DealDash

Are you thinking about starting a veggie garden this year? Here are some great plants for beginners, from DealDash.

Having a garden is a wonderful hobby. Planting vegetables is one of the most popular plants to have in your garden. Sometimes it takes awhile for vegetables to grow and a strategy to help them grow. Some vegetables are perfect for planting for beginners. If you are just starting out with gardening, the following vegetables to plant are a great way to start out. Read on for more information from DealDash.

Potatoes

Potatoes are a fun crop to grow during the late March and February. You plant potatoes by using a potato bag that is partly filled with some compost. When you see that the roots of the potatoes are beginning to grow, you should cover them with more compost.  Potatoes are one of the easiest vegetables to grow from your home. Not only are the easy to grow, they are very prolific, and you will have tons of potatoes on your hands in no time.

Peas

Peas are the perfect vegetable to grow for beginners during cooler weather. You should sow the seeds into the ground during March and June. Soon you will enjoy the delicious flavor of peas from June to August.  You will enjoy the taste of fresh peas. The more peas you pick, the better they will produce. If you would like to get your seedlings started inside, you can do that right now! If you’d like to wait a little longer and plant them outside, just wait until your ground has thawed.

Tomatoes

Tomatoes are one of the fastest growing plants, so they are perfect for beginners.  Choose a bush such as a Cherry Cascade that can be planted in window boxes. Bush varieties do not require side-shotting or any training, so you just need to water and feed them before the tomatoes start growing. If you don’t want to grow them from seeds, no problem! Buy some baby plants from your local garden store and replant them into pots or into the ground when it gets a bit warmer out. Tomatoes are all three of my kid’s favorite veggie to grow in the summer.

Radishes

Radishes are perfect for different meals such as salads, and they are easy to grow.  You can sow them directly into the ground or grow them in containers during the summertime. It is a quick growing vegetable, and it is low maintenance. Radishes are the perfect example of low effort and high yield in the veggie world.

Do you love broccoli? Most people enjoy it in some form, from raw to steamed to cooked in sauce with their Chinese broccoli and beef. The great news about this is that broccoli is very healthy for you as well. Of course, if you get the broccoli and beef you can’t call it health food! Read the rest of this article and learn everything about your favorite vegetable.

The Lowdown on Broccoli

Did you know that broccoli belongs to the cabbage family? It’s yummy and has valuable nutritional properties, as it is one of the foods with more Vitamin C, even more than an orange! Broccoli is also rich in carotenes, vitamin A, selenium, potassium, vegetable calcium, fiber, vitamins B complex and vegetable proteins.

Broccoli is also full of phytochemicals that can offer benefits to your body, such as glucosinolates and above all, flavonoids. You might not be familiar with flavonoids, but they have a strong antioxidant action that has the ability to prevent lipid oxidation in our body. They also neutralize the negative effects of free oxygen radicals in each cell.

At the same time, antioxidant properties are considered anti-cancer properties in our body and together with its nutritional qualities, responsible for most of the benefits offered by broccoli. There are many benefits of eating broccoli.

Benefits of consuming broccoli

In addition to being a vegetable that can easily enrich our diet with a variety of nutrients, broccoli has been associated with a reduced presence of colon cancer in rodents due to its selenium content. However, their flavonoids and glucosinolates have also been tested in a study published in 2009 to reduce the risk of cancer and cardiovascular disease.

In addition, research published in the scientific journal Oncogenesis points out that sulfur compounds in broccoli can not only reduce the risk of cancer but also cause cancer cell death, making it a natural therapeutic alternative. Isn’t that amazing? You can enjoy a great meal and fight cancer cells at the same time.

Also, if we consider its high content in fiber as well as proteins that can accelerate our metabolism without providing many calories, we can easily see its benefits when dieting. Also, let’s remember that broccoli has calcium, Vitamin C and other nutrients that can help us lose weight.

So, whether it’s to take care of our weight and prevent nutritional deficiencies or to reduce the risk of cardiovascular or degenerative diseases, broccoli can be very helpful in our diet by offering valuable properties and great benefits.

DealDash Plans for a Veggie Garden

DealDash

It’s not too early to start planning next year’s garden. Read on for more information from DealDash.

There is nothing like fresh produce. The best way to get fresh produce is to grow your own vegetables in a garden. Not only do you save money, but it is also a rewarding experience. You will always have a fresh supply of food. It can also be a great bonding experience for you and your family. However, there are some important things you need to know about starting your own vegetable garden. Here are some things to think about and plan for, from DealDash.

Choose What Type of Vegetable

Taking into consideration the size of the vegetable is the most important thing you should do. It is wise to start out with a small vegetable.  You should also think about what type of vegetables your family will eat.  Vegetables like tomatoes, squash, and peppers are good to start with. If no one in your home likes the vegetable that you are thinking about growing then it wouldn’t make sense to choose that one. Pick something that the whole family enjoys.

Decide on How Much Space You Need

Deciding how much space you need is very important. You want the vegetables to have plenty of room to grow. You do not always need a large area to grow your vegetables.  You can choose a small section or a container, to begin with.  Think about the size of your vegetables and that can determine how much space you need.

For example, I grow all of my veggies in containers. I have a large raised garden trough that I grow the strawberries. I grow my other veggies such as tomatoes in large pots that I keep on my deck. It works out for me, since I don’t need a large garden. Your needs might be different.

Pick the Right Spot

Vegetables need the sun, good soil, and plenty of water to grow, so it is important to pick the right spot for your vegetables to grow.  Most plants need direct exposure to sunlight, so it is best to find an area where the sun will be visible at all times.  Some people prefer to have their garden next to their home which can make it easier to harvest the food when you are cooking.  The right spot will help your vegetables grow.

Thanks for Reading the Blog

Planting a vegetable garden has a lot of benefits. That is why it is important to consider these tips if you want fresh vegetables.  Watering your vegetables, and doing regular maintenance can help give you the garden that you have always wanted.
