DealDash Encourages Kids to Exercise

DealDash

After eating that big Thanksgiving dinner you might want to talk to them about exercise. Here are some tips from DealDash.

The association of physical exercise with mental benefits is something we all know. This also includes your children as well! physical activity keeps us in a good mood, improves our cognitive abilities and generally keeps us awake, smart, young, active. These are good habits that can help your children out for their lifetime. Read on for more information from DealDash.

Some Benefits of Exercise for Kids

The benefits of physical activity reach the classroom in the form of improved student performance. Some studies also suggest that for children, physical exercise helps them to concentrate better and be less impulsive. This is especially true of kids who have problems with attention and focus.

A study of overweight children found that enrolling them in a course of 40 minutes of aerobic exercise per day improved their executive function. This is the thing that influences concentration, planning ability and distraction resistance.

Another recent study of more than 220 school-age children found that those who performed about 60 minutes of daily physical exercise in extracurricular activities scored best on the tests of concentration and cognitive flexibility. This is the ability to switch from one task to another while maintaining speed and accuracy.

Getting Kids to Play Sports

Although studies show these positive effects of exercise on the mind in children, more research is still needed to determine exactly what type and how much exercise is needed. In any case, continuing physical activity adapted to each child’s abilities is part of a healthy lifestyle. It is highly recommended for children to become accustomed from an early age to include it in their daily life.

To achieve this, the best thing to do is to make it a fun part of your day. This means letting them choose the activity or sport they like best and avoiding turning it into a source of pressure. The variety of physical activities at your fingertips is so wide that it’s best to let them try and choose what they enjoy the most. Some suggestions include swimming, hiking, soccer, softball, or even just riding bikes around the neighborhood.

However, you have to find the right balance between motivation and pressure when it comes to sports. Giving him the support he needs to stay in a team, for example, but not making that support conditional on winning victories. Try to encourage playing sports for the fun of it, and not necessarily for trophies.

DealDash: How Does Exercise Help Depression?

DealDash

Can exercise help depression? You bet! Here is more information from DealDash.

Exercise is great for your body and soul. Getting into motion triggers a series of reactions in our body that results in a multitude of benefits, such as protection against heart disease, improvement of our respiratory capacity, and many other wonderful benefits. One of these other benefits is relief from depression. DealDash has more information for you, read on to find out.

Psychological Effects of Exercise

As for its psychological effects, intense exercise causes our body to release endorphins. If you aren’t familiar with endorphins, they are a chemical substance that make us feel good. They are also the cause the rider’s or runner’s high after a race, for example. Let’s face it, most people would never get through a marathon with these tiny little helpers called endorphins.

Numb the Pain With Endorphins

In addition, endorphins have an analgesic effect that reduces the sensation of pain. They can also have a sedative and relaxing effect that helps us to sleep. This is the explanation of a happy general state that we call feeling good. THese endorphins that you receive from exercise can also help patients with depression to better control and manage their symptoms.

Endorphins Not Enough?

Additionally, moderate and sustained exercise over time is also beneficial because it promotes the production of neurotrophins. Neurotrophins are proteins essential for the maintenance and growth of neurons and their connections. Some research suggests that people with depression have the smallest area of the hypothalamus, so sports would help them re-establish neural connections and feel better.

The First Step is Getting Started

One of the usual symptoms of depression is apathy and disinterest in what surrounds the patient. Therefore there is a lack of willingness to start new projects and routines. This makes fitness training seem a little unappealing, but there are some things that can make it a little easier.

Firstly, there is some consensus that any exercise is worthwhile, so choose what you like best. This might be running, biking, going to dance classes, yoga, swimming, or hiking. Look for a workout class if you want to have a more organized system or join the gym and try different things on your own if you prefer.

Next, take the opportunity to get out of the house. Training at home is always an option, but it may be a good excuse to leave home and look for a green and pleasant place to train. If you’re not a fan of regimented exercise, a brisk walk or easy hike in the park can do you a world of good.

Finally, meet other people. Lack of desire to socialize is another symptom of depression, but it’s also a way to not get lost in loneliness and help maintain bonds. You can find a group or association that practices the sport you are interested in near you or a center where you can receive dance classes. That way you’ll spend some time in the company of people who have similar interests as you do.

Thanks so much for reading this DealDash article on exercise and depression. Also remember, if you’re feeling depressed for more than a few weeks at a time then it’s very important to go see a doctor. You might just have a simple hormonal imbalance that can be corrected.

DealDash Helps Your Family Be More Active

DealDash

Most families could be more active. Here are some helpful tips and hints from DealDash.

These days, more than ever, it seems like most families are glued into their electronics. Also, there is little time reserved for actually moving around and getting some exercise. Ergo, here are a few things that you can do to make it much simpler for kids and adults of all ages to get in the exercise that they need during the day, from DealDash.

Do it Together

First, you need to make exercise a group activity whenever possible. This will not only benefit your child but you and the rest of your family as well. If your kids see you get excited about getting more movement in will help them get excited, too. Take some time and think about what kind of things that you can do as a family to get more exercise in your life. If possible, have everyone in the family make some suggestions of activities, too.

Make it Fun

Next, it’s important for kids to think that exercise and moving around is fun. Want to get your kids extremely excited exercise? Plan a treasure hunt for them! It doesn’t have to be anything too complicated, just something that will get their minds and bodies working. You just need to plan a small surprise for the treasure at the end and you are all set to have some fun. If possible, try not to have the treasure be a form of candy or other junk food. Try a new fun water bottle, a jump rope, chalk, or bubbles. This would be a much healthier prize.

Chores = Exercise

Finally, turning your household chores into games is yet another thing that you can do. This will get more exercise into your kids’ life. By making chores active and fun you will be helping them learn the responsibility of doing chores. Also, they will also learn to love getting active. If your kids are smaller, say preschool and elementary school age, they probably like to help you anyway. Let them do the dusting and even the vacuuming. They are great for stretching and getting in some aerobic exercise.

In conclusion, these are really just a few of the things that you can do in order to get more exercise into your family’s life. All it takes is a little research and you are sure to find something you and your kids would enjoy doing. By helping them learn the lesson of how great it is to get up and be active you will see that you will be helping them to be much healthier and happier people as they get older.

DealDash Plays Indoor Sports for Kids

dealdash indoor games

Having little kids is exhausting. Here are some more fun indoor sports you can play to tire them out.

By this time everyone probably knows that I have three little kids, two of which are a handful! There are a few upcoming days off of school before February Vacation starts later on in the month, so I am trying to be prepared. Here are a few fun indoor sports ideas that I have come up with to keep the kids busy. If you’re a busy parent or grandparent, you’ll want to try these, too. Let DealDash show you some tips and tricks to keep the little ones busy.

Indoor Mini Golf

Indoor mini golf requires a few materials, so when you get some free time you’ll want to hit the dollar store. You’ll need some cheapie plastic golf clubs – 1 for each kid. If your dollar store doesn’t have them you can make do with the long cardboard tubes that wrapping paper comes on. You’ll also need some golf balls if your kids are a bit older, or ping pong balls if they’re younger. And boxes. Lots of boxes of varying sizes.

Basically, the idea is to make an indoor mini golf course using the boxes. Simply cut out a little door for them to hit the ball into. You can place the boxes in different areas of your house, make little ramps that they have to shoot the ball up, and little tunnels to shoot the ball through.

The best part about this game is that the boxes can be rearranged as many times as you like, so it can be played for hours. You can also save the boxes in a closet or basement for the next time they want to play, and it will be a lot less preparation next time.

Indoor Bowling

Continuing the fun, indoor bowling is up next. This is another game that you can use items around the house or go out and purchase a lightweight bowling set. I prefer to get crafty (and frugal) and make my own things.

A great way to make your indoor bowling pins are water bottles. I suggest saving up your empty water bottles for a couple of weeks until you have 10 of them. Once you have 10 you can either paint them white, let the kids decorate them, or just leave them as they are. It’s your choice, but I find painting them with acrylic craft paint to be the most fun and entertaining for the kids.

For older kids, fill up the water bottles about halfway to give them some weight, and line them up at the end of your hallway. Place a line of painter’s tape or washi tape as the starting line. Grab a medium-sized indoor ball and start bowling! For younger kids you can fill them only a tiny bit for stability, and use less bottles if you prefer.

See who can bowl the first strike! The youngest player gets to go first. Have fun!

DealDash Encourages New Hobbies

DealDash Hobbies

Hobbies are a great stress-reliever and can help you feel more positive about the rest of your life. Let DealDash help you explore some options.

You might already have a hobby or two that you enjoy, such as bidding on DealDash. However, expanding your horizons, learning new things, and doing things differently can help your brain stay young. Here are some tips and ideas from DealDash to help you explore some new hobbies in your spare time.

How Do I Find a New Hobby?

Firstly, I realize that finding a new hobby, especially if you’re an older person, can seem a little daunting. However, finding a new hobby doesn’t have to be difficult.

To find a new hobby, why not look around you, and see what hobbies you have right now. If you already have a hobby that you enjoy, why not expand on it? For example, if you like scrapbooking, why not pick up a camera and try your hand at photography? Once you have learned how to take great pictures you can use them in your scrapbooks. Or if you currently enjoy tennis as a hobby, why not take up golf as well?

If You Don’t Have Any Current Hobbies…

If you don’t have any current hobbies that you can expand on, why not go to the non-fiction section at the bookstore and see what peaks your interest? Maybe the cookbooks interest you, or perhaps woodworking, or even war history. No matter what non-fiction book you’re drawn to there is a hobby that will complement it.

Let Yourself Explore the Options

Lastly, if you pick up a new hobby that turns out to be a dud, don’t worry about it. Give it an honest chance, but if after a few weeks you’re not enjoying it at all feel free to move on to something else. Now, that’s not to say you should give up on something just because you’re not good at it right away, but if your new hobby doesn’t give you any joy then choose something else with a clear conscience.

I hope that you found this new DealDash article on expanding your hobbies helpful. If you are shopping for a camera, sports item, or other, check DealDash first. DealDash Winter Dates

Image result for winter date ideas

Winter is not typically a time that’s great for dating if you live somewhere that gets a lot of snow. Here are some indoor and outdoor date ideas from DealDash.

Burrrrrr! Who wants to leave the house when it’s cold and snowy outside? Well, if you’ve got a hot date, maybe it will motivate you to take off those fuzzy slippers and put on some boots instead. DealDash has some fun and relatively inexpensive winter date ideas.

Ice Skating

I’m personally not a fan of ice skating, but lots of people love it! If you look at the happy couple above you can see that they are having a lot of fun out on the ice even though they might not be the best skaters. There’s a learning curve to ice skating, maybe you could challenge your date to learn how to ice skate well by the end of the winter.

Movies

Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are all times when great new movies usually come out. Get your fill of popcorn and romantic comedies at the movie theater this winter. Pro tip: Check the theaters near you, any theaters have discounted evening movies on Tuesdays or Wednesdays during the week.

Tubing

Tubing is the grown-up version of sledding down a hill. Normally you trudge up a giant hill with your tube in hand, similar to the water-tubing rides at the water park in the summer. It’s a lot of fun and doesn’t require a lot of skill like skiing or snowboarding does.

Make Cookies

Cookies aren’t just for Christmas! Get out that KitchenAid stand mixer and whip up some delicious cookies with your date. And even better, the second part of the date is eating the cookies! If you’re not much for cookies, how about pie instead? The first crops of strawberries and blueberries seem to be arriving at the supermarket right about now, get some and make a delicious pie.

Hockey Game

There’s no more appropriate sport for winter than hockey. Get out there and show some team spirit and go see a hockey game on your date. Do matching face paint for bonus couple’s points!

I hope that you found these winter date ideas from DealDash fun! For winter snow removal tools such as shovels, scrapers, and snow blowers check DealDash first. DealDash has everything you need. DealDash Avoids Damaging Exercise

Everyone talks about how healthy exercise is for your body. However, did you know that there are some exercises that can damage and age your body prematurely?

When someone says “exercise” you probably picture someone in the gym in excellent health, as fit as can be, and enjoying the activity. This is only one side of the coin, though, because believe it or not exercise can harm your body and age you prematurely if you aren’t careful and aware how you are treating your body.

For example, if your favorite workout includes exercises that put a lot of strain on your shoulders such as overhead presses with free weights you might want to limit them or do alternate exercises as you age, because rotator cuff injuries, torn tendons, and other shoulder injuries become much more commonplace. Alternately, you might want to try a lower weight but more reps. This will still give you a great workout but reduce the chance of a shoulder injury.

Another workout that you might want to limit is HIIT (High-intensity interval training), even though it can provide you an awesome workout it can put a lot of strain and wear on your body. If you insist on doing HIIT, then try to limit it to only a couple of times per week with a few days in between sessions to let your body heal itself.

Speaking of putting a lot of strain and wear on your body, exercising strenuously every day can be counter-intuitive, because before long you will most likely suffer an injury and have to wait days or weeks for it to heal. It’s wonderful to want to move your body every day, try alternating cardio, weight training, and something as simple and easy as walking or riding your bike every day.

If you are looking for some new exercise equipment for your home so you can skip driving to the gym every day check out DealDash. DealDash offers auctions on a large variety of work out and sports equipment such as treadmills and exercise bikes, but they also have golfing equipment, tennis equipment, and more. Just check out the Hobbies, Toys, Outdoors, and Games category and see how much you can save! Good luck and happy bidding everyone!
