Healthy Diet is Important

Eating a healthy diet is also incredibly important when you want to be healthier. You need to make sure that you are trading in junk food for more fruits and vegetables in your diet. That way you will start to see some very positive results in your body.

Ease the Stress

Relieving as much stress as possible from your life is also going to have a big effect on your overall health. You need to learn to control the level of stress that you deal with and make sure that you learn to deal with stress properly. It is so important to do this as it will have such a positive effect on your mental health.

Get an App

Yes, there’s an app for that! There are actually many apps that are specifically made to help you remember to drink more water. Just do a simple search in the Apple App store or the Google play store and there will be a few to choose from. There are also many fitness-related apps that also track your water intake. However, I prefer the ones that are specifically meant to remind you to drink the water with a push notification rather than just recording when you drink the water.

Use a Shotglass

Surprisingly, a shot glass can help you drink more water. Keep a shot glass around, no matter where you are. Keep one on your kitchen counter, in your bathroom, and in your office. Every hour on the hour (while you’re awake) drink a shot glass full of water. You don’t have to get up in the middle of the night to do this, but if you happen to get up anyway to go to the bathroom, be sure to down a quick shot glass of water.

DealDash Conserves More Water

Even though the summer is over many areas in the US are still suffering from a drought. It’s even more important now than ever that we all try to help conserve water.

There are so many ways that we can help conserve water. Here are a few of the more common ways, and also some unique and different ways that you can “think out of the box” to help save water.

This first way to conserve water might sound like common sense – but as we know, common sense isn’t all that common anymore! The tip is: Only water your lawn when it actually needs it! Most of my neighbors have automatic sprinklers that come on and off every single day, and before the current drought started, the lawns definitely didn’t need every day watering. And since the sprinklers are automatic, I have even seen the neighbors watering their lawn with the sprinklers when it was currently raining – now that’s a waste if I have ever seen one. You can tell if your lawn needs watering by simply stepping on it. If the grass springs back up immediately after you step on it, then it doesn’t need watering that day. By not watering your lawn every single day you can save hundreds of gallons of water per day.

If you like to wash your car at home instead of going to the automatic car wash, then here’s a tip for you: Be sure not to leave the hose on while you are washing the car. Fill up your bucket with soap and water, and then turn the hose off until you are ready to do a final rinse on the car. There’s no reason to leave the hose running while you are soaping up the car. This can save at least 100 gallons of water per car wash.

Similarly, if you are washing dishes by hand, make sure to turn the water off as you are soaping up and scrubbing your dishes. You definitely don’t need to let the water run while you are scrubbing. Just soap up all of the dishes first, and then rinse them all at one time. Also, if you have a dishwasher, you should be using that instead of washing the dishes by hand. It not only saves water, but it also gets the dishes cleaner because the dishwasher uses a much higher temperature of water than most people use when they are washing the dishes by hand.

Finally, if you shave your face using the sink, don’t run the water while you are shaving. Just put a few inches of water in the sink to rinse off your razor between passes. The water in the sink will rinse the shaving cream off of your razor just as well as a stream of water coming from the faucet.

DealDash Reduces Water Waste

It’s been a long hot summer this year, and we are experiencing quite a drought. Here are some helpful ways to save water.

Did you know that out of all of the water here on Earth only about 30% is good for drinking or household use? That’s right! When thinking about this small percentage it really encourages you to try to save water where ever you can. Every little bit helps.

My town and the towns around me are on a partial water ban – we can only water our lawns on Saturdays before 9AM and after 5PM. It really makes a huge difference in our water bill, so I know that we are saving water that way. Unfortunately some of the people in our neighborhood are cheating and still using their sprinklers. Does your town have a water ban in place? If you see your neighbors cheating and you are only friendly terms with them, I would suggest asking them in a very friendly way if they are aware that there is a water ban in place. They just might not be aware of it.

Another way to save water is to buy a rain barrel (or just a large plastic garbage bin) and collecting rain. It might not be raining much this summer, but it does rain occasionally, and you could use the rain that you are able to catch in your barrel for watering your plants and flowers instead of using town water. Just be sure to keep the lid on your barrel when it isn’t raining so you don’t attract mosquitos, and it will also keep you water from evaporating in the heat.

And finally, if you are a person who loves to take a bath save that for the weekend and take showers during the weekday instead. It will save a ton of water, and you will have a nice bath to look forward to on the weekend. As a treat for yourself for making the switch to showers during the week, get yourself some nice bubble bath for your weekend tub time, it will make it even more special.

DealDash Teaches: Building a Sandcastle

Summer is in full swing here with temperatures in the mid-80s. I think it’s time to build a sandcastle.

Building a sandcastle is one of the most fun things about going to the beach, especially if you live somewhere that the water never truly warms up. I grew up in North Carolina very close to the beach, so I have spent my entire life making sandcastles. The weather in southern coastal North Carolina is very mild, and my family would go to the beach regularly from April until November. My kids don’t have it as lucky, Massachusetts may be coastal, but the beach season is significantly shorter.

Since I have been trying to teach the kids how to build a proper sandcastle I thought that I would write-up a quick instructional article. So if you want your sandcastle to go from looking like this:

Most people are ill-prepared when they attempt their sandcastle, bringing maybe a bucket and a trowel. You don’t need many supplies, but you do need a few more than that. You need the aforementioned bucket and trowel, but you should also have something to tap the air out of the sand such as a bigger shovel or a largish flat rock, another bucket with the bottom cut off so it’s more of a large plastic tube than a bucket, a spoon, a plastic cup (like a red solo cup), and a paint stirrer.

The first thing that you will want to do is a little planning. Map out on the sand where your castle is going to be by drawing lines on the sand with your paint stirrer. Don’t bite off more than you can chew by making it too huge. Start on the smaller side until you get a little more confident in your building skills.

After you have mapped out the footprint of your castle then begin heaping sand into the outline of your castle from outside of the lines. Then with the back of your larger shovel pack the sides of the sand mound to form your castle walls. Make them higher than the center of the mound, creating a bowl shape to hold water. Keep packing until you get the height you want.

After you are done packing the sand use your bucket to fill up the bowl shape with water. Place a large bucket with bottom cut off on the mound. Fill three-quarters up with sand. Pour in water, climb in, and stomp. Tap sides with your shovel or flat rock to remove air. Repeat until bucket is full, then lift it off.

You can now use your paint stirrer to carve out walls, ledges, and doorways. You can use your plastic cup to add additional turrets to your castle, and use the spoon to dig out windows.

You’re done! If you would like to add any additional details such as shell decorations or cutting in brick designs with the paint stirrer now is the time. When you’re done be sure to take a picture of your sandcastle because like time, sandcastles are fleeting.
