Making toys for your cat is easy and fun. Here are some ideas to make toys for your purring companion, from DealDash.

Cats are a wonderful pet to have. They are easy to take care of and can be easily trained. Cats love to discover new things especially toys. There are a lot of cat toys on the market, but it is even more fun to make your own cat toys. Cats can make a toy out of almost anything. DealDash presents 3 homemade toy ideas for your cats.

Paper Rolls as Toys

Your furry friend loves to play with paper rolls. You can turn your toilet paper rolls or paper towel rolls into a homemade toy. All you do is roll up some toilet paper and put your cat’s favorite treats in them and fold the sides. You can make the Toilet paper roll more attractive by adding feathers. Your cat will have a great time playing with these unique toilet paper rolls.

Puzzle Toy for Cats

Exercise your cat’s noggin by making a puzzle out of a food container. Cut holes into the container with a knife. Then fill the food container with toys and treats that your cat loves. You can use items that your cat will flip over, such as balls and catnip. After you put in the toys and treats, close the container and let your cat try to get the items out.

A Cat Tent

Cat’s love to hide in different places. Sometimes it may seem that they appear out of nowhere. Creating a cat tent will give your cat a fun place to hide. This toy is easy to make. You use two wired hangers, a medium t-shirt, cardboard, and tape. After you gather the materials you put the tent together. Safety pins will help make the tent last longer. Add a cozy blanket inside of the tent and your cat will be ready for some sleep.

Here’s a Fun Winter Craft from DealDash!

DealDash Mason Jar Snowglobe

Happy Christmas Eve friends! Here is a fun mason jar snow globe craft from DealDash that you can do over the weekend.

What says “winter” to you? If you asked my daughter, she would say “Snow globes!!” She collects them and has loved them ever since she was a 2-year-old. This is a fun craft that you can do to pass the time over the weekend. If you have the supplies handy it would be a great craft to do if you have any children visiting you for the holidays.

Materials:

  • A mason jar (You can get these at Target, Wal*Mart, etc.)
  • Water
  • Pure glycerin (You can get this at Jo-Anne’s Fabric, CVS, Wal-Green’s for around $5 – it’s used as a deep skin moisturizer)
  • Glitter
  • Waterproof craft glue, super glue, or epoxy
  • Small, waterproof toys or even laminated photos to put inside your snow globe

Directions:

1.Take your mason jar lid off of the jar and place your toys, photos, ceramic or glass figurines, or whatever you have chosen to put inside Remember, it has to be waterproof. Make sure they are not too tall so you able to close your jar once they have been glued in place. When you’re happy with the placement, use your waterproof craft glue to glue them to the inside of your lid. You will need to let the glue dry for a while after this. If you are using super glue you can proceed to the next step after only a few minutes.

2.While you are waiting for the glue to dry, put 1 or 2 tablespoons of glitter into your jar to represent the snow. You can use all one color of glitter, or multi-colored. Add more if you like lots of snow, or  less if you aren’t as much of a fan.

3.Pour some water into the jar, but be very careful not to fill the jar all the way up, because your toys will displace some of that water when you screw on the lid of the mason jar. Your water line should not reach all the way to the brim, if it does you are going to have a bit of a mess when you add the lid onto the jar.

4.Add approximately 5 drops of glycerin to the water. The glycerin thickens up the water so the glitter snow will fall slowly when you shake the snow globe.

5.Lastly, when the toys you have glued to the lid are completely dry, apply craft glue (or super glue or epoxy) around the rim and threads of the mason jar to keep the snow globe full of water and not slowly leak out. Also be sure to apply glue to the outside seam of the lid to help keep it watertight. You should check this seal periodically to make sure that it’s still tight.

6.Shake, shake shake!

DealDash has Fun with Scrapbooking

If the aisles at the local craft store are any indication, scrapbooking is a very popular hobby.

One of the easiest crafts to get started with is scrapbooking. There’s truly no right or wrong way to do it – as long as you are able to glue things on pretty paper, you’re a scrapbooker! Of course, there are some people that just seem to have the gift of knowing exactly how to make their scrapbooking pages look perfect.

So are you one of those rare people who are able to just look at a pile of embellishments and know exactly where to put them, or are you like the rest of us and need to do a few “trial runs” before you actually glue anything down? In the end, it actually doesn’t matter which type of scrapbooker that you are, as long as it looks great in the end. “Looking great” doesn’t necessarily mean being perfect, though, sometimes imperfections can be charming, especially when it comes to crafting.

Here are just a few handy tips and tricks about scrapbooking that I’ve picked up over the years:

  • Don’t glue anything until you have positioned everything to make sure it looks nice first.
  • Speaking of gluing, don’t glue any of your special heirloom photos. Make a copy, and use that for scrapbooking.
  • Dirty rubber stamps? Clean them with zero-alcohol baby wipes.
  • Don’t just toss things on your page randomly – choose the focal point of your layout.
  • Get yourself a manila envelope or shoe box and stick random pictures or embellishments in it that you want to save for later or your next scrapbook.

DealDash Sews: A Pillowcase Dress

Image result for pillowcase dress

Making a pillowcase dress is easy, simple, and fun. You can use it as a dress for a little girl, or a blouse for a lady.

I love to sew, and the pillowcase dress is one of the easiest projects that you can do. You can complete the pillowcase dress in less than an hour! It’s a low-cost, high reward project. My daughter has so many of these dresses. If you have a little girl or a granddaughter this project is perfect, you can even do it together.

Materials:

  • Pillowcase
  • Ribbon

Directions:

  1. Buy a pretty pillowcase or find one around your house.
  2. Figure out how much of the material you will need – I’ll attach a sizing guide for little girls at the bottom of these directions.
  3. Lay out your pillowcase, measure the length you need, and cut straight across the closed end, so you end up with a tube of fabric.
  4. Cut semi-circular openings out for the arms on the side of the tube that you just cut open. (see picture for guide:

  6. Using your zig-zag stitch on the sewing machine, stitch around the arm openings that you just cut so they don’t start to unravel in the wash. Alternately, if you have a serger you can use that to serge around the arm openings.
  7. Hem and sew a tube for the ribbon on the front and the back of the pillowcase dress. Please see the picture below for reference:

  9. Guide a long length of ribbon through both casings and tie. You can use a large safety pin to guide the ribbons through the tubes. You could also use a chopstick to push the ribbon through, instead.

Here is the sizing guide, if you would like to make it into more of a pillowcase tank top then use a shorter length, or if you would like a longer dress you can layer another piece of fabric underneath to make the dress longer. This is a great project because you don’t have to follow many measurements or instructions, make it your own!
