Baby Oil – Not Just for Babies, DealDash

DealDash

There are a surprising amount of uses for baby oil that don’t involve babies. Here are a few from DealDash.

Baby oil is a simple formula – it’s approximately 98% mineral oil and 2% fragrance. So basically, baby oil is a lightly scented mineral oil combination. Mineral oil is good for the skin, it won’t clog your pores because it sits on top of your skin and creates a protective barrier for your skin. It also will help your skin keep its moisture in the winter. The only time when mineral oil isn’t good for your skin is if you attempt to use it as a tanning agent by rubbing it on your skin and sitting in the sun. This is dangerous and I don’t advise it. There are many more uses for baby oil, here are some from DealDash.

Use as a Massage Oil

There’s no need to buy expensive massage oils when you have some baby oil on hand. Baby oil is around $2-$4, and massage oils start at $10 and go up in price from there, so baby oil is the clear choice if you’re massaging on a budget. If you love massages, have you seen the neck and foot massagers that are offered on DealDash? There are also massage chairs available as well.

Gum in Your Hair? No Problem!

If you or your child has the bad luck to have gum in your hair, it’s not a problem. Baby oil can fix that problem for you. Simply take some baby oil in your hands and apply it to the gum in your hair. Work it around, and add more baby oil if needed. The gum should come out with little difficulty.

Eye Makeup Remover

Oils are great for removing eye makeup, even the waterproof type. Personally, I prefer coconut oil to remove eye makeup because I like the smell. However, believe it or not, some people don’t like the smell of coconut. If you’re one of those people, then maybe baby oil is your eye makeup removal solution. Just put some on a cotton ball or cotton round, and gently rub off all of the eye makeup. After it’s gone, follow up with a second cotton ball or cotton round to get off the remainder.

Temporary Tattoo Remover

I’m guessing that most of the people who are reading this blog are past the temporary tattoo stage, but if you have a child or grandchild who likes them, then read on. Baby oil is excellent for removing a temporary tattoo. Just get a cotton ball, apply the baby oil, and let it sit on the tattoo for a minute or two. It should come off without too much scrubbing.

DealDash Prepares Your Skin for Makeup

DealDash

Your beautiful skin is perfect just how it is – but sometimes it’s fun to wear makeup. Here are some tips for preparing skin for makeup from DealDash.

Firstly, I realize that makeup isn’t for everyone, but sometimes it’s fun to try out new looks. Before you put your makeup on, however, it’s important to make sure that your skin is clean and healthy before you put lots of extra things on it. In addition to being your faithful DealDash blogger, I am also a certified aesthetician, so I am well-versed in this area. Read on for more information.

Cleanse Your Face

Before putting anything on your skin you’ll want to cleanse it. You don’t need to buy any fancy or expensive cleansers. You just want to make sure that you are not using bar soap to cleanse your skin. This will dry it out very quickly. Go to your local big box store, supermarket, or pharmacy and pick any cleanser that claims to be gentle or for sensitive skin. You’ll want to use this daily, so make sure that you like the smell of it before you buy it.

Use a Gentle Facial Scrub

If you’re using the classic “Apricot” or “Walnut Shell” exfoliating scrub I would throw it away. Those are very harsh on your skin and can cause micro-abrasions in your skin. Pick out (or make!) a facial sugar scrub. These are much more gentle and very effective. I would suggest using a sugar scrub 2-3 times per week.

Use a Facial Serum

A serum is basically a vitamin for your face. They come in many different types such as anti-aging, Vitamin C, and hyaluronic acid. These are a liquidy and lightweight formula that deeply penetrates the skin. These are not a replacement for a regular moisturizer, they go on before a moisturizer and are not typically used daily.

Moisturize, Daily and Nightly

Ideally, you will use two moisturizers – a lightweight daytime one with SPF 30 and a nighttime one that is thicker. If you’re on a tight budget and only want to purchase one, then I would go with a non-SPF medium-weight moisturizer. Do keep in mind, though, that if you are going to be out in the sun you need to apply an SPF to stay safe.

Use a Makeup Primer

Finally, the final step before applying makeup is to use a primer. A primer is a clear gel substance that fills in the tiny imperfections in the skin to make it appear smoother. It’s just a temporary solution, but it will make your makeup look flawless! Make sure that the one you get is dimethicone-based, as these have the best results. After applying your makeup primer you’re free to apply your makeup and enjoy the benefits of beautiful, healthy skin.

DealDash Does Summer Skincare

DealDash

Caring for your skin in the summer is just as important as caring for it in the winter. Follow these tips and tricks from DealDash to have the best summer skin.

Summer skin can be delicate, just like winter skin. One of the most important things that you can do for yourself is to take care of your skin. You can’t go back and erase the damage that you have done to it with sunburns and lack of care, but you can go forward and take the best care of your skin that you can. There are many products on the market that can help you with that, but I’ll tell you about the most important product of all…Sunscreen.

Using Sunscreen is Very Important

You need to be using an SPF sunscreen in the morning, even if you are only going to be out in the car running errands. 30 to 50 SPF is the ideal number for most people for daily use. Thankfully, a lot of moisturizers, foundation, or face powders have 15 to 30 SPF built right in, there’s no need to double up unless you are planning on being out in the sun for a longer period of time, such as taking a walk, going to the playground with your kids, or of course the beach. If you’re going to mostly be in the car running around from store to store, then that SPF in your moisturizer should be fine for you.

Protect Your Skin With a Hat

The next summer skincare tip is to be sure that you wear a hat or visor if you’re going to be in the sun for a longer period of time, even if you have on SPF. If you’re planning on going to the beach or lake, be sure that you wear a hat or visor as well as re-applying your 30 or higher SPF sunscreen every few hours. Sunlight is great for your health and getting the Vitamin D that it provides is important, but please make sure that you apply SPF on a regular basis to protect your skin and keep it looking healthy.

Wash the Sunscreen Off

So you’ve been using your sunscreen every day, that’s great! However, please don’t forget to wash it off in the evening. It’s always a smart idea to wash your face at the end of the day, even if you don’t have any sunscreen or makeup on. However, please be sure not to use regular soap. Regular soap is very drying to the skin. If you don’t have any facial wash, then plain water will work just fine if you have a bare face.

DealDash Helps: Treat a Sunburn

DealDash Sunburn Help

Everyone has had a sunburn at some point. Here are some tips and tricks to help you heal your skin, from DealDash.

The bright summer sun, tanning beds, or any other source of ultraviolet light can cause a sunburn. Prevention is much better than aftercare, of course, but sometimes you just can’t avoid a sunburn. Sadly once you get a bad sunburn the skin damage is permanent, but there are treatments to heal your sore skin, prevent infection, and reduce pain. Here are some of the best treatments available, from DealDash.

Home Remedies

If you have a mild sunburn there’s no need for a trip to the doctor or any harsh chemicals. If you have a mild sunburn it’s very easy to treat at home. No matter which treatment you use on your skin you can take a nice cool shower beforehand to soothe your skin. Just be sure not to rub the skin when you get out – just pat gently with a towel to dry.

Aloe is great for healing any burn, either sunburn or a cooking burn. You can use aloe from an aloe plant or 100% aloe gel from the store. Just apply multiple times per day to your burn.

You can also try tea bags. Yes, like the kind you make a drink from! You can brew up a few tea bags, and when the water has cooled you can soak a clean cloth in the tea and apply it to your burns. Alternately, you can drink the tea and apply the tea bags to your burn instead. Don’t wash it off, just let it dry and leave it overnight. Be aware that tea can stain light-colored clothing and sheets.

Medical Intervention

If your burn is more serious you might want to think about going to see your doctor or going to a walk-in clinic. Your doctor will most likely tell you to get an over-the-counter (OTC) medication such as Ibuprofen or aspirin. These medications can lessen the pain and can also reduce inflammation.

Your doctor also might suggest getting an OTC pain-relieving spray. Sprays that contain benzocaine, lidocaine, or pramoxine have a numbing effect that may help with the pain. However, please don’t use these sprays or medications on small children. Always consult a doctor if your child has a sunburn that is very red and painful.

Prevention

Prevention is better than trying to cure after the fact. Always wear a sunblock in the summer when you’re going out. Be sure that it’s at least SPF 30, and if you are planning on being outdoors for an extended amount of time then you will need to re-apply every few hours. Bring it with you or keep an extra bottle in the car. Your skin will thank you.

DealDash Skin: Minimizing Pores

DealDash skin pores

Pores. Everyone has them, and it’s an important part of skin care to take care of them. Here are some tips and suggestions from DealDash.

Contrary to popular belief, pores don’t grow and shrink at will. Rather, pores appear larger when they are dirty and clogged. Don’t believe claims of skin cleansers “shrinking” pores, they are just cleaning them out so they appear smaller. Here are some ideas from DealDash to keep your pores looking their best.

Take Off That Makeup

Removing your makeup at the end of the day is an important part of skin care. If you don’t wear makeup, you can skip this section. Removing your makeup before bed is important, your skin does most of it’s rejuvenating and healing at night when you’re sleeping, so be sure that you have a clean face to make things go more smoothly.

Take off your makeup using a makeup remover or a micellar water cleanser. Personally, I use a micellar water cleanser all over my face, and then remove my eye makeup with a makeup remover. After doing these two steps I splash water on my face and blot dry with a towel before putting on my serum, eye cream, and night time moisturizer.

Exfoliation = Smaller Appearing Pores

Using an exfoliant is an excellent way to keep your pores clean and therefore appearing smaller. Skip the drugstore scrub made of nut shells or fruit pits, and get one that is made with sugar or microbeads. The scrubs that are made up of the nut shells or fruit pits can scratch and injure your skin. Sugar scrubs are much better because the sugar just melts away and won’t scratch your delicate skin.

You can even make your own scrub! Make a cup of green tea and add a tablespoon of sugar and a tablespoon of honey after it’s cooled down a bit so it’s warm to the touch but not hot. Smooth the mixture over your face and gently rub it in circles to exfoliate your face. Rinse off with plain water and put dry.

Don’t Skip the Moisturizer

Moisturizing your skin morning and night is an important part of skin care and keeping your pores clean and healthy. After cleansing your skin morning and night be sure to apply a layer of moisturizer. I prefer a thinner moisturizer with SPF 30 during the day,\ and a thicker moisturizer at night. Taking good care of your skin by cleansing, using a scrub, and a moisturizer will keep your skin and pores looking beautifully healthy.

DealDash Skin Care – Makeup Removal

dealdash makeup removal

Taking off your makeup nightly is a very important part of skin care. Let DealDash show you some tips and techniques.

Taking off your makeup nightly is one way to be sure that your skin stay healthy, glowing, and blemish-free. Washing your face with soap can leave your skin dry, itchy, and tight. Soap is a definite no-no when washing your face, especially in the winter. Read on to hear how to remove your makeup in a more healthy way for your skin, from DealDash.

Step 1

The first thing that you should do when taking off your makeup at night is to take off any eye makeup and mascara. You can use any makeup remover for this, the kind that contains oil, or oil-free for people who already have oily skin. If you don’t like the chemicals in the eye makeup remover you can also use coconut oil! Just warm up a little in your hand, apply with a cotton ball, and wipe off.

Step 2

Next, you can wash your face using a variety of products. You can use a regular cleanser, makeup wipes, or even micellar water. Micellar water is my favorite way to remove cleanse my face. It’s so easy to use and doesn’t even require water. You can use it on all areas of your face, including eyes and lips. Simply apply the micellar water to a cotton round, cotton ball, q-tip, or even a tissue to the face, eyes, and lips. Then wipe off makeup without rubbing.

Step 3

Finally, you should apply a toner to your face. No matter how well you cleanse your face and remove your makeup there is usually a small amount of residue left behind. Toner removes the leftovers and returns your skin to the proper PH balance. Simply wet a cotton round or cotton ball with toner and wipe your whole face including your neck. There’s no rinsing required! After applying a toner you should follow up with the moisturizer of your choice.

DealDash Winter Skin Fixes – FACE

DealDash Winter Skin Fixes

Last week we talked about some winter skin fixes for your lips. Today we are going to expand to the rest of the face, neck, and decolletage.

As we talked about last week, the winter weather wrecks havoc on your otherwise healthy and vibrant skin. No one is immune to this unless you live somewhere that the weather is nice year-round – but then you have to worry more about sun damage, so we should all take the best care of our skin that we can, no matter where we live.

Speaking of sun damage, even though it’s cold and snowy outside the sun can still damage your skin if you go outside without any sunscreen on. However, in the winter most people are more covered up anyway, so you can probably get away with using an SPF 15, 20, or 30 that is built in to your regular daytime moisturizer. If you aren’t wearing a regular daytime moisturizer, it’s time to start.

Moisturizer on your face is key to keeping nice-looking skin year-round. You should preferably have a daytime moisturizer with SPF in it, and a thicker moisturizer for night time. Yes, men too! Men get sun damage just like women, and can also suffer from wrinkles, age spots, and even skin cancer. Everyone needs sunscreen in all seasons.

Beating the rough dry skin of winter can be difficult, but advances in sonic brushes have made things a lot easier. DealDash has a sonic brush kit that has everything you need to tame your winter skin. The kit includes everything that you need to get started on your way to smoother winter skin:

  • Handheld sonic unit
  • 4 batteries
  • Body polishing brush
  • Facial brush
  • Facial buffer
  • Pumice for feet, elbows, and extra dry patches of skin

These brush kits from DealDash come in a variety of colors including pink, purple, and white. I personally have won a few of these kits. They are awesome to use on yourself, but they also make wonderful presents for just about anyone on your list.

If you’d like to fix your dry winter skin, be sure to pick up the brush kit from DealDash. It’s great for your face, neck, decolletage, and if you switch out the brush heads you can use it anywhere on your body. Visit DealDash now to pick up a kit. DealDash’s Winter Skin Fixes – LIPS

DealDash Winter Skin Fixes

It’s Winter, so let’s face it – we’ve all got dry skin. Here are some Winter skin fixes for lips from DealDash to keep your lips feeling smooth til Spring.

Everyone get dry lips in the winter, even kids that normally have nice, smooth baby lips. The cold outside mixing with the dry air from heating inside just sucks all of the moisture right out of your skin. Luckily, there are plenty of small things that you can do to improve the look and texture of your winter lips. Here are some Winter skin fixes for lips from DealDash.

Your lips are sure to get dry, chapped, and cracked if you spend any time outdoors this winter. There are a few things that you can do to help soothe and even prevent the worst of the cracks from happening. The number one thing that you need to do for your lips in the winter is to keep some sort of balm on them anytime you go outside. It doesn’t matter if it’s a .99 Chapstick or the fanciest lip balm that they make, just make sure that your lips are covered when you’re outdoors in the cold weather.

Next, in keeping with the lips covered track, it would be a smart idea to put a dab of Vaseline on your lips at night before you go to sleep. Your skin does most of its repairs when you’re sleeping, so help it along with some ultra soothing Vaseline.

Finally, I would suggest exfoliating your lips every few days with an old toothbrush. Make sure that the toothbrush has soft or medium bristles, wet it slightly, and rub gently on your cracked, dry lips. Follow up with Vaseline for maximum effect.

Another thing to think about when trying to prevent dry and cracked winter skin is to get a humidifier for your bedroom. If you keep a humidifier running while you are sleeping at night it can keep your skin moist and help prevent chapping and cracking.

DealDash has an assortment of humidifiers to choose from. Go visit DealDash and browse the humidifiers. DealDash has great bargains every day. Just click this link to visit DealDash now. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!

DealDash Skin Care: Vitamin C

Every so often a new trend comes around in skin care. Right now the “it” trend for skin is products with Vitamin C. It’s delicious and nutritious for your skin.

“Anti-aging” “Lightening” “Brightening” these are just a few of the claims associated with using skin care products with Vitamin C in them. How true are these claims? Let’s take a closer look and see.

Vitamin C’s skin benefits are mostly due to its benefits in supporting healthy collagen. Collagen works closely with elastin to support the skin. In layman’s terms, it comprises the framework that provides form, firmness, and strength to the skin, while elastin is what gives skin its flexibility. Think of collagen as the peanut butter to elastin’s jelly. Unfortunately, the amount of collagen in your skin declines with age, and its accelerated by many different factors such as sunlight, smoking, free radicals, and inflammation. Luckily, vitamin C can help a bit with your collagen. When vitamin C is topically applied to the skin, it provides a skin-rejuvenating effect by improving collagen synthesis in the skin that slows down with aging, and also limits skin damage from free radicals.

Does it have to be topical? Yes. While ingesting vitamin C is definitely healthy for your body it doesn’t really do much to help your skin. Amazingly, when you apply topical vitamin C to the skin it is 20 times more effective than oral ingestion! Don’t toss out your oranges and grapefruits just yet, though. Vitamin C plays an important part of keeping your body healthy inside as well. Why choose? Ingest and topically apply vitamin C for excellent health inside and out.

Now that you know that vitamin C can help you with your collagen, you might be wondering how you should incorporate Vitamin C-based skin care products into your daily routine. Vitamin C-based products come in a variety of different types of formulas. You can find vitamin C in creams, lotions, serums, face oils, and other types of treatments. Pay attention to the label, look for a concentration of vitamin C at about 10-20%. Anything less and it won’t be as effective, and any more and you may irritate your skin.

I hope that this article has given you a few new ideas about skin care. DealDash has some great beauty and personal care items in their Fashion, Health, and Beauty category. Visit DealDash at this link right here and see all of the beauty products available. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!

Spa Sonic Skin Care Face and Body Polisher 7-Piece Kit, Pink

DealDash Presents: Skin Care

As a certified aesthetician I am constantly being asked by friends and family for skin care tips. Now you can get the benefit of my esthetic training without having to pretend that you enjoy my cooking!

My number one important tip for having beautiful skin is directed mostly towards the ladies that wear make up – make sure that you wash your face before you go to sleep, and be sure that there’s nothing other than moisturizer on your face when you go to sleep. No make up of course, but make sure that there’s not any lingering SPF sunscreen from the daytime, either. You can use a wash cloth, sponge, or even a fancy sonic cleaner to wash your face at night.
Even if the products that you are using say that they are non comedogenic (non pore clogging) they still aren’t good for your skin to keep on overnight when you are sleeping. Not only are they bad to keep on your skin while you are sleeping, they aren’t great for your pillow case, either!
Spa Sonic Skin Care Face and Body Polisher 7-Piece Kit, Pink
My next tip is even though you need to make sure that you go to sleep with no SPF sunscreen on your face be sure to put it on in the morning! Everyone should be using a SPF sunscreen in the morning, even if you are only going to be out in the sunlight for an hour here and there. 30 SPF is the ideal number for most people for daily use, and check your make up, ladies – a lot of moisturizer, foundation, or powder have SPF built-in, there’s no need to double up unless you are planning on being out in the sun for a longer period of time.
Speaking of the sun, my next tip is to be sure that you wear a hat or visor if you’re going to be in the sun for a longer period of time. For example if you’re going to the beach or lake, be sure that you wear a hat as well as re-applying your SPF sunscreen every few hours. Sunlight is great for your health and getting the Vitamin D that it provides is important, but please make sure that you apply SPF daily to protect your skin and keep it looking healthy.
So as you can see, the most important part of having great skin is prevention. If you’re looking for some skin care or spa items be sure to check out DealDash at this link right here. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!
