DealDash Helps Your Child Get Over Test Anxiety

DealDash

For many kids, school is open, or will be very soon. With school comes tests, and with tests can come anxiety. DealDash has some tips to help.

With school back in session, your child will soon be taking tests. Unfortunately for many kids tests bring about a huge amount of anxiety. There are a variety of reasons why kids suffer from test anxiety so you want to help them as soon as you discover the issue. Here are some ways to help ease test anxiety in your children, from DealDash.

What’s the Problem?

You should try to determine exactly what is causing the anxiety to happen. Are they simply afraid of getting a bad grade on a test? Or are they thinking farther ahead and feeling like they will not get the career that they want with a bad test grade? You need to find out exactly what is bothering them so you know how to best help them. With younger kids, sometimes the reassurance that “doing their best” is all that you need can take away some of that anxiety.

Just Relax!

Helping your child relax is something that you can do to help ease test anxiety. There are many things that you can do to accomplish this for your child. You can enjoy a snack with them and talk, watch a favorite television show and even offer to help them study. Anything you can think of doing would be helpful. Another great way to help your child relax is to color with them. Some of the adult coloring books they have out now are great for all ages and are very relaxing.

Get Help From Teacher

Getting the teacher involved may also be required if you can’t take care of things at home. They may have resources that you can make use of in order to ease anxiety in your child. It might just be nice to have the extra support for your child. They may be able to make some accommodations for your child when it is time to take a test to make things less stressful for them. Your child’s teacher can also steer you in the direction of the school counselor if your child needs it.

Thanks for Reading

School can be difficult for kids so if they are having test anxiety you want to offer as much help as possible. This way they will be able to focus better and hopefully do well on the tests that they will be taking this school year.

DealDash: Why Your Study Method Isn’t Working

DealDash

Is your study method not working? Here are some tips from DealDash to help.

Studying can be a daunting task. You have to take the time out of your busy day to focus on your school work. This is especially true if you are an adult student who has gone back to college. Many people have a hard time studying and understanding their material. You may have heard tips to help you study, but if you are not having good results you need to change your studying method. How do you know if your studying method is not working? Here are 3 Reasons why your studying method is not working, from DealDash.

You Did Not Start Early Enough

Last minute studying will put a damper on your grades. You need to have plenty of time to study for a test. You should give yourself about a week to study for your test. Studying for a week can give you time to come back and forth to the material when you need to refresh your memory. Remember to come up with a study schedule, so you can study your material in the right amount of time. Remember, every minute counts, so if you can find just 10 minutes here and there during your day it will help.

You Are Not Focused

We live in a day and age where there are constant distractions. You have TV shows, cell phones, and social media that can distract you during your study time. Make sure you are in a quiet place when you are studying. Turn off all distractions and try to do some deep breathing before you begin to study. This will help you relax while you study. If possible, try to leave your phone in a different room when you are studying. The constant blips and beeps can be very distracting and make you want to pick up your phone.

You Are Not Prepared

You have to be prepared when you are studying for a test. If you have any additional questions, you should ask a teacher or come up with some cool ways to remember information. You can quiz yourself with your friends or turn it into a trivia game. Being prepared and knowing the material will help you succeed at studying. Personally, I have always found that writing things down over and over again can help me remember them.

Thanks for Reading

Studying does not have to be something you don’t enjoy. These tips will help your studying method become more successful, so you can ace the exam. Following these tips will help you stay focused and confident while studying.

DealDash Tips for Studying in a Group

DealDash

Are you back in college or have a child in college? Here are some of the top tips from DealDash for studying in a group.

Studying can be a boring task, but it is necessary for academic success.  In order to be successful, you must study your class materials. Studying does not have to be a daunting task. There are many ways to make prepping for a test or doing a project interesting. One way to make studying fun is to form a study group. Here are 3 tips for group studying, from DealDash.

Choose the Right People

In order to have a successful study group, you have to form a group of people that are determined and focused. You can’t just have just anyone in your group.  A study group should have between three to five members. It is important to study for one to three hours. Choosing the right people will help make studying much easier.

When you form the study group you should have an “end date” for the group such as the end of the semester. This way, if there is a person who isn’t meshing well with the group you won’t have to ask them to leave and have any hard feelings, you just won’t invite them back for the next semester.

Find a Good Meeting Place

It is important to find a good place to study. Studying somewhere noisy or where a lot of people are can be distracting.  When you choose quiet places to study such as a library or conference room you will have more success at studying for your finals or exams.  Remember to leave all distractions at home or put them away such as your phone, or social media. Many churches have meeting rooms available as well, even if you don’t attend the church. You can simply call the office and ask to reserve one of the rooms in advance.

Stay Focused and Organized

It is easy to get distracted and unorganized when you are studying in a group.  It is important to choose a group leader that will keep everyone focused and on track.  The person who came up with the study group idea should be the leader. If you are not up to the task of being the leader, be sure to invite someone to join who is willing and able to lead the study group.

Thanks for Reading

Studying does not have to be a hard task. You can easily form an effective study group by following these instructions. Just remember to keep all of your materials organized and eliminate all possible distractions. If you follow these studying tips you will have no problem passing your class with flying colors.

DealDash’s Study Tips for Your Teen

DealDash

If you have a teen who needs some study tips, then read this article. Give the tips in this DealDash article a try.

No teen likes to study, but it has to be done in order to pass an exam. It is not easy to stay focused when you are studying because there are so many distractions going on around us. In order to pass a test, your teen will have to make sure that they stay focused. They may feel tired or lazy when it comes to studying, but they will have to work through it to get a good grade. Here are some tips to stay focused when your teen is studying, from DealDash.

Eliminate Social Media

Social media can be a big distraction when your teen is studying for an exam. It is best to turn off all phones and the internet off of the computer while your teen is studying. They need to try not to look at tweets or post any statuses on Facebook. If your teen needs a break from studying, they can take a stroll around the neighborhood or park for 20 minutes. I know it may be tempting to check on social media while studying, but ignoring those urges will help your teen’s studying become more effective.

Study Group

One way to stay focused when studying is to study with some classmates. Having a study group is beneficial because your teen will have someone that will keep them accountable. They should go to a quiet place such as the library to study with their classmates. A study group will help your teen stay more alert and motivated to study. However, your teen needs to make sure that they choose the correct people to join their study group. They wouldn’t want to be distracted by people who want to chat instead of study.

Don’t Forget to Eat

Food is fuel. Sometimes when your teen is studying a lot they forget to eat. A studying brain needs to stay alert and focused so eating healthy foods that give energy will help them stay focused. Urge your teen not to have a lot of caffeine or eat things with a lot of sugar in it. That will make them have a major crash. Eating is an essential part of staying focused while studying.

If you would like to help, why not prepare some simple and healthy snacks for your teen to choose from while studying? You could cut up carrot and celery sticks and keep them in a Tupperware in the fridge. When your teen takes a snack break they can easily put some on a plate with some ranch dip. Or you could also keep pretzels and hummus stocked in your kitchen. Both of these are great quick snack options for your teen.

Thanks for Reading

Studying does not have to be something your teen dreads. Once they get the task of studying out of the way your teen can go on and do the things they like to do. Following these tips will help them stay focused when they are studying so that your teen can pass their test with flying colors.

DealDash Kids: Joining the PTO

DealDash

Joining your child’s PTO at school is a great idea. Here is more information on the PTO from DealDash.

First of all, what is the PTO and what does it do? The PTO of a school is an independent group that does fundraising for the school. The PTO consists of volunteer parents, teachers and school staff. You’ll find that a well-organized parent-teacher organization is going to be able to do wonderful things for a school. Here are some reason as to why you should join your child’s school PTO, from DealDash.

Stay Involved With Your Child’s School

You will be more involved with your child’s life in school. During their younger years, your child will spend quite a lot of time in school. Therefore, it would be a wonderful thing to be able to be involved in things that they are doing at school. You will be assisting not only your child but the other children at the school as well as the PTO works to make the school better.

Personally, I volunteer at my kid’s school library. It’s a very easy and fun thing to do that lets me see the kids for an extra hour per week. The kids are always thrilled and excited when they come to the library and see me behind the librarian’s desk.

Meet Other Parents

Secondly, you will be put into a social situation with other parents. The PTO is a great way to be involved not only more with your child but with their parents as well. This is a great way to be able to be in agreement with your friends on different issues concerning your children. It’s a wonderful way to meet new friends as well as see old ones from the previous school year.

Know All About School Happenings

You will be kept more in the loop with things that are going on in your child’s school. The PTO stays up to date with issues going on in the school. You will also have much better communication with the teachers that are teaching your children. This is because teachers generally work hand in hand with the PTO.  For example, I always have an opportunity to chat with my children’s teacher when I am volunteering at the school library. I don’t have to call, email, or wait until a parent-teacher conference. I can mention any questions or concerns that I might have.

Thanks for Reading

Finally, the best part of being part of the PTO means that you will be able to promote positive change within the school. If you’re looking for a fun activity that will benefit not only your child but you as well then you should look into becoming a member of your child’s school PTO.

DealDash Tips for Buying Kid’s Gym Shoes

DealDash

Gym shoes are important to have, especially when it’s snow boot season. Let DealDash help you find new gym shoes.

If your kids are like most, they are going to need separate shoes for gym class while in school. Now you want to find the best shoes that you can without spending a great deal of cash on them. Here are some tips for getting the best gym shoes for your kids, from DealDash.

Timing is Important

You will want to purchase shoes later in the day. Feet tend to swell slightly when you are up and about on your feet like children are during the day at school. By purchasing shoes later in the day you will get a much better fit then if you were to purchase them in the daytime.

Get Them Measured

You should also try to take an accurate measurement of your child’s feet. This is so that you have a much better idea as to what size gym shoe is going to fit them. Even if they are wearing a particular size of shoe their gym shoe size might be different, especially if it’s a different brand. Many times you can also get your child’s feet measured while you are at the shoe store. This is really important if you want to get a gym shoe that fits well.

Walk Around the Store

Having your child walk around the shoe store with their new gym shoes on will help you see whether or not the shoe are comfortable to them. Being comfortable is an important factor in being a good fit for their gym class.  Trying on shoes is important to make sure that your child will be comfortable in the gym shoes that they choose.

How Much Are These Things?

Looking at the price tag of the gym shoes is also important. Make sure that you get a pair of gym shoes that your child will like and be comfortable in. However, you also need to make sure you find a pair of shoes that are in your budget.

Thanks for Reading

Keep all of these tips from DealDash in mind when you are looking for gym shoes for your kids. Do so, and you will find that you will be able to find a pair of gym shoes that your child will love and be comfortable in at a price that won’t ruin your budget.

DealDash Calms First Day of School Nerves

DealDash

The first day of school can be scary. Luckily, DealDash is here to help with tips for your child.

The first day of school can be a nerve wracking experience for a lot of children, especially if it is their first year at school. As a parent, it can be difficult to know just how to calm the nervous feeling that their children are having. Here are a few tips to help calm your children so that they can have a great first day at school.

Create Some Excitement

The first thing that you should do is get them excited to be up in the morning. Let them know that going to school is a great and fun thing for them. Do this while they are getting ready. It will help to put them in a good mood and hopefully start to get rid of the nervousness that they may be feeling. If possible, tell them that you will let them choose dinner for that night. Tell them that you can’t wait to talk about their day with the whole family at dinner time.

Feed Them a Good Breakfast

It cannot be stressed enough how important a good and nutritious breakfast can be for your child. You need to give them a breakfast that is full of nutrients and protein. This is so that they will be able to get through the morning until their lunch time. Take the time to eat something with your child and continue to talk about what a good day that they will be having. Continue the excitement that you started creating before when they were getting ready. Make sure that you pack them a healthy lunch along with a little treat if they aren’t purchasing school lunch.

Compliments = Confident Children

Building your child’s confidence while they are getting ready for school will also help then to feel less nervous. Give them several compliments to help build up their confidence before they walk out the door for school. You also want to reassure them that although the school day can seem really long they will have you waiting to hear all about their day. Give them a compliment on their hair or outfit, as well as a compliment about their intelligence. It will have them feeling great and ready to take on the challenge of school.

Thanks for Reading

Going to school, especially on the first day can really intimidate kids so be sure to take the time to help them get rid of their nervousness. This way they can tackle the first day of school with confidence and of course a big smile.

DealDash Back to School Tips for Success

DealDash

Are you ready for back to school? Here are some tips for success from DealDash.

Whether you are ready for it or not it is soon going to be time for back to school. While it can be difficult to let go of all the fun that summer can offer, you will want to transition as smoothly as possible into the fall months when school approaches. Here are four tips that will help set you up for back to school success, from DealDash.

Develop and Keep a Routine

Make sure to develop a routine that you can stick to during the school year. This will assist your children in being as successful as possible. Knowing what comes next is something that will really help children as they can avoid the stress of the unknown. This is especially true for younger children who are new at this whole “school thing.”

Stick to the Rules

You also want to have a solid set of rules in place when it is time for your kids to return to school. You will need to set down rules for television time as well as phone and game time. Also, come up with some rules in regard to doing homework so that your children know what is expected of them. Also, be sure that there are reasonable punishments for disobeying the rules. Make sure that your kids understand that there will be consequences, and you will punish them if it’s necessary. If possible, have the “punishment fit the crime,” such as if your child doesn’t do their homework when they get home like they are supposed to, then they have to do an extra homework page.

Time Management is Your Friend

Excellent time management is going to be your friend when it comes to getting your kids off to school every day. You need to make sure that you can implement a schedule for getting ready for school as well as one for the evening hours. It should be easy to follow so that you can help your kids get all of their tasks done with the least amount of stress. It’s also important to have an easy to follow routine in case you need to get a babysitter for the evening. Keeping your kids on their schedule is important for both you and your children.

Healthy Meals

Planning healthy meals is also going to help everyone be successful when it comes to back to school. Planning healthy meals takes less time than you would think and your family will be thankful for the extra time that planning ahead will give them. You will also appreciate the benefits of eating healthy, which leads to happy and healthy kids.

Getting back to school can seem like a stressful event however with a little planning you can make a seamless transition into this yearly event.

DealDash Gets Kids Back Into School Mode

DealDash

Kids are still in a summer frame of mind. How do we get them back into school mode? Let DealDash help.

Earlier this week we talked about getting kids back on a school time schedule. (Click right here to read it if you missed it!) However, even if you get their schedule back on track they still might not be in a school frame of mind. Luckily, there are a few simple things that you can do to help. Read on, for more tips and tricks from DealDash.

Do a Little School Work

Some kids like doing workbooks and many others don’t like it. However, if you want to get them thinking about school, then it’s time to get one. They have workbooks for all ages at the bookstore. They even have them at the dollar store for younger kids. If you can manage to get your kids to do a page or two of school work every day, then they will be better prepared to head back to school.

If your kids really dislike workbooks, or if you can’t find one that suits them, then hit the books. Get your kids to read every day. If they are younger then have them read a story book every day with your help. If they are older, then have them read a chapter of a longer book every day. This will get their brains back into learning mode.

Go Back to School Shopping

I confess, I didn’t like school very much when I was a kid. However, one of my favorite activities was back to school shopping. I loved picking out my folders, notebooks, and other school supplies.

Other than actual school supplies, I loved picking out a new backpack, outfit and new shoes for the first day of school. There’s just something about fresh new clothes and school supplies that gets you in the mood to go back to school.

Get Together With Friends

There are still a few weekends left before school starts. Why not invite a few school friends over to play so they can renew their relationship before school starts? I know that a big part of not being ready to start school again can come from anxiety and worry that they won’t have any friends in their new class. Inviting some old friends from last school year can help, and show your kids that even if they don’t know anyone in their new class they will still have friends to ride the bus with and sit with at lunchtime and recess.

DealDash Helps: Essential School Skills

DealDash

School is opening back up soon. Here are some essential school skills that your child needs, from DealDash.

Summer is ending soon and parents are thinking about their kids going back to school. They are wondering things like how their child will do academically. You should not worry as your child’s teacher will have that covered. What you should help your child do is learn some essential skills that will assist them in having the best school year that they can. Read on, for more information from DealDash.

Resiliency is Key

You will need to teach them resiliency. Basically, you want them to be able to bounce back easily from a difficult situation. For example, they might have gotten into a fight with a good friend or possibly have not done so well on a test. No matter what the situation, teach your child to be resilient. Show them how to be able to react well to any situation that may happen to them. Social situations can be especially tough on kids these days.

Take Responsibility

You also need to teach your child to take responsibility for their own actions. No matter if it is concerning their school work or their relationships with their peers. Let them know how important that it is to be able to take responsibility for everything that they do not only while they are in school but at home as well. People who take responsibility for their own actions, even when they are negative actions, get more respect.

Problem-Solving

Problem-solving is another essential skill that you need to teach your child this coming school year. You need them to be able to identify issues that they may be having and how to properly deal with them. A child that has good problem-solving skills is going to have a much more productive year than a child who cannot properly deal with problems that may come up during the school year. Problem-solving is a skill that will serve your child well when they are in school, and continue to serve them into adulthood.

DealDash Gets Your Kids School Schedule on Track

DealDash

School will be back in session in a few weeks. Get your kid’s schedule back on track with help from DealDash.

If your kids are anything like mine, they have been staying up later at night and sleeping later in the morning this summer. That’s perfectly fine and normal, but with school starting again in a few weeks it’s time to think about getting their sleeping and waking schedule back on track. Read on for more information, from DealDash.

Start Gradually

The reason that I am writing about this subject now when there are a few weeks of summer vacation still left, is because it’s best to adjust their schedule gradually. The more gradually you adjust their schedule, the less cranky they will be in the morning. Personally, I plan on adjusting their schedule 15 minutes at a time. My kids are off of their schedule by about an hour, so each week before school starts I plan on moving their bedtime and waking time up by 15 minutes. They will hardly notice the difference and will make the transition go much more smoothly. If your kids are off their schedule by hours, then you might have to do it by 30-minute increments instead.

How Much Sleep Do They Actually Need?

Depending on the ages of your child they will need different amounts of sleep. For example, my elementary school-aged children need a lot more sleep than my college-bound niece. According to the experts, young kids in elementary school should be getting 9-11 hours of sleep nightly, while teenagers ages 13-17 need about 8-10 hours. Younger adults aged 18-22 are recommended to receive about 7-9 hours. Of course, these are just guidelines. I have a 5-year-old who hasn’t taken a nap since she was 2, stays up late then wakes up earlier than the rest of the household.

DealDash Sleep Tips

Do your kids find it hard to go to sleep earlier at night? They might have a few habits in the daytime that are contributing to their restlessness at night. One of the biggest causes of restlessness at night is having too much screen time close to bedtime. Electronic devices such as phones, iPads, and laptops emit a light that “wakes up” your brain. If your child is using these devices too close to bedtime and is having trouble falling asleep, then I recommend shutting them off at least an hour before bed.

Another culprit that might be affecting your child’s sleep is caffeine. Older teens might be drinking too much coffee, but even younger kids might be getting too much caffeine through soda or food that they are eating. Try to observe what your kids are eating between lunch time and bedtime to see if there is anything with caffeine such as chocolate. When in doubt, have your kids drink extra water! It won’t hurt, and it will probably help!

DealDash: Ready for School – Easier Homework Time

DealDash

Summer vacation is coming quickly to an end. Time to start thinking about school and homework, with DealDash.

Let’s face it no one really likes homework. In fact, many kids struggle with home work and getting it done so that they can hand in their assignments on time at school. Now that the first day of school is coming up soon you’ll want to start thinking about homework. Here are a few things that you can do as a parent to help make homework go a little easier for your child, with a little help from DealDash.

Ask the Teacher for Help

You can talk to your child’s teacher. Let them know if your child is having difficulty with homework and check on how they are doing in school. They might have been too shy to ask the teacher for extra help. You just may find that the teacher recommends things like getting a tutor or getting some extra help in school so that they will understand their homework better.

Let Them Take Breaks

If your child has a lot of homework you need to make sure that you allow them to take breaks. A 10-15 minute break after each homework subject is sufficient. You also want to teach them what an appropriate break would be, such as going outside for some fresh air. You might also suggest getting a healthy snack such as fruit as opposed to sitting down in front of the television for their break.

Try to Make it Fun

Trying to make homework fun is another thing that you can do to help make homework easier for your child. For example, there are countless videos on YouTube with different school subjects that make learning a lot of fun. This is a great option especially if your child is more of a visual learner. There are also online games that can teach and entertain at the same time.

Give Them Small Rewards

Be sure to reward your child’s good work. If your child has done well with getting their homework done all week then plan a fun activity that you can do together. This way your child will be excited to learn more and continue to do well with their homework. Younger children, especially, enjoy a visual reminder such as a chart that they can put a sticker on when their homework has been completed.

Thanks for Reading

Homework is not really fun for anyone. However, it does help your child progress academically. If you are able to help your child with their homework completed, school will become a lot easier for your child. You just may find they will do even better than expected in school.

DealDash Helps: Help Your Child Concentrate

dealdash helps

Concentration is very important for children when they are studying. Let DealDash show you some ways to help.

Staying focused is fundamental to do well at school, especially for kids nowadays, who are more sensitive to distractions. This is thanks mostly due to new technologies such as TVs, games, smartphones- you name it! This is why focusing can be a helpful exercise, like training for sports, to be done every day. It’s very important if you want your child to be successful when they study. Here are some suggestions to reach that goal, from DealDash.

Concentration and Study Tips

The place where your child studies must be quiet, without smartphones, tablets, game systems, or other means of communication. This is very important for the child who is easily distracted by notifications and texts.

The child should have had enough sleep in order to perform well in his activities. Between 8 and 9 hours, according to experts, is the ideal quantity for children of school age.

Take a quick break between each subject. A child can concentrate well only if they have the lure of a small break and the ability to rest their little brains. This is why they should pause their study session between subjects in order to be more productive and motivated.

Never study after a heavy meal. It’s better to study the morning or the evening, but not right after one has eaten. After you have eaten a heavy meal the body is busy with digestion and one can feel tired. However, each child has their own preference, so it’s also important to follow their likes and dislikes – up to a point!

If they receive bad grades at school they need to be motivated instead of harshly scolded. When one fails they tend to feel less motivated. You should try to help the child gain focus again, and motivate positively. This will encourage them to try harder instead of quit.

Support your child, even if they don’t do well. It’s very important to let him know and feel you love him and support him, no matter what.

In conclusion, if you’ve read all of these suggestions, you can see that the parent needs to get involved. A little kind parental attention can go a long way to an eager student who wants to please.

DealDash Goes to School

Image result for back to school

Depending on where you live, today is a popular day for the first day of school. Here are some helpful hints for you and your kids.

In my area, today is the first day of school. Some kids love school, but others are a little more reluctant. My son, who is in second grade this year, is definitely one of the reluctant ones. School has been very tough for him, he has some learning disabilities, and has had to repeat a grade already. Since things are so tough, I have been working on some strategies to make life a little easier on us. I’d like to share those strategies with you, in case you have a reluctant little one, as well.

  • Repetition. With any task that you find unpleasant, repetition is the key to prepare yourself for the tasks ahead. My son wakes at the exact same time, eats the same breakfast, goes to the bus at the same time, etc. etc. etc. Every single day, Monday through Friday. There is no variation in the schedule, no surprises, so he knows exactly what to expect on a school day. This is an especially good tactic to follow with younger kids, or kids on the Autism Spectrum.
  • Don’t procrastinate. When you procrastinate before doing an unpleasant task, like homework, it seems like the task just gets bigger and bigger the longer you wait. That’s why it’s important to do homework with the kids as soon as they get off the bus. There will be time for snacks, chores, and playtime later, but homework comes first.
  • Keep organized. Try to find a dedicated space for your kids to store all of their school and homework supplies, backpacks, and other school items. It’s also helpful to make a dedicated space for them to put notes from the teacher, permission slips, and things that the parent needs to see/sign, daily. I personally got a decorative chalkboard that had clips on it, and the kids can clip any “must see” items to it when they come home from school.

If you’re looking for storage items to keep your things organized, be sure to check DealDash first. DealDash has many useful storage solutions. Just click this link here and it will take you to DealDash. Good luck and happy bidding, everyone!

DealDash Talks: Bullies

I had an experience today with my daughter being bullied at the local indoor mall play area. Let’s look at bullying and how you can help.

Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior among people, typically school-aged children (but can continue into adulthood) that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. Bullying can be mental, such as making threats, spreading rumors, or physical such as attacking someone physically or excluding someone from a group on purpose. Obviously these are not good things for our children and grandchildren to be doing to each other, so what can we do to reduce the bullying?

Bullying can threaten students’ physical and emotional safety at school, on the playground, or at the mall, as my daughter experienced today. If the bullying happens at school it can negatively impact their ability to learn, which is a terrible shame if it makes the bullied child start to dislike school. The best way to combat bullying is to stop it before it starts. Parents, teachers, grandparents, school counselors, and others can help prevent bullying. They can help kids understand the negative affects of bullying, and model how to treat others with respect.

If an adult witnesses an act of bullying it’s important that they stop the bullying immediately. The bullies need to be told that bullying of any sort will not be tolerated and that it needs to stop immediately. The adult should then help the bullied child feel safe and ask what they need to be able to make that happen. In school that might mean changing classrooms or lunch periods.

Sometimes the child that was bullied feels ashamed, or that it was their fault that they were targeted. It’s important to reassure them that it wasn’t their fault, and help them think of steps that they can take in the future to minimize or eliminate the bullying.

Consider this your Public Service Announcement against bullying. Talk to your children and grandchildren to make sure that they feel safe at school and at their other activities such as sports practices and at the playground. It’s very important to stop bullying, that’s why many elementary schools now do an “anti-bullying” unit during the school year.

When my daughter feels sad I always like to get her a small present to cheer her up. DealDash has lots of awesome toys that little girls love. If you’re shopping for a little girl be sure to check out DealDash. The Hobbies, Toys, Outdoors, and Games category is located at this link right here. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!

DealDash Helps: Choose a School

If you are able to choose your child’s school for the upcoming school year, now is about the time that you need to give them the decision. DealDash would like to extend a helping hand to assist you.

It can be a huge decision to find and choose the right school for your child. The school you choose can have an impact on their first friends, hobbies, favorite subjects, and in some cases even if they enjoy school or not!  By knowing what to look for and weighing the pros and cons of each, you can make sure you make the best decision that you can.

My daughter is starting her first year of school in September, and I have made the decision to send her to a private Christian school. My son is twice her age and attends the local elementary school, and armed with the information that I have I have decided that the private school is better for her extremely sensitive personality. My friend’s son is the same age as my daughter but lives in a different town, and in her town they have a choice of 5 different elementary schools to choose from. Together she and I put together lists of what was the most important to us in terms of locality, languages, math/science based, music programs, sports, class sizes, and other factors.

Choosing your child’s first school, or in the case of high school students who get to choose if they will go to a traditional high school or a trade-based school is a huge decision that you don’t want to make without knowing all of the facts. After making your list of what are the most important things to you regarding school the next step is to look at what schools are available to you and weed out the ones that you are definitely not interested in. After you have cut down the list to a few (2 or 3) choices then the next step is to make appointments to go visit the schools in person.

If you encounter any resistance to seeing the school, meeting the teachers, or receiving a tour then you should probably ask yourself if this particular school is a good fit for you and your family. The school that I enrolled my daughter in had an open house, and after attending the open house they set up appointments to see the teachers in action. If the school that you are considering isn’t open to that then I would suggest that you keep looking elsewhere.

When you have secured appointments at the schools that you are interested in, be sure to bring a list of questions that you can ask the faculty. Try to remember to write down your questions as they come to you, once you are at your school tour you might not be able to remember them all.

After you have taken your tour, asked and received answers to your questions, and made your final decision about the school be sure to fill out all of the enrollment paperwork, pay fees (if any), and get copies of your child’s vaccination records to give to the school. If you skip any of these things your child might be denied entry to your first choice of school. Also be sure that you have a second choice of school on deck, just in case your first choice doesn’t work out for you.

I hope that this article has helped get you thinking about your child’s educational experience. Once you have made your decision about the school head on over to DealDash. DealDash has many wonderful toys, furniture, and educational items for kids in the Hobbies, Toys, Outdoors, and Games category. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!

DealDash Makes: A Teacher Gift

Depending on where you are located school should be over for the summer soon. With the last day of school right around the corner we should make a teacher gift.

My son is in first grade, and his last day of school is coming up in just a couple of weeks. He has a hard time at school, and the teacher and assistants do an excellent job of following his IEP and assisting him in any way possible that helps him be able to learn like an average child. For this caring and concern I think that it would be nice to have him make his teacher a gift for the last day of school. Do you know of a special teacher that could use a little recognition?

The teacher gift that I want to make with my son is inspired by the “diaper cake” phenomenon that has come about for presenting to new Mommies at their baby shower. This gift can be on the cheaper side, mid range, or more expensive depending on where you purchase the supplies to make the “cake”. Here are the supplies needed:

  • Small (square) box of tissues
  • 1 – 6″ round (approx 3″ tall) box w/lid
  • 1 – 8″ round (approx 3″ tall) box w/lid
  • 1 – 10″ round (approx 5″ tall) box w/lid
  • 12″ cake board
  • 15 2 packs glue sticks in their packaging
  • 3 yds ribbon
  • 16 boxes 24 ct crayons
  • 10 – 1 subject notebooks
  • 4 – packs of note cards
  • Hot Glue gun, hot glue sticks
