not look at a cute little bunny and not smile? Bunnies make wonderful pets and are much more fun and interactive than a hamster or mouse who primarily spends their day in a cage. Rabbits prefer to be part of the household and need to spend time outside of their enclosure every day. Bunnies love to be a part of your family and make a lovely companion to anyone, especially children.

Be Sure That You Have the Supplies

If you are planning on getting a small animal, be sure that you have all of their supplies set up and ready for them before you buy the pet. It sounds like common sense. However, it was very common to see customers at the pet store buying the supplies at the same time as the pet. When you purchase a pet from the pet store they are usually quite scared at first. It’s much kinder to take them home and immediately put them in their new home instead of having to wait until everything is set up for them. So please be kind, and set up your pet’s new home before you bring them home.

DealDash Helps: Has Your Dog Spread His Fleas?

DealDash

Summertime is coming, and that means that the fleas will be out in full force. Here are some tips and tricks for keeping the fleas under control, from DealDash.

Fleas can be quite difficult to get rid of, and sometimes it seems like the arachnid invasion never end. DealDash is here to show you a few ways to keep the fleas under control. It will also give you a few tips on how to prevent the fleas from coming back. These methods are aimed at people who would like to do things more naturally.

This Isn’t Natural, But…

The first thing that you need to do before you tackle the fleas inside your house is to work on the fleas on your dog (or cat.) I personally suggest that you use the strong stuff that’s available from a veterinarian. A simple flea collar isn’t really going to do the trick. It will just make the fleas run from the head to the tail.

Vacuum Your Carpets Very Well

When vacuuming your carpets, start with where your pet enjoys spending his time. Then, vacuum the entire house, room by room, until you have gotten all of the carpets. Pay special attention to the corners of the room and baseboards. Fleas like to hide in dark, so move the furniture, vacuum underneath in all of the nooks and crannies. Don’t forget to throw away the bag or empty the canister when you’re done. Throw it in the garbage outside, not in the trash in the kitchen.

Wash All of the Bedding

Next, wash your pet’s bed as well as all of the bedding in the house. Even though you might not allow Fido up on the furniture, he might jump up there occasionally when you aren’t looking. It’s better to be safe than sorry when it comes to fleas. Wash all of the items in hot water with an extra rinse cycle. Also, use the hottest dryer setting available. Be sure to do this every few days until the fleas are completely gone.

Spray With Vinegar

First, make a vinegar spray. Pour one part vinegar and one part water into a spray bottle. You can use white vinegar or apple cider vinegar – your choice. Spray your carpet with the vinegar mixture. Be sure to focus on areas that your pet likes to spend time in, as well as around baseboards, near entryways, and under furniture. This spray is also safe to use on any surfaces, hard or soft, including your couch, bed, and carpets. The vinegar stinks when it’s wet, but once it has dried the smell goes away completely.

DealDash Pets: Guinea Pigs

DealDash guinea pig

Guinea Pigs are a nice and gentle pet for kids and adults. DealDash takes a look at their care.

Have you ever held a guinea pig? They are so soft, cute, and cuddly.  Also, guinea pigs are easy to care for, inexpensive, and provide a lot of entertainment. Guniea pigs only need a few supplies and a lot of love and attention from their new human family. Here is a list of what you would need to get before you get a guinea pig as a pet, from DealDash.

Guinea Pig Supplies

  • A cage. There are many commercially available guinea pig cages at the pet store. Be sure to get as big a cage as space and budget allow, you should be sure to get at least 4.5 square feet of cage space as a minimum for one guinea pig. Guinea pigs happily live in pairs, though, so be sure that you get a cage even larger if you decide to keep two at a time.
  • Bedding. Make sure to never use cedar or aspen bedding, as it can cause respiratory problems. Pine is usually alright, but the best bedding for your little guinea pig is paper.
  • Water bowl or bottle. A large heavy bowl works great, and as an added bonus you can just pop it right in the dishwasher when you are doing the dishes. If you prefer, you can get a water bottle that mounts to the cage, instead.
  • Guinea Pigs love to graze on their food, so be sure that you have some timothy hay available for them every day.
  •  Green leafy vegetables should make up about 20% of your guinea pigs’ diet. Veggies that are good for guinea pigs include lettuce, celery, carrots, tomatoes, cucumber, parsley, kale, raw broccoli, and small amounts of spinach and peas.
  • Food pellets. You don’t need a lot of food pellets, but variety is the spice of life, so be sure to pick up some food pellets for your guinea pig to graze on after he’s finished his fresh veggies.
  • Love. Lots of love. Be sure to hold and cuddle your guinea pig friend daily. Let him run around in a guinea pig proofed area every day and he will be a happy and healthy pet.

DealDash Helps: Keep Your Pet’s Food Bowls Clean

Dealdash pets animals cat dog

No matter what type of pet you have it’s important to keep their food and water bowls clean. Here are some tips and tricks from DealDash to help you.

You like to eat from clean dishes and bowls, correct? Well, so does your pet! By regularly cleaning your pet’s dishes, you can prevent bacterial growth that could make him or her sick. In addition, you can make his or her eating and drinking experiences much more enjoyable! And that’s what we all want for our pets, right?

Hand-Washing the Old Fashioned Way

Not everyone has a dishwasher, and some people even prefer to wash the dishes by hand. If you choose to wash your pet’s dishes by hand, then be sure to choose a mild dishwashing liquid. If you are not sure which detergents are mild, check the product labels for indications that the product would be soft on your hands. If you want to be extra sure that the dishwashing detergent is safe for your favorite pet, then you can even make your own! It only takes a moment. Just combine equal parts of baking soda, warm water, and table salt.

After washing your pet’s dish, it’s smart to disinfect it as well. If you haven’t scrubbed the dishes quite well enough by just hand-washing, then you should definitely disinfect them. Don’t worry, it’s easy. To disinfect the dish after scrubbing it, mix one gallon of water with one tablespoon of bleach. Add this mixture to the dish and let it sit for about two minutes before rinsing it out. Be sure to rinse it very well.

Better Yet, Wash Them in the Dishwasher

No matter how hot the water is that you use when hand-washing the dishes, it probably isn’t as hot as a dishwasher gets. A dishwasher gets all the way up to 140 degrees F to remove and kill bacteria. To prevent cross-contamination with the human family’s dishes, it is preferable to wash your pet’s dishes by themselves in the dishwasher. Be sure to have two sets of pet dishes for when one of them is in the dishwasher.

Of course, doing a whole dishwasher cycle for just a few dishes is rather wasteful. If it doesn’t bother you to put your own dishes in with your pet’s, it is fine if you have a ‘sanitize’ setting on your dishwasher. This setting effectively kills and removes all bacteria, thus preventing cross-contamination issue that we previously discussed. Be sure to wash your pet’s dishes a few times a week. Your pet will thank you for it!

DealDash Helps: Keep Pets Off the Furniture

DealDash Helps Keep pets off furniture

Pets are a huge part of the average American family’s lifestyle. They give so much love yet leave so much fur. Here are some tips from DealDash to keep the pets off of the furniture.

Many people have pets that live indoors all of the time, and these pets tend to get onto the furniture and leave fur. This is bad for the furniture and for your clothing as well. It can be tricky to break the bad habit of the pets jumping on the furniture, but it can be done. Here are some tips, tricks, and ideas from DealDash to help train Fido and Fluffy to stay off of the furniture.

Prevention is Better Than a Cure

If you haven’t gotten your pet yet, plan to spend some time when you first get them to train them to stay off of the furniture. It’s so much easier to teach them to stay off of the furniture in the beginning than it is to break them of the bad habit later on. Do yourself a favor and remember this fact for the next time you get a new pet.

Get Your Pet Their Own Place

You’re going to have a hard time keeping your pets off of the furniture if they don’t have anywhere else to go. With that said, you don’t have to buy your pet the fanciest, most expensive bed out there. A bed from the discount store will work, as well as a soft pillow or blanket. Just think, of you didn’t have a chair, couch, or bed to sit and sleep on – you would find a comfy spot for yourself, as well. Be kind to your furniture, and get your pet their own cozy spot to sleep and rest comfortably.

Confine Them to a Crate

Now, don’t keep Fido or Fluffy confined to a crate more often than you need to. However, when you aren’t around to supervise them then a crate can be a comfy and cozy little space for them to spend their time. This is an especially useful suggestion for dogs, who actually enjoy having a crate to retreat to when things get a little stressful.

Use Double-Sided Tape on Furniture

This trick is especially useful for cats – use double-sided sticky tape on any place that your cat likes to jump up on. This includes the counter tops and tables as well as the chairs and furniture. The double-sided tape is a completely safe and harmless alternative to keep your pets off of any areas that you don’t want them to lay on. The tape works great, give it a try.

DealDash Pets: Sugar Gliders

Image result for sugar gliders

The majority of people who have pets stick with the more common species such as a cat, dog, or even a lizard.

However, there are some people out there that like exotic pets. The sugar glider is a great example of a cute, cuddly, and fun exotic pet. If you live in Alaska or California, don’t get too excited about having a sugar glider, unfortunately Sugar gliders are illegal in both of those states. If you live in Pennsylvania or Massachusetts, you would need a special permit to own a sugar glider, so perhaps they aren’t ideal for you, either. Regulations can vary by state and laws can change, so check with your state Fish, Game and Wildlife Department before you make plans to get a sugar glider.

As you might guess, a sugar glider is partial to anything sweet, especially fresh fruit & vegetables. If you decide to keep one as a pet you will need to give it fresh fruits and vegetables every day, otherwise it will not be a very healthy little animal.

As for the gliding, the sugar glider can’t actually fly, but they do have a membrane that stretches from their wrist to their ankles, allowing them to glide from tree to tree in the wild.

An interesting item to note: though they look like a squirrel, they are actually a marsupial, like a kangaroo or a koala bear, so they keep their babies in a pouch until the babies are ready to be slightly more independent, though in the wild they usually do live in a family group. Sugar gliders have a lifespan of about 10 years, and stay very small, approximately 6 inches and 6 ounces.

These adorable little creatures are extremely smart, and even though they might seem like a hamster or gerbil at first glance they are actually as smart as a dog or cat. They are able to learn their name, come when called, and do a few different tricks.

Not only are they cute and smart, but they are cuddly and loving as well. Once they have bonded to their “family”, which includes your family and your pets, they don’t want to be without you, and would be very happy to spend every waking moment with you, your kids, or your cat or dog.

Sugar gliders require a cage, toys, food, and love. They don’t need any vaccinations, flea treatments, or other vet care, unless they get sick. Sugar gliders make adorably awesome pets, if you’re looking for a tiny pet with a big personality give the sugar glider a try, you will be pleased.

DealDash Pets: Guinea Pigs

Guinea Pigs are adorable and can make a great pet for kids and adults. They are fairly easy to take care of, and can be lots of fun.

Guinea pigs are cute, cuddly, easy to care for, soft, expressive, and even make little squeals of delight when they are happy. Guinea pigs are a compact pet, weighing only about 1.5 – 2.5 pounds when full-grown, and measuring between 8 – 10 inches in length. They typically live approximately four to five years, but it’s possible for them to live as long as eight years. Guinea pigs only need a few supplies, and a lot of love and attention from their family members.

Here are the things that you will need to get started with your new Guinea pig friend:

  • A house. There are many commercially available cages and condos out there. While Guinea pigs don’t need quite as much space as a larger pet, be sure to get as big a cage as space and budget allows, shoot for approximately 7 square feet. Also, there are two other things to look for in a cage; The tops must be open, as in there is space between the bars to permit easy air flow, and the bottom needs to be solid. It can be made of metal or plastic, but it absolutely cannot be wire, wire can hurt guinea pig feet and lead to infection.
  • Water bowl or water bottle. A large heavy bowl works great, and as an added bonus you can just pop it right in the dishwasher when you are doing the dishes. use water bottles. Water bottles are designed to hang on the side of your cage and provide water from a metal spout. The spout contains ball bearings that prevent water from flowing unless they are actively moved out-of-the-way by your pet. These are not as easy to clean, but they are very popular with Guinea pig owners.
  • Food bowl or dish. As with the water dish, a large heavy bowl works great.
  • Shelter/Hutch. When guinea pigs are startled their natural instinct is to scurry into a dark, enclosed space. It’s therefore important to provide your guinea pig with some sort of covered shelter. You can get a very inexpensive plastic one at the pet store, but be sure that it doesn’t have a bottom on it, this will just get dirty.
  • Bedding. Aspen wood shavings are fairly absorbent, easy to find, and safe for use with guinea pigs.
  • Hay. Hay is a large part of a guinea pig’s diet and should be available all the time. Timothy hay is the best hay to give your guinea pig.
  • Food pellets. Make sure that you get the food pellets specifically for guinea pigs and not other small animals.

DealDash Pets: Bunnies

Rabbits are a wonderful pet for kids and adults. Let’s look a little closer at their care.

Do you know anyone who has a pet bunny? Rabbits are easy to care for, soft, cuddly, fairly inexpensive, and can even learn how to use a little box! Rabbits only need a few supplies, and a lot of love and attention from their family members. Here is a list of what you would need to procure before you get a rabbit as a pet.

  • A house. There are many commercially available bunny cages, hutches, and condos out there. Alternatively, you could “bunny proof” a room of your home and let your bunny live there instead of in an actual cage. Bunny proofing requires an eye to detail, and can be time-consuming. If you go the cage route, be sure to get as big a cage as space and budget allows.
  • A litter box. As with the cage, the bigger the better when it comes to litter boxes. Try to get the largest litter box that can fit comfortably in the space that you have allotted to it. You don’t even have to buy an actual litter box. Get creative! A fairly shallow storage bin, like the kind meant to go under a bed would work great. Don’t forget to get the litter! Try the kind made out of recycled paper, bunnies like that kind the best.
  • Water bowl. A large heavy bowl works great, and as an added bonus you can just pop it right in the dishwasher when you are doing the dishes.
  • Hay. The biggest part of your furry friend’s diet should be Timothy hay.
  • Food pellets. You don’t need a lot of food pellets, but variety is the spice of life, so be sure to pick up some food pellets for your bunny to supplement his hay diet.
  • Love. Lots of love. Be sure to hold and cuddle your bunny friend daily. Let him run around in a rabbit proofed area every day and he will be a happy and healthy pet.

DealDash often has animal supplies up for auction. DealDash carries dog, cat, bird, fish, and yes, bunny supplies. Just click right here and it will take you to the area of DealDash where there are pet items. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!

DealDash Helps Kids Be Pet Owners

No matter what kind of pet your family has, from bird to bunny to turtle to the more traditional cat or dog your child should learn how to take care of the family pet.

What kind of pet does your family have? If its a less hands-on pet such as a bird, fish, or reptile the most loving thing that your child can do for the pet is to take good care of it. Taking good care of it means feeding it on schedule, changing its water, and cleaning it’s habitat. As far as I know turtles don’t really enjoy snuggles, so for these finned, shelled, and feathered pets sharing in the work of feeding and cleaning is a great way to help your child show love for your pet.

If your family has a little furry pet such as a hamster, bunny, gerbil, ferret, or guinea pig your child can definitely do all of the chores as discussed above for the more hands-off pets, but when you get into little tiny furry rodent-type pets then taking care of them can be even more fun. All of the pets that I mentioned above like little treats such as alfalfa hay, chew sticks, fruits and veggies, and more. Just read up on your family pet’s favorite snack and let your child show their love for the family pet by giving them little treats. If you start petting and handling these little pets from the time you get them they should enjoy (or at least tolerate!) being petted or held for short periods of time. Encourage your child to pet or hold their little friend for a few minutes every day, at the same time of day as possible. Pets like a routine, and kids usually do best with a routine as well!

If your family is lucky enough to have a cat or a dog then showing love and affection to these types of pets is the easiest! Almost all dogs and cats enjoy being petted. If you have a kitten or a puppy be sure to pet, love, and hug them as much as possible. That way they will come to enjoy and look forward to these hands-on displays of affection and won’t bite or scratch even when your child accidentally gets a little rough with them as little kids tend to do sometimes. Make sure to include your kids by letting them help you with the daily care of walking and grooming your dog, and feeding and playing with your cat.

If you’d like to show your pet some extra love be sure to check out DealDash. DealDash has lots of pet supplies that your cat, dog, or other little animal will love. Check out this link right here and it will take you to DealDash so you can browse the options. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!
