DealDash Beauty: Spring Skincare Tips

DealDash

Now that the weather is warming up your skincare routine needs to change a little. Here are some Spring skincare tips from DealDash.

The weather is warm and the sun is shining, however, your skin might still be a little dull and flakey from the long winter. There are a few things that should change in your skincare routine now that it’s warmer out. Read on for more information from DealDash.

SPF, Always

I know that many people skimp on the SPF when it’s winter. They figure that they won’t be outside for long anyway, they are covered up with a scarf, etc. You should try to always wear an SPF no matter what time of the year, but it’s especially important in Spring and Summer that you are applying an SPF every single day before you leave the house. Many daytime moisturizers make this easy by including SPF in their formulas. If your moisturizer doesn’t include an SPF be sure to put at least an SPF 30 on your face every day before you go out in the Spring.

Trade in Your Heavy Moisturizer

Many people use a heavier moisturizer in the Winter. Now that it’s Spring you can trade in that heavy moisturizer for a lighter one. Most moisturizers can be used for up to a year after you open them. If you look at the bottle of moisturizer you should see a little symbol of a bottle opening and a number such as 12. This means that you can use it for 12 months after you have opened it. This makes it easy to know if you can re-use this moisturizer when Fall and Winter come around again.

Try to remember to write the date in Sharpie marker on the bottom of your bottle when you open your next one, this way you will know when it needs to be tossed. This will save you money and aggravation for next time.

Exfoliate that Winter Skin Away

Even though it’s warm and sunny now your skin might still be dry and dull from the winter. No problem! You just need to exfoliate that dead skin away. Many people like to use a face wash that has a crushed exfoliator in it, however, this is not what I would recommend. The most popular kinds of face wash with an exfoliator included either have crushed apricot pits in them. They might seem like they are great at exfoliating your face, but they are really causing tiny little micro-abrasions in your skin. A much better choice is to use a sonic face cleanser with a non-exfoliating face wash.

A sonic face cleanser is an excellent way to get rid of the dry and dull skin that Winter causes. DealDash carries sonic face cleansers and often has them up for auction. They are up for auction both singularly and also in bundle packages. If you would like to do your skin a favor and get a sonic facial brush, then click right here and check out the auctions on DealDash.

DealDash Prepares Your Skin for Makeup

DealDash

Your beautiful skin is perfect just how it is – but sometimes it’s fun to wear makeup. Here are some tips for preparing skin for makeup from DealDash.

Firstly, I realize that makeup isn’t for everyone, but sometimes it’s fun to try out new looks. Before you put your makeup on, however, it’s important to make sure that your skin is clean and healthy before you put lots of extra things on it. In addition to being your faithful DealDash blogger, I am also a certified aesthetician, so I am well-versed in this area. Read on for more information.

Cleanse Your Face

Before putting anything on your skin you’ll want to cleanse it. You don’t need to buy any fancy or expensive cleansers. You just want to make sure that you are not using bar soap to cleanse your skin. This will dry it out very quickly. Go to your local big box store, supermarket, or pharmacy and pick any cleanser that claims to be gentle or for sensitive skin. You’ll want to use this daily, so make sure that you like the smell of it before you buy it.

Use a Gentle Facial Scrub

If you’re using the classic “Apricot” or “Walnut Shell” exfoliating scrub I would throw it away. Those are very harsh on your skin and can cause micro-abrasions in your skin. Pick out (or make!) a facial sugar scrub. These are much more gentle and very effective. I would suggest using a sugar scrub 2-3 times per week.

Use a Facial Serum

A serum is basically a vitamin for your face. They come in many different types such as anti-aging, Vitamin C, and hyaluronic acid. These are a liquidy and lightweight formula that deeply penetrates the skin. These are not a replacement for a regular moisturizer, they go on before a moisturizer and are not typically used daily.

Moisturize, Daily and Nightly

Ideally, you will use two moisturizers – a lightweight daytime one with SPF 30 and a nighttime one that is thicker. If you’re on a tight budget and only want to purchase one, then I would go with a non-SPF medium-weight moisturizer. Do keep in mind, though, that if you are going to be out in the sun you need to apply an SPF to stay safe.

Use a Makeup Primer

Finally, the final step before applying makeup is to use a primer. A primer is a clear gel substance that fills in the tiny imperfections in the skin to make it appear smoother. It’s just a temporary solution, but it will make your makeup look flawless! Make sure that the one you get is dimethicone-based, as these have the best results. After applying your makeup primer you’re free to apply your makeup and enjoy the benefits of beautiful, healthy skin.

DealDash Does Summer Skincare

DealDash

Caring for your skin in the summer is just as important as caring for it in the winter. Follow these tips and tricks from DealDash to have the best summer skin.

Summer skin can be delicate, just like winter skin. One of the most important things that you can do for yourself is to take care of your skin. You can’t go back and erase the damage that you have done to it with sunburns and lack of care, but you can go forward and take the best care of your skin that you can. There are many products on the market that can help you with that, but I’ll tell you about the most important product of all…Sunscreen.

Using Sunscreen is Very Important

You need to be using an SPF sunscreen in the morning, even if you are only going to be out in the car running errands. 30 to 50 SPF is the ideal number for most people for daily use. Thankfully, a lot of moisturizers, foundation, or face powders have 15 to 30 SPF built right in, there’s no need to double up unless you are planning on being out in the sun for a longer period of time, such as taking a walk, going to the playground with your kids, or of course the beach. If you’re going to mostly be in the car running around from store to store, then that SPF in your moisturizer should be fine for you.

Protect Your Skin With a Hat

The next summer skincare tip is to be sure that you wear a hat or visor if you’re going to be in the sun for a longer period of time, even if you have on SPF. If you’re planning on going to the beach or lake, be sure that you wear a hat or visor as well as re-applying your 30 or higher SPF sunscreen every few hours. Sunlight is great for your health and getting the Vitamin D that it provides is important, but please make sure that you apply SPF on a regular basis to protect your skin and keep it looking healthy.

Wash the Sunscreen Off

So you’ve been using your sunscreen every day, that’s great! However, please don’t forget to wash it off in the evening. It’s always a smart idea to wash your face at the end of the day, even if you don’t have any sunscreen or makeup on. However, please be sure not to use regular soap. Regular soap is very drying to the skin. If you don’t have any facial wash, then plain water will work just fine if you have a bare face.

DealDash Helps: Treat a Sunburn

DealDash Sunburn Help

Everyone has had a sunburn at some point. Here are some tips and tricks to help you heal your skin, from DealDash.

The bright summer sun, tanning beds, or any other source of ultraviolet light can cause a sunburn. Prevention is much better than aftercare, of course, but sometimes you just can’t avoid a sunburn. Sadly once you get a bad sunburn the skin damage is permanent, but there are treatments to heal your sore skin, prevent infection, and reduce pain. Here are some of the best treatments available, from DealDash.

Home Remedies

If you have a mild sunburn there’s no need for a trip to the doctor or any harsh chemicals. If you have a mild sunburn it’s very easy to treat at home. No matter which treatment you use on your skin you can take a nice cool shower beforehand to soothe your skin. Just be sure not to rub the skin when you get out – just pat gently with a towel to dry.

Aloe is great for healing any burn, either sunburn or a cooking burn. You can use aloe from an aloe plant or 100% aloe gel from the store. Just apply multiple times per day to your burn.

You can also try tea bags. Yes, like the kind you make a drink from! You can brew up a few tea bags, and when the water has cooled you can soak a clean cloth in the tea and apply it to your burns. Alternately, you can drink the tea and apply the tea bags to your burn instead. Don’t wash it off, just let it dry and leave it overnight. Be aware that tea can stain light-colored clothing and sheets.

Medical Intervention

If your burn is more serious you might want to think about going to see your doctor or going to a walk-in clinic. Your doctor will most likely tell you to get an over-the-counter (OTC) medication such as Ibuprofen or aspirin. These medications can lessen the pain and can also reduce inflammation.

Your doctor also might suggest getting an OTC pain-relieving spray. Sprays that contain benzocaine, lidocaine, or pramoxine have a numbing effect that may help with the pain. However, please don’t use these sprays or medications on small children. Always consult a doctor if your child has a sunburn that is very red and painful.

Prevention

Prevention is better than trying to cure after the fact. Always wear a sunblock in the summer when you’re going out. Be sure that it’s at least SPF 30, and if you are planning on being outdoors for an extended amount of time then you will need to re-apply every few hours. Bring it with you or keep an extra bottle in the car. Your skin will thank you.

DealDash Skin: Minimizing Pores

DealDash skin pores

Pores. Everyone has them, and it’s an important part of skin care to take care of them. Here are some tips and suggestions from DealDash.

Contrary to popular belief, pores don’t grow and shrink at will. Rather, pores appear larger when they are dirty and clogged. Don’t believe claims of skin cleansers “shrinking” pores, they are just cleaning them out so they appear smaller. Here are some ideas from DealDash to keep your pores looking their best.

Take Off That Makeup

Removing your makeup at the end of the day is an important part of skin care. If you don’t wear makeup, you can skip this section. Removing your makeup before bed is important, your skin does most of it’s rejuvenating and healing at night when you’re sleeping, so be sure that you have a clean face to make things go more smoothly.

Take off your makeup using a makeup remover or a micellar water cleanser. Personally, I use a micellar water cleanser all over my face, and then remove my eye makeup with a makeup remover. After doing these two steps I splash water on my face and blot dry with a towel before putting on my serum, eye cream, and night time moisturizer.

Exfoliation = Smaller Appearing Pores

Using an exfoliant is an excellent way to keep your pores clean and therefore appearing smaller. Skip the drugstore scrub made of nut shells or fruit pits, and get one that is made with sugar or microbeads. The scrubs that are made up of the nut shells or fruit pits can scratch and injure your skin. Sugar scrubs are much better because the sugar just melts away and won’t scratch your delicate skin.

You can even make your own scrub! Make a cup of green tea and add a tablespoon of sugar and a tablespoon of honey after it’s cooled down a bit so it’s warm to the touch but not hot. Smooth the mixture over your face and gently rub it in circles to exfoliate your face. Rinse off with plain water and put dry.

Don’t Skip the Moisturizer

Moisturizing your skin morning and night is an important part of skin care and keeping your pores clean and healthy. After cleansing your skin morning and night be sure to apply a layer of moisturizer. I prefer a thinner moisturizer with SPF 30 during the day,\ and a thicker moisturizer at night. Taking good care of your skin by cleansing, using a scrub, and a moisturizer will keep your skin and pores looking beautifully healthy.
