DealDash Helps You Prepare for the Dreaded Flu Season

DealDash

With the kids back into school and the weather slipping back into fall, we know that flu season is coming. Here are some tips from DealDash to avoid the dreaded flu season.

It is that time of year again when everyone is prone to getting the flu. The flu is a worldwide epidemic that happens mostly during the winter time. Almost anyone can get the flu especially children and the elderly. It is important to be prepared for the flu season so you won’t have to deal with the illness that everyone dreads. Here are some tips that will help you prepare for the flu season, and keep up your health level in general, from DealDash.

Make Sure You Have Supplies

Before the flu season starts, you should stock up on the supplies that you need to prevent the flu such as hand sanitizer, hand soap, and tissues. It is also good to carry Lysol wipes around so you can clean off the surfaces that people may touch to get rid of the germs if they are ill. Having the right supplies will help make dealing with the flu season easier.

Wash Away the Germs

The flu can easily spread from one person to the other, so it is important to keep up with personal hygiene and to wash your hands. Washing your hands with some soap and warm water can kill a significant amount of germs. If you have young kids it is best to remind them to wash their hands after they use the restroom. Also, you and your family should all be sure to wash your hands before eating. You can also have your family carry around packs of hand sanitizer, so they will stay free of germs.

Get a Flu Vaccine

One of the easiest ways to prepare for the flu season is to get a flu vaccine. The flu vaccine can protect you against the normal strains of the flu. Catching the flu is different from having a cold because the flu virus can spread the day before the symptoms of the flu show up. That is why it is important to get your flu vaccine as soon as possible. Children should get their flu vaccine at their pediatrician’s office. Adults can get their vaccine at their doctor’s office, or many pharmacies also administer flu shots.

Thanks for Reading

The flu season is not something that anyone looks forward to. If you follow these tips you will have a much easier time not getting the flu. Remember that the flu can happen to anyone, but when you are prepared as well as already being healthy you have a better chance of not getting sick.

DealDash Stays Healthy During the Winter

DealDash

Winter is just about here. Try to stay healthy with these tips from DealDash.

When you are a parent keeping your kids healthy is your top priority. Also, you should work to keep yourself healthy, too. This is especially true in the winter months. Here are some simple tips that you can use to help keep yourself and your kids as healthy as possible in winter, from DealDash.

Get Enough Sleep

You need to make sure that you and your children are getting enough sleep. Kids can get get a little overly active being stuck inside. Ergo, you need to make sure that they are getting time outside when possible and that you are keeping them busy inside as well. You will also want to make sure that your kids are getting enough rest so that they will be able to stay as healthy as possible.

While we need the appropriate amount rest out children need it much more. That doesn’t mean that you should stay up until the late hours, either. Shoot for 7-8 hours of sleep per night for yourself, and 10+ hours for children.

Take Your Vitamins

Additional vitamins might be needed during the winter to keep you and your kids healthy. You will want to look into Vitamin D, as many people do not get enough sunlight during the winter months. Vitamin C might also be in order to make sure that you and your kids are as healthy as possible during the winter months. They make wonderful gummy multi-vitamins for both kids and adults. They are very similar to gummy bears, so they are not a chore, but a treat!

Hand Washing is Imperative

You also need to teach your kids about the importance of washing their hands. This is not only for winter but all year long so that your kids will stay healthy. You need to make sure to teach the reason that they need to wash their hands as doing this is just as important as the act of washing their hands itself.

Making sure that your kids are washing their hands can help not only them, but you to keep from getting sick. As we know, little kids frequently touch things that are covered in germs. The more often they wash their hands the less likely they are to spread the germs to the rest of the family.

DealDash Health: Is it a Cold or the Flu?

DealDash

It can be very difficult to tell if it’s a cold or flu when you are sick. Here are some tips on figuring out what it is, from DealDash.

Flu and colds are not the same, although sometimes your symptoms can get confused. Both are diseases caused by a virus, easily contagious and with symptoms that mainly pertain to the respiratory system. However, differentiating them is important because while a cold is usually not severe, the flu can lead to serious complications depending on the person who has it, and therefore must be aware of its evolution. Read on for more information, from DealDash

How do colds and flu differ?

For starters, flu and colds are distinguished by the speed at which their symptoms appear. While a cold usually comes on suddenly, and we go from perfect to ill in just a few hours, colds are more progressive. It can take a couple of days to develop all the symptoms. Colds are more likely to get into our nose and throat. Sneezing, nasal congestion and sore throat are very common.

The flu usually makes us feel worse in general. It is common to have a fever for several days (something rare in a cold), joint and muscle pain, headaches, chills, and general weakness.

What Do They Look Like?

Colds and flu have one very important thing in common: as we have already said, both are caused by a virus. This means that neither of them are treated with antibiotics. The only cure for both is to let a few days go by, finish the viral process, and cope with the symptoms with pain relievers, analgesic medications, and decongestant medications.

It is important to emphasize that there are no antibiotics that cure a cold or flu. The misuse of antibiotics results in the resistance of different bacteria to these drugs, which becomes a serious problem when we suffer from a real bacterial infection. It’s important to save these antibiotic medications for when they will actually be effective.

The development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria is a serious global public health problem. Scientists around the world are working to develop new antibiotics that are more effective. This requires time, talent, and funding. Until then, it is important that we make proper use of what we have.

DealDash Treats Chicken Pox Naturally

DealDash

Chicken pox has always been a rite of passage of childhood. Let DealDash help you treat the itching, naturally.

Getting chicken pox is more and more rare these days since there is a vaccination on the market. However, the vaccination is not always 100% effective, and some kids end up getting a mild case. No matter how mild the case is, though, the itching can be almost unbearable. Here are some tips and hints to ease the itching without a lot of chemicals.

Treat Chicken Pox With Oatmeal

Oatmeal has been used practically forever to soothe and as a home remedy for itchy skin, rashes, and chicken pox. Oatmeal can moisturize skin and also as an emollient. Over time, this can improve dry skin.

How Do I Use the Oatmeal?

The first thing you’ll need to do is go buy the oats. These typically come in a tub, and say “whole rolled oats.” Don’t get the instant ones. After you have purchased the oats, it’s time to use them.

You can take a bath with the oatmeal. Simply take an old pair of pantyhose, footed tights, or a cheesecloth, and make yourself a bag of oats that you can soak in the tub with the chicken pox sufferer. Make sure that the water is warm, but not hot. Place the child into the water with the bag of oats and water and let them soak for around 20 minutes. You can do this as often as twice per day if you find it helpful.

Try Honey to Soothe the Pox

Honey has natural antibacterial properties – this is why honey will never actually go bad, it just crystallizes. It’s these antibacterial properties and also the sugar in the honey that will help to reduce the itchiness your of the chicken pox, and it will help heal the skin as well. You can place honey on a q-tip and apply to the chicken pox spots up to three times per day.

Baking Soda Fixes Everything

If you would like to try a different bath than the oatmeal one, try a baking soda bath instead. Did you know that baking soda is a natural acid neutralizer? If you’re not familiar with this, it means that it can help to soothe the chicken pox sufferer’s itchy skin. It does this by restoring the natural pH of your the person’s skin. Baking soda is practically a miracle product, this is just one of the miracle uses.

DealDash Helps: Worried About That Cough?

dealdash sick cough

Colds, coughs, and sneezes are commonplace during the colder months. When is it time to worry?

No matter how seasoned a parent or grandparent is, they always wonder if they should worry about their child’s cough. Relax, there are few more widespread and frustrating symptoms than a simple cough. From experience with my own three little ones, I know it can be irritating and annoying to them when they are trying to sleep. It can sometimes even be scary when they can’t catch their breath and are wheezing.

I know it hurts our little ones’ chests to a point that you worry so much that you stay up all night and look after them. It’s important to understand that coughs differ, some may need particular attention and a doctor’s care while others need patience and support from you, not medicine. Let’s take a look at different types of children’s coughs with DealDash.

When In Doubt, Call the Doctor

If a child has a constant hacking cough that becomes severe to the point where she can’t catch her breath or speak, it’s serious. Stop reading this article and get your little kiddo to the nearest pediatrician, urgent care, or hospital for medical evaluation. The respiratory distress like constant belly breathing is not something to neglect. If you think that your child is having trouble breathing, make sure you follow the advice above. When you are in doubt, let professionals take care of this problem. If it’s a false alarm it will at least put your concerns at ease.

Listen Up.

Specific coughs have a characteristic sound depending on the cause. A barky cough which reminds you of a seal might be common croup. Croup is a viral infection of the larynx. Some medicines can come in handy with this type of a cough, and if your child makes a gasping noise as he inhales and exhales as well as the fact that he has a barky cough, then he needs a doctor to check him out, right away.

Asthma-like symptoms might cause the type of cough which sounds tight and dry. If your baby is very young or unvaccinated and he has a constant staccato-like cough, it could be whooping cough, which is quite dangerous. Antibiotics are needed for the patient as well as for yourself and all her close contacts. It’s not fun, but it’s part of being a parent.

The type of cough that is loose and comes with mucus is a wild card – it can either be sinusitis or pneumonia. This one has to be treated with antibiotics, or it could be just a simple plain virus like the common cold or even the flu. Support your child with patience and care, be there for him, he is going to need your loving care.

Treat Your Child Correctly

Once you know the type of cough that your child has, you can get the right medicine. If you even need any at all, of course. Don’t discredit the professional care measures; coughs can be painful and uncomfortable. If nothing works, seek help from a pediatrician.

I hope that you found this article on children’s coughs helpful. If your little one is ill, why not get them a little get-well gift? DealDash has so many wonderful things for children such as games, stuffed animals, and sports equipment.

DealDash – Feeling Sick but Looking Good

Image result for beautiful sick person

Here are a few ideas from DealDash to look your best even when you’re feeling your worst.

It’s winter, so let’s face it – you’re either currently sick, getting over being sick, or about to be sick. That’s just the nature of the winter season. However, unless you are lucky enough to be able to stay home until you are 100% better, you’re probably going to have to soldier on through the illness and go out in public. No one likes to go out when they feel terrible, but here are a few ideas from DealDash to look and feel a little better when you have to go out when you’re sick.

Moisturize, inside and out! When you’re sick you need to drink extra water. Not only does your body need water to heal, you also need to drink extra water to keep your skin from getting dried out in the cold winter air. In addition to the extra water for inside, you need to be extra vigilant with moisturizer and lotions when you’re sick. Even if you’re perhaps someone who doesn’t regularly moisturize your face, you should take good care of your facial skin when you’re sick. If you’re constantly blowing your nose the skin around your nose and lips is going to get very dry and chapped. Put some moisturizer on it!

While you’re moisturizing your face, be sure to put some lip balm on as well. Your lips are sure to get extra dry from the weather as well as from your coughing and sneezing. Try a tinted lip balm to put a little color on your face so you look a little more lively than you feel.

Wear bright cheery colors. I know that it’s tempting to wear dark or drab colors when you’re feeling terrible but put on a nice bright color. It will make your outlook on life just a little bit more optimistic, which is key to starting to feel better.

DealDash On: Winter Illnesses

Image result for winter illnesses

Staying well and not succumbing to a winter illness can be a tough proposition. There are germs everywhere. Here is a quick guide from DealDash to winter illnesses to try to avoid.

No one likes coughing, fevers, dry eyes, sniffles, and headaches, but sadly most people have some (or all) of these annoying symptoms every year due to getting sick in the winter time. People who are healthy at all other times of the year seems to end up sick in the winter, possibly due to being cooped up inside, sharing germs that the kids bring home from school, and many other reasons. Here is a short guide from DealDash of some of the illnesses that you should try to watch out for this winter.

  • Common cold
A cold is a viral infection that has a runny nose, and/or nasal congestion, a sore throat, a cough, and also possibly includes a  headache. You might also have a low-grade fever when you first contract a cold. Unfortunately, Colds can be caused by many different types of viruses, so it’s possible to get one after another, and there is no vaccine against a cold. Luckily, the winter months are usually when most people contract a cold. Most colds clear themselves up about in approximately 7-10 days. As I said, there’s no cure for the cold, just rest, hydration, and OTC medication to manage your symptoms.
  • Bronchiolitis
Bronchiolitis is a common viral respiratory infection, especially among children, but anyone can contract Bronchiolitis. However, it is most often seen in younger children. Nasal congestion, cough, low-grade fevers, and wheezing are the most common symptoms seen with bronchiolitis. It can mimic a common cold in the beginning, and then can progress into the more serious bronchiolitis with wheezing, difficulty breathing, and dehydration. Just like it’s cousin, the cold, the symptoms with bronchiolitis tend to worsen over the first few days and then begin to improve. It’s very common to have a lingering cough after a bout of bronchiolitis.

Influenza
Influenza or “the Flu” begins with a high fever, cough, sore throat, headache, and also muscle aches and pains. The muscle aches and pains are the clue that you are dealing with the flu instead of a cold. The fever with the flu can last up to 5 days. The flu isn’t usually harmful to the average healthy adult, but it can be dangerous for babies, kids, the elderly, and people with already compromised immune systems. The best way to avoid the flu is to make sure that you and everyone in your family gets their annual flu vaccine.

  • Strep Throat
Strep throat can be contracted by anyone, but is most often seen in school-aged children and their parents. Strep throat usually includes a sore throat, headache, and can also include a stomach ache. Some people who contract strep will get high fevers or vomit. Luckily, strep throat does not cause cold symptoms or coughing.  It can usually be easily treated with antibiotics; sometimes there is a re-occurrence of strep throat shortly after. On a personal note, when I was in high school I repeatedly contracted strep throat, and they removed my tonsils!

DealDash Deals with a Cold

Image result for sick

When you or a family member is sick with a cold it can be a miserable time. Here are the steps to take to be on the road to recovery.

Obviously no one likes to be sick, that’s why we take precautions such as washing our hands and using hand sanitizer. However, we just can’t keep the germs at bay forever, eventually someone is going to sneeze on you, or your kids might bring home germs from school. DealDash is here to help you feel better more quickly.

  • Get a humidifier. Humidifiers are great for when you have a stuffy, congested nose. When you are so congested that you’re having trouble sleeping it’s going to take longer for you to be well again. You can also get an additive to use with the humidifier to produce soothing vapors to help you breathe even better.
  • Make sure you get enough sleep. As I mentioned before, sleep is extremely important to send you on the path to recovery. I know it can feel a bit strange and maybe even a little embarrassing to be an adult taking a nap in the middle of the day, but if you’re sick you need your rest. Try to nap as much as you can, and not worry about the stigma attached to adults sleeping during the day. If you don’t have a chance to take a nap during the day due to work or children, be sure to go to bed as early as possible, even if it’s right after dinner.
  • Eat healthy. Speaking of dinner, be sure that you are eating only fresh healthy foods and no processed or junk foods while you are sick. It’s better for your health not to eat them at all, of course, but it’s especially important while you are sick to try to eat as “cleanly” as possible.
  • Drink lots of water. Even more importantly than eating well is to be sure that you are drinking extra water. Your body uses the extra water to help flush out your system and get you on the road to recovery much faster than someone who is dehydrated. Stay hydrated, stay healthy.

I hope that you have found this article helpful for a fast recovery when you’re down with a cold. While you’re spending some extra time relaxing in bed, be sure that you check out DealDash. DealDash has things like thermometers, heated blankets, and humidifiers to make you feel much better. Just click this link right here and you will be able to browse the auctions on DealDash. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!

DealDash Helps: Visiting at the Hospital

If you find yourself visiting someone in the hospital you might want to bring them something to cheer them up. Flowers are nice, but let’s look at other options.

Depending on why the person is in the hospital you might want to bring them some of their favorite food. Everyone complains about the taste of hospital food, so why not cheer up your friend or family member with something that they love to eat? If you get the OK that it’s fine to bring your friend some food be sure to bring something that doesn’t have to be eaten right away. For example, ice cream would be a bad choice. A large portion of time spent in the hospital is spent talking to nurses, doctors, and aides and getting poked, blood drawn, and vitals taken. If you happen to arrive at an inopportune moment you won’t want the delicious treat that you brought melting or otherwise going bad if it can’t be eaten immediately.

If your friend is going to be in the hospital for more than a day or so they would probably appreciate a nice soft bathrobe and slippers. The scratchy johnnies and slipper socks that they give you when you are admitted to the hospital are adequate but a nice fresh soft robe and slippers would bring a smile to your friend’s face. If their illness or injury doesn’t require the doctors and nurses to frequently check their bodies then you might even want to bring them a set of pajamas as well. Try to get the type that is pants and a button up top, it will be easier for the doctors and nurses to check them when they need it.

If you’re visiting a child in the hospital they would appreciate a toy or game, of course, but don’t forget about their parents as well. There are very few things that are worse than your child bring in the hospital so Mom and Dad could use some cheering up as well. Photos or scrapbooks of friends, pets, and family would also be a gesture that would be very much appreciated. If the child is older they will enjoy looking at them if they feel homesick.

VIsiting a friend or family member in the hospital is never a fun occasion (unless they just had a healthy new baby, of course!) but it’s important to be sure to make time in your schedule to go visit your friends or family in the hospital to boost their spirits. If you are looking for a lovely gift to bring when you go visiting be sure to check out DealDash. They have nice gifts as well as gift cards that could be useful for the other family members staying in the hospital with the patient. Check out DealDash and I’m sure that you’ll find something that you love. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!
